 The role of a teacher is very
important as a guide as a counsellor
.
 An effective implementation of a
curriculum is depend upon on the
teacher who deliver the curriculum.
 A teacher dispels darkness, brings
enlightment and helps the
students .
 Guidance intelectual integrated
with the school curriculum.

Enrich the teaching learning process and
make meaningful to a student.
Teachers can significantly contribute to the
school’s counselling program by giving there
full support and encouragement.
All children need to be equipped with not
only academic skills but also emotional and
social skills to promote learning for the
development of a total personality.

MEANING OF COUNSELLING
Counselling is a process in which professional
help is given by experts to solve the problems
of others.
It is the heart of the guidance programmed
before providing help expert need to gain
knowledge in the respective field without
counselling the guidance program is
incomplete.
Definition of counselling
• According to Ruth Strang
Counselling is a face to face
relationship in which growth take
place in counsellor as well as the
conselle.
• According to Webster’s dictionary :
Conuselling means consellation
mutual interchange of opinion
deliberating together.

Characteristics of a Counselling
• The interview is the basic technique for
counselling technique.

• Counselling releases him from the feeling of
inferiority and compulsion.
• It is joint quest of counsellor and counsellee.

Types of Counselling
1. Crisis Counselling : Crisis are the part and
parcel of our life almost all individuals in
the world will face one or the other
crisis.
When a crisis becomes too serious and
prevents the individual from controlling
himself then he seeks help and
counselling form some qualified personal

2. Facilitate Counselling :This type of
counselling is mainly concerned with
choosing academic options planning
a carrier getting along with family
members co-workers or classmates.

strength and weakness, interest and

3. Preventive Counselling : This type of

individually but sometime many people will be
facing a common problem in that condition group
counselling is adopted it is based on group dynamics

this type of counselling
can be done through
interview which needs
several sittings. It leads
to an exchange of views
between the interviewer
and interviewee.
ROLE OF TEACHER IN STUDENT’S COUNSELING
• Teachers are unique. They have a constructive
attitude and are willing to listen to their
students' difficulties.
• The finest instructors can take on the role of a
counselor to help students develop their
complete personalities.
• They can assist them in initiating talks and
allowing children to express their concerns
and worries. For pupils, a teacher's job as a
counselor or providing direction is far more
critical.
HOW CAN
TEACHER SERVE AS
STUDENT
COUNSELOR
# Establish a rapport
• You can establish a friendly relationship with
your students by making them feel at ease
and then conversing.
• Teachers should assure pupils that they are
speaking with someone trustworthy who can
readily resolve their problems.
# Allow students to express themselves
• Teachers should develop students' self-
confidence to share their worries and
concerns in front of them.
• A teacher should listen to a student's
challenges and issues and help him overcome
them by providing appropriate solutions.
# Maintain confidentiality
• A teacher must be someone a student can
trust. Students may rely on you.
• You'll gain credibility if you keep the
information on a certain pupil discreet.
• When a student gains trust in their teacher,
they will come forward with their problems.
# Consistency in emotions
• As a counselor, you must maintain emotional
consistency in both your sentiments and
ideas.
• Whether the instructor is in a good or bad
mood, they should constantly aid the pupils
who approach them.
# Learn to be non-judgmental
• A teacher should empathize with the student
and be concerned about their well-being
without being judgmental or too opinionated.
• Let the student feel heard and understood.

• Counselling is an interactive process in which
it is characterized relationship between
counsellor and counselee in one or the more
following areas :
1. Behavior
2. Belief
3. Level of emotional distress
4. Attitudes

practioner attempt to study the problems
scientifically in order to guide and evaluate
