14. HOW DOES BARTER WORK?
MBE operates much like a bank. A new business owner joins the exchange and opens a
barter checking account to record deposits and charges.
A client company is credited in “trade dollars” for products or services supplied to
another client firm and those trade credits can then be used to purchase goods or services
from any other MBE member. Trade dollars are credited dollar-for-dollar according to
the normal cash price of whatever is being sold. Firms receiving goods or services
likewise are debited in trade dollars.

A client company is credited in “trade dollars” for products or services supplied to
another client firm and those trade credits can then be used to purchase goods or services

How does a client utilize the MBE network?

HOW DOES BARTER WORK?
MBE operates much like a bank. A new business owner joins the exchange and opens a
barter checking account to record deposits and charges.
A client company is credited in “trade dollars” for products or services supplied to
another client firm and those trade credits can then be used to purchase goods or services
from any other MBE member. Trade dollars are credited dollar-for-dollar according to
the normal cash price of whatever is being sold. Firms receiving goods or services
likewise are debited in trade dollars.
The MBE method utilizes a barter check. All accounting for MBE is done centrally with
transactions recorded by computer and monthly statements provided to clients. MBE
clients are free to spend their trade dollars with any of the member companies.
