This document summarizes the research and development activities of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 02. 9. Maize Silky Sip
• 30 Php/330 ml bottle
• 50 Php/500 ml bottle It is a refreshing and healthy
drink made from boiled fresh corn silk.
It has diuretic properties (good for
those having problem on urinary tract
infection or difficulty in urinating) and
contains anti-oxidants from added
honey and lemongrass juice extract.

10. •For 1 kg of corn silk
• Boil 10 liters of water and add
100 grams lemongrass Stalk and
leaves and 1 kg corn silk
• Simmer under low to medium
heat for 15 minutes
• Remove lemongrass and corn
silk.
• Filter the Maize Silky Sip
• Add 600ml honey and stir
• Fill The Maize Silky Sip in
Sterilized bottles/ Standup Tetra

Binatog that is fried to perfection as snack
food for all ages and good for
“Pasalubong” and simple gatherings
serving as pika-pika (finger food). Unlike
traditional cornics, this kind of cornic is not
hard to chew being cracked hence, not
undergone nixtamalization process
(involving use of limewater for corn seed
soaking).
12. SELECT, GRADE AND CLEAN the corn grits, make
sure to remove small stones or other foreign
materials that may be present from your grits.
13. Place the 5kg glutinous corn grits on a 30 liter
capacity casserole. Wash the grits it in flowing
water like cooking rice and add 20 to 25 liters
of water.
14. Cook for 3 to 4 hours with occasional stirring
to avoid burning the grits.
15. Wash the cook grits in flowing water and drain to cool and
remove the excess water.
16. Place the dried corn binatog in a hermetic plastic (Super Grain
Bag)and stock for 2 days. Dehydrate for 2 hours. Deep fried the dried
corn binatog (350-400°C). When the binatog floats in the hot oil,
remove the Cracknic and drain excess oil.
17. Let it cool and add your favorite flavoring. Package and seal.

A traditional non-caffeine drink (coffee
beans substitute/alternate) made from a blend of
pan- roasted white and purple corn grits. It is
good for those suffering from heart palpitation and
avoiding coffee late in the afternoon and at night
time due to fear of insomnia or hard sleep. The
coffee granules can also serve as breakfast
cereal to minimize satiety for more intake of rice.

19. SELECT, GRADE AND CLEAN the corn grits, make
sure to remove small stones or other foreign
materials that may be present in the grits.
20. Pan roast 1kg of Corn grits over low to medium heat for
at least 30 minutes and stir the grits continuously to
achieve even roasting.
21. Let the roasted corn grits rest for at least 15 minutes, before packaging.
A kilo of grits may yield up to 700 grams of Café Bagga (120 cups/
servings of coffee drink)

Corn helps in the PREVENTION of digestive ailments like
constipation and hemorrhoids as well as colorectal
cancer.
Some components present in corn act as ANTI-CANCER
agents and prevent Alzheimer’s.
CARBOHYDRATES compose about 85% of the corn kernel.
This carbohydrate or starch is made up of AMYLOSE, a
straight chain glucose polymer and AMYLOPECTIN, its
branched counterpart.
The FIBER content of one cup of corn equals 18.4% of the
daily recommended allowance.
This aids in alleviating DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS such as
constipation and hemorrhoids, as well as lowering the
risk of colon cancer.
