Course: Effective Middle Level Programs
Assignment: Active Learning
Action learning is an approach to instruction in which students engage the material they
study through reading, writing, talking, listening, and reflecting.
In a middle school classroom I may see active learning when the teacher employs a
number of different strategies to actively engage students in the learning process,
including group discussions, problem solving, case studies, role plays, journal writing,
and structured learning groups.
Students in the middle classroom can benefit from these strategies. They will help by
improving their critical thinking skills, increasing the retention and transfer of new
information, increasing their motivation, and improving interpersonal skills. Itdoes mean
