 What is VoIP?
 Scope and Objectives
 Advantages of VoIP
 VoIP and Open source systems
 Hosted PBX servers and GUI’s
 Ways of using VoIP
 Migration to VoIP
 Cost effective methods of VoIP
 VoIP in India and problems
 Conclusion
 There are three popular ways to say it, with none
being a definitive "right" way. All are correct.
 Some people will use the full acronym,
    pronouncing each letter "V-O-I-P".
 Some people will use the first two words
combined with IP (pronounced as separate letters).
This is actually more like a phrase "Voice-Over-I-
    P".
 Some will say the acronym as a word, just as it
sounds (like void only with a p at the end) "voyp".
 Regarding the business VoIP market, in early
2006, Yankee Group predicted a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.4 percent,
adding that the market would reach nearly $3.3
    billion in 2010.
 According a report from BBC there is about
2.2trillion dollar VoIP market in India by 2012.
 Voice packets transported using IP
 Traditional networking infrastructure carries
    voice traffic
 Standards based (e.g., H.323, G.711, G.729,
    RTP, UDP, IP, RSVP)
 To make a low cost and efficient
    communication system
 Better Utilization Of Bandwidth
 Keep track of the calls.
 Enhances the “office of the future”
 Mobility and integration of voice mail, electronic mail, FAX,
        and video technologies
 Single network management system
 Simplifies moves, adds, and changes for phones
 Choice of phone power
 Flexible IP address assignment
 Increased system redundancy
This 555 seat, double
deck Airbus A380, is
the worlds largest jet,
it uses Linux to run all
of this plane’s
instruments.
Who wouldn’t feel
safe using a phone
system that utilizes an
operating system just
like this?
These Systems are
 proprietary. They each are
 good with their own
 strengths and weakness’s.

Then there is the “new best of Breed”
1) Auto Attendant - Answer all calls
professionally, without the need for a
   receptionist
2) Voicemail - Never full, Personal greetings,
   Email Notifications
3) Call Routing - Follow-me calling, Virtual
extensions, Transfer calls to other extensions,
the operator, voicemail, or a queue
4) User Experience - Caller ID/preview, Call
   screening, Do-not-disturb
5) Record any call by pressing *1 (silently or
   announced)
6) Conferencing - Conference-on-demand, Every
   extension, Flexible security
7) Mail-only extensions - Play informational
   messages or just take messages
8) Music jukebox - Choose different songs in a
   variety of styles
9) Block calls to specific phone numbers,
   exchanges or area codes
 PC to PC
 PC to Phone
 Phone to PC
 Have to deal with packet loss, jitter, and delay
 Have to deal with the bandwidth issues in the
    places which lack proper infrastructure.
 What are some of the differences?
     System administration
     Phone features
 Cisco PAP2 Adapter or any Analog to digital
    voice converter
 Normal phone with RJ45 socket.
 Lan cables.
 Internet bandwidth.(64Kbps minimum
    recommended.)
 IP phone.
 VoIP technology hit the Indian Markets quite
late, but has picked up very fast.
 VoIP is much in demand in India, as India has
lots of outsourcing business which leads to lots
of communication expenses with their foreign
    counterparts .
 Still today there are many places in India
where the bandwidth quality is not sufficient
    enough to use VoIP technology.
 The Government Authorities like TRAI and
DOT has not been able to implement policies in
India to encourage the foreign companies to
    invest in India.
 Heavy License fees is one of those factors.
