Kingdom sports overtime :determination
1. • What stood out to you in the video?
• How do you respond when your determined efforts are shattered?
• How much do you listen to “naysayers” and those who talk negative? How can you best respond with an attitude of determination?
• Describe a time when you, a teammate or a team showed great determination. What ultimately happened?
• Where do you go to find hope?
• Identify two new things you will commit to doing to up your level of preparation (mental training, speed and agility, film study, etc.).
Determine how many hours per week you will dedicate to these areas and how you will respond when you hit those inevitable roadblocks.
• Paul’s words in Philippians 3:12-14 say press on for the goal and the prize found in Christ Jesus. God calls us to never go backward.
Attempt something great for God, and do it with all your might. Few things are more rewarding than the exhilaration of achievement after
wholehearted effort. The stronger the current opposing us, the sweeter the victory will be.
Determination
1. Opening thoughts on Determination:
Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi said it best, “The will to win is not nearly so
important as the will to prepare to win.” Whether it's gaining more playing time, making
the starting lineup or scoring the winning touchdown, every athlete wants to succeed.
Though most desire success, most athletes are not willing to do the needed work to
improve. That's especially true when faced with adversity. It's easier to put in the effort
when things are going well, but staying focused and disciplined when things are not
going your way requires determination. This “determined” mindset is the hallmark of
athletes that finish well.
2. Video:
Read Daniel 1:8, “But Daniel re-
solved that he would not defile
himself with the king's food, or
with the wine that he drank.
Therefore he asked the chief of
the eunuchs to allow him not
to defile himself.”
4. Closing Thought….
The Apostle Paul was determined when he wrote these words in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, “We are pressured in every way but not
crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed.”
Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around or give up. Pray and ask God how to climb over it, go
through it or work your way around it.
3. Questions:
