  2. 2. TO PRESERVE YOUR BODY, THEY HAD STEPS TO FOLLOW. THE FIRST STEP, WAS TO REMOVE YOUR BRAIN THROUGH YOUR NOSE. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THIS PICTURE, THEY WOULD USE A HOOK TO PULL OUT PIECES AT A TIME. NEXT, THEY HAD TO REMOVE YOU INTERNAL ORGANS. TO DO THIS, THEY WOULD MAKE A CUT ON PART OF YOUR STOMACH, THEN LAY THEM OUT TO DRY OUT. THEY WOULD THEN PLACE YOUR LIVER, LUNGS, AND INTESTINES INSIDE CANOPIC JARS. THEY WOULD PLACE THE HEART BACK INSIDE BODY. THEN, THEY WOULD RINSE THE BODY WITH WINE AND SPICES, AND COVER THE CORPSE WITH NATRON (SALT) FOR 70 DAYS. AND AFTER 40 DAYS THEY WOULD STUFF THE BODY WITH LINEN OR SAND TO GIVE BACK ITS SHAPE. FINALLY, THEY WOULD WRAP THE WHOLE BODY IN BANDAGES, AND PLACE IT IN WHAT THEY CALL A SARCOPHAGUS, WHICH WAS BASICALLY A COFFIN.
