  3. Problem with energy bills is they arentt straight forward……. They should be, but they aren’t. Tariff, Mw per hour, rate, time of day, How do I really know what my energy consumption is …….. But worse still
  4. What if they only way I could tell this is by accepting they were right. And that the best way to understand the true cost of my energy usage is to trust the people selling it to me. What if there were only 6 people that could sell it to me and they were all reputable, house hold names that had grown from years of serving their customers best interests, that would be ok right ?
  5. So it got me thinking.
  6. What would really take away all the pain.
  7. My house. And why not. My house could tell me when it needs attention. Take care of all my energy needs, run the washing machine when its cheapest, tweet me when the bulbs blow, report back on rooms I heat and don’t use, lights I leave on, give me advice on how to work better. NOT NEST, OR HIVE, but a home that really takes care of me and my family. Independantly ….. And then just imagine, my home could become the broker for my electricy, I don’t have to swtich, - the best solution to a problem is to take it away.

  9. If you ever need encouragement talk to an ironman – especially one who loves solving problems and whos favourite phrase is “do it”

  11. Conversations led to this. Archiecture on the back on an index card – with room to spare
  12. Project inception at 5pm Agreed vision / goal - Give it everything we have Work outside standard office hours Not everyone believed from the start – but they trusted Approach to architecture (small discrete sections – agreed to work on contracts – no overall powerful decision maker) Agreed approach – person take on each “service” to do research and return with ideas and thoughts on approach for discussion – including technology around that area Self-selected Domain expert – based on fun (passion), experience (value) & idea (creativity) Process – nothing decided, come back to it once we’ve slept on it.

What skills did we need - ingrediants Hardware, soldering, electronics, SPI, Artificial~Intelligence, AngularJS, linux, virtualisation, network protocols, HTML, Javascript, Java, NodeJS, Clojure, C++, C, vagrant, chef, Real time, software, SSH, Carpentry, Robotics, general, BASH, mongodb, memory profiling, circuit debugging, Design, bootstrap, CSS PR, Marketing, Video production, copywriting, documentation, - find the tech stack that people want to use, it helps to drive engagement. Hopefully you already have them if not learn first. Hit the books We’re going to take away all of your “capability”

  16. Dan pink – what motivates people – based on Science autonomy, mastery and purpose. Autonomy – masters of our own destiny Mastery – let us become great at something we already want to do Purpose – The vision -
  17. Trust as in the 14 year old babysitter – Think of someone/ a team where you worked well Now think of one that didn’t work Economics of trust – trust = speed

Character Integrity do what you say you will – commit to something and stick with it stand for something Nice guy Volunteered, agreed to take part Intent Define your motive(s) Competence Results Your track record Capabilities Talents, attitude, skills, knowledge, style lifelong learning know where you are going

Problem with T Creates silos of knowledge Creates super heroes Re-inforces role sterotypes – I know therefore I am senior If you have roles – even perceived – it can reduce trust, creates silos and zones of responsibility Breaks true model of mentoring and support. Worst of all it re-inforces the patterns that kill creativity
  20. Patterns. T shape reinforces patterns – patterns are bad for creativity
  21. Intent countered poor depth. Capability becomes more about integrity and intent We trusted that we didn’t know. Because it freed us to be creative.
  22. What about this no leader thing how do you make decisions How to deal with differences without any heirarchy
  23. MR DOMAIN MISS CONTEXT MR NIEVE Equally important No heirarchy Makes it a bit more fun Any 3 people in any role
  24. If you’re a senior trust your juniors – let them define their own solution and learn from it Introduce process where it adds value not mitigates risk Embrace EVERY idea, and throw a couple of crazy ones out yourself.
