2. MALCOLM MUGGERIDGE:
“Every happening, great and small, is a
parable whereby God speaks to
us, and the art of life is to get the
message.”
How can we better “get the message”?
3. DEVELOP YOUR “SENSE OF WISDOM”
Like a sense of smell, sense of taste, or sense of
style we can train ourselves to better recognize
godly wisdom.
• Separate “godly” wisdom from “worldly”
wisdom (James 3: 13 – 18)
4. REFLECTION AND PROJECTION
“The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways,
but the folly of fools is deception” (Proverbs 14: 8)
• Journaling (Learning from the past, listening for
themes, etc)
• Counseling
• Consultation
• Projection (Prudence)
• Prayer
5. ASK GOD FOR WISDOM – JAMES 1:5
This is a bit different from asking God for “answers” or for
“direction”
It is to ask God for the ability to think, behave, and respond
skillfully to life’s challenges or opportunities.
The prayer is for a quality of life called “wisdom” – in other
words: “Dear Lord, make me a wise person”
6. HANG AROUND “WISE GUYS” (!)
Wisdom is transmitted – it “rubs off” it is “caught”
as well as “taught”
Learn from those who live SKILLFULLY in the
Lord.
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let
them show it by their good life, by deeds done in
the humility that comes from wisdom” (James 3: 13)
7. LEARN IT FROM JESUS
Dallas Willard:
“Jesus is not just nice, He’s brilliant! He is the smartest man who
ever lived. He is now supervising the entire course of world
history while simultaneously preparing the universe for our
future role in it. He always has the best information on
everything and certainly on the things that matter most in
human life…”
“…but to those whom God has called, both Jews and
Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God”
(I Cor. 1: 24)
