Technologies Chapter 1.- The technological process
1/6
Introduction
Technology is as old as mankind.
Technology consists of a set of knowledge and skills, properly organized and systematized,
which allows people to satisfy their needs and therefore improve their living conditions.
Science is the set of knowledge acquired by humans through experimentation and study.
Technique consists of the set of abilities or skills that human beings possess.
The technological process is the working method used by technology which consists of the
ordered sequence of stages that must be followed to satisfy a need or to solve a problem.
Need or Problem-----> Technological process----->Solution
Stages of the Technological Process
Appendix
The work plan consists of organizing the construction phase so that it is divided into simple
and ordered operations in order to do the task successfully and in the shortest time possible.
Project Report is a set of documents that describes the technological process that we have
followed.
Technology classroom
Technology classroom is the place where we learn / practise the different activities of the
technological process.
Technologies Chapter 1.- The technological process

− Design and experimentation area
− Construction area
− Storage area
Organization of workshop activities
- The coordinator and secretary: is responsible for organising the work of each group
member to achieve efficient teamwork. This person represents the group. Also
collects, checks and organises all written documents from each group member (plans,
process reports, estimates, etc.)
- The person responsible for the material: collects the material needed for the work
and is also in charge of recycling leftover material.
- The person responsible for the tools and for health and safety: looks after the tools
assigned to the group to make sure they are not lost or damaged. Also makes sure that
the group members follow the health and safety rules in the workshop and when using
tools.
- The person in charge of cleaning: makes sure each workstation is left completely
clean.
Respecting the work rules
- Using rules: indicate to us how to properly use the space, facilities, tools and
machines.
- Conservation rules: tell us how to maintain space, facilities, tools and machines in
good condition.
- Safety rules: are the instructions that must be followed to avoid accidents.

history to satisfy a need or desire. What need are the people trying to satisfy in the activity
in each of the cartoons?
The people are trying to satisfy the need for ..................
2) Thanks to technology we have many ways to satisfy our needs. Match each picture with
the need it satisfies.
-energy…..
-housing…..
-transportation…..
-recreation…..
-clothing…..
-food…..
-personal hygiene…..
-information…..
-health…..
-communication…..
3) Describe in order the operations that must be followed to:
Replace batteries in TV remote control.
Replace the defective bulb of a lamp.
4) Match each of the following activities with the source of information.
ACTIVITIES SOURCE OF INFORMATION

f) Save unfinished work.
8) Indicates whether the rules which are listed below, belong to the use and conservation
rules or safety rules:
a) Use each technology classroom area for the function assigned to it.
b) Use protection elements when necessary.
c) Do not play with tools or machines.
d) Keep the technology classroom neat and clean.
9) Make your own summary of the chapter, using the keywords to fill in the blanks.
Keyword: knowledge, needs, method, stages, to solve, Search for information, Evaluation,
ordered, time, stage, project report, space, design, general, conservation safety.
a) Technology consists of a set of knowledge and skills, properly organized and
systematized, which allows people to satisfy their needs and therefore improve their
living conditions.
b) The technological process is the working method used by technology which
consists of the ordered sequence of stages that must be followed to satisfy a need or
to solve a problem.
c) The technological process consists of the following stages: Description and analysis
of the need or problem, Search for information, Generation and selection of ideas,
Construction, Evaluation.
d) The work plan consists of organizing the construction phase so that it is divided into
simple and ordered operations in order to do the task successfully and in the
shortest time possible.
e) After completing the evaluation stage of a technological process, it must be
concluded the writing of the process project document.
f) The technology classroom is best space to develop the various activities of the
technological process. It can contain the following areas: design and
experimentation, construction and storage.
g) Due to classroom technology infrastructure, besides the observance of general rules
of the school, it is also necessary to respect the rules of use and conservation and
safety rules.
10) Indicate two sources of information you could consult to satisfy each one of the following
requirements:
a) build a wooden shelf,
b) electrical installation in a kitchen
c) move around in a big city.
11) Below are some activities that are necessary to develop the process of making a photo
frame. Tell which stage of process corresponds to each of these activities.
a) Make a plan of work.
b) Define the problem.
c) Design the object.
d) Analyze existing photo frames.
e) Cut the slats.
f) Look for possible defects.
12) Indicate whether the following sentences are true or false (if false, explain why):
a) The technological process only exists when building an object.
b) The technology classroom is the physical space that is used to perform
technological processes.
c) When finished with the classroom technology, there is no need to leave it neat and
clean as these tasks are performed by the school's cleaning staff .
