The Terrible Moment Many people define their lives by the relationships within their family. They are someone's daughter, someone's wife, or
someone's mother or father. The loss of a family member, especially due to death, creates a radical readjustment to people's day to day lives and
how they see and feel about themselves. Sometimes the process of grief can last over several years and how it is mentally processed and dealt
with is different for everyone. "Mud" by Geoffrey Forsyth, shows an insightful view of a grieving man who had already lost his father and
grandmother and is now just coming to terms with the loss of his wife two years prior. The entire story is written in first person point of view which
allows for the reader to fully engage themselves in the grief and strife of the narrator's life. Geoffrey's story "Mud" begins in the home of the narrator
where he encounters these dead family members and has to decide if he is ready to move on from his grief and say goodbye or stay behind and be
consumed by it.

Abstract: There is very little known about the Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse (SMHM). In 1970, SMHM was added to the endangered list, largely due to
the fact their salt water habitats 84% gone. With the mouse being just under 3 inches in length, nocturnal, loving its dense cover protection, and the
close resemblance to the Western Harvest Mouse, it makes field identification very difficult. Further research is needed not only into the population
numbers of SMHM, but its habitat as well. Capture–recapture will be used to assess the SMHM population, where it will be measured, weighed, a
patch of hair taken for re–identification, and released back into its habitat. Subplots will also be measured for the Pickleweed population using USFS
protocol. Despite conservation efforts, there is a lot more that needs to be done to evaluate SMHM and its habitat to ensure its continued survival. The
objective of this research proposal is to measure the SMHM population and its habitat, in order to evaluate the probability of its continued survival.
The results of this research will be forwarded to the appropriate agency for further conservation efforts of SMHM in the San Francisco Bay.

discouraged and frustrated. As I opened my eyes, I watched as several different girls started sliding face first through the puddles of mud. They
were laughing and talking together. They embraced what the environment had bestowed upon them, and took the time to get to know one another.
The mud and rain had brought such a diverse group of girls together. In that moment, I felt the change with every gust of wind. There were twenty
girls surrounding me with a common goal and a love for the game. They were all from a diverse background brought together due to this
commonality. At this moment of frustration, due to practice being over, they all came together to enjoy life. At the age of 17, I had started a
movement of change. Perhaps at that time I did not realize the magnitude of what I had started. I was able to put in place a girl soccer team, with
no funding from the school and completely on my own. This in itself is an achievement and has allowed girls to play soccer at Wilson Memorial

At The Somme: A Song Of The Mud
The poem "At The Somme: A song of the Mud" by Mary Borden discusses the challenging conditions that the soldiers' had to endure every day while
in the war. This poem is about soldiers having to leave their families/friends to go to the war. They are willing to leave though because they know they
are doing it so that their families could have a free country. Initially, the theme is shown by personification. The author says: "The frothing, squirting,
spurting, liquid, mud that gurgles along the road beds;" (l. 4) As the poem progresses, the persona uses diction to emphasize the negative and positive
aspects about the mud, but mostly negative. "The impertinent, the intrusive, the ubiquitous, the unwelcome,"(l. 19) "The slimy inveterate nuisance," (l.
20) As the poem comes to an end, the persona personifies the description of the mud to make the reader understand the struggle for the soldiers
because of the mud. "The mute enormous mouth of the mud has closed over them." (l. 46) This poem helps the reader put themselves in the soldiers

At the beginning of the poem, the soldiers had to battle in terrible mud that covers the battlefield. The mud was everywhere, but the soldiers had to just
keep fighting. Mary uses strong descriptive words to describe the mud that covers the battlefields. "The frothing, squirting, spurting, liquid that gurgles
along the road beds;" (l. 4). The main idea from that quote helps describe what the mud was like that the soldiers had to battle in. Borden uses
descriptive words to describe how the mud is very unwelcome. "The impertinent, the intrusive, the ubiquitous, the unwelcome,"(l. 19). The key idea in
