Lesson from Brazil's defeat at WC-14

1. Business lessons learnt from Brazil’s vs Germany game:
Past successes mean NOTHING - Felipe Scolari (Brazil's Head Coach) and Alberto Parreira (Team
Manager) were both World champion's Head Coaches in 2002 and 1994 with Brazil. They missed the
ALWAYS learning MUST-HAVE-GENS of the 21st century and look with their game tactics in 2014 like 2
species from a MUSEUM (to quote Diego Maradona in his conversation with the paparazzi).
It reflects that Brazil in 2014 has never heard of modern football lessons such as: Ball Control /
Possession Game, Pressing, Overrun the opposition, stretch the opposition, etc...Make sure we
do not rely on the past, always learn and learn and learn as Sachin Tendulkar quotes “You
always need to be a student of the game, as learning never stops”
Nothing is lost until it is really lost: Being patient and focused on the BIG POINTS in all your
challenges. Brazil's defense panicked after Thomas Muller scored the first goal in the 13th
minutes and they lost focus about what their business was: 90 minutes to win a game.
They still had 80 minutes to go and there was no room for panic in the 13th minute but focus on
their action plan rather the first goal resulted in diminishing the confidence of Brazilian
defenders and fans. The heads and shoulder were already low when Germany consecutively
struck twice in less than 3 minutes.
Patience and focus are critical factors to revert a negative course. Always think of buying
yourself Time if you are in trouble and never lose your focus in crunch situations.
Always Have an Action Plan (GERMANY had one): Will always prevail over Emotional
Intelligence (BRAZIL only had that) - May be even the theory of Emotional Intelligence is
simple a CHIMERA. After the game we are assured that Games are never won by emotions they
are won by will, passion and dedications towards the game (work) you love.
Even if you’re playing at your home ground never ever take the opposition for granted.
No matter what you do: if you do not have an Action Plan, you are likely to be in BIG trouble.
