Introduction–
In this research project I am going to analyse (talk about the issues that you are going to look at) reef
conservation, global warming and recreational fishing in Australia. I am going to look at three major
political parties; Australian greens, labour party, liberal party.

Me as a voter would look at the top for issues of the environment issues one is, reef health but also
global warming and fishing because it is the biggest threat and also what I personally care about, but
with global warming becoming more serious I think that it should be focused on more than anything
else. Reef conservation is a very important topic because if the coalition (liberal) start mining the
reef, the water quality will deteriorate and the habitats for fish and other sea creatures may get
destroyed. Another threat to the great barrier reef is commercial prawn netting, because the nets go
down into the reef water and get caught on the coral and can destroy the sea floor. Also catching by–
catch destroys the reef because the by–catch may be a parrot fish or a surgeon fish that helps the reef
control elegy levels(26). Commercial fishing can also cause species to go extinct. If species go
extinct then the water conditions will go brown and deteriorate then global warming will melt the
ice and will cause international flooding and destroy the $226 billion worth of structure along the

Global Warming And Its Effect On The Environment
On April 11, 2014, Cyclone Ita roared through Queensland, Australia leaving a trail of destruction in
its wake. One of the strongest Category 5 storms ever recorded, winds were recorded at over 110
miles per hour before landfall. While destruction in Queensland and the surrounding areas was
immense, the offshore damage to the Great Barrier Reef was catastrophic. Many places of the reef
were left with no living coral structures and entire portions of the ecosystem were erased from the
seabed (Zolfagharifard). Scientists explain that we can expect more intense storms such as Ita in the
future, explaining that "warming is expected to make tropical cyclones (hurricanes) more intense"
(Weeks). Global communities cannot ignore the warning any longer and must take action to reduce
further climate change.
Climate change is widely acknowledged by scientists as the greatest current threat to our planet.
Dependence on fossil fuels and blatant disregard for their effect on the environment is unfavorably
shifting the delicate balance between man and nature. A 2014 United Nations report warns that
"analysis reveals a worrisome worsening trend. Continued emissions of greenhouse gases will lead
to an even warmer climate and exacerbate the devastating effects of climate change" ("Emissions
GAP Report – 2014"). Recognizing that a long term solution is required to achieve both a shift in

A great thing about television introduction was that the invention rolled around just in time for the
Melbourne Olympics, dragging in ratings. I Love Lucy became a national favourite show as well,
the American comedienne charming many. For nights out on the town, the cinema, especially drive
in cinemas, became popular; even though the calibre of film making was at a low. People loved the

During the modern era there has been a successful historical change in Australia, established from a

The communication mishap required Frank to run from the trenches to the base camp on the beach.
Frank had to beg the British commander to stop the raid; however even though the commander
conceded to canceling the raid, Frank didn't have enough time to get back to the trenches to relay the
information to Major Barton. Frank arrived too late and Archy was killed in the raid. The

In 1945, after World War II had finished, Australia finally felt at peace – that was until Communism
began to have an effect on the entire world. Australia had a lot to fear, with the threat likely to
infiltrate the country both domestically (an established Communist Party) and internationally (a
geographical location close to countries that had already fallen victim to communism, such as China
and Korea). Australia responded to both of these threats in a way that caused a lot of political
controversy and has created bonds with other parts of the world that are still activated today.
The Communist Party of Australia (CPA) was greatly feared during the late–forties and early–fifties,
due to the previous effects of Communism in other countries. The CPA was formed in early 1920,
but did not generate a high level of membership until peaking at 20,000 members in 1945, following
the end of World War II. The CPA caused a few trade union strikes at the height of their popularity
in 1949, but they were rarely able to cause harm. Despite this, most Australians believed that the
CPA was trying to ruin the country. This idea was largely enforced by 'The Red Scare', a smear
campaign that was influenced in Australia by Menzies' Liberal Party, and then adopted by the

This can be seen with analysis of the preference distributions of electorates where One Nation
finished third. In total, the preferences flow 57.2% towards the Liberal Party. It is reasonable to
conclude that One Nation are not doing much more than simply send back the share of first
preference votes to the Liberal Party that were lost by One Nation seating a candidate.
However, what if One Nation had not directed preferences back to the Liberal Party? One Nation
last contested a Western Australian election in 2001 and recommended preferences to go against

Fremantle Prison built by convicts in the beginning of the 1950s. Cullity suggests that it illustrates a
combination of the British Empire's ideology, convict conflict with the colonial settlers, and
religious beliefs. The British supplied convicts to Western Australia in large numbers as a source of
indentured labor. This was the only way in which they could help ensure that the colony would
continue to exist. This article seems to be the most important reference for my essay since
exemplifies how the British empire used its prisoners to effectively rehabilitate a failing colony. It
also discusses how the convicts were controlled and divided in similar ways described in my other
sources. Overall, it supports one of the main ideas of my essay that expansion of the colony would
not have been possible without the governments increased pressure to expand the colony using,

agreement with France poses a risk to Australia's defence interests. His line of reasoning is that
France has proven itself in the past to be an unreliable ally. The evidence lies in France's past actions

in any way with those nations. Nevertheless, Bolt puts forward a fourth example in which France

Australia, a country with a population of more than 22 million has quite the complex governmental
system. Australia is known as a federation, a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary
democracy all in one. As a result, Australia has a queen, who resides in the United Kingdom, but is
represented by a Governor–General in Australia. Following, a Prime Minister governs the country.
In addition, there is a two–chamber Commonwealth Parliament that makes the laws. This diverse
government is often referred to as the Westminster System. The goal of this paper is to examine

Chisolm: The electorate of Chisholm is named after Caroline Chisholm (1800–1877). She was a
noted social worker and advocate for immigration of New South Wales. She helped newly
immigrated women in New South Wales to find shelter, dispersed the unemployed to the country so
that they could find work and improved the conditions for workers in goldfields in Victoria.
The current sitting member for Chisholm is Anna Burke. She is a member of the Australian Labor
Party. She has been serving the electorate of Chisholm since 1998 and served as a Speaker for the
House of Representatives during the 43rd Parliament. In 2005, Burke moved a Private Member's

Pros And Cons Of Conscription In The Vietnam War
During the Vietnamese war, conscription sparked a fierce debate that lasted for years, and split the
Australian public into two. When Australia agreed to help the South Vietnamese, at the hands of the
communist Vietcong, very few Australians questioned the judgement of the Australian leaders.
However, in November, 1964 – when the Australian Government brought conscription into the
Vietnamese war, with plans to increase the Australian army to 37,500 within the next three years, in
the form of 'National Service', the Australian population began to disagree with the Governments
judgement. There are two sides to this debate, the people who were all for the conscription of men,
and the people who were against conscription.
The Menzies Government, under the threat of Communist Vietnam, the domino effect, and the
pressure from the Americans to come help instigated Menzies, the Australian Prime Minister at the
time, to become involved in the war. During the war, it was believed that if South Vietnam were to
fall to communism, then communism would spread throughout the rest of Asia, then to Australia,
this was enough to spread fear through the entirety of the population and convince those in power to

particularly in America and Australia, that if no one did anything, and communism wasn't stopped,

The Issue Of Asylum Seekers
While the issue of asylum seekers has mainly challenged Australia's political power and resources,
the debate is mostly ethical and putting human dignity first is integral. Whilst both political parties
have very similar policies in regards to the topical issues, which are in essence going partially
against the Church's stance and human dignity. Australia has the economy, land, low population and
living style to support more asylum seekers/refugees, especially when we have a ranking of 48 in
the world on the scale of how many refugees we currently have accepted.
With both political parties having fairly similar opinions on the refugee situation, only having slight
differences, only a few differences separate the two, with labor wanting to increase the refugee
intake per year to almost double of what the coalition currently has in place which is 13,750 and
labor plan to raise it up to 27,000. (Australian Labor Party) Also labor also plans to reinstate the
UN's refugee convention, which Abbott is currently undermining, which is technically international
law. In one way this breach of international law Abbot has broken is refusing to take refugees that
has been allocated to Australia by the UN, for it is overstepping the coalitions humanitarian intake

The unwavering commitment to economic growth has seen an agreement, a continued bipartisan
