INTRODUCTION
With rising fuel cost, the drive to seek alternative fuel to generate energy becomes more important daily.
Cost of fuel oil and nature gas will increase and availability will worsen.
Therefore, alternative methods using biomass waste, such as Empty Fruit Branch (EFB), Palm kernel shell, rice hash, wood chips rubber wood etc to generate energy will become the standard for near future.
Objective
To implement BFS Boiler Additive to boiler feed is the new method to remove black smoke on the stack of palm oil mill.
HOW BIOPRO FUEL SAVER (BFS) MINIMISE THE PROBLEM..
BFS as an additive to the biomass fuel, its reacts with the ash which have very high fusion temperatures as high as 1480°C, depending upon the product to EFB weight ratio
BFS Increase the efficiency of the boiler by reduce the deposit formation, lower corrosion the high and low temperature zone and reduce acid smut fall out from the boiler stack
BFS help in the combustion by increase the potential energy with oxidation catalysts and post combustion area to reduce slag, fouling, corrosion and acid smut fallout problems
BFS eliminated Fireside corrosion and fouling by changing the characteristics of the ash. The ash becomes dry, friable and non-corrosive. With the products complex formation is in alkaline range, the corrosion in the high temperature zone is reduced.
BFS maintain design steam temperature with much lower excess air. In many cases, when boiler steam temperature has been low after conversion to fuel firing, it has been the practice to operate the boiler with high excess air in order to increase mass flow and maintain

3. 1. Fireside Corrosion and fouling – high temperature zone.
Almost all the fuel that we use to generate the energy consists of carbon chains and trace level of complex
organic compound of Vanadium, sodium and sulfur. These elements will post fireside corrosion in either
high temperature zone or low temperature zone. Upon combustion, these elements forms LOW MELTING
ASH DEPOSIT and build up in various area in the boiler, such as furnace wall, tubes, supports hangers,
super-heaters etc. This deposit will insulate the generating tubes, impedes heat transfer and subsequently
cause failure of the boiler
2. Boiler Slagging – fouling and formation of slag and clinker
Slag and Clinker formation in the boiler were due to the low melting point of the ash deposit. Most of the
time, deposit and corrosion will take place in the same time due to the reaction of the organic compound
of vanadium, sulfur and sodium ions
3. Air pollution – Acid smut and emission of SO2
When flue gas temperature approaches the acid dew point and condensation occurs in the dust collectors
and boiler stack, ash particles agglomerate and some pass out the stack and polluted the surrounding
area. Acid smut and carbon black particles are highly corrosive to the any metal in contact.
