Structure
5. To infinitive
The most common uses of the infinitive are:
1.
To indicate the purpose or intention of an action (where the
'to' has the same meaning as 'in order to' or 'so as to'):
- A flower needs sperm in pollen to combine with the
flower’s egg
2.
As the subject of the sentence:
- To combine with sperm in pollen makes seeds.
3.
With nouns or pronouns, to indicate what something can be
used for, or what is to be done with it:
- A flower needs sperm in pollen to combine with the
flower’s egg to make seeds.
After adjectives in these patterns:

It is + adjective +to-infinitive
- It is good to grow.
2.
It is + adjective + infinitive + for someone + to-infinitive.
- It is easy for bees to see flowers.
3.
It is + adjective + infinitive + of someone + to-infinitive.
- It is unkind of her to say that.
After an adjective + noun when a comment or judgment is being
made:
This is the right thing to do.
With too and enough in these patterns:

too much/many (+ noun) + to-infinitive
- There's too much sperm to combine with the flower’s egg.

The parts of a flower
Most flowers, like the ones in the pictures on this page, have
four parts. Notice the flower buds. The green parts of flower bud
are the sepals. They cover and protect the flower growing inside.
As the flower grows, it forces the sepals apart. The bud opens
into a beautiful flower.
When you look at a flower, you probably notice the petals
first. The petals are the colorful parts of the flower. The petals
attract bees, butterflies, birds, and other living things.
Notice the five small, knoblike structures in the center of the
ring of petals. These structure make up the pistil is the part of the
flower that make eggs. The eggs will grow into seeds when they
are combined with sperm in pollen.
Now look just below the pistil. You can see the cluster of
7. stamens with rounded tips. The stamens make tiny grains of
pollen at their tips. A flower needs sperm in pollen to combine
with the flower’s egg to make seeds.
