Platform Learning – Se Habla Español…Sort Of
The Skinny
Platform Learning provided after school tutoring ser‐
vices to inner‐city schools. We were new to the
Northeast Ohio market and were looking to make a
big impact in the region by capturing the majority
market share of the Cleveland Municipal School Dis‐
trict, the largest school district in the region. We
were invited to present our programs to a parent
assembly on Cleveland’s west side which was pre‐
dominantly Hispanic in demographics.
So You Got What It Takes?
I attended the presentation with one of my Program Managers. The Program Manager was to
present our programs, and I was to critique her afterwards. But after witnessing two competi‐
tors deliver their presentations entirely in Spanish, I asked my employee if I could take the
reigns. While my Spanish is not what I would describe as fluent, I knew that trying to present
in Spanish to the audience would add that personal touch. So I took a deep breath and started
to deliver my sales pitch in Spanish in front of 300 parents. The words that I did not know I
relied on audience participation to help me find.

trict.
