Each person plays a different part of the song, with a unique flavor and purpose. If one asks any
orchestra player what an orchestra is, one will most likely hear the words "selflessness," "respect,"
and "consideration." Professional conductors, or leaders of any organization, do not glare at a
player for missing a beat or playing a wrong note. Professional players do not try to play louder than
anyone else in the orchestra so their sound is distinguished; instead, they lower themselves and try to

I grab the white headphones and put the EarPods into my ears. Then, I go through a variety of
songs until my thumb lingers over the song "You Know Me" by a band named Thunder Dreamer.
Quickly, I click play and the world around me stops as the music enters my ears. The soft guitar
strums put an end to my over thinking and suppresses my feelings of sadness. By the time the vocals

World music is basically any type of music from all around the world. This music is generally
noticeable from the other countries, either by instruments used, or lyrically it is different. These
things are what make it easy to tell the difference between the different countries and what type of
music it is. World music can be anything from different countries so it may sound different to how

The movie leads us to think that the root of Nazism lay solely with Germany, and that it was evil
Germans under Hitler who overthrew innocent Austria and turned it into a fascist nation. Because
most Americans are not history buffs on Austria's role in the Anschluss, we tend to believe that
The Sound of Music, or perhaps even Schindler's List, presents us with completely factual
evidence. In a sense, we have allowed this movie to be a history book that tells the tale of the
Anschluss. Because German Nazism is presented so negatively in the movie, of course an American
audience will side with the Austrians who are so innocently represented by the VonTrapp family. No
one else is there to tell the audience any differently.
In the minds of the American audience, The Sound of Music creates a story of an innocent Austria
trying to escape the evils of Nazi Germany. The movie was correct in showing that many Austrians
wanted to remain Austrian vs. becoming German, but the overwhelming majority of Austrians at the

My Favorite Music Essay
I was raised around many types of music, and I have heard many different songs. However, there
is one music group that I have listened to off and on for a very long time. This group is Blue
October, and I have listened to them since I was six years old when my mother first introduced

There is no denying that when decent music is playing people cannot help but get in the dancing
mood. Studies show that people, even when still in the womb, react to music. This reaction just
grows and grows as a person develops... "children between 1 and 2 years of age were made to

listening to the insistent drums and guitar riffs, the babies started to move in synchronicity with the

music stimulates our sense of hearing, it is clear that music can, and inevitably does, convey
information. I consider that music is, by its very nature, has the power to express everything,

Throughout history, music has evolved and branched off into many different categories, each of
which have distinct styles and orchestrations; there is classical music that is centuries old and
today there is modern contemporary music that is often synthesized or played with electronic

One of the greatest composers of music, even though it was only slightly notated at the time, was
Guillaume de Machaut (d. 1377), "one of the undisputed pinnacle geniuses of Western music..." His
most famous piece was the four–voice Mass of Notre Dame, which maintained his reputation
through the changes in fashion (Roberge). After almost a millennium's worth of music was
composed and contributed, the style of music began to change with the next era. From 1400 to
1600 A.D., the Renaissance was a period of a rediscovery of Greek ideals for musicians to
explore possibilities of their art. It was during this time that ideas were able to better circulate,
because individualism began to increase, and the printing of music helped to preserve and distribute
musical ideas (History). Also, as opposed to the medieval period, the Renaissance began to expand
upon the type of sound that was created by adding the voices of women in choirs, as well as
expanding instrumental music. The texture of music also began to change, with homophonic and
polyphonic compositions. Sacred vocal polyphony was used rather than monophony in the form of

Music and I
Ever since I was a small child, I have loved music. The strong, steady beats, the entrancing melodies,
and the lyrics that vary between heart–warming and heart–wrenching have always had an
unexplainable affect on my life. Music seems to have the ability to change certain aspects of my
world. If I am in a foul mood, an angry girl band can make my rotten attitude even more irresistibly
awful. When I am happy, any sort of upbeat, dance–to–me kind of music enhances my joy that much
more. I love to study to classical music, daydream to classical music, even sleep to classical music.

However, whenever someone is whistling it as they walk by or I hear it on a movie (who doesn't
love Beaches?), my heart soars and a smile creeps across my face as my eyes begin to swell. The
song simply has the ability to bring back a million happy memories from my childhood within its
first few notes.
When my older sister got married, I wanted to do something special to remind her of our
childhood and to take her mind off of the wedding stress as we were getting ready the day of the
wedding. I thought back to all of the songs we loved when we were little, many of which were sung
by the infamous one–hit–wonders of the eighties. I think each generation has songs that are popular
to them and that they will never forget the lyrics to.
However, if you mentioned the artists that sang them or the names of other songs they sang, no
one would have a clue what you were saying. Still, the songs are precious to the people that grew
up with them. When my sister and I listened to the CD I made for her in the limousine on the way
to the ceremony, we were both brought right back to the days when we were growing up.
Wedding seem to provide a perfect atmosphere for the sentimental music that is sometimes
