In this post, I was the sole high school music teacher.
Responsibilities included:
ACADEMIC:
♫ Subject music from Grade 8 to Grade 12 (Preparation of Music History, Harmony and Aural lessons, creation of workbooks for all
grades, liaisng with part-time practical teachers, setting of tests and exams).
EXTRA CURRICULAR:
♫ Performing Arts Evenings: These showcased excellent achievements in Music, Drama and Dance at the Tygerberg Eisteddfod, as
well as performances by all subject music students.
♫ I worked to encourage a community spirit within the school. Examples were: a performance of the Hallelujah Chorus by parents,
students and staff; the introduction of a “CBC Rocks” event held every alternate year, featuring musical items by students, parents
and staff.
♫ Preparation of music for Choir, Glee, Liturgical Singing.
♫ Productions: Music director for 5 productions; liaised with the theatre venue regarding use of their facilities.
♫ Tygerberg Eisteddfod: Rehearsed with musicians and accompanied them at their recitals.
♫ External Exams: Preparing and enrolling students for ABRSM, Trinity and UNISA music exams.
♫ A-V Team (until 2013): Organising and scheduling teams for various events; procurement and repair of equipment.
♫ Organisation of Heritage Day (2013, 2014), (braai's, dancing, live music, a township "spaza" shop, henna hand painting, beadwork,
face painting, English tea garden).

♫ 2010 - 2014: HOD - CULTURE
♫ 2010: I introduced a Performing Arts Evening (see above).
♫ 2012: I introduced "CBC Rocks" (see above).
♫ 2012: I initiated and drove the founding of a concert band.
♫ 2013: I initiated and drove a "Cultural period" during school time, which included a wide variety of activities for students.
♫ 2013: I was recognised by the Western Cape Education Department as a lead teacher in the Creative Arts, and trained Gr7-9
teachers for implementation of CAPS.

EXTRA CURRICULAR:
♫ I orchestrated scores for productions and concerts, directed the music for productions, gave new character to the existing Music
Evening, improved the existing Variety Show, and introduced an annual music competition and jazz combos.
♫ Choir: I created scores, rehearsed with the choir and accompanied them.
♫ 1995 - 1998 : I ran the Christian Society, organising activities, speakers and camps.
♫ 1995 - 1998: I ran the Bible Education programme, which involved allocating teachers, preparing lessons and organising speakers
and ministry teams.
♫ 1995 - 1997: I organised the Interhouse Quizzes.
♫ 2002 - 2003: Co-ordinator for Arts and Culture learning area for Grade 8 and 9.
♫ A-V Team: Organising and scheduling teams for various events; procurement and repair of equipment.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
♫ 1995: Appointed HOD for Music.
♫ 1998: My colleague and I received the Headmaster’s Award for our work in growing the music department, both in numbers and
the quality of music being produced.
♫ 2001: Assistant Grade Head for Grade 10.
♫ 2002: Appointed HOD for Culture (organising of the cultural programme for the school, following up on student involvement,
organising relevant outings and performances).
♫ 2002: Grade Head for Grade 8
♫ 2004: Grade Head for Grade 10.
♫ 2004: I was awarded the “Making a Difference” trophy for my influence in the general life of the school.
