OL 665 Milestone Two Guidelines and Rubric
Overview: Not-for-profit organizations need inspirational
leadership to assist them in achieving their missions and
reaching their altruistic goals. In addition,
good communication practices promote positive public relations
and attract supporters.
Prompt: Analyze the leadership strategies and communication
practices of the not-for-profit organization on which you will
perform your strategic analysis.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Introduction: Write an introduction to your paper that
includes a hook and a controlling idea (thesis). The introduction
should generate interest and let
the reader know what to expect in the paper.
II. Analysis:
a. Leadership:
i. Discuss the specific board structure present in your chosen
organization, explaining the benefits of this structure.
ii. Discuss the current management strategies for recruiting,
utilizing, and retaining human capital, including to what extent
a succession
plan is in place.
iii. Evaluate the current leadership strategies and organizational
structure for strengths and weaknesses in managing boards,
volunteers,
and staff.
b. Communications:
i. Discuss the current communication strategies being used
throughout the organization, internally and externally, for
promoting the
organization's shared values.
ii. Discuss the organization's public relations strategies and
specific branding techniques.
iii. Evaluate the current communication strategies for
opportunities for advancing the goals of the organization both
internally and
externally.
III. Conclusion: Write a conclusion to your paper that
summarizes the organization’s leadership strategies and
communication practices. Tie the conclusion
back to your controlling idea (thesis).
Guidelines for Submission: Submit a 3- to 4-page Microsoft
Word document (not including the title page or references). It
should be double spaced with 12-point

Overview: Typically, a not-for-profit organization’s existence is
based on a desire to provide a public benefit. Not-for-profit
organizations exist across industries
and are present in education, healthcare, development, and
environmental agencies. Studying the organization’s mission,
history, and current position are
foundational to delving into information about its leadership
practices, communication strategies, financial position, and
ethical practices. This milestone
provides you with the basic understanding you will need to
move forward with your strategic analysis.
Prompt: Develop a profile of the not-for-profit organization on
which you will perform your strategic analysis.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Introduction: Provide the name of the not-for-profit
organization on which you have chosen to perform your
strategic analysis. Explain your interest in
this particular not-for-profit organization and your rationale for
selecting it for your final project.
II. Mission: Why does this not-for-profit organization exist?
Who does it serve? What is its formal mission statement?
III. History: Provide a history of the not-for-profit organization.
