2. Abstract
In a typical Cloud computing environment the
actual computational power cannot be
realized due to the limited bandwidth of
existing networks.A optical network is
proposed as a key to implementing increased
agility and flexibility into a cloud computing
environment by providing any-to-any
connectivity with the appropriate optical
bandwidth at the appropriate time.
3. Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is a term used to describe
both a platform and type of application.
Advanced clouds typically include other
computing resources such as storage area
networks (SANs), network equipment,
firewall and other security devices.
3 types of services:
1. IaaS
2. PaaS
3. SaaS
4. Cloud computing also describes
applications that are extended to be
accessible through the Internet.
Anyone with a suitable Internet
connection and a standard browser can
access a cloud application.
5. Cloud computing infrastructures can allow
enterprises to achieve more efficient use of
their IT hardware and software investments.
A cloud infrastructure can be a cost efficient
model for delivering information services,
reducing IT management complexity,
promoting innovation, and increasing
responsiveness through realtime workload
balancing.
6. The Cloud makes it possible to launch Web
2.0 applications quickly and to scale up
applications as much as needed when
needed.
The platform supports traditional Java™ and
Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP (LAMP) stack-
based applications as well as new
architectures such as MapReduce and the
Google File System, which provide a means
to scale applications across thousands of
servers instantly.
8. Photonic Networks
Photonic networks are high-capacity
telecommunications networks based on
optical technologies and components that
provide routing, grooming,and restoration at
the wavelength level as well as wavelength-
based services.
The Photonic network has a photonic
background and makes intensive use of
passive optical networks in the access
network.
9. Photonic network which are based on WDM
technology are not limited to transport as they also
realize node functions in the photonic regime.
Photonic networks utilize the independent
characteristics of multi-wavelength network and can
simultaneously accommodate various kinds of signals
including SDH/SONET,ATM,IP.
Another advantage of the photonic networks is their
flexibity which allows the transmission capacity and
routes to be changed according to changes in
network needs ,for example ,in case of a failure in
part of the network.
11. The efficiency of high speed processors and
faster storage devices cannot be experienced
without the high bandwidth and faster
networks.
Trusting a third party for maintaining sensitive
data needs attention.
Transmitting each character typed over
internet without any special security feature
also requires concern.
12. Application of Optical
Computing as a remedy
Photonic networks address the problem of
need for increased bandwidth and need for
faster networks.
Increase in bandwidth of current electronic
networks increases the cost per bandwidth
and makes it unaffordable.
Photonic networks helps in reducing the cost
per increase in bandwidth.
13. As we know photons are much faster than electrons
the thirst for speed in cloud computing environment is
satisfied by them.
Most people use computers for office use and
manipulation of sensitive data.
Faster encryption and decryption of data at user side
is not possible with electrical chips.
This problem is solved by implementing a special
highly efficient photonic chip at ports for faster
encryption of data
14. Conclusion
This paper focuses on finding an
efficient way to increase the agility of
cloud computing by using optical
networks.
It also touches on the fundamental
concepts of cloud computing and
optical computing.
