2010!to!inspire!and!empower!a!new!generation!of!creative,!compassionate,!collaborative!
and! cosmopolitan! change! makers! in! Asia.! Targeting! young! people! aged! 16035! (with! the!
majority!in!their!early0mid!20s),!MaD!comprises!an!annual!TED0like!forum!in!January,!an!
entrepreneurship! programme! and! activities! throughout! the! year! in! and! outside! Hong!
Kong.! It! is! a! not0for0profit! public0private0NGO! partnership.! The! Commerce! and! Economic!

3.! The! MaD! Venture! Programme! is! open! to! applications! from! innovative! early! to!
growth!stage!impact!ventures!that!generate!social!and/or!environmental!impact!alongside!
financial! returns.! They! should! be! either! based! in! Asia,! doing! projects! targeting! the! Asia!
market!or!seeking!links!with!Asia.!The!founder!must!be!aged!35!or!below!at!the!time!the!
venture!was!established.!They!must!have!gone!to!market!with!a!track!record!of!at!least!one!
year. They! can! have! different! business! models! with! different! rates! of! investment! return,!
from!social!enterprises!to!for!profit!enterprises!with!a!purpose!and!from!ventures!serving!
the!needs!of!developing!to!developed!countries.!!!

4.!!!!!!! The! 2013! MaD! Venture! Programme! will! be! launched! in! September! this! year.! A!
judging!panel!will!be!formed!with!distinguished!investors,!successful!entrepreneurs!and!
senior!executives!of!large!corporations.!They!will!assess!the!applications!having!regard!
to! the! vision! and! caliber! of! the! management! team,! their! impact,! innovation,!
sustainability! and! scalability.! McKinsey! (HK)! will! help! to! select! up! to! six! finalists! to!
present!their!ventures!at!the!Make%a%Difference%Investment%Salon.!!

5.! ! ! ! ! ! The! Investment! Salon%will! be! a! half0day! event! (draft! programme! annexed),! held!
back!to!back!with!the!MaD!Forum!with!the!following!twin!objectives:!

• To! enhance! understanding! of! and! interests! in! for! purpose! and! values0based!
investment!in!Asia!
• To! provide! a! platform! for! the! MaD% Venture% Programme! delegates! to! meet! and!
learn!from!potential!investors,!mentors!and/or!partners!

6.! We! aim! to! attract! 200! attendees,! comprising! angel! investors,! family! offices,!
foundations,! funds,! wealth! advisors,! corporate! venture! funds,! intermediaries! and!
professionals.!International,!regional!and!local!speakers!will!speak!on!different!aspects!
of! “for! purpose! and! values! based”! investing.! The! judging! panel! and! the! participants! of!
the! Salon! will! vote! to! determine! 3! Make! a! Difference! Venture! Stars,! with! their! votes!
constituting!70%!and!30%!of!the!total!scores!respectively.!!

7.! The!Hong!Kong!Business!Angel!Network,!Hong!Kong!Venture!Capital!and!Private!
Equity! Association,! Association! for! Sustainable! &! Responsible! Investment! in! Asia! and!
