Global Citizenship Project Task Force Charge <ul><li>The GCPTF shall be consultative and transparent in its processes and report monthly to the Senate. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall identify the core competencies of global citizenship. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall identify best practices in assessment of general education. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall explore multiple models of general education program. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall explore best practices in general education which may include but is not limited to learning communities, paired classes, e-portfolios and co-curricular experiences. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall identify examples of best practices that currently exist within our curriculum. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall request of the Senate additional resources and/or support as the need arises, including changes in the membership of the GCPTF. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall strive have a plan ready for approval of the Faculty Assembly by Spring 2010. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall work through the academic year 2010-2011 to build out the GCP. </li></ul><ul><li>The GCPTF shall be dissolved once the Global Citizenship Program is implemented. It is expected that undergraduate students entering Webster University in Fall 2011 will be required to fulfill the GCP. </li></ul>
Five Motions 1 & 2 convey the “sense of the Assembly” and direct the GCPTF to continue working.
Five Motions 3 directs the Senate to create a Committee and requires further Assembly action before the Committee can work.
Five Motions 4 & 5 require further GCPTF work and further Assembly action before implementation.
Fitting undergraduate majors to the Global Citizenship Program Model
Fitting an Education program to the new Global Citizenship Program model
1. The Faculty Assembly encourages the Task Force (a) to continue developing the Global Citizenship Program in the directions it has indicated so far, (b) to work collaboratively with academic departments to insure that no undergraduate major be compromised or disadvantaged by the change in general education programs, and (c) to work collaboratively with other parts of the University to prepare for eventual implementation.
2. The Faculty Assembly endorses in principle the idea of a more purposeful program structure such as the Task Force has presented in Appendix 2.
3. The Faculty Senate shall create a Global Citizenship Program Review Committee with authority to oversee coding of courses and other experiences for implementation of the Global Citizenship Program, subject to approval of clear implementation guidelines by the Faculty Assembly. All five schools/colleges shall be represented on the membership of the Committee. Implementation: No later than September 30, 2010.
4. Webster University shall require all baccalaureate students to address all the Learning Outcomes stated in Appendix 1 in completing a program of general education. Implementation: Students entering as full-time, first-year students in Fall 2011 and all students beginning with Fall 2013.
5. Webster University shall require all baccalaureate students to address the required learning outcomes by a series of courses and other experiences as shown in Appendix 2, subject to approval by Faculty Assembly of (a) the total number of experiences directed at the various outcomes, (b) the total number of experiences required of each type (learning community, global/international, etc.), and (c) how transfer students satisfy the requirements of the program. Departments that desire requirements of a major to be used to satisfy Global Citizenship Program requirements will submit a detailed rationale for an alternative approach to the Global Citizenship Program Review Committee for review and approval. Implementation: Students entering as full-time, first-year students in Fall 2011 and all students beginning with Fall 2013.
