2. "Clearcut, Humbug
Mountain, Clatsop
County, Oregon"
(1999-2003) Robert
Adams
Robert Adams sought out to
document physical traces of
human life and it’s effects on the
environment in the “West”. He
used various landscapes that
had been altered or destroyed
from it’s natural beauty. Robert
Adams wanted to show people
the bad that was being done in
hopes of them wanting to make
a change.

At first I was a little saddened by
Robert Adam’s pictures. Seeing
the images of the half empty
forest had me thinking about the
tree’s around Me. I actually
envisioned what the tree’s would
look like standing there in the
empty area. I created this piece
as a reflection to show my idea
of what the “East” looks like. I
wanted to bring awareness of
the beauty that tree’s bring to
our environment.
4. I,I,I,I, Etc….(2002)
Trenton Doyle
Hancock
Trenton Doyle Hancock creates pieces of art
that come together to tell a story. Each piece
created tells just a portion of the story of the
“Mounds” in a whole. The “Mounds” are
mythical creators that are half human and
half plant mutants. Through the “Mounds”
Trenton conveys messages pertaining to birth,
life, death and after death. Most often times
he will use what he considers to be garbage
or reused material from a previous piece.
5. “Me, Me, Me,
Ashley…. “

I found myself in awe when I saw Trenton
Doyle Hancock’s “I, I, I, Etc…”. The colors
automatically drew me in but it was the
eye balls that held my attention. Instead
of flowers Trenton used eyes that sprouted
from a mound surrounded by beautiful
flowers. I thought the idea of a half
human and half mutant plant was very
interesting. So interesting that I wanted to
create my own but more humanized
than mutant. I used scraps from a project
I completed at work and just let my
creativity flow. I also used four pictures of
myself, each one contained a different
me in which I saw as the “mutation” of
this piece. The title of the piece is “I,I,I,
Etc….” and I instantly thought to myself
“Me, Me, Me, Me” so that creation of my
title.

inches
Mary Heilmann consist of
abstract paintings and ceramic
pieces. These pieces are
formed from her own
imagination with the world’s
contribution or inspiration. This
piece depicts a time when
Mary Heilman stated that she
would paint straight up and
down, and then straight
sideways covering the other
lines.
7. “Tic-Tac-Toe”

After viewing multiple pieces, I
found myself going back to this
one in particular. Mary
Heilmann’s piece “Kachina”
took me back to my childhood
for some reason and all I could
see was tic-tac-toe. So I
recreated three games by
painting them. I used multiple
symbols versus the typical X and
O. I decided to make it black
and white to give the piece a
little more exaggeration.
8. THE END
Thank You, I hope you enjoyed the pieces I choose
and the ones I created.
Sincerely,
Ashley Scott
