Canis Major Explanation
My favorite Constellation is Canis Major, the Great Dog. It is located in the southern sky and it contains Sirius, the Dog Star. I chose this
constellation because of the fact that it contains the Dog Star. I also like this constellation because it looks like it is following or chasing Orion. Canis
Major was catalogued by the Greek Astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd Century. This Constellations is the 43rd largestconstellation, taking up an area of
380 square degrees.
Canis Major is associated with the fastest dog in the world, Laelaps. Laelaps and a javelin that could never miss were given by Zeus to Europa.
However, the gift backfired when Europa was accidentally killed by her husband, Cephalus, who was out hunting with the javelin. Cepahlus ... Show

There was a very large dog who was traveling along a road at night. It came across some animal tracks so it followed them. It followed them for
what seemed like days until it stumbled upon a camp. Because this dog had been traveling for awhile, it decided to stop and see if it could find
any food. It found some and began eating. Shortly after, a group of men came bounding towards the camp. The dog was seen by the men, so it
began to run. The men ran after it. They ran through trees and across rivers until they could not run anymore. They all came to the clearing and
stopped. One of the men walked forward, away from the group. He said to the dog, "What you have done is punishable. However, I give you a
choice. You can either die by the hands of this bow and arrow, or you can drink this and go peacefully. Make your choice." The dog contemplated
the choices and then decided. It walked over to the man and sniffed at the vial. The man then said," Once you drink this, you will become one with
the stars and you will watch over this planet and stop any from stealing food or other items in any way possible.". The dog nodded and drank the
liquid. It was instantly killed and the dog became known as Canis Major, the Great

Cassiopeia Research Paper
I chose the constellation Cassiopeia because it is a constellation that I already heard about but I did not know its history. So, it is a constellation,
discover by Ptolemy, which are makes up of 5 main stars. These stars have the form of a "W" or a "M" depending of its position.
The name of the constellation comes from the Greek myth of the queen Cassiopeia (ОљО±ПѓПѓО№ПЊПЂОµО№О±). She was the queen of
Aethiopia. She was married to the king Cepheus and they had one daughter, Andromeda. Cassiopeia was boastful. She claimed that her daughter and
herself were more beautiful than the Nereids, the sea nymphs. In order to punish her for her proudness, Poseidon decided to submerge Aethiopia.
Cassiopeia and Cepheus wanted to calm the sea God. They went to

Constellations In Research Paper
For many years constellations have played an important role in different societies and culture, from one generation to the other. But what is a
constellations? from where does the name of constellations come from? why are constellations useful? Or how can we find our nearby star this are
some leading im going to try to answer in this essay. Aconstellation is the group of a bright star that forms shapes and patterns in the sky but are far
apart in space. According to (Bennett, 2012) the start in a particular constellation appear to look closer to one another, but in reality, they are quite far
apart because they lie at different distances from Earth. To measure the nearby star the astronomers use a technique called parallax. ... Show more

For example, if a person was looking for destinations in the sea, the first thing to look for is the big dipper part of the Ursa Major, because the two right
side of the big dipper points out directly to the polar star. Another method to find the not start is by using the Cassiopeia in the sky as the north
start is between the big dipper and the Cassiopeia star. After the person reaches north, he/she could use his left arm to find the west side and the
right arm to find the east side and the south will be the north star. The or belt could also serve as a way to help you located the south; by using the
sword that hangs from belts you can point your way south it. Ancient people use the star as a navigation skill to located their destinations. In today's
society, there are 12 familiar constellations that we mostly know and play a significant role. These are knowns as the 12 zodiac sign. They are

Centaurus Research Paper
The constellation I have chosen is Centaurus! Centaurus is of course a bright constellation that belongs in the southern sky and is considered to be
one of the largest constellations. Of course because of its position in the Milky Way, it contains several very bright stars and to add to this, its beta and
alpha star are used to find the constellation Crux, this constellation has a magnitude of 6.5 and 281 stars and with the magnitude of 6.5 makes it visible
to the unaided eye. I chose this constellation because I find it the most interesting and I find it absolutely beautiful, we have so much left to discover
about this constellation.

Explanation Of Scorpion Quotes
1. I have chosen the constellation Scorpion, because it's my friends constellation. Scorpion is a constellation to the Southern sky dome, lying in the
galaxy, between the right ascension 15u44m and 17u55m and between –8В° and –46В° declination. The following stars are part of the constellation;
Antares, Acrab (or Elacrab), Dschubba, Sargas, Jabbah, Girtab, Iclill and Alniyat. 2. Orion is a figure from Greek mythology. He was, according to
tradition, a good hunter from Thebes and the only person to whom Artemis fell in love. Apollon, approved this love away, and sent a giant scorpion
after Orion. In an attempt to escape the monster dived Orion sea and swam towards Delos. Apollo saw, called his sister and pointed at the head of

My chosen constellation is Phoenix because the phoenix is one of my favourite magical creatures as it symbolises renewal. The constellation was
introduced by the Dutch astronomer Petrus Plancius in the late 16th century. The constellation was named after the phoenix, a creature that is reborn
from its own ashes after it dies. Phoenix is a relatively small constellation , but is the largest of the constellations created and named by Plancius.
Phoenix can easily be seen in the southern hemisphere summer, but can be viewed very low in the sky in some places in the northern hemisphere.

The Constellation Program
One main contributions to today's advanced technology is the satellite. Though the first satellite was sent to space in 1957, people were not able to
pick up a satellite connection to their home televisions until 1980. Today, 96.7 percent of Americans have a television in their household, which means
96.7 percent of Americans are using satellite connection ("Ownership of TV 1). Though people may not even think twice about it, satellites play a
huge role in today's society. When someone uses their navigator to figure out how to get to the closest Wal–Mart? They are using a satellite. When
troops are searching for enemy troops and predicting missile attacks? They are using a satellite. When someone is watching the weather broadcast?

When mankind doubted the ability to fly, we not only proved that we could soar, but we also could shoot a rocket into outer space. Though it took
around six years for the Wright brothers to conduct a practical plane, they managed to do so. It started off with just getting an understanding with
aerodynamics. Then, that formed into building gliders. Before the world knew it, they had build a full functioning airplane. At a rate like this, the trip
to Mars would not seem the least bit bizarre. As of today, there is much talk about a new and improved spacecraft called the Orion. This spacecraft
will resemble the design of the original Apollo, but there will be updates in the technology to make it more modern and high–tech. There has been
plans to take the Orion spacecraft and a load of passengers to the moon, and even to Mars. If they are successful in doing so, there will be
exploration of greater distances and extended stays in space. Instead of only being in outer space for ten days, people will have the ability to stay
weeks, and even months out of earth's orbit. Space travel is drifting into a new and more advanced

Big Dipper Research Paper
The Big Dipper itself isn't a constellation but classified as an asterism. An asterism is a prominent pattern or group of stars. The big dipper is a part of
constellation Ursa Major. Ursa major is the third largest constellation of all eighty–eight. Ursa Major, the big dipper, has greatest number of stars
compared to other constellations.
The big dipper asterism is also known as the plough. The big dipper asterism forms less than half of the entire constellation Ursa Major. The big dipper
a part of the Ursa Major constellation was discovered in 1869 by astronomer Richard A. Proctor. He realized that all of the big dippers stars except Eta,
have proper motions heading toward the constellation Sagittarius.
The big dipper within Ursa Major represents "The great bear." It is recognized as a distinct grouping in many cultures. The big dipper is a part of

Crux Research Paper
My favorite constellation is Crux. I have always been interested in stars, but I have had trouble recognizing constellations. And Crux, or more
specifically, the asterism of the Southern Cross, was the first constellation I ever distinguished in the night sky without assistance. I also associate the
constellation with the trip that I was on at the time I saw it, since it is not visible from my home. Crux is the smallest constellation, but it is bright
and easily seen and recognized with the naked eye. The main asterism, the Southern Cross, is a grouping of five stars in the approximate shape of a
cross. The cross is used in navigation similar to the way in which the North Star is used in the northern hemisphere. The longer 'beam' of the cross

The constellation I have chosen to write about is Orion. This is one of the most famous constellations in the night sky. I chose this one because as I

man holding a club and shield. It is easily recognized by the three stars in a line that form the hunter's belt. The myth of Orion is an interesting one.
Orion was known as a hunter in Greek mythology, and he boasted that he could defeat and kill any animal on Earth. This greatly angered Gaea, the
earth goddess, so she sent a small scorpion to kill Orion. Unable to shoot his arrows through the scorpion's armor, he ran into the sea to escape. During

Obligation: Orion, Or The Hunt
My favourite constellation is Orion, or the hunter, as it's the first one I learned how to identify when I was a kid. Orion is easiest to see from
November through to February, to the south–west if you are in the Northern Hemisphere, or the north–west if you are in the southern one. It's most
marking feature is the belt, three bright stars in a short line. Most of the stars that make up the constellation or blue giants or supergiants.
The myth for this constellation is Greek. In it, Orion claims to be the best hunter in the world, which doesn't sit well with Hera, Zeus' wife. She sets a
scorpion on him to kill him, allowing Zeus to put him up as a constellation.
If I were to create a myth for Orion it would go like this: Orion was revered

Orion Negotiation Or The Hunt Explanation
I have chosen the Orion constellation, or the hunter constellation as some call it. I chose this constellation because it is a beautiful constellation. Orion
is the brightest and most beautiful of the winter constellations. Some of its stars, including Betelgeuse and Rigel, are among the brightest stars. While it
was named after the hunter in Greek mythology it is definitely not stealthy. Orion is one of the most prominent and recognizable constellations in the
sky and can be seen throughout the world. It is located on the celestial equator.
According to mythology, Orion proclaimed himself the greatest hunter in the world, to the dismay of Hera, wife of Zeus. Hera had a scorpion kill
Orion and Zeus put him into the sky as a constellation.

NASA has been in the business of sending men and materials into space for more than fifty years. With the introduction of the space shuttle in 1980,
however, it has essentially become a transport and shipping company rather than an organization responsible for developing modern technologies to
take Americans to Mars and beyond. The space shuttle was a tremendous technological achievement that enabled NASA to send millions of tons of
cargo and equipment into low Earth obit, but its successor, the Constellation Program, which relies on rockets and crew capsules much like NASA's

NASA would no longer function as a delivery company. It would resume its original vision "to explore the Universe and search for new life, and to
inspire the next generation of explorers" ("NASA Mission", 2009).
NASA could be relieved of the routine task of sending astronauts and cargo into space by encouraging private companies to develop the next
generation of traditional rockets. Companies, such as Boeing, would be able to do the job more efficiently and at a much lower cost than NASA
could (Johnsson, 2010). NASA would be able to commission private companies to build rockets that would suit a particular need much like the various
branches of the military do for their own vehicles.
Once routine, commercial space flights become commonplace, NASA would be free to develop the next generation of space exploration vehicles,
which would most likely be based on plasma propulsion technology ("Propulsion Systems", 2003). All of NASA's manpower and funding could be
directed towards researching and perfecting these new systems which would allow man to travel to distant worlds at speeds much greater than is
possible today.
Although some may be troubled by the idea of NASA eliminating its current manned space program, the benefits are likely to become more apparent
in time. By focusing on the future of space travel, NASA will be able to develop programs

What Is Pegasus Myth
I'm choosing the Pegasus constellation because the myth/legend of it is very interesting and I have quite a similar personality. It is the seventh largest
constellation in the sky. The 8 named stars are–Markab, Scheat, Algenib, Enif, Homan, Matar, Baham, and Salm. Markab is the brightest star in Pegasus.
In Greek mythology, Pegasus was a white winged–horse. The most famous/well known myth involving Pegasus is the one of Bellerophon, the hero
who was sent by King Iobates of Lycia to kill the Chimera, a monster that breathed fire and was slaughtering people. Bellerophon found Pegasus and
tamed him using a golden bridle given to him by the goddess Athena. Then he swooped down on the Chimera from the sky and killed the monster
with his lance and arrows. After this and several other heroic deeds for King Iobates, Bellerophon let the successes get to his head. Riding Pegasus,
he tried to fly to Olympus and join the gods. He didn't succeed. He fell off the horse and back to Earth.
Pegasus did however make it to Olympus. There, Zeus used the horse to carry his thunder and lightning, and eventually placed him among the
constellations. The constellation Pegasus is depicted with only the top half of the horse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Hunter: An Uncontrollation In Ancient Greek Myth

What followed none of the hunters understood, but it started the fear of and fascination with magic that all Muggles possess to this very day.
Out of the canyon rose a figure, bathed in light, a glowing length of wood in her hand and with a belt of starlight around her waist.

What Is Paid Precession?
Precession is a change in the orientation and rotational axis of one singular body. A strong torque and gravitational influence is what makes the earth
tilt. There are three different types precession; axial procession, apsidal precession and nodal precession. Axial procession is defined as the movement
of the rotational axis of an astronomical body, through–which the axis slowly traces out a cone–like shape. Apsidal precession brings to light that orbits
of planets around the Sun do not really follow the same ellipse each time, but actually trace out a flower–petal shape. Nodal procession is the
precession of the orbital plane of a satellite around the rotation axis of an astronomical body such as Earth. Nodal precession is due to the non–spherical

As constellations move about one degree per day, they complete a 360 degrees circular motion in a year, making them return back to the same
position as they were the year before3. As mentioned earlier the rotation of constellations depends on where you look and your location. For instance,
a person who looks up North would tend to realize that the constellations are rotating in the counterclockwise direction around the north celestial
pole, which is beside Polaris3. The explanation to why it seems like the constellations are rotating counterclockwise is because the earth spins from
west to east, meaning that it is rotating to the right, while the stars and constellations above, moves from east to west3. In contrast, those who face
the south, will see the stars rotate clockwise3. For a person who is facing the east will see the stars rise in the front of them and set behind, while a
person who faces the west will see the stars rise behind and set in front of them3. Though constellations travel from East to West like the planets, people
from different parts of the world will have a different standpoint on the movements of the constellations. Now that we have an understanding of
constellations, lets take a look at a few notable ones, starting with the

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In modern astronomy, a constellation is an internationally defined area of the celestial sphere. These areas are grouped around asterisms (which
themselves are generally referred to in non–technical language as "constellations"), which are patterns formed by prominent stars within apparent
proximity to one another on Earth's night sky. There are 88 standard constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) since
1922. The majority of these go back to the 48 constellations defined by Ptolemy in his Almagest (2nd century). The remaining ones were defined in the
17th and 18th century; the most recent ones are found on the southern sky, defined in Coelum australe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

She was young, smart and beautiful, the most beautiful in all the world. Making friends was always hard as other girls were jealous of her beauty.
Running away seemed to be the best option and so one day she left without saying goodbye to anyone. She traveled for days and days before she
found a new town. Hoping she could make it her new home Andromeda tried to make the best of the situation. To her surprise the girls there were
worse than the ones back home. They started calling her names and throwing things at her out of pure jealousy. One night while Andromeda was
fast asleep a group of the towns girls grabbed her and tied her up to a tree in hopes a wild creature or monster would find her and destroy her
beauty. Two days Andromeda was tied to that tree and fear had quickly found her, every sound she was sure would be the last thing she heard. On
the third evening a young man appeared in front of her, Perseus. Freeing her and taking her away with him they married and had a large family.
Upon Andromeda's death Perseus felt he needed to find a way to honor her for lifetimes to come. Seeking out anyone who could help he cast her up

Cassiopeia Research Paper
My favorite constellation would be the Cassiopeia. It is one of the most recognizable constellations in the northern sky during night time in fall and
early winter. It has a W shape formed by five bright stars. It is part of the 48 constellations written in Ptolemy's work in the 2nd–century and still part
of the 88 modern constellations today.
Cassiopeia was the beautiful and proud wife of King Cepheus and the mother of Princess Andromeda. She is known as a vain queen for bragging that
she's lovelier than the sea nymphs and even Juno herself. The goddesses who were much insulted went to Neptune for help. At some stories,

Cassiopeia was the most beautiful woman in the Sun kingdom but has a heart of a stone. She never knew love and she didn't have any friends. Her
father, the faithful servant of the king made an heroic deed of slaying the bandits in their kingdom and the king rewarded him. The king decided,
as a reward that his daughter will marry his heir, Prince Igor. She never really cared but Igor's really attracted to her. One day before her marriage,
she decided to roam around the village when an old woman came to her and asked for a few change. She didn't hesitate to give which surprised the
people around her. After giving the old woman some change, the woman asked for another help. She said her 6 year old son's left in the dark forest
and she can't go back to fetch him with the state of her feet. She looked at her feet and they're crooked and dry. She decided to help her. She asked
the woman to wait for her in the shed as she went to the south part of the village where the dark forest lies. She went there, ignoring the fact that it's
dangerous. She came across a small house and there she met Amos. Amos was a gentleman and he's really attractive. Cassiopeia hasn't met anyone that

Draco Research Paper
I choose to discuss the constellation Draco, or "The Dragon." I choose this constellation because a dragon is perhaps my most beloved and favorite
creature of all time, magical or not. This constellation was also featured in my favorite movie of all time, "Dragonheart." Draco was just one of the
constellations listed by Ptolemy, a 2nd century astronomer and it is circumpolar, or never setting. Draco consists of fourteen main stars, with its
brightest star being y Dra. The constellations lies near Hercules and Ursa Major, in the North. In the Greco–Roman legend, Draco was a real dragon,
fought and killed by the goddess of wisdom, war, and art, Minerva. Minerva killed the dragon and threw him into the sky. As she threw him, he
twisted up and froze from the cold of the North Celestial Pole, before he could straighten himself. Draco was said to be just one of several Gigantes,
who fought the Olympic gods for ten years.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

years did he reign over a terrified realm, human and dragon alike too scared to rise up. Until one day, a young girl born in the nest of a griffin, and

Andromeda And Pereus Research Paper
The autumn constellations Andromeda and Perseus, along with Cetus, Pegasus, Cassiopeia and Cepheus, are richly intertwined in mythology, but are
vastly diverse in the objects they present to astronomers. While Perseus lies along the Milky Way, and offers many dazzling open star clusters and
diffuse nebulae, Andromeda lies away from our galaxy's plane, and introduces us to the inhabitants of intergalactic space. Some of the finest celestial
objects reside in these constellations, and it is well worth braving cool autumn nights to observe them. Truly one of the showpieces of the northern
sky is the Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier 31, M31 or NGC 224. The galaxy was known as the "little cloud" to the Persian astronomer

Canis Major Research Paper
For my essay on my favorite constellation I have chosen Canis Major, The Great Dog. I have chosen Canis Major because of how he and Canis Minor
are often depicted as following the constellation of Orion the hunter through the sky. I have also chosen Canis Major because it contains Sirius, the
brightest star in the sky, also known as "The Dog Star". Canis Major is located in the Southern Hemisphere with Monoceros to the north, Puppis to the
east/southeast, Columba to the southwest, and Lepus to the west. Canis Major is one of the brightest constellations because of it's many bright stars. It
is most visible at 9:00 P.M. in February.

As a puppy Cantis Major was often picked on by his brothers and sisters for being so small and helpless, though as the years went on, he grew and
grew and grew! By the age of five years old he was by far, the largest among his brothers and sisters. He had not only grown in size but in strength,
agility, and bravery. Cantis Major, now the leader of his own hunting pack was a highly respected member of his community, and dare I say, even a
bit of a local celebrity. However, one day while out on a hunt he caught a whiff of a rabbit and left his pack to pursue the smell. While keeping up
the high speed chase he heard the sound of a baby crying, being as noble as he was he couldn't just let the poor, innocent creature be in peril! He
followed the sound until he came upon the baby who was being carried off by a horrible bear creature! This creature was indescribable. Almost a
bear, almost a wolf, almost something else entirely! This baby this poor, poor baby was about to be devoured by the monstrosity, he could not let that
happen. So he lunged it the monster, effectively taking its neck between his powerful jaws, he bit down and thrashed around, ripping and tearing.
Until, the creature stopped moving. He felt victory! That is, until he noticed how dizzy he was and felt the red liquid seeping into his coat. Everything

Observation of Earth’s Constellations Essay
Earth's galaxy, the Milky Way consists of more than 100 billion stars, many of which can be interpreted by human visual perception, while other can
only be observed with the aid of a magnifying or light–collecting optical device such as a telescope. The stars are organized into various groupings
according to their visible arrangement as observed in earth's atmosphere. Human beings from cultures of eras bygone such as the Greeks, Romans, and
Babylonians, and bestowed most, if not all of the titles upon the constellations as we know them today. Earth's atmosphere comprises eighty–eight
constellations, of which I have chosen the following five to discuss for my laboratory report: Andromeda, Big Dipper, Cassiopeia, Cepheus, and Draco

Cepheus is an inconspicuous constellation, which is dimmer than most and in the northern hemisphere located west of Cassiopeia. It has been
recognized that the binary star Cephei from its constellation, will be the next Polar star between AD 3000 and 5200 (fourth and sixth century), and will
be in a position adjacent the celestial pole around AD 4000 (fifth century). The constellation encompasses various nebulae, star clusters and galaxies
such as the Milky Way which transverses an area of the Cephus constellation by way of its adjoining southern space with Lacerta. The constellation
Draco is another circumpolar constellation, which is observable in the Northern Hemisphere from the September equinox to the December solstice. It
is a very luminous constellation that consists of four stars resembling a trapezoid. Draco's constellation consists of various interacting galaxies whose
gravitational fields causes disturbances to one another and along with galaxy clusters. I spent as much time as I could observing the stars and
constellations for this project, despite the fact that we had several days of bad whether which left us with cloudy, cold skies. There wasn't any degree
of difficulty to this project and I found it rather enjoyable and very informative. I am giving serious consideration towards purchasing a telescope as a
result of this project

Pegasus Research Paper
I have chosen to write about Pegasus as my favorite constellation as it is one of the first I ever learned about and really enjoy the story behind it.
Pegasus is located in the northern sky and is named after the winged horse 'Pegasus' from Greek Mythology. Ptolemy, a 2nd century astronomer listed
Pegasus as one of the 48 constellations of that time and Pegasus remains as one of the 88 constellations today.
Pegasus's creation myth comes from Greek Mythology. Pegasus was a pure white winged stallion horse–god. There are many tales of Pegasus with
riders such as the hero Bellerophon who Pegasus Pegasus aided in his fight against both the Chimera and the Amazons; But it was Pegasus' service to
Zeus that granted him transformation into a constellation.

Argumentation Of 'Apus' Computation
My favourite constellation is Apus. Apus is also known as 'The Bird of Paradise'. It is called this as the Greek, who named the costellation, knew the
bird of paradise to have no feet. By looking up at Apus, you can see the body figure but no feet. Apus also translates into 'no feet' in Greek. I chose this
constellation because I am intrigued at why the bird of paradise, so to speak, has no legs and why this is so great. Apus intrigues my sense of curiosity
as to it's origin and why it is called what it is.
The constellation was created and catalogued in the late 16th Century by a man named Petrus Plancious, who was a Dutch astronomer and
cartographer. It was named 'The Bird of Paradise' because the only bird specimens that the Westerners

Myth Behind The Sagittarius Constellation

zodiac signs, and they supposed to foretell your personality depending on when you are born. Not only does this constellation have a colorful history,
it also has an interesting present. This group of stars is one of the 88 modern day constellations and one of the 48 recognized constellations by the 2nd
century astronomer Ptolemy. It is also located in the most dense part of the Milky Way galaxy. Meaning that theconstellation has many nebulae and star
clusters. I didn't choose the Sagittarius constellation just because of these exquisite features, but because according to the zodiac sign timing, I am a

but the main way the Sagittarius is thought of is as Chiron, a centaur. Chiron is the son of Cronus and Philyra and was thought as the strongest of his
brethren, and his skills are very much alike to the Greek god, Apollo. Not only was Chiron the superlative, but he had one difference in appearance
opposed to most centaurs, in most stories of him he had hands instead of hooves in the front instead of the traditional entire lower half being

Perseus Andromeda Research Paper
The constellation that I've chosen to discuss in this essay is the constellation Andromeda. The reason why I've chosen this constellation is as a young
girl I've always loved the Greek Myths in all their many versions. I remember liking the tale of Perseus and Andromeda and the sense of adventure I
found in the tale.
The constellation Andromeda is said to be located in the northern sky, otherwise called the northern hemisphere, containing the 'Andromeda Galaxy'.
Following on with the Greek myth, there are also several constellations that border the Andromeda constellation, Perseus, Cassiopeia, Lacerta, Pegasus,
Pisces, Cepheus and Triangulum, but the ones to note are the ones from the myth: Perseus, Cassiopeia, Cepheus and in some versions of the tale,
Pegasus. Her future lover and king, her mother, her father and the winged steed that aided Perseus.
From the versions I have heard, it's hard to remember what is from one and what is from another. Thus, my retelling will most likely pull from several.
Andromeda was born princess, daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, the king and queen of 'Ethiopia'. The princess was a beautiful young woman, and

Triangle along with Vega and Altair, and is estimated to be 60,000 times brighter than oursun! The interesting thing about Albireo, the star at the head

According to Lore, Ganymede was a well kept and clean young prince of Troy, who was always the center of Zeus' attention and affection. He was
brought to Mount Olympus, where he served as cup bearer to the gods and was given eternal youth. One legend is that Zeus sent his pet eagle,
Aquila, to carry Ganymede to Olympus, and there was another that it was Zeus disguised himself as an eagle, who swept him up and carried him
to the home of the gods. Each legend concluded to where he had to contribute the wrath of Zeus' wife, Hera. the two reasons of why she was mad
was because she didn't think that her own husband should have such feelings for a young man like Ganymede, and also that Ganymede was to be
given the favored position that was originally held by her own daughter Hebe, the goddess of youth. Once Ganymede realized how in need of water
the people on earth were, he begged and pleaded with Zeus to be allowed to help them and was given permission to send down rain. From then on, he

The Space Camp Grounds Of Huntsville, Alabama
By the time my class, 25 seventh graders from St. Michael's Episcopal Day school, reached our final destination, we were exhausted. But even that
crippling exhaustion couldn't keep us from being excited about touring the Space Camp grounds in Huntsville, Alabama. We were amazed by just
about everything we saw. There were massive shuttles and rockets, thrilling simulators, and themed accommodations. But the thing that caught my eye
most was the giant room where simulated missions were held. I knew from the instant I set my eyes on that massive space that the missions would be
my favorite part of the trip. Fast forward to Wednesday morning that same week. Our class had been divided into two groups earlier that week. Our

single–file line, careful not to talk enough to upset our counselor. After gathering the food I would eat for breakfast, I headed to the table we had
claimed and sat down next to Bill, AJ, and Carlo. I opened my first package of Trix cereal, delicious yet inadequate, as we discussed the previous
night's affairs. I ate my second as we pointed and laughed at the TV screens that played the same footage over and over, and at the man who we
nicknamed "Dr. Evil". My third package of Trix was devoured as we talked about what we missed from home. The fourth was gone no later than
the end of that conversation as well. Finally, I ate my 5th and final box of Trix as my friends and I excitedly rumoured about what we heard would
happen that day. "I heard we were going to use the 1/6th chair". "I think we do our pool activity today". "We actually get to go to space today!". "I'm
going to completely fail the mission...". I felt the same way. After we finished disposing of our garbage and putting the dishes away, we headed to the

Canis Major Explanation

  • 1. Canis Major Explanation My favorite Constellation is Canis Major, the Great Dog. It is located in the southern sky and it contains Sirius, the Dog Star. I chose this constellation because of the fact that it contains the Dog Star. I also like this constellation because it looks like it is following or chasing Orion. Canis Major was catalogued by the Greek Astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd Century. This Constellations is the 43rd largestconstellation, taking up an area of 380 square degrees. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a very large dog who was traveling along a road at night. It came across some animal tracks so it followed them. It followed them for what seemed like days until it stumbled upon a camp. Because this dog had been traveling for awhile, it decided to stop and see if it could find any food. It found some and began eating. Shortly after, a group of men came bounding towards the camp. The dog was seen by the men, so it began to run. The men ran after it. They ran through trees and across rivers until they could not run anymore. They all came to the clearing and stopped. One of the men walked forward, away from the group. He said to the dog, "What you have done is punishable. However, I give you a choice. You can either die by the hands of this bow and arrow, or you can drink this and go peacefully. Make your choice." The dog contemplated the choices and then decided. It walked over to the man and sniffed at the vial. The man then said," Once you drink this, you will become one with the stars and you will watch over this planet and stop any from stealing food or other items in any way possible.". The dog nodded and drank the liquid. It was instantly killed and the dog became known as Canis Major, the Great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Cassiopeia Research Paper I chose the constellation Cassiopeia because it is a constellation that I already heard about but I did not know its history. So, it is a constellation, discover by Ptolemy, which are makes up of 5 main stars. These stars have the form of a "W" or a "M" depending of its position. The name of the constellation comes from the Greek myth of the queen Cassiopeia (ОљО±ПѓПѓО№ПЊПЂОµО№О±). She was the queen of Aethiopia. She was married to the king Cepheus and they had one daughter, Andromeda. Cassiopeia was boastful. She claimed that her daughter and herself were more beautiful than the Nereids, the sea nymphs. In order to punish her for her proudness, Poseidon decided to submerge Aethiopia. Cassiopeia and Cepheus wanted to calm the sea God. They went to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Constellations In Research Paper For many years constellations have played an important role in different societies and culture, from one generation to the other. But what is a constellations? from where does the name of constellations come from? why are constellations useful? Or how can we find our nearby star this are some leading im going to try to answer in this essay. Aconstellation is the group of a bright star that forms shapes and patterns in the sky but are far apart in space. According to (Bennett, 2012) the start in a particular constellation appear to look closer to one another, but in reality, they are quite far apart because they lie at different distances from Earth. To measure the nearby star the astronomers use a technique called parallax. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, if a person was looking for destinations in the sea, the first thing to look for is the big dipper part of the Ursa Major, because the two right side of the big dipper points out directly to the polar star. Another method to find the not start is by using the Cassiopeia in the sky as the north start is between the big dipper and the Cassiopeia star. After the person reaches north, he/she could use his left arm to find the west side and the right arm to find the east side and the south will be the north star. The or belt could also serve as a way to help you located the south; by using the sword that hangs from belts you can point your way south it. Ancient people use the star as a navigation skill to located their destinations. In today's society, there are 12 familiar constellations that we mostly know and play a significant role. These are knowns as the 12 zodiac sign. They are grouping star that lies along the ecliptic– the plane in which our solar system lies. Usually, they are listed by each month of the year, for example, the order goes by as "Capricorn's, Aquarius, pieces, Aries, Tauro, Gemini, Leo Cancer, Libra, Virgo, scorpions and Sagittarius. the 12 zodic mark the beginning of the fouth season, navegation and somestimes to identify a person ... • 4. Centaurus Research Paper The constellation I have chosen is Centaurus! Centaurus is of course a bright constellation that belongs in the southern sky and is considered to be one of the largest constellations. Of course because of its position in the Milky Way, it contains several very bright stars and to add to this, its beta and alpha star are used to find the constellation Crux, this constellation has a magnitude of 6.5 and 281 stars and with the magnitude of 6.5 makes it visible to the unaided eye. I chose this constellation because I find it the most interesting and I find it absolutely beautiful, we have so much left to discover about this constellation. Scorpion is a constellation to the Southern sky dome, lying in the galaxy, between the right ascension 15u44m and 17u55m and between –8В° and –46В° declination. The following stars are part of the constellation; Antares, Acrab (or Elacrab), Dschubba, Sargas, Jabbah, Girtab, Iclill and Alniyat. 2. Orion is a figure from Greek mythology. He was, according to tradition, a good hunter from Thebes and the only person to whom Artemis fell in love. Apollon, approved this love away, and sent a giant scorpion after Orion. In an attempt to escape the monster dived Orion sea and swam towards Delos. Apollo saw, called his sister and pointed at the head of Orion. "See that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The constellation was introduced by the Dutch astronomer Petrus Plancius in the late 16th century. The constellation was named after the phoenix, a creature that is reborn from its own ashes after it dies. Phoenix is a relatively small constellation , but is the largest of the constellations created and named by Plancius. Phoenix can easily be seen in the southern hemisphere summer, but can be viewed very low in the sky in some places in the northern hemisphere. The mythical bird phoenix is known as the sacred fire bird across many mythologies. The phoenix was said to have resembled an eagle with purple, red and gold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Constellation Program One main contributions to today's advanced technology is the satellite. Though the first satellite was sent to space in 1957, people were not able to pick up a satellite connection to their home televisions until 1980. Today, 96.7 percent of Americans have a television in their household, which means 96.7 percent of Americans are using satellite connection ("Ownership of TV 1). Though people may not even think twice about it, satellites play a huge role in today's society. When someone uses their navigator to figure out how to get to the closest Wal–Mart? They are using a satellite. When troops are searching for enemy troops and predicting missile attacks? They are using a satellite. When someone is watching the weather broadcast? They are... Though it took around six years for the Wright brothers to conduct a practical plane, they managed to do so. It started off with just getting an understanding with aerodynamics. Then, that formed into building gliders. Before the world knew it, they had build a full functioning airplane. At a rate like this, the trip to Mars would not seem the least bit bizarre. As of today, there is much talk about a new and improved spacecraft called the Orion. This spacecraft will resemble the design of the original Apollo, but there will be updates in the technology to make it more modern and high–tech. There has been plans to take the Orion spacecraft and a load of passengers to the moon, and even to Mars. If they are successful in doing so, there will be exploration of greater distances and extended stays in space. Instead of only being in outer space for ten days, people will have the ability to stay weeks, and even months out of earth's orbit. Space travel is drifting into a new and more advanced ... An asterism is a prominent pattern or group of stars. The big dipper is a part of constellation Ursa Major. Ursa major is the third largest constellation of all eighty–eight. Ursa Major, the big dipper, has greatest number of stars compared to other constellations. The big dipper asterism is also known as the plough. The big dipper asterism forms less than half of the entire constellation Ursa Major. The big dipper a part of the Ursa Major constellation was discovered in 1869 by astronomer Richard A. Proctor. He realized that all of the big dippers stars except Eta, have proper motions heading toward the constellation Sagittarius. The big dipper within Ursa Major represents "The great bear." • 9. Crux Research Paper My favorite constellation is Crux. I have always been interested in stars, but I have had trouble recognizing constellations. And Crux, or more specifically, the asterism of the Southern Cross, was the first constellation I ever distinguished in the night sky without assistance. I also associate the constellation with the trip that I was on at the time I saw it, since it is not visible from my home. Crux is the smallest constellation, but it is bright and easily seen and recognized with the naked eye. I chose this one because as I stated, it is very famous, and because it is one of those constellations that I have seen many times. Orion is a hunter, so the constellation shows a man holding a club and shield. It is easily recognized by the three stars in a line that form the hunter's belt. The myth of Orion is an interesting one. Orion was known as a hunter in Greek mythology, and he boasted that he could defeat and kill any animal on Earth. This greatly angered Gaea, the earth goddess, so she sent a small scorpion to kill Orion. Unable to shoot his arrows through the scorpion's armor, he ran into the sea to escape. During ... Its location lies 6 degrees north to 33 degrees north and an area of about 506 square degrees. Although the symbol does not appear like a crab but more like an upside–down Y, many believe it to be the back of the crab. Cancer is currently one of the dimmest constellations in the sky. Orion is one of the most prominent and recognizable constellations in the sky and can be seen throughout the world. It is located on the celestial equator. With the introduction of the space shuttle in 1980, however, it has essentially become a transport and shipping company rather than an organization responsible for developing modern technologies to take Americans to Mars and beyond. The space shuttle was a tremendous technological achievement that enabled NASA to send millions of tons of cargo and equipment into low Earth obit, but its successor, the Constellation Program, which relies on rockets and crew capsules much like NASA's early space programs, represents a step backward in space exploration vehicle design ("Propulsion Systems", 2003). It would resume its original vision "to explore the Universe and search for new life, and to inspire the next generation of explorers" ("NASA Mission", 2009). NASA could be relieved of the routine task of sending astronauts and cargo into space by encouraging private companies to develop the next generation of traditional rockets. Companies, such as Boeing, would be able to do the job more efficiently and at a much lower cost than NASA could (Johnsson, 2010). NASA would be able to commission private companies to build rockets that would suit a particular need much like the various branches of the military do for their own vehicles. Once routine, commercial space flights become commonplace, NASA would be free to develop the next generation of space exploration vehicles, which would most likely be based on plasma propulsion technology ("Propulsion Systems", 2003). All of NASA's manpower and funding could be directed towards researching and perfecting these new systems which would allow man to travel to distant worlds at speeds much greater than is possible today. It is the seventh largest constellation in the sky. The 8 named stars are–Markab, Scheat, Algenib, Enif, Homan, Matar, Baham, and Salm. Markab is the brightest star in Pegasus. In Greek mythology, Pegasus was a white winged–horse. The most famous/well known myth involving Pegasus is the one of Bellerophon, the hero who was sent by King Iobates of Lycia to kill the Chimera, a monster that breathed fire and was slaughtering people. Bellerophon found Pegasus and tamed him using a golden bridle given to him by the goddess Athena. Then he swooped down on the Chimera from the sky and killed the monster with his lance and arrows. After this and several other heroic deeds for King Iobates, Bellerophon let the successes get to his head. Riding Pegasus, he tried to fly to Olympus and join the gods. He didn't succeed. He fell off the horse and back to Earth. Pegasus did however make it to Olympus. There, Zeus used the horse to carry his thunder and lightning, and eventually placed him among the constellations. I've chosen this constellation, because it was the first one I found in the sky without anyone else showing it to me. This constellation has a very long history, and may have been recognised and identified by cultures more than 30,000 years ago. In ancient Egypt, this constellation was said to show Osiris, the God of the Dead. Osiris was killed and dismembered by his brother Set, who wanted to usurp his throne. There are three different types precession; axial procession, apsidal precession and nodal precession. Axial procession is defined as the movement of the rotational axis of an astronomical body, through–which the axis slowly traces out a cone–like shape. Apsidal precession brings to light that orbits of planets around the Sun do not really follow the same ellipse each time, but actually trace out a flower–petal shape. Nodal procession is the precession of the orbital plane of a satellite around the rotation axis of an astronomical body such as Earth. Nodal precession is due to the non–spherical ... Another famous constellation is Orion, or 'The Hunter'. I chose to write about Orion because personally I love the story of how his constellation came to be. He is one of the main constellations I always notice in the night sky. The story of Orion is that he was a talented hunter. He was determined to rid the Earth of all wild animals. However this angered Gaia, the Earth goddess. She released a scorpion on Orion. Soon Orion discovered he could not defeat the scorpion and jumped into the sea. Later on Apollo noticed a black spot in the sea and dared Artemis that she could not hit it with her bow and arrow. She stood up to the challenge and hit the... He promised the young girl he would always watch over her with his strong hunting skills and the help of his dogs Canis Major and Canis Minor. Many months had passed as the affection between the two prospered. One day the young girl's father discovered the two in an orchard declaring love for one another. He became enraged and banned the young lovers from continuing this affair. However they still managed. The young girl's mother supported the two and helped them betray the rulings of her father. The mother took the two to a nearby Province and committed them into marriage. The following day the mother explained all of this to the father, hoping to turn around his previous judgement. Without word the father packed the young girl's trunk and shipped her far away from Orion and his love for her. Both lovers were devastated by this new development. • 23. Ancient Greek Constellations Have you ever had one of those days where you'd take a nice walk in the night time and just gaze into the night sky, and when you look up you see a bunch of beautiful stars. Well, if you have taken a closer look you may have noticed that the stars have patterns that create images called constellations. Constellations are a group of stars that are connected together to represent mythological images of animals and objects from the past that is located in the celestial sphere 1, 3. They were mainly discovered by the early people, primarily used as references to coordinate directions, measure time, predict farming seasons, and for religious studies3. As constellations move about one degree per day, they complete a 360 degrees circular motion in a year, making them return back to the same position as they were the year before3. As mentioned earlier the rotation of constellations depends on where you look and your location. For instance, a person who looks up North would tend to realize that the constellations are rotating in the counterclockwise direction around the north celestial pole, which is beside Polaris3. The explanation to why it seems like the constellations are rotating counterclockwise is because the earth spins from west to east, meaning that it is rotating to the right, while the stars and constellations above, moves from east to west3. In contrast, those who face the south, will see the stars rotate clockwise3. For a person who is facing the east will see the stars rise in the front of them and set behind, while a person who faces the west will see the stars rise behind and set in front of them3. Though constellations travel from East to West like the planets, people from different parts of the world will have a different standpoint on the movements of the constellations. Now that we have an understanding of constellations, lets take a look at a few notable ones, starting with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Constellations Constellation From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In modern astronomy, a constellation is an internationally defined area of the celestial sphere. These areas are grouped around asterisms (which themselves are generally referred to in non–technical language as "constellations"), which are patterns formed by prominent stars within apparent proximity to one another on Earth's night sky. There are 88 standard constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) since 1922. The majority of these go back to the 48 constellations defined by Ptolemy in his Almagest (2nd century). The remaining ones were defined in the 17th and 18th century; the most recent ones are found on the southern sky, defined in Coelum australe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
