Dragons Vs Dungeons
Zen, when one thinks of the ideas behind it, may not be the first word used to describe the game Dungeons and Dragons, due to the fact that quite the
opposite happens within the game in fights with other players, bosses and creatures. Though with a look into some of the philosophical processes that
can be applied to the game similar to the ones that the narrator applies to his motorcycle maintenance this word choice can be understood. With the use
of the classic and romantic mode of thinking, classification of components, and the explanation of a truth trap within the game; the players and
characters within the game get further explained as to why this game of destruction can be considered a philosophical Zen. Dungeons and Dragons has

A truth trap can explain this phenomenon in the game. "Truth traps are concerned with the data that are apprehended and are within the boxcars
of the train" (Prisig (ZMM), 410). The narrator speaks of truth traps and the ability to understand data using a scientific method, though the issue
of yes no questions are brought up with a third option of mu which states neither yes or no. Dungeons and Dragons requires the players to think
critically about decisions being made and while this thinking is going on questions are often asked to the other players and often to the Dungeon
Master. Though in most instances the Dungeon Master does not give simple yes or no replies to these questions it seems as if he or she sticks
with this mu to allow the group of players to figure it out for themselves. This is often due to the fact that the Dungeon Master wants to see the
way the players handle a situation for possible character development or to make it more realistic as there is no person you can ask in the real
world to solve all of ones issues or to tell them what to do next, where to go to, etc. this would make the Dungeon Masters actions similar to those
explained by the narrator as Buddha's actions, since if the Dungeon Master were to answer your question it could be incorrect due to the fact the
world within Dungeons and Dragons is what the players wish to make it not a straight forward way where the players have to do very specific things
in order to move on in a

Fantasy In C. S. Lewis The Magician's Nephew
Fantasy is a genre that uses supernatural situations as a main plot setting. Fantasy is a measure by which responders can be introduced to important
notions in texts. C.S. Lewis' novel, The Magician's Nephew explores the creation of Narnia. Lewis explores friendship through the characters of Polly
and Digory. The notion of Good vs. Evil and magic are also used throughout the novel and helps us understand the need for fantasy in our own lives.
The notion of magic is explored throughout the novel. This is shown early in the book when Polly touches the magic rings and vanishes out of Uncle
Andrew's study " without a flash or a noise of any sort, there was no Polly." This happens at the complication of the novel, this abnormal incident

Lewis explores this through the characters of Polly and Digory. An example of their friendship is part of the resolution of the story when Lewis
stated that " Polly and Digory were always great friends after that." The final narration explores the everlasting between the two protagonists in the
story. Friendship is also shown when Aslan has just finished the creation of when he tells the creatures " I give you Narnia, I give you the stars
and I give you myself. This is the characterisation of Aslan. The author uses Aslan's words to further the allegory of the creation of the world, God's
gift to us in friendship. Also in the resolution friendship is explored when time is passing and Polly and Digory are getting older saying " If ever
they were sad, They thought of that golden goodness and all was well" Alliteration is used in this statement. The words "golden goodness" is
associated with the final memory Polly and Digory had shared with Aslan showing readers what a true friendship they shared with each other and

The Consequences Of Video Games
In the modern gaming industry with main stream Role Playing Games (RPGs), the battle between the two sub genres (Western RPGs and Japanese
RPGs) have taken over the mass media discussions on which is "better" than the other. Despite this, the nominated RPGs in 2017 of Best Role–Playing
Game of the year has shown that split in the society with great games such as Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Persona 5. However, in the past Western
RPGs such as Mass Effect (2008) and Dragon Age: Origins (2009) have both won this award, dominating in the market through pandering towards the
gaming community with precise implementations and uses that draw towards the market better than Japanese RPGs.
The way video games are nominated for the awards is they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This to show how Western RPGs pick up in any slack Japanese RPGs don't with certaingame mechanics that people rely on to have that challenge and
immersion in the game.
Despite this, there is the argument about the award shows that are exclusively for either Western or Japanese video games, and whether The Game
Awards is valid in being used since Western RPGs are dominating in the community and hence the market. In fact, The Game Awards is a show that
uses an international jury and as stated before, uses companies such as Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Activision on the
advisory board in the first place. Both Nintendo and Sony Interactive Entertainment are operated in Japan and thus giving both Western RPGs and
Japanese RPGs a chance compared to a show that there isn't a bias towards a side in this controversy.
In the same fashion of immersion, the use of expression through character customization and the experience throughout the game greatly coincides
with Western RPGs rather than Japanese RPGs. This is due to the fact that in Japanese RPGs the consumer is told a story rather than being able to
be a part of the story, like in Western RPGs. As discussed in an article called "The Rise of Western RPGs" by Stace Harman (2014), in the 1980s to
early 1990s, Western RPGs developed a "complex alignments system" to help adapt the player

Their marriage will signify a peace treaty between the nation of Lucis, where Noctis resides, and the empire Niflheim. Niflheim and Lucis, currently
in the midst of a war over a powerful, magical crystal, choose to make ends meet on more proper terms, hence the arranged marriage. Keeping
spoilers to a minimum, the empire of Niflheim end up betraying the kingdom of Lucis, and assassinating the king, Noctis' father. Noctis, en route to
Altissia, hears of this, and is at a loss of words. The game starts with Noctis and his accompanied allies in search of a purpose because of the sudden
change of events. Initially, their relationships with one another are kind of uneasy, but they develop profoundly throughout the trials and tribulations
that they face together. Prompto Argentum, originally a source of comic relief, matures after each battle the group faces, and develops a sense of honor
from protecting Noctis. Ignis, acting as an adult–like figure for Noctis, views Noctis as a kid in need of constant assistance at the beginning of the
story. Eventually, he respects him and even looks up to him in some ways. Gladiolus, Noctis' bodyguard, changes drastically; he spends most of the
story viewing the Prince as spoiled, but soon comes to befriend him and put his life on the line for him without question. Together, the companions

Rhetorical Analysis
As the quarter progressed, these ten weeks had been a great and excessive adventure for me. As a writer, I learned a lot of new skills and techniques
which helped me a lot to improve my writing. I am writing this cover letter to you to demonstrate how much I have improved throughout the quarter
as a writer in 39B class. In this course, I feel like I have made an enormous improvement in writing different genre and rhetorical analysis related with
the high fantasy. The method, I learned in this class is how to relate the text and secondary sources with the high fantasy which has been one of the
most beneficial sources for me to improve my writing, not only that, but also my rhetorical, creative skills, and critical thinking about high fantasy....

For this assignment, I had improved a lot from draft one to final draft. Therefore, I decided to show my first draft because I believe it will be easier
to see the improvement throughout the process till the final draft. In this assignment, one of my strongest points was finding secondary sources
which have become very helpful for me. In this essay, I spend little extra time connecting all the secondary sources to my argument. Even some of
the sources were easy to find on a topic about war related to A Game of Thrones. The main challenges I have experienced in this essay was looking
for a technique that Martin's used to show how it is related to the real world. Another challenge I experienced was being too general, and not
specific enough. Not being specific turned my essay to be imprecise and it made my essay to go off topic; in addition, it made my thesis vague and
unclear to the reader. To make my essay clearer, I tried to add some evidence from the secondary sources to support my argument with some
significant information on the war. For this assignment, the revision was simpler because the secondary sources I found were very useful to me. From
this assignment, I was able to learn a lot of new skills such as relating the sources to the text and writing an appropriate research paper with the

Comparing The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
Four siblings: Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund Pevensie are all sent to a faraway house to be safe from the conflicts of World War II. They each step
through a wardrobe they discovered and out into the new world of Narnia–a land tyrannized and ruled by the vicious White Witch. Right before almost
all hope is lost, the Great Lion– Aslan–returns, bringing with him a new found sense of hope and change. But with great victory, comes great sacrifice.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobebelongs to the fantasy genre. This is shown through the use of supernatural characters, the setting of a different
world, and the character's struggle against evil and heroism.
A unique characteristic of the fantasy genre is the fact that the story takes place in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times, the heroes are ordinary people that do not know of their power or importance until they are called upon to perform heroic feats. In
support of this, an ancient prophecy is revealed to the Pevensies, ""Down Cair Paravel there are four thrones and it's a saying in Narnia time out of
mind that when two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve sit in those four thrones, then it will be the end not only of the White Witch's reign,
but of her life."" (Lewis 89). The four brothers and sisters enter Narnia unknowing of the prophecy made about them a long time ago. The
Pevensies do not know of their importance until they enter Narnia. If not for accidentally discovering the wardrobe and it's secrets, the children
would not have fulfilled their prophecy. In addition to the importance of heroes, usually the major plot of the storyline is trying to resolve the
conflicts of good versus evil. As a result of this constant struggle a battle occurs, for example, ""The battle was all over a few minutes after their
arrival. Most of the enemy had been killed in the first charge of Aslan and his companions, and when those who were still living saw that the witch
was dead they either gave themselves up or took to flight."" (Lewis 195). This final battle between good and evil was the climax in the story, as it
determined who would

The Impact of Computers
Computers are commonly used items in many areas. It is an important thing to people, especially the people who run organizations, industry, etc. . .
Almost anything you know is run or made by computers. Cars and jets were designed on computers, traffic signals are run by computers, most
medical equipment use computers and space exploration was started with computers. Most of the jobs today require the use of computers. These
'mechanical brains ' made a huge impact on our society. It would be hard if we didn 't have the computer around.
Computers changed the world a lot. It helped man step forward into the future. Thanks to computers, space exploraation came true, new designs of

Computers help students in any way they need, researching, typing, searching, etc. . . Teachers use computers as well. They use computers to keep
track of grades, type out instruction for their students, and to let students use the computer for school purposes.
An important field computers impacted on is the medical field. The computers helped the hospitals out very much. In pharmacies, the pharmacists
use computers to keep a record of what medication to give to a patient and the amount they need. Most computers in the hospital are used to keep
data of patience and their status. Computers also keep track of equipment placement and status as well. Scientists need the help of computers to find
cures for diseases that need cures like cancer and STDs. Without the computers help, cures for a lot of diseases woudn 't have been found. Computer
helped the medical area a lot and we are greatful for that since they keep track of our health. Other areas the computer impacted on is space exploration
and designs of transportation.
Computers helped the world a lot and helped us take a large step into the future. Businesses and entertainment uses them to make profits, Education uses
them to help educate students better, the Medical field uses computers in amny different ways, and other areas. Without the computers help, none of
this would be possible. The world would be a dull and primitave place. No cures for diseases, ne good entertainment, less

Stars twinkled in the black bodice overhead and the moon was nowhere in sight, yet, no one questioned why. All lay dead in the sky while below on
land, badlam occurred. It was the 18th Era on Gaia, in the small mountain town of Nibelheim. Squall Leonhart was clutching Cloud's hand, running
towards Mt. Nibel, away from the denizens of his hometown. His feet could barely keep up with the speed of the blonde, who was sprinting at an
inhuman pace. The ascent of the mountain was too much to handle for the mere men chasing them, while Cloud had swept Squall up and ran with the

entrance, preventing anyone from coming in. He turned back to Squall, non–existent heart thawing at the sight of his scared, anxious love. Cloud
walked over, grabbing the man's face in his gloved hands and kissing him with all the passion he had. "Are you okay, my love?" Cloud asked,
bringing Squall in close to him. "I am now," he whispered back, laying a kiss on Cloud's chest. "What will we do? I can't go back, and when they
get up here, there's no stopping them at all." "I can't ask for protection from us. While it's not forbidden for a demon to love a human, it's looked

can stay with you." "We'll have to go to my home, Squall. We'll have to go to the Underworld. What you call, Hell." "Hell is better than
Nibelheim," Squall murmured, hugging Cloud tighter and closing his eyes. "How do we get there?" "My dear, open your eyes, we're already there."
Confused, Squall opened his eyes expecting to still be in the cave, but instead saw he was inside of a dimly–lit castle.

The Writing Of The Barbarian
The barbarian snarled, a war cry bursting from his lips as he ambled toward me. His leather boots kicked dust up from the arena floor as he moved
in a slow circle, trying to get his back to the sun and diminish my line of sight. It was a good trick, but there was just one problem with that. I knew
what he was trying to do.
Even if I could keep him from blinding me, that hulking axe of his would do some major damage. If he hit me with that, no amount of blocking
would keep my head from getting caved in like a casaba melon. Unfortunately, I was only good up close. I'd have to engage him sooner or later, and
since his arms were longer than mine, I'd have to be quick. Even a cursory blow from him would mean trouble since the wardings on his gauntlets let
me know he had ogre strength.
That said, I'd done this dance a million times before. The key was to not get frazzled. No, I had to stay calm. If I was calm, I could win. At least in
theory. Unfortunately, it was always easier to tell yourself to be calm than to actually calm down. On the other hand, it was always a lot easier to piss
the other guy off.
"Have you heard the one about your mother?" I asked, a grin melting across my face as I stepped back, trying to put space between me and his big
axe. The muscles in his legs twitched as I spoke, letting me know he was about to attack. "You probably have, it's huge."
Another snarl tore from his throat as he leapt toward me, huge twin bladed axe cleaving through the air in a

Analysis Of The Film Bears Discover Fire
The film Bears Discover Fire written by Terry Bisson is a film that was produced by college students. This film covers many different controversial
topics. The book allows for many different perceptions of these topics to be seen.. Although the title of the film has a scientific feeling, it is more of a
fantasy than a science fiction film. In the film "Bears Discover fire" one may interpret the movie as more of a fantasy film, with that being said the
elements of a fantasy story base line can be perceived in a much bigger picture. In the film "Bears Discover Fire" one may preserve the film as fansty.
In the film, there are parts of the story line that truly cannot happen during this time on earth. For example, when the bears are standing upright. In this
scene one may think to themselves that this is something that can/ will not happen. Today's bears are not capable of standing upright and walking.
Another example of a fantasy can be seen when the bears are walking around with fire. This scene shows signs of a fantasy because, a normal bear
would not be capable of walking around with fire in their paws and setting up campfires. A final example of a fantasy in the film can be seen when,
the grandma, Junior and Bobby are having a campfire with the bears in the woods. This is a scene that one might fantasize over. That is because it is
not normal for humans to be close to a live bear and simple have a campfire with them. At this point a normal bear would have been frightened

Heroism, Magic and Retribution in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit
A fantasy is an imaginary world where all things imaginable can be brought to life. J.R.R Tolkien portrayed fantasy through his use of skilled
craftsmanship and a vivid imagination, which was presented in each piece of literature he wrote. In Tolkien's two stories The Hobbit and The Lord of the
Rings we see the theme of fantasy brought to life through three essential elements, heroism, magic and retribution. Heroism is shown through the
character's courage and bravery in situations where conflict arises and this enables them to be seen in a new light. Magic is a form of extraordinary
power seemingly through a supernatural force; it is used in a combination of combat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a child this character encountered Smaug for the first time while fleeing the ruination of their city; now even though Bard was overcome with
the fear that every mortal has when they are near one of these tremendous beasts, he was determined to stand his ground due to the love he had for
their small town. He was able to accomplish this impossible task because a small thrush perched on his shoulder and told him of the one weak spot of
the dragon, the hollow of its left breast. Bard then inflicted death upon the terrible Smaug with his last arrow and was nearly killed himself by the
tremendous weight of the beast in the process, but he jumped out of the way and into the water just in the nick of time. "With a shriek that deafened
man, felled trees and split stone, Smaug shot spouting into the air, turned over and crashed down from high in ruin." (229)
A character that displays the traits of heroism is one who overcomes the odds through the use of unique and valuable qualities; this remains just as
true in The Lord of the Rings as it does in The Hobbit. One truly heroic act occurred when Gandalf the Great, determined to defend the fellowship took
on a Balrog, this huge, bat–like source of evil stood on the bridge to freedom and did battle with the poor mage. Gandalf, stricken with fear caused the
bridge to collapse and with it fell the Balrog. However, with one last effort

characters are presented. Females in video gaming are sexualized across the gaming media and are used as a key factor of a selling success in the
market. Women are objectified as objects, rewards and as sexual entertainment. That is to say that one obvious point is men are more likely to play
video game more than women. Since men play more, creators showcase women as sexual objects give entertainment for them. Its offending for a
female to play and then to see how other female characters in the games are. The stereotype is that video games are established for men and it is
unusual for a woman to play. It is more common and a norm for a guy to play but for a girl who is less likely to. When it comes to costumes in
characters, women are dressed up in more revealing clothing while men are dressed as more ordinary or masculine. Females would show more skin

Video Game Comparison Essay
As a child, one never thinks twice about a possible hidden meaning when playing a video game. Playing a video game was simply that, just playing.
We are controlling a device to make actions for the character displayed on a screen. But what if we were not only playing a senseless game, but in fact,
doing something more. At that point, we begin to question whether the video game we have grown to love was doing something more than entertain us
for the time being. We were not only leveling up to fight the main boss or bad guy in the game, but possibly strengthening ourselves to fight a figure
that symbolizes an actual person or event in a different context. Plenty of games feature hidden meanings and signs that many glance over without

this important element in itself. It is the story. Is the story intriguing? Engaging? Interesting? These elements are important in a movie. Today I am
going to give my opinions on Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV beginning with summary of the story, the things that I liked, and the things that this
movie lacked. The story is told from the perspective of Nyx Ulric, while the story itself is rather simple, an advanced nation of technology called the

What this movie lacks is the simplicity, the story tried to tell too many thing in the movie resulting in confusion to the common people who watched
the movie without any prior knowledge to the world of Final Fantasy XV. The screen time for the supporting character feels so small that we can't
feel connection to the characters that died. The motivation weren't well written either because we can feel the lack of reason to why this character
does what he does. For the conclusion, Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV, is a visually stunning CG movie with tons of effect and superhuman ability
concept that is a very interesting style of movie. But it severely lacks in the coherent story, the motivation, and fail to create a connection to the
characters because of their lack of screen time, and motivation, overall this is a great

Force, Nameless Character
Use The Force, Nameless Character Originally released exclusively for the PC in 2011 as the simply titled Q.U.B.E., Q.U.B.E: Director's Cut is the
official re–release of the game, this time coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Wii U, and even iOS. The main difference between
the original and this "remastered" version is that this time Q.U.B.E. has a plot, and though I think that it is utterly uncalled for, I still got to give the
developers credit for some good plot twists and what I suppose is a somewhat good/ok story. In Q.U.B.E., you can force push any wall that bugs

yellow stairs to blue bouncing cubes, going through yellow elevators–like parallelepipeds – which really are just a group of cubes – Q.U.B.E. has them
all, and you simply need these special gloves to control and manipulate every single one of them. Most levels simply require you jumping from
one cube to another in the right order, but from time to time, the game will want to reward you for your hard work by providing the most painful
puzzles related to balls I've seen to date, and that's saying a lot. The puzzles involve you changing a learning terrain where a green sphere will fall
in order for her to always go through little doors, causing the doors and walls to open. It can get really tricky because it involves you turning the
walls, which block the ball and may even be entirely blacked out, making everything invisible to the player. I'm not complaining too much, however,
because I found Q.U.B.E. to be simple and easy to master. Having these little challenges from time to time is in no way

What Are The Four Generic Conventions
In a day in age where we live in a vast multimedia culture, content is supplied to us through distinct and diverse outlets including video, animation,
audio, and text. Within these outlets comes more a defined set of media. Text is anything you can read which includes books, magazines, newspapers,
and advertisements. Audio on the other hand is anything you can listen to which includes podcasts, music, and radio. Once you get down to these
specific levels, a higher classification level is required in order to define, describe, and organize types of compositions. This requires genre which is a
subcategory of media or entertainment that is established and defined by certain heterogeneous characteristics.

gods that societies put their faith in. These include the Faith of the Seven which is the dominant religion in the seven kingdoms, the drowned god, the

Examples Of Reality In A Streetcar Named Desire
When Blanche and Stanley began to quarrel, various false shadows began to appear on the wall behind her. Odd noises and jungle cries also occurred
as Blanche began to convert into madness. All of these effects combined to affect Blanche's final breakdown and departure from reality in the face of
Stanley's physical threat. When she lost her sanity in her final struggle against Stanley, Blanche went back entirely into her own world. Whereas she
originally coloured her perception of reality according to her wishes, at this point in the play she ignored reality altogether.

with Stanley Kowalski and other elements of the real world, demonstrating at fantasy and reality can never coexist. Stanley's ever–flowing harsh

Movie Review : Video Games
If you 're interested, you can first read Part 1 covering the 1990s or Part 2 about 2000 to 2004.
In the first half of the decade, things were looking up for video game movies, as there were huge hits like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil.
However, from 2005 to 2009 game adaptations were mostly underwhelming, with none making over $100 million at the box office. They performed
especially poorly with critics as all of them scored below 35% on Rotten Tomatoes and five of them got below 10%, which is an awful score.
On that note, we start with one of the worst movies I 've ever seen, Alone in the Dark, based on the survival horror series from Infogrames. The
franchise began in 1992 on the PC and has somewhat died out recently, as it has only seen two entries since 2002.
The film adaptation was directed by infamous German filmmaker Uwe Boll, who is notorious for making exceptionally awful movies, many of them
inspired by video games. He had already made the terrible game adaption House of the Dead in 2003, and he 'll come up in this article four more times.
Alone in the Dark has an astonishingly bad Rotten Tomatoes score of 1% and it currently has an IMDB user rating of 2.3, making it the 43rd lowest
rated movie on the site.
Pretty much everything about the film is embarrassingly bad, starting with the acting from B–list stars like Christian Slater, Tara Reid, and Stephen
Dorff.
There 's also some very fake–looking CGI used to portray the monsters.

American Beauty Term Paper
Term Paper: American Beauty
What are the costs of living in a success–driven, consumer–oriented, image–obsessed society? This challenge to contemporary America's suburban
culture finds a voice in Sam Mendes' 1999 movie American Beauty. The film's complex subtlety underscores its implication that subtlety itself is a
casualty in our society. American Beauty's tagline exhorts viewers to "look closer," but thefilm expresses ambivalence concerning what is revealed by
closer inspection. On one hand, protagonist Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) and his young neighbor Ricky Fitts (Wes Bentley) speak of the
unappreciated beauty surrounding us; however, Lester also begins to question the values of a world that seems perfect but is actually a ... Show more

Mendes and cinematographer Conrad Hall substitute film of a lower resolution to add realism to shots supposedly filmed with Ricky's video camera.
Black and white footage in the closing montage sequence differentiates Lester's memories of his life and family from the story time of the flashback
that makes up the rest of the movie. However, the most important feature of American Beauty's camerawork is the use of the technique to reinforce the
message of the movie's tagline, which tells viewers to "look closer." Though zoom–out shots occasionally appear – most notably in the closing
helicopter shot – they are far outnumbered by zooms that bring the audience closer to the subject. This preponderance not only contributes to the film's
theme but also emphasizes zoom–outs, particularly in the final shot of the film. Ricky makes abundant use of the zoom feature on his camera, and
because his subject is often Jane, close ups on her are common. One particularly interesting example appears in the scene of Angela spending the night
with Jane in the movie's first section. The girls notice that Ricky has spelled out "Jane" in the yard in burning letters. Surmising that Ricky is filming
them, Jane retreats flustered while Angela, ever the exhibitionist, dances at the window. Rather than focusing on Angela, the crass, unsubtle beauty,
Ricky zooms past her to settle on Jane's face reflected in a mirror. From her faint smile – an

Summary : ' The Night Of Don Corneo '
Tifa and Aerith hadn 't thought they 'd seen the last of Don Corneo. Oh the brawler had hoped that she might not see the lecherous eyes gleam in
that face ever again after the first time, and again after the second, but as soon as they 'd realized they were going to be sneaking into the place
again she knew it was a possibility that she might end up coming face to face with him once more. She just hadn 't expected to be doing so like this.
They were alone in the room, and any one of them could take the disgusting man in front of them with ease, but even as they directed varying degrees
of fury at the man with their eyes while he swaggered back and forth on the bed not even Tifa –whose gaze blazed hottest of all– made a move to do it.

Both Aerith and Tifa had lived in the slums for a time, but Tifa had lived in one of the 'better ' parts while Aerith had lived far worse off. Tifa had
heard of the Honey Bee Inn and the occasional rumor about the sorts of girls that ended up there, but Aerith had heard of Don Corneo, heard stories
of what the place did to women. Unlike the drunks that talked in that bar, Aerith had known some of the women who 'd gone in, and when she 'd seen
them again (if that moment ever came to pass, some she 'd simply never seen) they 'd been unrecognizable. Not just make–up or outfits but entire

that worked in his debauched palace. She 'd stayed as far away as she could for as long as she could, and when she had finally gone close, it had
only been with Cloud at her side, strong and ready to protect her, and while Tifa was strong, she could see the helpless anger in her friend 's eyes, and

Final Fantasy XII : The Zodcraft And Gaming EX
When Final Fantasy XII released for PlayStation 2 in early 2006, the game sought to introduce a new style of play and to revolutionize the
long–running franchise. To achieve this extraordinary task, Square Enix had to break the conventions of Final Fantasy – like by introducing a
real–time combat system, and bet on an original and risky concept. In the end, the gamble paid off and Final Fantasy XII was a success; however, the
title quickly became a divisive topic of conversation amidst the gaming community.

The core of Final Fantasy XII remains the same, but refinements make The Zodiac Age a more enjoyable journey when compared to the original
release. The first thing people will notice are the improved visuals. Character models have been improved, as well as towns and outdoor environments.
Though some of the texture work looks flat, the visual upgrade is quite impressive.
The second thing people will notice is the revamped soundtrack. Final Fantasy has a longstanding tradition of producing masterful soundtracks, and the
music for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is among the best the series has to offer.
Arguably, the most substantial improvement is found in the newly refined and streamlined approach given the game's job system. The License
Board of Final Fantasy XII was clumsy and a source of frustration, but it has been improved in The Zodiac Age. Final Fantasy XII provided all six
characters with identical License Board, but that has been changed for the better. The License Board now differs for each job; thus allowing the
player to select skills and other upgrades with ease. This may sound like a minor alteration, but simplifying the job system permits the player to make
changes more quickly and not become bogged down by a convoluted system.
A welcome addition presented in the game is the option to increase the game's speed. If you are familiar with the

Humor In The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride captures the element of humor and witty comedy through effective characterization to bring out the true version of the fantasy
involving the classic love stories in medieval kingdom setting. Firstly, from the onset, the film opens with hilarious comments from the grandson as
the grandfather prepares to read the story. The grandson appears less enthusiastic to hear the narration, and seeks to know what exactly the story will
unfold by remarking that if the fairytale will have scenes involving a lot of kissing. Falk in preemptive version alludes to the fact that obviously the
story has eminent kissing and bounty of 'screaming Eels' (Haase, 2007). This claim sets the tone for a true comedy delivered in quasi–heroic epic
fantasy version where the episodes transcend viewers' emotional expectations in engaging humor scenes despite the enthralling swordfights and

Growth is inevitable and the most anticipated quest of man. It is a never–ending quest to evolve, fuelled by the constant hope for survival. Once natural
growth halts, man's focus shifts to the growth within. The coming of age, associates itself with this transformation from child to man, the step of letting
go of childish ways and moving on to more mature things. The need for such a dramatic transformation is questioned by Miguel de Cervantes and Lewis

used by Cervantes to introduce the reader to the issue of perspective. In this world there are two paradigms which are followed: one is to see the
world through the fantastical and idealistic madness of Quixote, and the other is to view it through the realism adopted by the other characters of the
text. Quixote's madness creates a world where everything is taken at face value, not allowing the idea of deception to exist. When the issue of
deception arises, he formulates alternate explanations which are in keeping with his perspective, stating that "...everything that happens in this place is
brought about by enchantment." The alternate view which is held by most of the other players is that, "anyone could see when he said that those

Cervantes uses to establish his alienation from the sanity of the constructed world. Contrastingly, In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Alice is the

Theme Of Stanley In A Streetcar Named Desire
In 'A Streetcar Named Desire', the characters of Blanche and Stanley are presented as opposing characters in the book, and hence a lot of conflict
and friction occurs between them. The character of Blanche is an older character, from a rather wealthy background and lives in a fantasy world in
which she is still young and hasn't faced the truth. The character of Stanley, however, is a more realistic and primitive character and can be viewed as
Blanche's opposite.

M. Butterfly : Gender Roles And Power Essay
The play M Butterfly highlights gender roles and power in a subtler way than in the film, M. Butterfly. The movie changes the timeline and thus the
role of "Butterfly" has more depth because we see more of her interacting with Gallimard. Gallimard and Song undergo a role reversal navigating
through the realities and fantasies of each other that are never part of the same one. Gallimard assumes the cultural stereotypes of this inferior culture
and expects Song to fulfill this role while still also being devoted to him. The last scene of this play and movie changed the overall feeling of the two
main characters and their other identities. The film and play address the intentions behind Song's mission differently, in the book Song seems more
calculating and comes across as teasing Gallimard and less desperate than in the film. The confrontation between Song and Gallimard adds to the final
breakdown of reality versus fantasy.
Towards the end of play, Gallimard stands before the court and sees Song for the first time as a man. Song gives unheard testimony while Gallimard
talks to the audience as he observes the man that was once his "butterfly." Gallimard no longer sees the woman he fell in love with in the testimony
box. The glass has shattered on this fantasy he had of her. "You're only in my mind! All this is in my mind! I order you! To stop!" (Hwang 87)

similar for one young girl. Set in Spain 1944 during a time when people are forced to choose between their beliefs and their survival, Ofelia (Ivana

del Toro wanted to exemplify. Ending a film with a child dying is disturbing however; del Toro chooses to make her death about redemption since

Heidegger emphasized that you can only project on where you stand. We can't just get up and get started on something new immediately if we

Another topic that caught my attention was of bad faith. It was made clear today that this concept is basically restricting one's choices due to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Video Game Therapy
Video Game Therapy
People choose many ways to learn how to deal with life. Life can be either difficult at times or easy. The same idea can be applied to video games.
Playing online games taught me patience, how to interact with other people around the world and how to manage my stress.
Two factors in online games that can determine my interest are drop rates and game difficulty. A drop rate is the probability or ratio that determines
how much more or how much less an item will become available from an enemy in a game. The drop rate for some items can be miniscule. When I
played Final Fantasy IX ten years ago, I had to kill a monster called a leech for an item that had a low drop rate. Because of the low drop rate, it took

Sometimes I just want to sit down and tune out everything around me, turn down the sound effects, and listen to the music in the game. It calms
me, and I forget about my problems for a while. It is a stress reliever, and I also get an adrenaline rush from challenging fights. When an enemy is
tough and causes widespread area damage, every minute step or evasive direction I choose to make could be fatal. Some people quit, I choose to
persevere until I win. The feeling when I accomplish something so difficult makes the task worth it. Because I am stationed overseas, I do not get to
spend time with my family back in the states, and it causes stress. Online games are a great way to still keep in touch with them. Recently I started
playing with my brother, although our time differences make it difficult. I also bond with my wife by playing video games. Socializing with others is
enjoyable, but finding something that I can share with my significant other helps us manage relationship stress. I try to update her equipment in order
for her to fully enjoy all that the game has to offer, and that in itself makes me happy.
In conclusion, playing online games over the years has taught me how to persevere through tough times. Even though I live in another country, I will
not let language barriers keep me from enjoying my time here. Life is annoying, and I am glad I found something that I can share with my significant

The last thing you'd think of is a computer program for a video game. But why not? Don't video games incorporate both artwork and music? Each
one is considered art, but many people consider the result, when put together, to be a waste of time. Through personal experience, I would have to

For example, most military games are based solely on some war or other, such as the games Call of Duty or Medal of Honor. Neither game is very
original, as they really have no storyline other than to run around shooting the enemies. Originality is a prime requisite of a game being considered
art. Other games lacking in uniqueness are games based on movies or books. Most famous in this category are the Star Wars games and Lord of the
Rings series. Both may be very fun to play, but being fun to play does not make them art. Art is original, fresh, never–before–thought–of material. Star
Wars and Lord of the Rings both have engaging storylines, but said storylines had already been established years before any game was produced.
Again, to be art, a video game must have an original storyline, not a preconceived one. As a rule, few games meet the originality criterion, but there

the dawning of the role–playing genre in video games. As a role–playing game, it allowed the gamer to be in the decision–making role, not just a

can at times deceive the reader by delivering functions it is not meant to deliver. Ezberk argues through other works by establishing that the concept
of realism is not valid in fantasy literature as it becomes too vague. Instead fantasy literature takes the reader away from a world they know and into a
world where it is heart desire to be. The concept of subversive literature is that it gives a reader encouragement to think creatively while reading and to

They envision themselves as the characters who can cross boundaries where in reality they would be forbidden to do so. (Mori 29) Most individuals
who are bound by societies norms and rules look to literature, as this helps them cope with their inner desire of trying to be someone other then who
they are. "They express their rejection of female compliance and self–sacrifice by fantasizing themselves as lawbreakers, sexual aggressors or sadists,
and thereby transform their self–image" (Mori 37) As the literature progresses the reader finds themselves engrossed into a novel where the character

Themes Of Avatar
In the 21st century, movies present a platform for ideas and themes to be conveyed through a screen. Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and
death are all only a few of the most common themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. According to Annalee Newitz in her essay
"When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar?", a recurring theme she's noticed is the theme of white guilt. In her essay, Newitz depicts
the movie Avatar as nothing more than a colorful rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. This is where the main white protagonist
leaves the oppressive (white) side to join the oppressed native side upon seeing the error of his ways. Some Americans, including Newitz, believe that

Furthermore, when Jake Sully became their "leader" so to speak, he had already submitted himself to the Na'vi life and made sure to prove his
strength as a Na'vi, not as a white man. His intention at that point of the movie was not even to take over as the tribe leader, but rather just to lead his
new family to fight for their land. Another "white fantasy" observation Newitz makes in her essay is that the white protagonist always becomes the
savior. This is hardly the truth in the Avatar's case. Throughout thefilm, Jake is rescued by Neytiri and the Na'vi numerous times. Even after the final
battle is over, it is Neytiri who saves his life when he begins to suffocate in his human form. Also, rather than Jake "saving the day" during the final
battle, the film focuses on the fact that Jake is unable to combat the opposing side single–handedly, and can only succeed with the aid of his Na'vi
brethren. In other words, rather than the white man saving the day, it was the teamwork of his native friends that made the win possible. Admittedly,
the start of the movie illustrates the concept of one species (the humans) infiltrating another's (The Navi's) homeland. This was purposeful, as the
producer–James Cameron–wanted to represent the way Europeans invaded Native American lands many years ago. However, this historical correlation
was not created based on racial matters, but rather to show the negative effects of imperialism. James Cameron told The

The Finger Turner
BODY PARAGRAPH ONE; horror Turners short narrative 'Fingers', explores the intuition of fantasy and the mysterious actions of the protagonist
Lonsdale Prince. In order to establish a sense of horror, Turner demonstrates the use of essential and vivid imagery hence persisting to continue tonal
adjustments throughout. Turner has this possible ability to be able to connect a sense of creativity and mystery to his reality. Turner utilizes a range of
language features when outlining the central object to the story 'A severed human finger' (pg 3). The finger is the innermost focus of the tale. This
connection is what creates a true horror setting and it is evident when Turner states.. 'clearly mummified the skin...dry ... but it was nonetheless perfect'

Dragons Vs Dungeons

  • 1. Dragons Vs Dungeons Zen, when one thinks of the ideas behind it, may not be the first word used to describe the game Dungeons and Dragons, due to the fact that quite the opposite happens within the game in fights with other players, bosses and creatures. Though with a look into some of the philosophical processes that can be applied to the game similar to the ones that the narrator applies to his motorcycle maintenance this word choice can be understood. With the use of the classic and romantic mode of thinking, classification of components, and the explanation of a truth trap within the game; the players and characters within the game get further explained as to why this game of destruction can be considered a philosophical Zen. Dungeons and Dragons has two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A truth trap can explain this phenomenon in the game. "Truth traps are concerned with the data that are apprehended and are within the boxcars of the train" (Prisig (ZMM), 410). The narrator speaks of truth traps and the ability to understand data using a scientific method, though the issue of yes no questions are brought up with a third option of mu which states neither yes or no. Dungeons and Dragons requires the players to think critically about decisions being made and while this thinking is going on questions are often asked to the other players and often to the Dungeon Master. Though in most instances the Dungeon Master does not give simple yes or no replies to these questions it seems as if he or she sticks with this mu to allow the group of players to figure it out for themselves. This is often due to the fact that the Dungeon Master wants to see the way the players handle a situation for possible character development or to make it more realistic as there is no person you can ask in the real world to solve all of ones issues or to tell them what to do next, where to go to, etc. this would make the Dungeon Masters actions similar to those explained by the narrator as Buddha's actions, since if the Dungeon Master were to answer your question it could be incorrect due to the fact the world within Dungeons and Dragons is what the players wish to make it not a straight forward way where the players have to do very specific things in order to move on in a ... Fantasy is a measure by which responders can be introduced to important notions in texts. C.S. Lewis' novel, The Magician's Nephew explores the creation of Narnia. Lewis explores friendship through the characters of Polly and Digory. The notion of Good vs. Evil and magic are also used throughout the novel and helps us understand the need for fantasy in our own lives. The notion of magic is explored throughout the novel. The final narration explores the everlasting between the two protagonists in the story. Friendship is also shown when Aslan has just finished the creation of when he tells the creatures " I give you Narnia, I give you the stars and I give you myself. This is the characterisation of Aslan. The author uses Aslan's words to further the allegory of the creation of the world, God's gift to us in friendship. Also in the resolution friendship is explored when time is passing and Polly and Digory are getting older saying " If ever they were sad, They thought of that golden goodness and all was well" Alliteration is used in this statement. • 3. The Consequences Of Video Games In the modern gaming industry with main stream Role Playing Games (RPGs), the battle between the two sub genres (Western RPGs and Japanese RPGs) have taken over the mass media discussions on which is "better" than the other. Despite this, the nominated RPGs in 2017 of Best Role–Playing Game of the year has shown that split in the society with great games such as Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Persona 5. However, in the past Western RPGs such as Mass Effect (2008) and Dragon Age: Origins (2009) have both won this award, dominating in the market through pandering towards the gaming community with precise implementations and uses that draw towards the market better than Japanese RPGs. This to show how Western RPGs pick up in any slack Japanese RPGs don't with certaingame mechanics that people rely on to have that challenge and immersion in the game. Despite this, there is the argument about the award shows that are exclusively for either Western or Japanese video games, and whether The Game Awards is valid in being used since Western RPGs are dominating in the community and hence the market. In fact, The Game Awards is a show that uses an international jury and as stated before, uses companies such as Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Activision on the advisory board in the first place. Both Nintendo and Sony Interactive Entertainment are operated in Japan and thus giving both Western RPGs and Japanese RPGs a chance compared to a show that there isn't a bias towards a side in this controversy. In the same fashion of immersion, the use of expression through character customization and the experience throughout the game greatly coincides with Western RPGs rather than Japanese RPGs. This is due to the fact that in Japanese RPGs the consumer is told a story rather than being able to be a part of the story, like in Western RPGs. As discussed in an article called "The Rise of Western RPGs" by Stace Harman (2014), in the 1980s to early 1990s, Western RPGs developed a "complex alignments system" to help adapt the player ... In this course, I feel like I have made an enormous improvement in writing different genre and rhetorical analysis related with the high fantasy. The method, I learned in this class is how to relate the text and secondary sources with the high fantasy which has been one of the most beneficial sources for me to improve my writing, not only that, but also my rhetorical, creative skills, and critical thinking about high fantasy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this assignment, I had improved a lot from draft one to final draft. Therefore, I decided to show my first draft because I believe it will be easier to see the improvement throughout the process till the final draft. In this assignment, one of my strongest points was finding secondary sources which have become very helpful for me. In this essay, I spend little extra time connecting all the secondary sources to my argument. Even some of the sources were easy to find on a topic about war related to A Game of Thrones. The main challenges I have experienced in this essay was looking for a technique that Martin's used to show how it is related to the real world. Another challenge I experienced was being too general, and not specific enough. Not being specific turned my essay to be imprecise and it made my essay to go off topic; in addition, it made my thesis vague and unclear to the reader. To make my essay clearer, I tried to add some evidence from the secondary sources to support my argument with some significant information on the war. For this assignment, the revision was simpler because the secondary sources I found were very useful to me. From this assignment, I was able to learn a lot of new skills such as relating the sources to the text and writing an appropriate research paper with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His leather boots kicked dust up from the arena floor as he moved in a slow circle, trying to get his back to the sun and diminish my line of sight. It was a good trick, but there was just one problem with that. I knew what he was trying to do. Even if I could keep him from blinding me, that hulking axe of his would do some major damage. If he hit me with that, no amount of blocking would keep my head from getting caved in like a casaba melon. Unfortunately, I was only good up close. I'd have to engage him sooner or later, and since his arms were longer than mine, I'd have to be quick. Even a cursory blow from him would mean trouble since the wardings on his gauntlets let me know he had ogre strength. That said, I'd done this dance a million times before. The key was to not get frazzled. No, I had to stay calm. If I was calm, I could win. At least in theory. Unfortunately, it was always easier to tell yourself to be calm than to actually calm down. On the other hand, it was always a lot easier to piss the other guy off. "Have you heard the one about your mother?" I asked, a grin melting across my face as I stepped back, trying to put space between me and his big axe. The muscles in his legs twitched as I spoke, letting me know he was about to attack. This film covers many different controversial topics. The book allows for many different perceptions of these topics to be seen.. Although the title of the film has a scientific feeling, it is more of a fantasy than a science fiction film. In the film "Bears Discover fire" one may interpret the movie as more of a fantasy film, with that being said the elements of a fantasy story base line can be perceived in a much bigger picture. In the film "Bears Discover Fire" one may preserve the film as fansty. In the film, there are parts of the story line that truly cannot happen during this time on earth. For example, when the bears are standing upright. In this scene one may think to themselves that this is something that can/ will not happen. Today's bears are not capable of standing upright and walking. Another example of a fantasy can be seen when the bears are walking around with fire. This scene shows signs of a fantasy because, a normal bear would not be capable of walking around with fire in their paws and setting up campfires. A final example of a fantasy in the film can be seen when, the grandma, Junior and Bobby are having a campfire with the bears in the woods. This is a scene that one might fantasize over. That is because it is not normal for humans to be close to a live bear and simple have a campfire with them. At this point a normal bear would have been frightened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Approaching the end of the play, in scene 10, the idea of Blanche'sfantasy is very clearly shown to the audience "[She is now placing the rhinestone tiara on her head before the mirror of the dressing table and murmuring excitedly as if to a group of spectral admirers]". The word choice of 'murmuring' shows to the audience that she doesn't know exactly what she is saying or thinking giving the effect that she is insane, not just messing around. This leads to further conflict in this scene as Stanley walks in and begins to pick apart Blanche's lies and stories she has told him about the millionaire. After Stanley has done with eating away at Blanche's tales, he proceeds to rape her. The stage direction "[...as he waits between BLANCHE and the outer door. The barley audible 'blue piano' begins to drum louder. The sounds of it turns into the roar of an approaching locomotive.]". This quote shows the increase of power that Stanley has over Blanche. The blue piano symbolises Blanche and her fantasy world, but as the locomotive approaches it overcomes the sound of the blue piano. The locomotive shows the real, cruel world Stanley lives ... • 31. M. Butterfly : Gender Roles And Power Essay The play M Butterfly highlights gender roles and power in a subtler way than in the film, M. Butterfly. The movie changes the timeline and thus the role of "Butterfly" has more depth because we see more of her interacting with Gallimard. Gallimard and Song undergo a role reversal navigating through the realities and fantasies of each other that are never part of the same one. Gallimard assumes the cultural stereotypes of this inferior culture and expects Song to fulfill this role while still also being devoted to him. The last scene of this play and movie changed the overall feeling of the two main characters and their other identities. The film and play address the intentions behind Song's mission differently, in the book Song seems more calculating and comes across as teasing Gallimard and less desperate than in the film. The confrontation between Song and Gallimard adds to the final breakdown of reality versus fantasy. Towards the end of play, Gallimard stands before the court and sees Song for the first time as a man. Song gives unheard testimony while Gallimard talks to the audience as he observes the man that was once his "butterfly." Gallimard no longer sees the woman he fell in love with in the testimony box. The glass has shattered on this fantasy he had of her. "You're only in my mind! All this is in my mind! I order you! To stop!" (Hwang 87) Gallimard's ideal woman always was partially based off of cultural and gender stereotypes. Gallimard assumed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Pan's Labyrinth Themes Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane A child's imagination is the most powerful weapon he or she can be armed with and it is within Guillermo Del Toro's captivating and Academy Award winning film, Pan's Labyrinth that we are presented with this concept as well as themes of existentialism and duality. Various motifs such as; brutality, innocence, childhood and war, allow Del Toro to construct two worlds that are all too real and very similar for one young girl. Set in Spain 1944 during a time when people are forced to choose between their beliefs and their survival, Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) is compelled to choose her faith in fantasies over her hope in humanity. Ofelia is in a battle of good vs. evil vs. innocence and must realize that all three cannot thrive. The opening and ending scenes of Del Toro's film show Ofelia's birth, death and rebirth while simultaneously providing the answers to the frequent philosophical questions Del Toro exhibited. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this stage of the movie, the faun character is completely rejuvenated and is with Ofelia but is fixated on opening the labyrinth's portal. The faun's transformation from old to young was done intentionally so that Ofelia's character could be judged properly. It is much harder to say "no" when temptation presents itself in a beautiful form. Ofelia's good nature and pure heart would be revealed in this moment and this was something del Toro wanted to exemplify. Ending a film with a child dying is disturbing however; del Toro chooses to make her death about redemption since she regained her innocence through death (i.e. rebirth). Ofelia would be "born again" and assume her role as Princess of the fantasy realm she desperately desired to be apart of. The final shot of Ofelia mirrors the opening shot of the film but this time, blood drips down and out of her nose while the nostalgic song plays softly, signifying the ... • 34. Existentialist Cafe Reflection Journal 7: Chapter 4 Existentialist CafГ© Discussion & Lecture on Freedom and Consciousness Heidegger emphasized that you can only project on where you stand. We can't just get up and get started on something new immediately if we decide that our current situation is something that we don't want anymore. An example would be me deciding if I should still pursue my Master's degree, or just finding a new job so I can earn some money for stuff. Considering this, I initially pursued it because I felt like I'm already being stagnant on the things that I have learned back when I was pursuing my Bachelor's, and I feel like I'm not able to apply it anymore especially when I got a job that's not fully in line with what I went to school for. ... That thing isn't free from the repercussions of his actions despite being free, so I responded that I have proper documentation, skills, and qualifications to do the said job. His insistence on his notion further escalated the repercussions. Despite him being qualified for our services, I did not allow him to say more and informed him that he ask another firm's assistance if he has an issue with our diversity. Another topic that caught my attention was of bad faith. It was made clear today that this concept is basically restricting one's choices due to pressure from external sources like society, family, etc. Basically, the statement of, "I have no choice, this is the only one that I have." It is highly evident in the most recent US election where both leading candidates were horrible, and the best alternative was to choose the lesser of two evils. Personally, I didn't give in and I chose to go for the candidate that was morally, academically and professionally qualified based on doing research (unfortunately, those candidates never stood a chance due to the masses' bad faith). A perfect example for this that I recalled was a quote on a video game named Final Fantasy X–2 (it's a sequel to Final Fantasy X, where this focused on the main character on X–2 to go in a different direction than the tradition usually ... • 35. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Video Game Therapy Video Game Therapy People choose many ways to learn how to deal with life. Life can be either difficult at times or easy. The same idea can be applied to video games. Playing online games taught me patience, how to interact with other people around the world and how to manage my stress. Two factors in online games that can determine my interest are drop rates and game difficulty. A drop rate is the probability or ratio that determines how much more or how much less an item will become available from an enemy in a game. The drop rate for some items can be miniscule. When I played Final Fantasy IX ten years ago, I had to kill a monster called a leech for an item that had a low drop rate. Because of the low drop rate, it took me six hours to obtain ... It calms me, and I forget about my problems for a while. It is a stress reliever, and I also get an adrenaline rush from challenging fights. When an enemy is tough and causes widespread area damage, every minute step or evasive direction I choose to make could be fatal. Some people quit, I choose to persevere until I win. The feeling when I accomplish something so difficult makes the task worth it. Because I am stationed overseas, I do not get to spend time with my family back in the states, and it causes stress. Online games are a great way to still keep in touch with them. Recently I started playing with my brother, although our time differences make it difficult. I also bond with my wife by playing video games. Socializing with others is enjoyable, but finding something that I can share with my significant other helps us manage relationship stress. I try to update her equipment in order for her to fully enjoy all that the game has to offer, and that in itself makes me happy. In conclusion, playing online games over the years has taught me how to persevere through tough times. • 36. Video Games Video Games – The Forgotten Art Ask any major in the fine arts for the definition of art. They're likely to tell you that it is self –expression through the use of some sort of medium. Most commonly thought of are clay for a sculpture, paint for a masterpiece, even music notes for a four–movement suite. The last thing you'd think of is a computer program for a video game. But why not? Don't video games incorporate both artwork and music? Each one is considered art, but many people consider the result, when put together, to be a waste of time. Through personal experience, I would have to define art as not only a way to express yourself, but as a source of inspiration to others. Not only do video games use art with music, they oftentimes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, most military games are based solely on some war or other, such as the games Call of Duty or Medal of Honor. Neither game is very original, as they really have no storyline other than to run around shooting the enemies. Originality is a prime requisite of a game being considered art. Other games lacking in uniqueness are games based on movies or books. Most famous in this category are the Star Wars games and Lord of the Rings series. Both may be very fun to play, but being fun to play does not make them art. Art is original, fresh, never–before–thought–of material. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings both have engaging storylines, but said storylines had already been established years before any game was produced. Again, to be art, a video game must have an original storyline, not a preconceived one. As a rule, few games meet the originality criterion, but there are exceptions. The Legend of Zelda. To any gamer it is a familiar name. The reason is simple– it was the first of its kind. The Legend of Zelda was the dawning of the role–playing genre in video games. As a role–playing game, it allowed the gamer to be in the decision–making role, not just a straight line, no choices game, as most were at the time. This was a new concept for a video game at the time The Legend of Zelda was released. The storyline was a huge success, as it drew the players into the game world, made them feel as if they were a part of it. In The Legend of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Hatice Ezberk The article by Hatice Ezberk "The Function of Fantasy as a subversive Genre in Literature" examines the idea of how fantastic literature can bring out an emphasis on how the world transforms through the writers eyes. As fantasy literature grows it can become unclear as to what social norms the literature is trying to juxtapose. Ezberk argues that trying to categorize fantasy literature is a rebellious act as the subgenre's become too specific and can at times deceive the reader by delivering functions it is not meant to deliver. Ezberk argues through other works by establishing that the concept of realism is not valid in fantasy literature as it becomes too vague. Instead fantasy literature takes the reader away from a world they know and into a world where it is heart desire to be. The concept of subversive literature is that it gives a reader encouragement to think creatively while reading and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Themes Of Avatar In the 21st century, movies present a platform for ideas and themes to be conveyed through a screen. Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and death are all only a few of the most common themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. According to Annalee Newitz in her essay "When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar?", a recurring theme she's noticed is the theme of white guilt. In her essay, Newitz depicts the movie Avatar as nothing more than a colorful rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. This is where the main white protagonist leaves the oppressive (white) side to join the oppressed native side upon seeing the error of his ways. Some Americans, including Newitz, believe that movies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, when Jake Sully became their "leader" so to speak, he had already submitted himself to the Na'vi life and made sure to prove his strength as a Na'vi, not as a white man. His intention at that point of the movie was not even to take over as the tribe leader, but rather just to lead his new family to fight for their land. Another "white fantasy" observation Newitz makes in her essay is that the white protagonist always becomes the savior. This is hardly the truth in the Avatar's case. Throughout thefilm, Jake is rescued by Neytiri and the Na'vi numerous times. Even after the final battle is over, it is Neytiri who saves his life when he begins to suffocate in his human form. Also, rather than Jake "saving the day" during the final battle, the film focuses on the fact that Jake is unable to combat the opposing side single–handedly, and can only succeed with the aid of his Na'vi brethren. In other words, rather than the white man saving the day, it was the teamwork of his native friends that made the win possible. Admittedly, the start of the movie illustrates the concept of one species (the humans) infiltrating another's (The Navi's) homeland. This was purposeful, as the producer–James Cameron–wanted to represent the way Europeans invaded Native American lands many years ago. However, this historical correlation was not created based on racial matters, but rather to show the negative effects of imperialism. James Cameron told The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
