McKinley was the 25th U.S. president who was assassinated in office. He oversaw the Spanish-American War and sought to annex Hawaii. Strange coincidences suggest McKinley fell under "Tecumseh's Curse" where presidents elected in years ending in zero that fell between William Henry Harrison and John F. Kennedy were assassinated or died in office.
