What is AMOLED Technology?
AMOLED is the Active-Matrix OLED, a type of display technology, found in TVs and mobile devices, like Samsung Galaxy
S7 and Google Pixel XL. AMOLED displays are actually the pair part of a conventional TFT display with an OLED display.
This integration allows them to offer faster response times and better power savings than regular OLED displays.
Active matrix represents a thin film transistor system, where each individual pixel luminesces on activation and the screen is
drawn all at once each time it refreshes. The technology also allows the most possible blacks for a higher contrast ratio,
giving equal brightness. AMOLED screens are both lighter and thinner, while at the same time much more durable. Super
AMOLED provides an excellent viewing experience for the users. By offering a wide variety of colors with an excellent
degree of color clarity to translate it into far greater resolution. AMOLEDs have been used in flexible, transparent and
practically unbreakable displays of TV and mobile devices.

Active matrix represents a thin film transistor system, where each individual pixel luminesces on activation and the screen is
drawn all at once each time it refreshes. Active matrix displays provide a more approachable image at a wider range of
viewing angle than dual scan (passive matrix) displays

As the three colors in the pixels are light, the screens don’t have to be backlit. The technology also allows the most possible
blacks for a higher contrast ratio, giving equal brightness. Their structure makes AMOLED screens both lighter and thinner,
while at the same time much more durable. Their effectiveness allows for reduced power draw. On the other side, they don’t
last as long as IPS LCDs because the pixels don’t keep their image quality as long, losing brightness over time.
What is Super-AMOLED?
Super AMOLED is an AMOLED display with an integrated touch function. Instead of having a layer that identifies touch on
the top of the screen, the layer is integrated into the screen itself. Super AMOLED provides an excellent viewing experience
for the users. By offering a wide variety of colors with an excellent degree of color clarity to translate it into far greater
resolution.
This advanced display technology is built upon the success of AMOLED. It has a 20% brighter screen, though uses 20% less
power and sunlight reflection is negligible (it offers 80% lower sunlight reflection than AMOLED.) This technology
combines both touch-sensors and the actual screen into a single layer.
Given its astonishing 100,000:1 contrast ratio, the display of super AMOLED will automatically adapt to different lighting
environments to make it easier for the eyes while providing the best possible picture quality during playing games or
watching multimedia.
Where AMOLED is used?
AMOLEDs are naturally used in portable things like smartphones and tablets but recently manufactures are working to
increase the sizes up to those of large OLED TVs. AMOLEDs have also been used in flexible, transparent and practically
unbreakable displays.
However, with the rapid advancement in AMOLED technology, more and more vendors have begun equipping their products
with an AMOLED display. A key example is Google and Samsung. Samsung smartphones has been using the AMOLED
display technology for a few years now, and now Google has also started equipping its first ever smartphones, the Pixel and
Pixel XL, with AMOLED screens as well.
