Question 7 evaluation
1. Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full
product?
By Bethany Bouchareb
2. To evaluate on this question I looked back at my
preliminary task which we did separately and constructed a
list of notes on paper on what improvements I think I have
made and then after I made a new list on things that I had
been introduced to and learnt in the time of our
construction, there were lots of things on this list, thus I will
separate them into the categories of technique, software,
and miscellaneous.
3. Technique
• To have less room in shots- I have learnt that
framing is key and if you leave too much room in the
shot it allows the audience to see more than needed
and may take away a sense of realism from your
media product, making it less believable and less
successful.
• To have less movement with the camera- I have
learnt that if the camera shakes its takes away how
professional the product looks and again disrupts
the sense of realism, in addition to this, out of fear
that the camera may shake we have learnt to take
more than one take of a shot, and to in fact take it a
few times so then it is more likely there will be one
with no shake at all and you can then have the
choice of which shot looks better, making the overall
product look more aesthetically pleasing.
• To have better composition of shots- I have learnt
that our shot types must be recognizable therefore
the framing of the shots is important to ensure that
the composition looks good to the audience for the
best possible viewing.
• To be aware of continuity errors- I have learnt that
continuity areas can take away the realism of a film
and that we must avoid them, to avoid them we
constantly ensured all the characters hair, costume
and make up was always the same.
4. • To cut shots- I have learnt how to cut shots down as
opposed to leaving them to their full extent, I found this
wasted our clips time, especially when we only had 2
minutes
5. Software
• How to use LiveType- Since my preliminary task I
have learnt how to use LiveType therefore we used it
to create our production company logo instead of
using just the fonts on the program, this allowed us
to create fonts with movement and in certain colors,
in a more specific format.
• How to use Premiere Pro- Since my preliminary task
I have learnt how to use Premiere Pro so we used it
instead of iMovie which gave us more editing
possibilities and in a more professional manner, for
example, you can dub sound and have more than
one sound at a time, and can alter the volume. Once
we got over the first introduction with Premiere Pro,
we felt quite confident in using it.
• How to cut shots- I have learnt how to cut shots
down as opposed to leaving them to their full extent,
we found this wasted our clips time, especially when
we only had 2 minutes
• How to dub sound- I have learnt how to dub sound
instead of cutting it at speech since my preliminary
task which keeps the flow of the video and it to a nice
volume level
6. Miscellaneous
• Planning is key- I have learnt
that to create a good flowing
video planning is really
important and makes the
actual construction of the film
a lot easier and produces a
better film in the long run
• To re shoot- I have learnt that it
is better to take many of one
shot whilst shooting because
then when you come back to
edit it is a lot easier to choose
which shots you want and
some shots will come out
cleaner than others, making
your entire product cleaner
and more professional
