About Me: I have been working at Woodlawn my whole teaching career starting with the 1991-1992 School year, I have taught 6th,
7th , and 8th grade with 7th being my favorite I have taught 20 full years with this year being my 21 st. In total I have spent 10 years in
college in the classroom and outside of it, I have 1 Master’s Degree, 1 Bachelors Degree. And 1 Associate’s Degree, 2000 was my last
year in college. I hold my Master’s Degree in Economics from North Carolina State University. I hold my Bachelor’s in Social
Studies Education from NCSU also. My Associates degree is from Guilford College in American history.
Class Expectations:
Always come into class prepared and ready to learn. Have all your materials that you need on your desk ready to go. Always have a
positive attitude and be ready to learn. Always have your Homework out before I ask, if you have anything that needs to be read or
signed by me you need to leave it on the Kidney table at the beginning of class I will sign it and give it back before the end of class. If
for some reason you do not have you homework bring your planner to me right away. If I have to ask it is only going to get worse.
Make up work /Homework/Grading Procedure’s
Returning upon an excused absence you need to ask for make up work immediately if you do not ask you will not get it. You are
entitled to twice the number of days absent to complete the work once you have caught up you need to turn it in ASAP.
When you do have Homework you need to complete it the day that it is assigned, unless otherwise instructed. If you do not do your
homework you will have a zero in the gradebook until you turn it in. When you turn it in there will be an automatic 10 point deduction
from your assignment times the number of days it took you to turn it in with a limit of 5 days and then it is a zero. PLEASE PUT
YOUR NAME ON YOUR PAPER, IF YOU DON’T IT WILL BE A ZERO UNTIL IDENTIFIED ONCE YOU INDENTIFY IT IS
YOURS IT IS 5 POINTS OFF TIMES THE NUMBER OF DAYS IT TOOK YOU TO INDENTIFY IT WITH THE LIMIT OF 5
DAYS.

The Grade in this class will be based on these things
45%- Tests and Quizzes
25%- Homework
10%- Classwork
20%- Projects
Units of study- this year we will be working with the Common Core Curriculum Standards in Social Studies, this year’s Social
Studies is a whole different ballgame. In The North Carolina Standard Corse of Study we had studied Africa, South America, and
Europe in Middle School. In common Core they have set aside 8 Units of study we will get into we will study each unit about 4 and a
half weeks at a time. There will be 4 major projects in my class one for each nine weeks. The topics we will be studying are The
Revolutionary War, The Civil War, World Wars I & II, The Korean and Vietnam Wars, The Great Depression, The Cold War, The
United States Government, The Economy that we are facing today,
