What is a Canberra SMART probe?
High Voltage Power Supply in Probe!
Hot plug on meter without powering down instrument
Measurement starts immediately without any necessary setup
Measurement is not cable quality dependent!
Calibration data in probe memory
Each probe is independent from meter
Each probe is separately calibrated
Meter remains available during probe calibration process
Probe includes
HVPS, Amplifier, discriminator(s) & signal processing
Calibration data and ID
Alarm set-points (10 for each unit to display) and default/last
selection
Data Logging (up to 1000 points in probe memory!)
independant
CSP probe will function on it’s own
can be connected directly to PC or other interface

Application
Measurement Traceability
Measurement can now be associated to :
User : WHO ?
Probe that was used to take the measurement : HOW ?
Date stamp : Date and Time of measurement : WHEN ?
Location (GPS, Barcode, RFID, …) : WHERE ?
Measurement can be centralized immediately without
paperwork – real time becomes a fact!
Entering user codes grants
access to various functions
depending on user profile
User is identified!
GPS : measurement is associated
with GPS coordinates
Barcode : measurement is
associated with barcode reader
-> localization

From CSP Philosophy
to Remote Monitoring
Different CSP-COM modules for different applications :
Wireless :
Bluetooth : For cable replacement (compatible with Colibri & CSPS)
WiFi : For networking activity through a centralized system
RF 915MHz, RF 868MHz For networking activity through a
centralized system long range – needs RF base stations
Wired for networking application :
RS 485 to re-use existing cabling
Ethernet for enhanced networking abilities
CSP COM modules
integrate a rechargeable Li-ion battery, with a 12V power input
are plugged on any CSP probe

Network
Colibri : the transition
instrument, from wired to
wireless
Allows remote monitoring in
hot areas
Allows mapping with its GPS,

CSP COM are modules to improve
communication between a CSP
monitor and the CSP to :
Improve communication distance
Centralize measurements in one point
Multiplex communications
This brings me :
Easier manipulation by getting rid of the
cable
