In the past I used to be more focused in religion and sports, since I used to think of the synagogue and JCC as important nodes. Currently the activities

were negative and persistent. This negativity leads to the stigmatization and confinement of those who were mentally ill. The mentally ill were sent to
mental hospitals that were unhealthy and dangerous. A push in the mid 1950s for deinstitutionalization began because of activists lobbying for change.
Dorothea Dix was one of these activists that helped push for change. The change called for more community oriented care rather than asylum based
care. The Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 closed state psychiatric hospitals throughout the United States. "Only individuals who posed

My Internship Experience At The South Central Family...
My internship experience at the South Central Family Health Center has been amazing. After this week I will have completed one month at my

According to Gail Goldsmith, BSW, who just retired from Northern Lakes Community Mental Health, NLCMH is authorized by the Michigan
Department of Community Health to provide mental health services and services to those with developmental disabilities.
Developmental disability is generally defined as a chronic condition, with an onset before age 22, that cause impairment in one or more areas that
impact day–to–day functioning such as learning, communication (expressive and receptive language), mobility, cognitive function (information
processing), self–help, health/physical functioning and independent living. Conditions such as Down's syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and fetal
alcohol syndrome are some of the most prevalent causes of impairment. Often these conditions create a need for lifelong support.

Norwood Health Center was the facility I chose for the community agency visit. Norwood Health Center is located in Marshfield, Wisconsin at 600 N.
Chestnut Ave. I interviewed Elizabeth Masanz, the nursing director for the facility. Her contact information is (715)384–2188 ext. 3227. Her email

Effects of mental illness for many patients can come from a range of social and economic challenges including poverty, homelessness, lack of access to

George W. Jackson, a state operated mental health center became Mid–South Health in 1997, and in 2010 Mid–South merged with Counseling Services
of Northeast Arkansas. It has been a part of Northeast Arkansas for over 3 decades and is the only non–profit community mental health center serving
Northeast Arkansas out of 14 community health centers. Mid–South is a public entity governed by a 14 member board of directors from the 13
counties with a staff of 500 that includes full time grant writer, support staff, pharmacists, psychiatrists for both adults and children, clinical
psychologists, licensed counselors, social workers, case managers and nurses. In 2008, Mid–South saw 72,300 patients and served 10,000 clients in
