Z100 Target Audience
Z100 has been New York's number one radio station for nearly 35 years. Started in 1983 by legendary DJ Scott Shannon, the station aimed to bring
the Top 40 format back to New York. Now owned by iHeartRadio, the station continues to be at the forefront of popular music, playing music from
established pop, hip–hop, R&B and rock artists, as well as debuting music from new artists. Read on to find out more about Z100 New York. Number

1983, the first voice one heard was Scott Shannon telling New York "it's time to wake up," followed by their first song, "Eye of the Tiger." He

However, this is no longer the case. Now, their HD2 is the terrestrial broadcast home of Nick Radio, which features Top 40 artists that appeal to
Nickelodeon's children and pre–teen audience. Number Two: Elvis Duran is Their Longest Standing DJ Elvis Duran has been with Z100 for nearly
20 years. He started with the in the afternoon slot and, in April 1996, he became the host of the "Z Morning Zoo." Changing the name to "Elvis Duran
and the Morning Show" in 2008, but his tenure with the station is still going strong. Number One: They Went from Failing Station to Number One in
Less Than Three Months When the station first started, it was the second station to attempt bringing the format to New York. It initially floundered in
the ratings, coming in at number 20. Scott Shannon made a promise on the air that they were "going to unite and put the greatest radio station in
America on the air. We are going to go from worst to first." Through guerilla marketing by the station's loyal fan base, with people posting homemade
signs all over the city and recommending the station to friends in exchange for t–shirts, their rating went up radically in a short amount of time. In 73
days, they went from dead last to number one. Thank you for reading our list of seven interesting facts about Z100. We hope you enjoyed

The Importance Of Co-Presence In Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting has become an influence in contemporary times as it is a way of communication to a wider audience. Through radio broadcasting,
we are introduced to a variety of components, different music genres, currents events both locally and internationally, competitions, free giveaways and
live interactions between presenters and listeners. However, it is the idea of co–presence that is stimulated through these components in which makes
radio broadcasting exciting to listen to and engage with. The realm of co–presence within radio broadcast has defined how the audience is actually
listening to their preferred radio stations. In this essay will discuss and break down concepts such as intimacy, liveness and the implied audience that
define the hegemony of co–presence with in radio broadcasting as described by Hugh Chignell's in his text, Key Concepts in Radio Studies (2009).
This essay will also be focusing on how the Mai FM breakfast show, Mai Mornings (2017), deliver Chignell's concepts in order to understand the
importance of co–presence. Mai FM is a hip hop and RnB station that is broadcasted all over New Zealand, and throughout the radio station, Chignell's
concepts are highlighted. Scholarly references will also be included throughout to shape the argument.
Mai Mornings breakfast radio show and the overall show itself establishes a sense of co–presence through the idea of intimacy. In Hugh Chignell's text,
the role of the concept of intimacy was important to

The Effects Of Hispanic Radio On American Society
Introduction In its most basic form, the radio has always played an inherent role in the development of societies around the world. Before the mobile
first generation, and even the television, the radio was the device that families would allow into their home and embrace as a connection to the
outside world. With no exception to this rule, Hispanic radio has shaped the growing minorities ' role in American society ever since its boom.
Hispanic radio has been the unifying force between Latino communities, which provided them with culturally relevant news and information in their
native language at a relatively low cost. Entire communities were given access to information relevant to their native land almost unattainable before.
It has served as the political voice of Hispanics in America and offered alliance during the immigration purges of history. But for a long time
Hispanic radio was nonexistent, many American companies were reluctant to cater to this specific public thinking that it would not turn out to be
profitable. Hungry for a voice, Hispanic entrepreneurs took matters into their own hands and began to forge their own path in the radio world.
Through much struggle, lack of funding, and even political opposition, Hispanic radio was born. Today, it is a successfully established platform used
to influence the people 's taste in music, but also their political views and social perspectives as well as their shopping habits. In this article, I will
discuss the

Radio Station Beliefs
I Believe in Playing a Different Radio Station There are so many different radio stations out there, but it is very common for one to choose a very
particular radio station. The ever popular is FM radio and the song that many people play the most is WIIFM. I believe in playing a different radio
station. Knowing that I am going to go to college in just two years I have the pressure to get involved in the community and as expected my most
listened to radio station decided to play. I was shocked and surprised, as many people, that there was no physical outcome from what I was getting
myself into, but I stepped outside of my comfort zone and played a different radio station. Unusually I enjoyed and it felt like I drank a nice hot cup
of cocoa on a bitter cold day. It was very much unexpected and the feeling was indescribable, it felt as if that song was just stuck in my head and I
couldn't get it out. But this wasn't an irritating feeling. I could sleep at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was able to look at life from a new perspective and a new ear. I believe in playing a different radio station. Weather it's a simple jazz or a
complicated rap and sell those albums to let others see the little good still left in the world. Playing a different radio station is essential in one's
life, and even if there is no materialistic result there is still that fire that glows from within. The world is already so cruel and as generations come
they are becoming worse and worse, and that radio station is becoming part of the most listened to station, 24/7 AM to FM. So, what I need to do is
rewind and go back to the days where people were sympathetic. Change starts with the man in the mirror and I have vowed to myself that I will
change my mentality and rarely listen to WIIFM. I never understood that I was playing that same radio station over and over again, and without even
thinking I would play it and I wouldn't be

An Analysis Of Susan Douglas On Amateur Operators Focus On...
Historiography is the writing of the past. It is also the study of the way history events has been written by historians with their perspective and
interpretations. As everything is interpreted to each owns perspective, some parts of history could have been skewed while being written with biases
and favoritism according to the authors. We all understand things slight differently according to how we were raised, social and culture background,
experiences, etc.
The reading by Susan Douglas on amateur operators focus on young men and boys who were separated from regulation such as private firms,
militaries, state, and etc. With the mindset of the ether belonging to "the people" was a major step in the making of radio broadcasting. She also
emphasizes that American middle class boys saw the control and mastery of technology as a symbol of masculinity. It was usually young, middle–class,
white boys and men who created their own stations. She highlights that the appearance of the boy inventor–hero was an important factor to the history
of radio because it offered information about wireless and inspired boys to play around with the invention. Wireless work were tied with contemporary
heroism and another reason were the ideas offered by young men who experimented. Stories such as the ones about Willenborg began to increase
rapidly in numbers and opportunities in technology arose. Susan prioritizes Willenborg, the Americans who invested in stock in wireless companies,

A Day in the Life of a Dj
Have you ever wondered as you were driving down the road listening to the radio, "How do they do that?" I certainly have, and so for my junior
job shadow experience I chose to shadow Mike Shannon from 99.7 WDJX, a very popular radio personality in Louisville, Kentucky. I chose to
shadow him because I was interested in how DJs do their job and how a radio station is run. I thought that the job would be fun, exciting, and I
thought it would be interesting. Going in to the Radio station I already knew that it was probably a high stress job and that on occasion it was very
exciting. Some of the questions I had going into the situation were, what kind of history is behind the radio and radio personalities and what kind of
education do you... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Self–employed DJs usually pay for everything themselves. Some DJs become well known among the community and are asked to make public
appearances around the community. Most DJs that are well know are the charismatic ones who are wild and crazy on air. Which leads me to my
next question I had what kind of personality do you need to be a radio personality and what is the environment like? DJs are always trying to
please the people. If people don 't listen to you the ratings go down. When I asked Mike what kind of personality is needed he responded by
saying, "The person needs to be positive and outgoing. Also you need to be very patient with people who call in because not everyone is going to
be nice and happy when they call in. So you need to be able to hold back rude comments you might want to say to them." (Mike) DJs must be able to
multitask and between watching the clock, choosing music, answering the phones, reading reports, entertaining guests and the audience. Again
everything is about timing. DJs are required to plan ahead and be able to keep up with everything that is going on. They must be able to play the
next song or commercial on time. It can be difficult to keep up but once you do it for awhile it gets easier. Working at a radio station can be fun but
stressful at the same time. Dust and temperature control are very important parts of keeping the equipment running and in good condition. DJs may not
always have jobs either, especially

Pandora Radio
New Models Of Doing Business: Pandora Radio As if the music industry has not seen enough change in recent years, Pandora Radio has started yet
another music revolution. This time, however, the revolution is not about how the music is stored and collected (LP/CD/MP3 transformation), or how
music is purchased (Record Stores/ iTunes transformation), but how we actually listen to music. Pandora Radio has created an amazing technology,
which allows users to create and customize their own radio stations that automatically play new and unique songs that cater exactly to the users tastes
and interests. Pandora has created a radio station that never plays that bad or annoying song. With Pandora, the user will never have to turn that

In contrast, there exist many intermediaries with the traditional radio business model. Disc Jockeys select the music to broadcast and station managers
determine what type of genre and audience to target. With this old way of doing business, satisfying the customer was a never–ending challenge of hit
and miss, where ratings were correlated to what was being played. With Pandora, customer satisfaction is inherent in their model. Users create their
own stations to listen to, and are constantly customizing stations to tailor to their tastes. The argument can be posited that while Pandora does possess
a new high technology and a new way of doing business, the existing technology support network cannot support Pandora–a large portion of radio is
listened to people commuting in cars where an internet connection is beyond the normal means of consumers. This is a false assumption. The
technology support network is currently undergoing change to meet the demand for internet connectivity anytime, anywhere. Technologies such as 3G
and 4G allow devices to connect to the internet anywhere, and Pandora is currently developing players for automobiles, and applications for smart
phones have already been developed and launched (Yarrow). Pandora's effort to allow users to utilize their service anywhere is another genius move of
the company (Yarrow). By aligning themselves with the ongoing self–service evolution in

The Pros And Cons Of The Hrome Bluetooth Speaker
Bluetooth speakers exist in abundance today, but frustratingly few of them offer more than a crackling peep forced out of a flimsy plastic shell with
the energy of an elderly woman trying to blow out all the candles on her 90th birthday cake. Despite the hundreds of thousands of models being
produced by as many brands, a truly great Bluetooth speaker is almost impossible to find. Portable speaker enthusiasts who want to listen to their
favorite music as it would be heard over a larger hi–fi stereo system don't have a whole lot of options, but the Hrome Bluetooth Speaker is one of them.

The Media Of Fm Radio
Recently there have been interesting developments in the world of wireless communication. Much controversy surrounds the activation of the FM
chip, found within most of the cellphones manufactured worldwide. This chip allows the reception of FM radio. Opponents on both sides have
stated their cases. There are those who view it as obsolete technology and others who see it as a necessity in an emergency. In dire situations this
could be the only means of relaying important information to the masses. Until another reliable means is developed, FM radio should be available
for all. Since its inception, radio has gone through many changes. In its infancy it was the only true form of electronic media. Radios became a
requirement in all sea vessels, a result of the tragic sinking of the Titanic. During the Great Depression it grew in popularity due to its price, free.
This was referred to as the "Golden Age of Radio." Radio remained the dominant force in media until the arrival of the television. The high fidelity of
FM radio caught the interest of those who favored music programming, and with the addition of DJs, radio held it 's own. (Gross, Lynne Schafer,
Electronic Media An Introduction, pg 3–8) Over the years, many new competitors have joined the media race. Technology has delivered new gadgets
such as the MP3 player, iPod, and smartphones. New services like Amazon, Bandcamp, and iTunes have sprung up offering music downloads at low
prices. Streaming services on smartphones

Positive Apsects to Being a Radio Announcer
"Radio reaches more than 68% of U.S. consumers ages 12 and older on an average day." (newsgeneration.com, 2014) I selected a career in radio
because I love listening to and being around music, I love meeting new people, and I love journalism. Radio announcer's present music and news and
some may provide input on topics or interview guests. Some announcers act as emcees or DJ's during events hosted by the radio station or during other
events like at weddings, parties, or clubs. Announcers announce station programming information, the weather, the time, and commercials. (BLS.gov,
2014) "Radio represents nearly one quarter of the time Americans, Adults ages 18 to 64, spend with media each day." (newsgeneration.com, 2014)
Announcers need to keep up with current topics and will sometimes have to research topics so that they can talk about them later on their shows. Radio
announcers also make promotional appearances at public or private events such as concerts. (BLS.gov, 2014) "242 million people listen to the radio
each week" (newsgeneration.com, 2014) Radio announcers may also work the studios equipment, air advertisements, and other recorded material. At
many radio stations, announcers do much of the work usually done by editors and broadcast technicians, such as broadcasting program schedules,
commercials, and public service announcements. (BLS.gov, 2014) With a career in radio one would have a positive work environment. There are

FM Receivers Essay
Abstract
This paper will discuss the design of an FM receiver. It will begin with a brief historical backdrop of FM broadcasting and its use in society. It will
continue by providing the necessary mathematical background of the modulation process. Furthermore, it will enumerate some of the advantages of
FM over other forms of modulation, namely AM.
Finally, the paper will discuss the design of a basic FM receiver as well as introduce some circuits and circuit components which the reader may not be
familiar with.
Introduction
Frequency modulation (FM) was invented in 1936 by an American electrical engineer/ inventor named Edwin H. Armstrong. Possessing numerous
advantages over the existing
AM broadcasting system, as will be discussed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charge builds up on both sides of the junction implying a capacitance Cj. In a varactor diode, Cj is a function of the reverse bias voltage. During this
application, the diode is biased such that this relationship is approximately linear. In the varactor diode modulator of Fig1.0, the carrier is coupled via a
transformer to the tank circuit in the secondary. The carrier undergoes a phase shift, ∆¦Èc, due to the complex impedance of the tank.
The modulating signal changes the biasing point and consequently Cj of the diode.
This in turn changes the resonant frequency of the tank circuit and consequently, the phase shift of the incoming signal. If design properly, ¦Èc(t)
will vary at the same rate as the modulating signal so that ¦Èc(t)= a(t), where a(t) = kf В
ЎГ’m(¦Ó)d¦Ó (i.e. an integrator, not shown in figure, is
used beforehand to generate a(t)).
Properties of FM Signals
As defined in equation (1.0), the instantaneous frequency of an FM signal is3 wi(t) = wc +kfm(t) which varies from wc +kf|m(t)| to wc–kf|m(t)|. Let

This case study looks at the launch of a women's radio station in the city of Herat, Afghanistan, in the year 2003. It follows four Afghan women

trainers on the other.
Kamal explains that Media development takes on many different forms in different areas of the world. Rather than being a force for sustaining
difference, the media is deliberately employed by media development organisations as a vehicle for challenging unequal gender relations. Women's

While the radio station had officially been granted a licence from the Ministry of Information and Culture in Kabul, Ismail Khan's power base in the
west was very strong, and the central government had very little power to enforce its policies in Herat. As a result, during the process of setting up the
radio station, there was much concern when Ismail Khan chose not to offer any written guarantee that the operation would receive his sanction.
He was, however, an advocate of women's education. By describing the women's radio station as a tool for women's instruction and culture, and inviting
the Canadian ambassador to Afghanistan to the radio station's launch, Radio Sahar was able to receive Ismail Khan's last minute support. Radio Sahar

The women usually had very little time to prepare the shows; they would use the time available to them during the playing of songs or pre–packaged

Career Of Radio Suresh Kumar Verma Essay
CAREER IN RADIO Suresh Kumar Verma
Twenty–first century is the age of information, communication and entertainment (ICE). Mass media ie radio, television, movies, advertising, news
media, newspaper and magazines, has a vital role to play in the development of a country and created many job opportunities as well.
Radio, the grandfather of the electronic media is a unique and exciting way – practical and personal – that encourages listeners to develop an unusual
association with presenters and stations. Radio Radio is a very effective and efficient way for information dissemination, education and entertainment to
the masses. Unmatched with other means of mass communication, radio is persistent, enterprising and friendly. In common with the rest of the
establishment media, Radio in the past 90 years has gone through different periods of modifications and changes as the group staff, analog to digital,
AM to FM, Public to Private and announcer RJ . He transformed his size, format, duration, and its programs, but remained pervasive not only in
developing countries but also in the heart of developed countries. But one thing is sure that Radio needs of creative and talented people to fill a range

Taking a Look at Radio Communication
One of the most important contributions to communication is the invention of radio communication. It has provided a platform for wireless cellular
communication. According to an article, it was first believed that 'The wireless telephone will also cover the seas, lakes and waterways, supplementing
the wireless telegraph over short distances' (Burt, 1908, para. 3). If only he knew that wireless telegraph will become a thing of the past. The first
effective radio communication system was developed by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, and scientist (Guglielmo Marconi Biography, n.d.).
Marconi never had any formal scientific education (Bababian, 1992), but 'has been the recipient of honorary doctorates of several universities'
(Guglielmo Marconi – Biographical, 2013, para. 8). He began experimenting with electromagnetic waves in 1894 when he was twenty years old.
However, 'Nikola Tesla is now credited with being the first person to patent radio technology; the Supreme Court overturned Marconi's patent in
1943 in favour of Tesla. (Bellis, n.d., para. 6) '. In the 1930's radios were commonly found in households as a source for entertainment and news.
Since then, radio technology has advanced significantly since its early days, especially to the sound quality and it's ability to travel great distances.
This form of entertainment is supported by the use of carrier waves. These waves travel at the speed of light (Abbot and Rider, 1957). Carrier
waveforms are the different

The Significance of Australian Youth Culture and Radio
Today the world in which we live in can be seen as a vastly media integrated way of life. Whether it is film, television or advertising, these forms of
media constantly surround us, influencing and changing the way we live. But what about radio? Some say that radio is dying, that its use has
become useless, that it was only an aid of assistance during the early and mid 1900's. But the way I see it, I think that radio is more relevant and
significant today than it ever was, especially for the diverse Australian youth cultures. Their lifestyle, education, political views and social aspects
come under a large role due to what they listen to over the radio. So how do radio stations maintain and attract their listeners? What sort of impacts ...

confidence and providing the essential atmosphere for the growing Australian youth.
For many people, community radio broadcasting plays a significant role in their lives especially for those who come from country or rural areas. As

forces have negative influences on the industry, namely the intensity of rivalry, the threat of substitutes, the bargaining power of buyers, and the
bargaining power of suppliers. Only the threat of new entrants has positive influence. Fortunately, ICTs are broadly used in converting the negatives to
positives among the radio station industry. And it actually does very well. The below facts are the analysis of Porter's five forces and ICTs being
implicated in radio station industry.

However, the industry confronts with the hugely powerful threats from many different kinds of communication media in New Zealand, including
television, radio, newspapers , magazines, films and websites, and etc. Adequate substitutes are available which increase competition in the radio
industry. Moreover, Each method has its own pros and cons. For example, Sky TV impresses the audience both with sound and images. Unfortunately,
it is unavailable for advertising because audiences pay for the programs. Then what can we do to make the radio outstanding?
To be honest, radio cannot take place of any of these substitutes. Nevertheless, radio could make use of them by ICTs. Hence, multiple listening
platforms such as the internet and digital TV are established. And these new platforms have assisted radio to escalating opportunities for brands to get
in touch with listeners in progressively more innovative ways. Furthermore, radio is well positioned to work alongside the emerging platforms with its
ability to co–exist and complement developing technologies. These new platforms benefit the traditional on–air broadcast by adding increased
touch–points.
According to the enormous benefits that the multiple listening platforms bring about, the situation of radio turns out to be constructive.
The Bargaining Power of Buyers
As a single solution of advertising, radio does not prior to others, such as TV and internet.

Mass Media And Its Effect On Society
Mass Media are organizations in our society. The medium industries provide information and entertainment, but mass media also can affect
political, social, and cultural institutions. Mediums such as radio, newspapers, and television all reflect and affect American society. However,
the main one that I am going to discuss is Radio. Radio is more effective in mass media as compared to the other mediums. The way radio was back
then is way different from what it is in society today, it has changed over time. People believe that radio is one of the dying mediums, but that's
false. Radio has saved plenty of lives through communication. Radio has been the first device to allow for mass communication. It changed the
pace at which information was exchanged. Radio broadcasts that exist in society today didn't began until after World War I. Radio was used during
the war to communicate. But, the federal government had ordered all professionals off the air taking control over all stations. Back in 1920, KDKA
was licensed as the nation 's first commercial broadcast in the United States. The audience began to expand very quickly because advertisers began to
see how well the broadcast was doing. In addition, seeing that the audience was expanding they started to think about how they would make money.
So, AT&T radio broadcast station (WEAF) became the first paid commercial, they began selling limited advertisement time to sponsors. This led to
success. Radio back then was and still is a

Wireless Communication Essay
Telecommunication occurs when the exchange of information between two or more entities (communication) includes the use of technology.
Communication technology uses channels to transmit information (as electrical signals), either over a physical medium (such as signal cables), or in
the form of electromagnetic waves.[1][2][3][4][5][6] The word is often used in its plural form, telecommunications, because it involves many different
technologies. Early means of communicating over a distance included visual signals, such as beacons, smoke signals, semaphore telegraphs, signal
flags, and optical heliographs.[7] Other examples of pre–modern long–distance communication included audio messages such as coded drumbeats,
lung–blown horns, and loud whistles. Modern technologies for long–distance communication usually involve electrical and electromagnetic
technologies, such as telegraph, telephone, and teleprinter, networks, radio, microwave transmission, fiber optics, and communications satellites. A
revolution in wireless communication began in the first decade of the 20th century with the pioneering developments in radio communications by
Guglielmo Marconi, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909. Other highly notable pioneering inventors and developers in the field of electrical
and electronic telecommunications include Charles Wheatstone and Samuel Morse (telegraph), Alexander Graham Bell (telephone), Edwin
Armstrong, and Lee de Forest (radio), as well as John Logie Baird and

Governments Influence on the Radio
Radio was originally created for the purpose of communicating with ships out to see and emergency broadcasting. Throughout history the United States
government has had a major influence on the evolution of radio. The government was responsible for fostering ownership regulations for the stations in
an effort to regulate information transmissions and military security. Unfortunately, in doing so the ownership ofradio stations became about individual
profit rather than national security. The government in theUnited States has played an integral role in radio's development. They began enforcing limits
on station ownership to regulate the number of stations a company can own. They also began regulating the content of radio broadcasts ... Show more

Owners stood to gain from purchasing of stations until the government started to regulate ownership and ruled that there were no owners. This was a
loss for many radio station owners, as much of their investment was on the line. In 1996 when the FCC eliminated the restrictions, owners stood to
gain, allowing the cost of purchasing a station to drop and remain about even since. With all of the influence from the government, one must wonder
was there another way it could have been done. The answer is no. Had the Navy not stepped in in 1919, the US might not be a leading world power.
At times, the government's rulings were extreme, and could have been a bit easier to manage. For example, rather than eliminating all ownership, the
FRC could have instituted new federal regulations. Regulations could have covered the number of stations one individual or company was allowed to
purchase to a number smaller than the original would have brought about enough change on its own. There will always be discrepancies in all of the
communications fields. Telephones are being replaced by cell phones. Telegraphs are almost non–existent. Radio is not going to go away. Allowing free
range for a person to communicate with a large number of people is always going to be a touchy subject. There has to be government regulations. The
government encouraged GE to monopolize much of the

Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the world. This means individual stations need to jostle
for their unique positioning in the market. One way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content analysis.
Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus, announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion,
competitions, types of callers and news information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hopstation 'Mai FM' to New Zealand Media and
Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. '
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The
methodology has evolved over the years, but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by counting
various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to
discover certain trends in communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of content on audiences. The
reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations
concerning trends in media content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no

How Technology Can Help An Organization
As technology becomes more advanced many people tend to use it more often. They see that technology allows them to do things quickly and easily.
One example is paying a bill online. It's a quick and easy process to learn. However, not all websites are made to only pay bills. Some are made to
shop, entertain, inform, or to help an organization. Many people don't really see what methods people use to attract many people to go online.
Nowadays many companies have created their own websites to have their customers use at their convenience. Air1.com is an uncommon website,
created by the Air 1 radio station which plays Christian music. The Air1 website contains rhetorical appeals usingEthos, Pathos, and Logos to persuade
listeners of the Air1 radio station to keep it on air.
ETHOS
Air1 is a radio station that has their own website which features options to have their listeners help out with many charities and to help keep their
station on air through donations. One charity offers the EZ $40 monthly plan to help provide kids with the medicine they need for the parasites and
other diseases that they might be struggling with. They use ethos to try to persuade people to donate to their station. They also use it to show that all
the money that is donated goes to several good causes. In one of their buttons featured on the right side of the page is an option where any listener can
leave a prayer if they ever feel like they need to strengthen their hope so that they never lose it.

Implementing Radio in Somalia Essay
Implementing Radio in Somalia
Implementation of radio technology in helping underdeveloped countries is a cheap and effective solution in spreading education, health information,
and news about local and foreign affairs. Radio can reach the most people (approximately an area of a 20 km radius) with the least amount of money,
energy and effort. In comparison to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Internet connectivity, radio management is easily
teachable and requires less man–hours in training; Internet technology on the other hand, while perhaps more sophisticated, requires longer training
hours and more expensive equipment. The sophistication of Internet is too advanced for some of the more rural areas of ... Show more content on

Success of Radio Technology around the World
Radio has been used successfully around the world to further education and promote health practices as well as increase knowledge of local and foreign
affairs to local villagers of undeveloped countries.
Education:
Villages and communities in far removed or mountainous regions of countries lack the human and capital resources that are needed in order to initiate
and sustain educational projects; furthermore, the cost of supplying adequate teachers, sufficient materials, and proper supervision to each community
in need is difficult for many countries to support. However, access to basic skills and literacy education programs are crucial for improvements in the
overall health, environment, and economic status of the communities and people of those areas. This "catch 22" disallows poor countries to grow;
lack of resources and education keep these areas at a low status while rich countries continue to grow and get richer (once again, following the "Gap"
hypothesis).
RADECO (Interactive Radio Instruction) is an example of radio as a tool to further education. RADECO provides a valuable education alternative to
children not able to attend formal schools. Education through radio helps local children (as well as adults) who don't have the time to go to school
because they need to work in the fields during the day. RADECO also alleviates costs for

The second objective was created was to generate awareness by 5 percent of the total millennial population in the Fort Worth area from June 1, 2017
until September 29, 2017. The Young Professionals Association will hold many events throughout the summer months to generate awareness for Lena
Pope. YPA will hold an 80's art contest where they get a chance to get their art displayed at Rock the Fort. Millennials would be targeted through many
bars in Fort Worth and through organizations throughout Texas Christian University campus. The success of the contest will be monitored through the
number of those who sign up for the contest. The participants will have to sign up for Lena Pope's mailing list in order to participate. This will make
it easier to measure the success and see the involvement towards the organization. Additionally, we will offer a free entrance done through radio call
in. Reach the millennial population and secondary target market of 30 to 40 year olds in the Fort Worth area. This will also be measured through the
cooperation with the radio stations who give us the complete number of those who tried to call. Also, YPA will start a free yoga class in Fort Worth.

Introduction
Each and everyday individuals–namely radio listeners–are emotionally stimulated by thousands of daily news and commercial messages. Consumers of
this traditional technology have to selectively process the information they receive in order to make what was heard more easily recalled. Because of
this, advertisers put effort towards increasing the overall effect the product message has by employing different cognitive strategies that may, or may
not affect a listener.
For example, when CSU–Global Campus' marketing team creates an advertised message for radio audiences–regardless of the genre or listener
segment–the strategy might be to employ two separate messages in two diverse markets. One message might promote a positive outcome such as
achieving the degree one has always wanted, while perhaps the other would promote avoiding a

Mobile Phones
Brief Description of how mobile phones work:
A mobile phone is a device that allows for two people to be connected over the world by a radio link. This is done by connecting to a cellular
network, which is provided by telecommunication companies such as Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone being the three main in Australia. Once the
cellular network is established it then connects to a cell, which is a tower, then the other phone. If the phone is out of reach from one the original
tower the cell may transfer the call to another cell, this process is now so efficient and fast that both caller and receiver would never notice that this has
taken place. This uses electromagnetic waves between substation–to–substation this is a combined technology of radio and the telephone. Modern day
mobile phones have a wide variety of uses compared to the original mobile phones such as calling, text messages, multi–media messages, email, internet
access, games, applications, calculators, music, videos, high resolution cameras and many other options that a only on some devices these are things

The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves
Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of electric charges in different media, including in
vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can be precisely portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell 's conditions,
which were obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the relative areas and movements of different charges in
its vicinity. Extra significant laws of physical sciences incorporate Newton 's law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations for charge,
energy, control, as well as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion of the "electrical" in "electrical designing" and are
fundamental to a sound comprehension of that area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his famous equations, the doors opened up for
significant research into the application of electromagnetic waves in every day life (Becker & Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of
Maxwell's theory was that electric fields and magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even though it was assumed that
these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in space, it was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that
all EM waves travel with the same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). The branch of electrical engineering has conveyed four "wonders" –
sets of marvels that could each be viewed as genuine

Radio Waves And The Radio
The science of radios has been around for a long time, with many scientists making contributions. It all started in 1860 James Maxwell predicted
the existence of radio waves. In 1886, Heinrich Hertz proved that radio waves could be manipulated to form sound. Radio waves were first put to
work to make telegraphs, but then Lee DeForest figured out how to amplify waves to make them audible over long distances, effectively inventing
the first radio. By 1915, humans had perfected AM radio broadcasting and were able to transmit across oceans for the first time. However, the FM
radio was yet to be conceived and it took until 1933 until Edwin Armstrong learned how to improve audio signal and broadcasting range, which led to
FM radio. The radio... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a real radio station, the radio will have an assigned frequency so no two stations will be broadcasting over each other. When a radio is tuned to a
number, it is really being tuned to that number's frequency. Electromagnetic waves are very important to radios because they provide a medium at
which to output a sound. Because of their properties of magnetism and electricity, they are able to broadcast a sound at a distance of which no
other medium can. Radios are truly complicated devices, but they can be simplified by breaking them down into important parts, as the tester will
do in this experiment. One important part is the transformer. A transformer, in this case, will transfer the output from the headphone jack into a
radio signal. However, transformers are not only used on radios, but are essential in almost any device involving sound. Once the transformer sends
out the radio signal, it is sent to the crystal oscillator which is another important part. The oscillator makes an electromagnetic frequency by
vibrating a piece of crystal. Once it is modified by the oscillator, the signal is complete and ready to be broadcasted. However, none of this could
have happened without the source of power, which in this case is either 4 AA batteries or a 9V radio battery. The type of battery is the deciding factor
in this experiment, and also one of the key components in a

During the work week, internet radio has approximately three times the amount of listeners as all broadcast radio channels combined at all times of
the day [1]. While broadcast radio is quickly declining, there is still about $16 billion in advertising revenue coming into the industry [1]. This is a
large enough amount of money that broadcast radio won't die out in the next couple years. The radios can still play the hot new hits from major artist
and obtain enough listeners to create advertising revenue. As listeners have migrating from AM radio to FM radio to internet radio, the major
advertisers have followed right behind them. The advertising companies want to market where they can hit the most consumers for the smallest amount
of money. If there is three times the amount of people listening on the internet than on broadcast radio; it only makes sense to advertise on the internet
radio and hit three times the amount of consumers as the same add on broadcast radio would. As we move further into the future, the music industry
will be less about selling music to the consumer through iTunes, CS's, or MP3's and turn more to selling listeners to advertisers to make the money.
Music streaming has been helped along with the development of music algorithms. These will only develop further in the future and create an even
better music listening experience than what we have now. The music algorithms are used by all of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Frequency Modulation
ANGLE MODULATION
Chapter Objectives
This chapter will help you to:
1.Define and explain the processes of frequency modulation (FM) and phase modulation (PM) and state their differences.
2.Calculate the modulation index given the maximum deviation and maximum modulating frequency, determine the significant number of sidebands
in an FM signal, and calculate the bandwidth of an FM signal.
3.Define pre–emphasis and de–emphasis, state their benefits, and show how they are accomplished.
4.Name the advantages and disadvantages of FM and PM compared to AM.
Angle modulation is a technique in which the angle of the carrier wave is varied according to the instantaneous amplitude of the modulating signal.
There are two types of angle modulation.

FM is a technique in which the instantaneous frequency of the carrier wave is varied according to the instantaneous amplitude of the modulating

of the modulating signal is zero and hence there will not be any deviation in the carrier frequency from its original value. Thus between time T2 and

Electronic Media And Its Impact On The World
Since its inception radio has gone through many changes. In its infancy it was the only true form of electronic media. Radios became a
requirement in all sea vessels, a result of the tragic sinking of the Titanic. During the Great Depression it grew in popularity due to its price, free.
This was referred to the "Golden Age of Radio." Radio remained the dominant force in media until the arrival of the television. The high fidelity of
FM radio caught the interest of those who favored music programming and with the addition of DJs, radio held it 's own. Over the years many new
competitors have joined the media race. Technology has delivered new gadgets such as the MP3 player, iPod, and smartphones. New services like
Amazon, Bandcamp, and iTunes have sprung up offering music downloads at low prices. Streaming services on smartphones have grown in
popularity, Pandora, Spotify and Google Play being three of the forerunners. All this and radio still holds on. They are found in virtually every
automobile. Local broadcast radio is commonly heard in local restaurants and bars. Last but not least, you likely have one in your pocket, your
smartphone. Smartphone manufacturers founded the feature cost them little to add and it has been quite popular in developing countries outside of the
United States. The majority of smartphones manufacturers included an FM chip in its design which allows the user to receive FM radio. Though most

Once the signal is received, these receivers will demodulate the signal – meaning to extract the modulation from the received signal.
AM
AM (Amplitude Modulation) is the original way of broadcasting radio. Lee de Forest and Reginald Fessenden are given credit for the development of
the technique which was carried out successfully for the first time in the mid–1870s, its frequency ranges from 535 to 1705 KHz and the typical
bandwidth of an AM channel is 10 kHz. The name 'AM' itself gives a clear indication to the type of modulation technique used; Amplitude Modulation.
Amplitude Modulation is a modulation technique which works is by modifying the carrier wave's strength by increasing or decreasing its peaks in line
with the variations of the input sound; the strength of the wave is known as amplitude, through all of this the frequency remains constant – the same.
This type of modulation technique is more susceptible to noise and or interference due to the fact noise effects amplitude directly. The change in
signal strength allows the conveyance of information through the radio wave that is sent out via a transmitter and is received by a radio device
otherwise known as the receiver. When the signal is received, demodulation takes place; this can be dealt with in two ways depending on the device.
Either a Diode AM detector will carry out the demodulation (which is

Radio Is Becoming More Prolific
Like all media, radio is rapidly changing. In fact, Lacey (2013) states that "Radio is arguably becoming more prolific, more fragmented, more
manipulable, more mobile, and more global". This is evidenced by the fact that radio distribution has become more pervasive, production technology
has dramatically changed and the consumption habits of listeners have become diverse. There are several reasons as to why these changes are
happening and a prime example of this change in radio is Mediaworks multi–platform morning news and current affairs show, Paul Henry.

Here, "radio waves are sent from a transmitter to radio receivers using allotted frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum" (Chignell, 2009, p1). In
other words, speech from a person talking in a studio is turned into a radio wave, beamed across the airwaves to a receiving radio set and then turned
back into speech again for people to listen to. There are three main frequencies used in analogue radio – amplitude modulation, frequency modulation
and short wave. At first, Amplitude modulation or AM was the dominant frequency, however, people found that the quality was poor particularly
during the night. FM or frequency modulation soon took over as the preferred frequency as the sound quality was better and there was no interference
day or night (Chignell, 2009). For FM radio, they also found that the potential geographical reach could be manipulated by altering the amount of power
going into the transmitter. For example, a 100,000–watt transmitter could reach an area with a radius of 104 kilometres whereas a 50,000–watt
transmitter could only reach an area with a radius of 72 kilometres (Chignell, 2009). Analogue frequencies are still a common form of distribution in
New Zealand, but up until recently, this was the basis for all forms of radio communication.

  • 1. Z100 Target Audience Z100 has been New York's number one radio station for nearly 35 years. Started in 1983 by legendary DJ Scott Shannon, the station aimed to bring the Top 40 format back to New York. Now owned by iHeartRadio, the station continues to be at the forefront of popular music, playing music from established pop, hip–hop, R&B and rock artists, as well as debuting music from new artists. Read on to find out more about Z100 New York. Number Seven: The First Artists They Played as Z100 Were Survivor and Neil Diamond When WHTZ flipped formats from classical and jazz on August 2, 1983, the first voice one heard was Scott Shannon telling New York "it's time to wake up," followed by their first song, "Eye of the Tiger." He followed it up with Neil Diamond's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this is no longer the case. Now, their HD2 is the terrestrial broadcast home of Nick Radio, which features Top 40 artists that appeal to Nickelodeon's children and pre–teen audience. Number Two: Elvis Duran is Their Longest Standing DJ Elvis Duran has been with Z100 for nearly 20 years. He started with the in the afternoon slot and, in April 1996, he became the host of the "Z Morning Zoo." Changing the name to "Elvis Duran and the Morning Show" in 2008, but his tenure with the station is still going strong. Number One: They Went from Failing Station to Number One in Less Than Three Months When the station first started, it was the second station to attempt bringing the format to New York. It initially floundered in the ratings, coming in at number 20. Scott Shannon made a promise on the air that they were "going to unite and put the greatest radio station in America on the air. We are going to go from worst to first." Through guerilla marketing by the station's loyal fan base, with people posting homemade signs all over the city and recommending the station to friends in exchange for t–shirts, their rating went up radically in a short amount of time. In 73 days, they went from dead last to number one. Thank you for reading our list of seven interesting facts about Z100. We hope you enjoyed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Importance Of Co-Presence In Radio Broadcasting Radio broadcasting has become an influence in contemporary times as it is a way of communication to a wider audience. Through radio broadcasting, we are introduced to a variety of components, different music genres, currents events both locally and internationally, competitions, free giveaways and live interactions between presenters and listeners. However, it is the idea of co–presence that is stimulated through these components in which makes radio broadcasting exciting to listen to and engage with. The realm of co–presence within radio broadcast has defined how the audience is actually listening to their preferred radio stations. In this essay will discuss and break down concepts such as intimacy, liveness and the implied audience that define the hegemony of co–presence with in radio broadcasting as described by Hugh Chignell's in his text, Key Concepts in Radio Studies (2009). This essay will also be focusing on how the Mai FM breakfast show, Mai Mornings (2017), deliver Chignell's concepts in order to understand the importance of co–presence. Mai FM is a hip hop and RnB station that is broadcasted all over New Zealand, and throughout the radio station, Chignell's concepts are highlighted. Scholarly references will also be included throughout to shape the argument. Mai Mornings breakfast radio show and the overall show itself establishes a sense of co–presence through the idea of intimacy. • 3. The Effects Of Hispanic Radio On American Society Introduction In its most basic form, the radio has always played an inherent role in the development of societies around the world. Before the mobile first generation, and even the television, the radio was the device that families would allow into their home and embrace as a connection to the outside world. With no exception to this rule, Hispanic radio has shaped the growing minorities ' role in American society ever since its boom. Hispanic radio has been the unifying force between Latino communities, which provided them with culturally relevant news and information in their native language at a relatively low cost. Entire communities were given access to information relevant to their native land almost unattainable before. It has served as the political voice of Hispanics in America and offered alliance during the immigration purges of history. But for a long time Hispanic radio was nonexistent, many American companies were reluctant to cater to this specific public thinking that it would not turn out to be profitable. Hungry for a voice, Hispanic entrepreneurs took matters into their own hands and began to forge their own path in the radio world. Through much struggle, lack of funding, and even political opposition, Hispanic radio was born. Today, it is a successfully established platform used to influence the people 's taste in music, but also their political views and social perspectives as well as their shopping habits. In this article, I will discuss the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Radio Station Beliefs I Believe in Playing a Different Radio Station There are so many different radio stations out there, but it is very common for one to choose a very particular radio station. The ever popular is FM radio and the song that many people play the most is WIIFM. I believe in playing a different radio station. Knowing that I am going to go to college in just two years I have the pressure to get involved in the community and as expected my most listened to radio station decided to play. I was shocked and surprised, as many people, that there was no physical outcome from what I was getting myself into, but I stepped outside of my comfort zone and played a different radio station. Unusually I enjoyed and it felt like I drank a nice hot cup of cocoa on a bitter cold day. It was very much unexpected and the feeling was indescribable, it felt as if that song was just stuck in my head and I couldn't get it out. But this wasn't an irritating feeling. I could sleep at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was able to look at life from a new perspective and a new ear. I believe in playing a different radio station. Weather it's a simple jazz or a complicated rap and sell those albums to let others see the little good still left in the world. Playing a different radio station is essential in one's life, and even if there is no materialistic result there is still that fire that glows from within. The world is already so cruel and as generations come they are becoming worse and worse, and that radio station is becoming part of the most listened to station, 24/7 AM to FM. So, what I need to do is rewind and go back to the days where people were sympathetic. Change starts with the man in the mirror and I have vowed to myself that I will change my mentality and rarely listen to WIIFM. I never understood that I was playing that same radio station over and over again, and without even thinking I would play it and I wouldn't be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Analysis Of Susan Douglas On Amateur Operators Focus On... Historiography is the writing of the past. It is also the study of the way history events has been written by historians with their perspective and interpretations. As everything is interpreted to each owns perspective, some parts of history could have been skewed while being written with biases and favoritism according to the authors. We all understand things slight differently according to how we were raised, social and culture background, experiences, etc. The reading by Susan Douglas on amateur operators focus on young men and boys who were separated from regulation such as private firms, militaries, state, and etc. With the mindset of the ether belonging to "the people" was a major step in the making of radio broadcasting. She also emphasizes that American middle class boys saw the control and mastery of technology as a symbol of masculinity. It was usually young, middle–class, white boys and men who created their own stations. She highlights that the appearance of the boy inventor–hero was an important factor to the history of radio because it offered information about wireless and inspired boys to play around with the invention. Wireless work were tied with contemporary heroism and another reason were the ideas offered by young men who experimented. Stories such as the ones about Willenborg began to increase rapidly in numbers and opportunities in technology arose. Susan prioritizes Willenborg, the Americans who invested in stock in wireless companies, constructed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Day in the Life of a Dj Have you ever wondered as you were driving down the road listening to the radio, "How do they do that?" I certainly have, and so for my junior job shadow experience I chose to shadow Mike Shannon from 99.7 WDJX, a very popular radio personality in Louisville, Kentucky. I chose to shadow him because I was interested in how DJs do their job and how a radio station is run. I thought that the job would be fun, exciting, and I thought it would be interesting. Going in to the Radio station I already knew that it was probably a high stress job and that on occasion it was very exciting. Some of the questions I had going into the situation were, what kind of history is behind the radio and radio personalities and what kind of education do you... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Self–employed DJs usually pay for everything themselves. Some DJs become well known among the community and are asked to make public appearances around the community. Most DJs that are well know are the charismatic ones who are wild and crazy on air. Which leads me to my next question I had what kind of personality do you need to be a radio personality and what is the environment like? DJs are always trying to please the people. If people don 't listen to you the ratings go down. When I asked Mike what kind of personality is needed he responded by saying, "The person needs to be positive and outgoing. Also you need to be very patient with people who call in because not everyone is going to be nice and happy when they call in. So you need to be able to hold back rude comments you might want to say to them." (Mike) DJs must be able to multitask and between watching the clock, choosing music, answering the phones, reading reports, entertaining guests and the audience. Again everything is about timing. DJs are required to plan ahead and be able to keep up with everything that is going on. They must be able to play the next song or commercial on time. It can be difficult to keep up but once you do it for awhile it gets easier. Working at a radio station can be fun but stressful at the same time. Dust and temperature control are very important parts of keeping the equipment running and in good condition. DJs may not always have jobs either, especially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Pandora Radio New Models Of Doing Business: Pandora Radio As if the music industry has not seen enough change in recent years, Pandora Radio has started yet another music revolution. This time, however, the revolution is not about how the music is stored and collected (LP/CD/MP3 transformation), or how music is purchased (Record Stores/ iTunes transformation), but how we actually listen to music. Pandora Radio has created an amazing technology, which allows users to create and customize their own radio stations that automatically play new and unique songs that cater exactly to the users tastes and interests. Pandora has created a radio station that never plays that bad or annoying song. With Pandora, the user will never have to turn that proverbial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, there exist many intermediaries with the traditional radio business model. Disc Jockeys select the music to broadcast and station managers determine what type of genre and audience to target. With this old way of doing business, satisfying the customer was a never–ending challenge of hit and miss, where ratings were correlated to what was being played. With Pandora, customer satisfaction is inherent in their model. Users create their own stations to listen to, and are constantly customizing stations to tailor to their tastes. The argument can be posited that while Pandora does possess a new high technology and a new way of doing business, the existing technology support network cannot support Pandora–a large portion of radio is listened to people commuting in cars where an internet connection is beyond the normal means of consumers. This is a false assumption. The technology support network is currently undergoing change to meet the demand for internet connectivity anytime, anywhere. Technologies such as 3G and 4G allow devices to connect to the internet anywhere, and Pandora is currently developing players for automobiles, and applications for smart phones have already been developed and launched (Yarrow). Pandora's effort to allow users to utilize their service anywhere is another genius move of the company (Yarrow). By aligning themselves with the ongoing self–service evolution in ... The Pros And Cons Of The Hrome Bluetooth Speaker Bluetooth speakers exist in abundance today, but frustratingly few of them offer more than a crackling peep forced out of a flimsy plastic shell with the energy of an elderly woman trying to blow out all the candles on her 90th birthday cake. Despite the hundreds of thousands of models being produced by as many brands, a truly great Bluetooth speaker is almost impossible to find. Portable speaker enthusiasts who want to listen to their favorite music as it would be heard over a larger hi–fi stereo system don't have a whole lot of options, but the Hrome Bluetooth Speaker is one of them. Much controversy surrounds the activation of the FM chip, found within most of the cellphones manufactured worldwide. This chip allows the reception of FM radio. Opponents on both sides have stated their cases. There are those who view it as obsolete technology and others who see it as a necessity in an emergency. In dire situations this could be the only means of relaying important information to the masses. Until another reliable means is developed, FM radio should be available for all. Since its inception, radio has gone through many changes. In its infancy it was the only true form of electronic media. Radios became a requirement in all sea vessels, a result of the tragic sinking of the Titanic. During the Great Depression it grew in popularity due to its price, free. This was referred to as the "Golden Age of Radio." Radio remained the dominant force in media until the arrival of the television. The high fidelity of FM radio caught the interest of those who favored music programming, and with the addition of DJs, radio held it 's own. (Gross, Lynne Schafer, Electronic Media An Introduction, pg 3–8) Over the years, many new competitors have joined the media race. Technology has delivered new gadgets such as the MP3 player, iPod, and smartphones. New services like Amazon, Bandcamp, and iTunes have sprung up offering music downloads at low prices. Charge builds up on both sides of the junction implying a capacitance Cj. In a varactor diode, Cj is a function of the reverse bias voltage. During this application, the diode is biased such that this relationship is approximately linear. In the varactor diode modulator of Fig1.0, the carrier is coupled via a transformer to the tank circuit in the secondary. If design properly, ¦Èc(t) will vary at the same rate as the modulating signal so that ¦Èc(t)= a(t), where a(t) = kf В ЎГ’m(¦Ó)d¦Ó (i.e. an integrator, not shown in figure, is used beforehand to generate a(t)). • 18. Taking a Look at Radio Communication One of the most important contributions to communication is the invention of radio communication. It has provided a platform for wireless cellular communication. According to an article, it was first believed that 'The wireless telephone will also cover the seas, lakes and waterways, supplementing the wireless telegraph over short distances' (Burt, 1908, para. 3). If only he knew that wireless telegraph will become a thing of the past. The first effective radio communication system was developed by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, and scientist (Guglielmo Marconi Biography, n.d.). Marconi never had any formal scientific education (Bababian, 1992), but 'has been the recipient of honorary doctorates of several universities' (Guglielmo Marconi – Biographical, 2013, para. 8). He began experimenting with electromagnetic waves in 1894 when he was twenty years old. However, 'Nikola Tesla is now credited with being the first person to patent radio technology; the Supreme Court overturned Marconi's patent in 1943 in favour of Tesla. Carrier waveforms are the different ... • 23. Wireless Communication Essay Telecommunication occurs when the exchange of information between two or more entities (communication) includes the use of technology. Communication technology uses channels to transmit information (as electrical signals), either over a physical medium (such as signal cables), or in the form of electromagnetic waves.[1][2][3][4][5][6] The word is often used in its plural form, telecommunications, because it involves many different technologies. Early means of communicating over a distance included visual signals, such as beacons, smoke signals, semaphore telegraphs, signal flags, and optical heliographs.[7] Other examples of pre–modern long–distance communication included audio messages such as coded drumbeats, lung–blown horns, and loud whistles. Modern technologies for long–distance communication usually involve electrical and electromagnetic technologies, such as telegraph, telephone, and teleprinter, networks, radio, microwave transmission, fiber optics, and communications satellites. A revolution in wireless communication began in the first decade of the 20th century with the pioneering developments in radio communications by Guglielmo Marconi, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909. With all of the influence from the government, one must wonder was there another way it could have been done. The answer is no. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus, announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion, competitions, types of callers and news information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hopstation 'Mai FM' to New Zealand Media and Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. ' First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years, but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of content on audiences. However, access to basic skills and literacy education programs are crucial for improvements in the overall health, environment, and economic status of the communities and people of those areas. Intellectual Persuasion Of Radio Advertising Intellectual Persuasion of Radio Advertising George Scott Bain MKG350–1 – Promotion and Public Relations Colorado State University – Global Campus Professor CherylAnn Farrell February 07, 2016 Introduction Each and everyday individuals–namely radio listeners–are emotionally stimulated by thousands of daily news and commercial messages. Consumers of this traditional technology have to selectively process the information they receive in order to make what was heard more easily recalled. Because of this, advertisers put effort towards increasing the overall effect the product message has by employing different cognitive strategies that may, or may not affect a listener. For example, when CSU–Global Campus' marketing team creates an advertised message for radio audiences–regardless of the genre or listener segment–the strategy might be to employ two separate messages in two diverse markets. One message might promote a positive outcome such as achieving the degree one has always wanted, while perhaps the other would promote avoiding a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Fiber-Optic Telecommunications Systems Senior Science Research Project Aaron Aherne–Williams Fibre–Optic Telecommunications Systems: Fibre–optic telecommunications is simply a method of transmitting information from one place to another extremely fast. This is done by shooting pulses of light through an optical fibre. Creating the optical signal involving the use of a transmitter, relaying the signal along the fiber, ensuring that the signal does not become too distorted or weak, receiving the optical signal, and converting it into an electrical signal. An optic–fibre is a small fibre no thicker than a human hair, either made of glass or plastic that is transparent and flexible. The light inside the fibre–optic cable forms an electromagnetic carrier wave that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mobile Phones Brief Description of how mobile phones work: A mobile phone is a device that allows for two people to be connected over the world by a radio link. This is done by connecting to a cellular network, which is provided by telecommunication companies such as Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone being the three main in Australia. Once the cellular network is established it then connects to a cell, which is a tower, then the other phone. If the phone is out of reach from one the original tower the cell may transfer the call to another cell, this process is now so efficient and fast that both caller and receiver would never notice that this has taken place. This uses electromagnetic waves between substation–to–substation this is a combined technology of radio and the telephone. Modern day mobile phones have a wide variety of uses compared to the original mobile phones such as calling, text messages, multi–media messages, email, internet access, games, applications, calculators, music, videos, high resolution cameras and many other options that a only on some devices these are things like Microsoft capabilities and also GPS systems. The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of electric charges in different media, including in vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can be precisely portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell 's conditions, which were obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the relative areas and movements of different charges in its vicinity. Extra significant laws of physical sciences incorporate Newton 's law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations for charge, energy, control, as well as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion of the "electrical" in "electrical designing" and are fundamental to a sound comprehension of that area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his famous equations, the doors opened up for significant research into the application of electromagnetic waves in every day life (Becker & Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of Maxwell's theory was that electric fields and magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even though it was assumed that these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in space, it was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that all EM waves travel with the same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). The branch of electrical engineering has conveyed four "wonders" – sets of marvels that could each be viewed as genuine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Radio Waves And The Radio The science of radios has been around for a long time, with many scientists making contributions. It all started in 1860 James Maxwell predicted the existence of radio waves. In 1886, Heinrich Hertz proved that radio waves could be manipulated to form sound. Radio waves were first put to work to make telegraphs, but then Lee DeForest figured out how to amplify waves to make them audible over long distances, effectively inventing the first radio. By 1915, humans had perfected AM radio broadcasting and were able to transmit across oceans for the first time. However, the FM radio was yet to be conceived and it took until 1933 until Edwin Armstrong learned how to improve audio signal and broadcasting range, which led to FM radio. The radio... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a real radio station, the radio will have an assigned frequency so no two stations will be broadcasting over each other. When a radio is tuned to a number, it is really being tuned to that number's frequency. Electromagnetic waves are very important to radios because they provide a medium at which to output a sound. Because of their properties of magnetism and electricity, they are able to broadcast a sound at a distance of which no other medium can. Radios are truly complicated devices, but they can be simplified by breaking them down into important parts, as the tester will do in this experiment. One important part is the transformer. A transformer, in this case, will transfer the output from the headphone jack into a radio signal. However, transformers are not only used on radios, but are essential in almost any device involving sound. Once the transformer sends out the radio signal, it is sent to the crystal oscillator which is another important part. The oscillator makes an electromagnetic frequency by vibrating a piece of crystal. Once it is modified by the oscillator, the signal is complete and ready to be broadcasted. However, none of this could have happened without the source of power, which in this case is either 4 AA batteries or a 9V radio battery. The type of battery is the deciding factor in this experiment, and also one of the key components in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way consumers listen to music now, is nothing like the how it was in the past. The same amount of change has gone into the way that artist, producers, and labels make their money as well. The industry will continue to change and develop as we move further into the future. The advancements in technology have allowed for more convenience for the consumer. The consumer can now sit at their computer and listen to whatever music they want instantly for a much smaller cost than having to go to the store and buy the artist's whole album. The age of being able to hold music in your hand is over and everything is now streamed through the internet. During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the work week, internet radio has approximately three times the amount of listeners as all broadcast radio channels combined at all times of the day [1]. While broadcast radio is quickly declining, there is still about $16 billion in advertising revenue coming into the industry [1]. This is a large enough amount of money that broadcast radio won't die out in the next couple years. The radios can still play the hot new hits from major artist and obtain enough listeners to create advertising revenue. As listeners have migrating from AM radio to FM radio to internet radio, the major advertisers have followed right behind them. The advertising companies want to market where they can hit the most consumers for the smallest amount of money. If there is three times the amount of people listening on the internet than on broadcast radio; it only makes sense to advertise on the internet radio and hit three times the amount of consumers as the same add on broadcast radio would. As we move further into the future, the music industry will be less about selling music to the consumer through iTunes, CS's, or MP3's and turn more to selling listeners to advertisers to make the money. Music streaming has been helped along with the development of music algorithms. These will only develop further in the future and create an even better music listening experience than what we have now. The music algorithms are used by all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Frequency Modulation ANGLE MODULATION Chapter Objectives This chapter will help you to: 1.Define and explain the processes of frequency modulation (FM) and phase modulation (PM) and state their differences. 2.Calculate the modulation index given the maximum deviation and maximum modulating frequency, determine the significant number of sidebands in an FM signal, and calculate the bandwidth of an FM signal. 1.Frequency Modulation 2.Phase Modulation Frequency Modulation: (Definition & Introduction) FM is a technique in which the instantaneous frequency of the carrier wave is varied according to the instantaneous amplitude of the modulating signal. In other words if the amplitude of the modulating signal increases, then there will be a corresponding increase in the frequency of the modulated wave, similarly if the amplitude of the modulating signal decreases, then there will be a corresponding ... This sinusoidal increase in the amplitude of the modulating signal is mapped on to the carrier signal by increasing its frequency. At time T3, the amplitude of the modulating signal is zero and hence there will not be any deviation in the carrier frequency from its original value. Thus between time T2 and T3, the frequency of the modulated carrier increases from its minimum value attained at time t2. • 37. Electronic Media And Its Impact On The World Since its inception radio has gone through many changes. In its infancy it was the only true form of electronic media. Radios became a requirement in all sea vessels, a result of the tragic sinking of the Titanic. During the Great Depression it grew in popularity due to its price, free. This was referred to the "Golden Age of Radio." Radio remained the dominant force in media until the arrival of the television. The high fidelity of FM radio caught the interest of those who favored music programming and with the addition of DJs, radio held it 's own. Over the years many new competitors have joined the media race. Technology has delivered new gadgets such as the MP3 player, iPod, and smartphones. New services like Amazon, Bandcamp, and iTunes have sprung up offering music downloads at low prices. Streaming services on smartphones have grown in popularity, Pandora, Spotify and Google Play being three of the forerunners. All this and radio still holds on. They are found in virtually every automobile. Local broadcast radio is commonly heard in local restaurants and bars. Last but not least, you likely have one in your pocket, your smartphone. Smartphone manufacturers founded the feature cost them little to add and it has been quite popular in developing countries outside of the United States. The majority of smartphones manufacturers included an FM chip in its design which allows the user to receive FM radio. Though most phones around the world have them, two–thirds of those in ... This is achieved through the use of a number of different network media platforms either in Analogue or Digital form; including the Internet and traditional wired and wireless broadcasting such as AM/ FM networks. The objective of this report is to choose two examples of a broadcast radio platform – one being digital with the other being analogue and then describe in detail of the modulation methods employed in each case. The 2 broadcast radio platforms that will be focused on in this report will be AM/ FM and Digital Radio (DAB); providing background information on each technology and specify modulation methods used by each in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the signal is received, these receivers will demodulate the signal – meaning to extract the modulation from the received signal. AM AM (Amplitude Modulation) is the original way of broadcasting radio. Lee de Forest and Reginald Fessenden are given credit for the development of the technique which was carried out successfully for the first time in the mid–1870s, its frequency ranges from 535 to 1705 KHz and the typical bandwidth of an AM channel is 10 kHz. The name 'AM' itself gives a clear indication to the type of modulation technique used; Amplitude Modulation. Amplitude Modulation is a modulation technique which works is by modifying the carrier wave's strength by increasing or decreasing its peaks in line with the variations of the input sound; the strength of the wave is known as amplitude, through all of this the frequency remains constant – the same. This type of modulation technique is more susceptible to noise and or interference due to the fact noise effects amplitude directly. The change in signal strength allows the conveyance of information through the radio wave that is sent out via a transmitter and is received by a radio device otherwise known as the receiver. When the signal is received, demodulation takes place; this can be dealt with in two ways depending on the device. Either a Diode AM detector will carry out the demodulation (which is ... • 40. Radio Is Becoming More Prolific Like all media, radio is rapidly changing. In fact, Lacey (2013) states that "Radio is arguably becoming more prolific, more fragmented, more manipulable, more mobile, and more global". This is evidenced by the fact that radio distribution has become more pervasive, production technology has dramatically changed and the consumption habits of listeners have become diverse. There are several reasons as to why these changes are happening and a prime example of this change in radio is Mediaworks multi–platform morning news and current affairs show, Paul Henry. On Tuesday 7th of April 2015, Mediaworks launched their first 'multi–platform' breakfast show Paul Henry ("Paul Henry reveals", 2015). With Henry at the helm of the show, viewers could ... In other words, speech from a person talking in a studio is turned into a radio wave, beamed across the airwaves to a receiving radio set and then turned back into speech again for people to listen to. There are three main frequencies used in analogue radio – amplitude modulation, frequency modulation and short wave. At first, Amplitude modulation or AM was the dominant frequency, however, people found that the quality was poor particularly during the night. FM or frequency modulation soon took over as the preferred frequency as the sound quality was better and there was no interference day or night (Chignell, 2009). For FM radio, they also found that the potential geographical reach could be manipulated by altering the amount of power going into the transmitter. For example, a 100,000–watt transmitter could reach an area with a radius of 104 kilometres whereas a 50,000–watt transmitter could only reach an area with a radius of 72 kilometres (Chignell, 2009). Analogue frequencies are still a common form of distribution in New Zealand, but up until recently, this was the basis for all forms of radio communication. Research ratings tell us that fewer Kiwis are listening in to the conventional form of radio. Over the past 15 years, listener numbers have dropped 20 percent ("People are ... News on the radio "News is not reality, but a supply of sources' potrayals of reality, mediated by news organisations." Leon V. Sigal, quoted in Manoff and Schudson, Reading the News 3.1 What is news? Even if limited to just a minute or two at the top of each hour, news act as a punctuation mark between programmes or time periods. According to Barnard (2000: 139), the news is often В„a measure of a station's credibility and a major factor in the buying and selling of media on an international scale". One could say that the news is constituted of an accurate, balanced and timely reportage on the events of the day, or a combination of what will interest and engage the public. But the primary point is that news never just В‘happens': what appears in a bulletin is an attempt to a comprehensible interpretation of selected events, and as such is never wholly value–free. (cf. Barnard 2000: 139–149) 3.2 News values The purpose of news is to translate what is happening in the world in terms that make it comprehendable В– that is, understandable according to listener expectations and experience.
