Dealing with Coaches Who Are Compliant Instead of Committed
Awareness Development
•	 People don’t know what they don’t know. If the employee hasn’t been given 	
	 direction, resources, and is constantly being trained, you can’t rightly
	 address this issue. You need to make every athletic staff member very 		
	 aware of your expectation and inspire them to be committed.
•	 If there are compliance issues, identify the areas that need commitment, 	
	 help them find a solution, set a follow up meeting to go over progress. Use 	
	 technology to speed this up.
•	 If progress isn’t satisfactory put them on a growth plan and allocate time to 	
	 go over it with them. You can’t expect people to “just get it”!
•	 If the problem still persists you will have documentation to support their 	
	 removal. This is a very hard part of your job.
•	 If you are the one who is only being non compliant or compliant and not
	 committed, Stop It! You know what you’re doing or better yet, not doing. If 	
	 you are dissatisfied than tell your superiors, look for another job, and move 	
	 on. By no means should you ever stop being a professional. That’s weak 	
	 minded and there is no place for that when your primary concern is for the 	
	 welfare of the children you are paid to help every day. Stay focussed on 	
	 your vision as an educator and keep your emotions in check. Always take 	
	 accountability for what you are adding to a problem.
