Modular
Learning
An Overview
What is Modular Learning?
– Discovery Learning, learner-centered method
– Presented in mini-lessons designed within the level of
learners’ self-understanding
– Must have a learning environment that allows them to
progress at self-paced
– Developed instructional materials based on the needs of
the students
– Encouraging independent study
– Self-contained package of learning activities
Benefits of Modular Learning TO
LEARNERS:
1. Better self-study or learning skills habits
2. A sense of responsibility in accomplishing
the tasks provided
3. Learners progress on their own; learn
how to learn, become empowered
4. Meaningful bond with the family
Benefits of Modular Learning TO
TEACHERS:
1. Can attend to different students who work on
varied tasks
2. More purposeful monitoring of students’ works
and progress
3. Occupied with legitimate activities
4. Strengthens the overlapping capacity of the
teacher to attend to varying needs of the
students and without compromising the quality
of instruction

PARENTS:
1. Spend more engaging time and bonding time
with their children
2. Free from worrying for the safety of their
children
3. Less expenses (no “baon”)
4. Directly monitor their children’s learning
progress
5. Create an immense impact in the growth of the
learner

For PARENTS
Tips for Supporting Learning at
Home
– During the coronavirus crisis, parents have suddenly been thrust into the role
of managing the education of their children.
– There are many psychological developments happening for students at this age,
including:
– Forming individual identity and values
– Learning skills to be independent and productive
– Establishing emotional independence from parents
– Developing sexuality and gender-based social roles
– Building more mature relationships with peers
Source: Miller, Caroline (2020). Grades 10-12: Tips for Supporting Learning at Home. Child Mind Institute.
Tips for Supporting Learning at
Home
– Moreover, high school is a critical period for adolescents to develop the
necessary skills for whatever paths they choose in heir transitions to adulthood.
– Read and think critically
– Write research papers
– Give oral presentations
– Communicate in the second language
– Understand that problems can be solved in multiple ways
Source: Miller, Caroline (2020). Grades 10-12: Tips for Supporting Learning at Home. Child Mind Institute.
How can parents best support
students in high school?
– Support their organizational skills
– Create a framework for learning
– Collaborate with teachers
– Provide opportunities outside of learning
– Help them get a good night’s sleep
For Grades 9-10:
– Stick to a schedule
– Set up an effective workspace
– Support executive functioning
– Set clear boundaries
– Build independence
How should parents work with
teachers of students?
– Some topics you and your high schooler may discuss with the teacher and
relevant staff include:
– How to access online resources and materials for class
– Potential changes to remaining coursework, assignments, and exams
– How grades will be calculated or adjusted
– Opportunities for remote tutoring or individual support
– Feedback specific to the student’s work and level of engagement
– Status of final exams
Reading as a way of cultivating the
love for learning:
1. Read to your child from the earliest age.
2. Begin visiting the library regularly.
3. Don’t push your child to learn to read.
4. Read to your child as often as possible.
5. Don’t stop reading to him once he learns to read.
6. Ritualize daily reading time.
7. Help him tackle the next level.
8. Help him improve his reading by alternating pages with him.
9. Try smart comics for reluctant readers.
10. Never stop reading to him.
Healthy Lifestyle:
– Encourage good sleep habits: children and teenagers need about 8 to 10 hours
of sleep each night.
– Help your child aim for at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
– Encourage your child to make healthy food choices to fuel his growth and
development.
– Help your child keep a healthy balance between study, work, and play. This
might meet looking at how many nights your child is out doing things, how
much down time he has, how much he can contribute to family life through
chores, how many family meals you have together and so on.
For TEACHERS
Conditions to Consider:
– Gadgets or IT tools be available for teachers and
learners
– Depends upon the number of learners to be handled
by the teacher
– Availability of teachers per grade level / per subject
– Internet connectivity at home for teachers / learners
– Availability of learning resources
