The document is a summary of the Gospel reading from John 3:1-17 about Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus. It discusses how Jesus tells Nicodemus that one must be "born again" or "born from above" to see the kingdom of God. Jesus explains that flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. Those who have faith in the Son will have eternal life.

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

6. John 3:1-8
1 There was a man named Nicodemus who was a Pharisee and a Jewish leader.
2 One night he went to Jesus and said, quot;Sir, we know that God has sent you to teach us. You
could not work these miracles, unless God were with you.quot;
3 Jesus replied, quot;I tell you for certain that you must be born from above before you can see God's
kingdom!quot;
4 Nicodemus asked, quot;How can a grown man ever be born a second time?quot;
5 Jesus answered: I tell you for certain that before you can get into God's kingdom, you must be
born not only by water, but by the Spirit.
6 Humans give life to their children. Yet only God's Spirit can change you into a child of God.
7 Don't be surprised when I say that you must be born from above.
8 Only God's Spirit gives new life. The Spirit is like the wind that blows wherever it wants to. You
can hear the wind, but you don't know where it comes from or where it is going.

9. John 3:9-16
9 quot;How can this be?quot; Nicodemus asked.
10 Jesus replied: How can you be a teacher of Israel and not know these things?
11 I tell you for certain that we know what we are talking about because we have seen it ourselves.
But none of you will accept what we say.
12 If you don't believe when I talk to you about things on earth, how can you possibly believe if I talk
to you about things in heaven?
13 No one has gone up to heaven except the Son of Man, who came down from there.
14 And the Son of Man must be lifted up, just as that metal snake was lifted up by Moses in the
desert.
15 Then everyone who has faith in the Son of Man will have eternal life.
16 God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has
faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.

16. Romans 8:12-17
So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- for if
you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body,
you will live.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of
slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption.
When we cry, quot;Abba! Father!quot; it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are
children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ-- if, in fact, we
suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

19. Exodus 3:1-6
Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock
beyond the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD
appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not
consumed.
Then Moses said, quot;I must turn aside and look at this great sight, and see why the bush is not
burned up.quot; When the LORD saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush,
quot;Moses, Moses!quot; And he said, quot;Here I am.quot; Then he said, quot;Come no closer! Remove the sandals from
your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.quot;
He said further, quot;I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God
of Jacob.quot; And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

22. Matthew 28:16-20
Jesus' eleven disciples went to a mountain in Galilee, where Jesus
had told them to meet him. They saw him and worshiped him, but
some of them doubted.
Jesus came to them and said: I have been given all authority in
heaven and on earth! Go to the people of all nations and make
them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have
told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.
