2. Learning Objectives
I will be able to…
• Understand what cloud computing is
• Identify the journey of computing
• Discuss advantages and disadvantages of cloud
computing
3. What is cloud
computing?
Using a network of remote servers hosted on the
Internet to store, manage, and process
data, rather than a local server or a personal
computer.
Therefore this allows for secure access to all
applications and data from any network device.
8. Advantages of Cloud Computing
Agility – improves the processing and working time
Access – able to access files from any computer with an internet connection.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Back up – if a file or document is lost, then it is retrievable from the cloud.
Cost – Cost effective as only an internet connection is needed.
Sharing and Collaboration – Share work without having to use paper and
with anyone in the world.
Change in work patterns – Can be opened and edited anywhere in the
world, with multi users at one time.
Less exposure – confidential information can be protected more than if it
was printed on paper.
Acquire and develop new skills – users are using technology to recognise
and learn transferable skills.
9. Disadvantages of Cloud
Computing
Internet connection – Internet connection needs to be reliable and usable
24/7.
Hackers – unauthorised users may gain access to the data and files.
Dependant on speed of the internet connection – can be slow to backup
and restore from the cloud.
Technical Issues – all users need to create and set up an account as
well as dysfunctions and problems.
10. Task 1
Through Moodle you are to complete the session 1
quiz – therefore you need to ensure that you have read
and understood all of the information that is on this
PowerPoint.
Your results will be sent to your teacher ready to
assess your learning!
Best of Luck!
11. Task 2
Complete the session 1 forum that is on Moodle
– you need to identify and explain how cloud
computing could be used within your school
lessons!
Hint: Include what you have learnt today about
cloud computing!
12. Well Done!
You have completed session 1…
You have in this session achieved the following:
Gained a clear understanding of what cloud computing is
Identified the journey and history of computing
Explained and discuss the advantages of cloud computing
Explained and discuss the disadvantages of cloud computing
Discussed the use of cloud computing in school lessons
That’s a sure lot…well done and keep you the hard work!!!
