God Loves Desperate People
What Is Revival?
✤ Revival refers to a spiritual reawakening from a state of dormancy or
stagnation in the life of a believer.
✤ It encompasses a fresh love for:
✤ God
✤ God's holiness
✤ His Word and His church,
✤ It brings a convicting awareness of personal and corporate sin,
✤ And a spirit of humility, and a desire for repentance and growth in
righteousness.

GodWants a GlobalWarming!
In His People!
God Could Do it Like This
Lightening Hitting a Creek
But He would
Rather HaveThis:
✤ “For this reason I remind you to
fan into flame the gift of God…”
✤ “Fan into flame” ana-zō-pyreō:
Bring fire to a person
✤ Revival is in us in the Person of
the Holy Spirit.
✤ God is waiting for us to decide
to fan that flame of God’s
Presence in each of us.
Our Constant
Need
✤ All relationships need
ongoing renewal.
✤ No static relationships
✤ No renewal = deteriorating
relationship.
✤ God longs to renew our
relationship with Him.

Revivals
✤ About 400 years of Judges
✤ At least seven revivals
Revival Cycle
Recap
✤ God allows the sin of His
people to make them desperate
✤ God’s people pray desperate
prayers
✤ God answers those prayers

love, joy and freedom!
Exodus Revival
✤ Exodus from Egypt: “I have
surely seen the affliction of my
people who are in Egypt and
have heard their cry because of
their taskmasters. I know their
sufferings.’ ( Ex. 3:7)
✤  “…When they heard that the
Lord was concerned about the
sons of Israel and that He had
seen their affliction, then they
bowed low and
worshiped.” (Ex. 4:29-31)
To Sinful Exiles
in Babylon
✤  And I will give them one
heart, and put a new spirit
within them. And I will take
the heart of stone out of their
flesh and give them a heart of
flesh, that they may walk in
My statutes and keep My
ordinances and do them.
✤ Then they will be My people,
and I shall be their God.”
Messiah Came
✤ But the angel said to them, “Do
not be afraid; for behold, I
bring you good news of great
joy which will be for all the
people; for today in the city of
David there has been born for
you a Savior, who is Christ the
Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)
Jesus Arose!
Defeating Even Death—for All of Us!
Pentecost
Revival
✤ ‘And it shall be in the last days,’
God says, ‘That I will pour forth
of My Spirit on all mankind;

visions,
✤ And your old men shall dream
dreams. “ (Acts 2: 17)
1857 Revival
✤ The Panic of 1857: Global
Recession, global panic
✤ 30,000 jobless in NYC alone
✤ Fear of war over slavery
Ways to Avoid Desperate Prayers
✤ Disassociation: Focus on other things:
✤ Entertainment: TV, video games, novels, adult toys,
social gatherings, hobbies, music
✤ Work: at office or at home.
✤ Watch the news… but never pray the news
Other Reasons NotTo Be Desperate
✤ Fear of reality: “ I don’t like to think of such things.”
✤ Fear of disappointment: “What If God Doesn't help?”
✤ Hard-hearted: “ Lot’s of problems—so what?”
✤ Rebellion: “ I don't want to depend on God for help!”
✤ Pride: ”I can handle it myself”
✤ Immaturity/Narcissistic: “I’m OK. That’s all that matters”
Reasons NotTo Be Desperate
✤ Lack of faith: “It won't make difference. Why waste the time to pray a
lot.”
✤ Impatience: “I prayed twice and nothing happened.”
✤ Lies: “God doesn’t listen to me. He doesn’t like me.”
✤ “I've been too bad. I don’t deserve more.”
✤ “I’ll just get disappointed and hurt more if I pray.”
✤ “I need to feel in control. Feeling desperate scares me.”
✤ “If I feel desperate for God, I won’t be able to feel happy.”
