The Stereotypes Of Gypsies And The Crazy Roma
The Romani have been portrayed in a negative manner in a number of films in the 20th century.
Most of these films contain a number of stereotypes about about the Roma which fuels
discrimination and fear of the Roma people. These stereotypes can be seen in mysticism, music and
clothing. They are seen as evil conniving and frightening in films using magic and sorcery to hurt
others. Or they are looked at as mysterious and intriguing. Certain films cast the Roma in a certain
light, so the films in the early 20th century were much more stereotypical than more recent films.
However there are exceptions to this general observation. Films such as Cry of the Werewolf and
Thinner are much more stereotypical than Time of the Gypsies and The Crazy Stranger. Many of
stereotypes that are harmful to the Roma have magical and esoteric themes that put Roma in a
certain light " Gypsies or Roma are one of the minorities frequently represented in film, whenever
we talk about European or American film; within this context Russian and Eastern European cinema
seems to offer the richest palette of portrayals, as in this region Roma represent an important and
controversial minority. Film scholars agreed that from the moment when Roma appeared on screen
and until the last decades when a shift toward a more realistic approach can be detected, their filmic
representations were predominantly stereotypic and highly exoticized." ( Popan Elena Roxana)
However they do actually believe in superstitions

What Time And Sadness Spared Book Summary
Ben–Atar, Roma Nutkiewicz. What Time and Sadness Spared. Charlottesville: University of
Virginia. 2006. 196 pages.
Roma Nutkiewicz's book re–tells events of what she went through from her childhood, leading all
the way up to the end of the Holocaust. Roma shares her personal account of what living in the
Nazi–era was like. Roma explains how in her early years she was just like any other child. She never
saw herself or her family to be different from other communities, because everyone surrounding her
was Jewish. Until World War II started. Not to long after Germans started to move into Warsaw,
Poland where she lived and everything in her life changed. In the beginning it started with curfews,
then she needed her identification cards at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roma's experiences are shocking enough to not only make this book unforgettable for me, but also
made me take the Holocaust more seriously. Rather than another genocide that happened a long time
ago. Doron's use of words painted a very clear picture of what his mother endured. Roma stated "the
person in my body was a stranger I had never met". This quote alone shows me how much the
Holocaust changed her. All dread she felt while in the concentration camps could have been enough
to kill her by itself. She seemed as if she had nothing to push her,yet she survived it all. Which helps
me to understand her thesis. That you are strong enough to do anything. Roma supports her thesis
throughout her whole book. Every word proves her to be right. How she was separated from her
family. When WWII first started and her family had to sleep in the basement to protect themselves
from the bombings. Or when she nursed her friend back to health, after being beat by German
soldiers, just to watch her be executed the next day. Roma's first winter was spent standing outside
in the cold half of the time she was in the Majdanek execution camps. These are all examples of her
thesis, because in the end she did survive. The time that she was in the camps she did not have any
children, and most of her family was dead. So Roma chose to live ultimately for herself, and to help
people understand, if I can survive that Holocaust then I am strong enough to do anything, and so
are you. Roma created an astonishing book that I truly will never

Hardy Gypsies Research Paper
The culture of the Roma gypsies The Roma gypsies, also known as Roma, Romani or gypsies, are
people of Indian origin who are now settled all over the world. The migration, which commenced
sometime in the 9th century, shows that the Roma people migrated from Indian sub–continent
following two distinct paths, namely, the Central Asian route and the Northern African route
(Romanian Family Health Initiative, 2007).
Nomadic nature of the Roma gypsies Gypsies are nomads (Leeson, 2013). The nomadic nature
seems to be a central point of departure that defines the gypsy way of life. Although, the modern
Roma people no longer travel in caravan and have blended in with the locals, the sense of
independence through travel still is reflected in their way of life (Romanian Family Health Initiative,
2007), for example, many Roma men choose occupations that lets them travel and be on the road
(Matras, 2000).
Social organization
Roma society lacks traditional hierarchy or structure (Leeson, 2013). Roma people live as a large
group comprising of extended family members as a single unit. A typical Roma family would
consist of parents, their children and spouses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To a non–gypsy or gaje, the law would seem like a list of taboos (Matras, 2011). The gypsy law is
based on the principle of cleanliness of the body and the spirit. It elaborates on the concepts of
melyardo (physically soiled) and marime (morally soiled). Marime or mahrime (parts exisiting
below the waistline) is portrayed as being contagious and vujo or uźo (the parts above the waistline)
as being the most pious. Several day–to–day activities, customs and traditions are based on these
core values (Leeson, 2013; Matras, 2011). The attire must be worn in two parts that separate the

The Romani Language : The Language Of Inflected Romani
The Romani Language The culture of the Roma, otherwise known as gypsies, encases many cultural
values and traditions separate from that of Western culture. A factor of their culture includes their
language, which can be defined as a system of publicly shared symbols by which individuals share
private experiences. The Roma's language of inflected Romani, created after from linguistic
divergence of the Indo–European proto language, is able to meet all the properties of language as
well as being interrelated with their culture. Romani allows gypsies to be able to preserve their
culture when they are dispersed around the world, while upholding their beliefs because of how they
think through the lense of language. Romani, being the language most commonly spoken by the
Roma, is very different throughout Europe. Since the Roma have diffused in many locations,
different dialects have developed based on the languages surrounding them and how they are
acculturated or if they choose to assimilate. Due to the lack of a state committed to the culture of the
Roma, many people within these communities adapt and pick up the language commonly spoken in
the country in which they have settled. Overtime, a shift in values has lead to a cultural view that
has western or other european views infused into that of the Roma's culture. This leads to the need
for code switching within their society because of the language difference between the people of
Roma culture and the language of the country

What Is A Policy Memo: Roma People In Hungary
Policy Memo: Roma People in Hungary The Roma people have lived in Hungary for several
centuries, but they still face discrimination in their minority status. And, Lack of participation in
political, economic, and social activities has a negative impact in their lives. As the result, Policies
geared towards empowerment of the Romany should be formulated and implemented. The Roma
people, also known as the gypsies, settled in Hungary more than 500 years ago from the Indian sub–
continent (Crowe 179). Integration in the Hungarian society has been faced a big challenge since
they are perceived as the minority and live a semi–nomadic life. They are discriminated against

Ethnic Culture and Culture of Poverty: the Gypsy/Roma Essay
Peter Szuhay asked in "Constructing a Gypsy National Culture" whether the Gypsies are an ethnic
culture or a culture of poverty. I would like to argue that the Gypsy identity is a product of
traditional ethnic culture as well as the product of a marginalized social stratum. There are many
aspects of gypsy ethnic culture to which can be contributed to the result of marginalization and
sometimes those same ethnic cultural traits become stereotypes to which society justifies their
stigmatization and poverty. Thus emerges a pattern of both ethnic and social traits being
interdependent, intertwined and self–perpetuated. The intersection of the two conflicting cultures
can be seen in the following statement made by many and is commonly ... Show more content on

Often Romany families who are poor will avoid the schools, and if they do send the children to
school they have trouble going regularly as well as being socially accepted by the teacher and his
classmates. (Sigler 7) A majority of these children are not able to advance further in their education
because they fail to neither pass biased exams nor be fluent enough in the language of the state.
Thus they are either held back or send to a special school and later end up at a trade school. In this
case, the distinct language that distinguishes their ethnic culture also serves as a handicap to the
children, perpetuating their social immobility and continues to stigmatize into a culture of poverty.
In Miriam Lee Kaprow's study of the Gitanos in Spain she found that the only cultural characteristic
to which she can distinguish a Gypsy from a local is through something she call the "essence of the
Gypsy." This essence is their "flair" and the "sheer energy with which they embarked on
everything." (Willems 5) Agnes Daroczi describes the Gypsies' "knack for living from day to day"
and value of "feeling good" is the same characterization for an ideal ethnic cultural trait that is
unique and shared among the diverse Gypsy communities all across Europe

Roma And Non Roma People
The Romani People commonly known as Roma, Gypsies or Travelers account for around 11 million
people scattered across Europe today, mostly in the Eastern European states. They have been
persecuted and discriminated against due to large cultural differences since their arrival to Europe.
The post–1989 transition from communism in Eastern Europe created a huge ethnic underclass of
Roma who by many measures such as political, social, and economic, have the lowest status of any
ethnic group in Eastern Europe. This has led to large socioeconomic gaps between Roma and non–
Roma people. Europe is finally starting to realize what a large problem this gap is causing and
certain agencies and governments of states where there is a larger population of Roma have begun to
take action to better integrate the Roma people into society. These initiatives are striving to increase
employment, education, welfare and other aspects of life for the Roma people and to break the
destructive cycle of poverty, unemployment, lack of education, and loss of hope that has set in for
many East European Roma. There has been much debate over the origins of the Roma people.
Originally thought to have been from Egypt, they were given the name Gypsies. After extensive
research into their language, it is now thought that the Roma people migrated from India to Eastern
Europe approximately 600 years ago. The Roma 's migration from India was largely dependent on
geography. It is believed that they traveled through

Persecution: The Destruction Of The Roma Culture
The beginnings of persecution come from hatred. Hatred comes from the growth of fear. People for
time immemorial have been devastated by the growth of rampant fear that's projected onto their
race, religion, ethnicity, and culture. Under the Soviet Block, the Roma people were subject to harsh
persecution and demonization as a result of their society that was not compatible with the
communist regime. In Czechoslovakia this fear almost caused the destruction of an entire people, a
culture, a way of life. The outcome of this persecution was widespread destruction of the Roma
culture within Czechoslovakia, and had it been allowed to continue, potentially lethal. Roma people
came under intense scrutiny from both the government and the citizens ... Show more content on

Jaroslav Sus, writer of The Gypsy Question in the CSSR, claimed that the communists were
justified in attempting assimilation of the Romani into Czechoslovakian culture because the Romani
language was, "discordant, stagnant, without written form and therefore without a future, invented
by thieves and criminal elements," (HRW, 11). His claim, that a language spoken by at least 100,000
people was dangerous, could not have been justified had the Roma people not been the subject of
hatred in the past. Sus claimed that the Roma were, "thieves and criminal elements," (HRW, 11),
appealing to the citizens of Czechoslovakia to protect themselves from the possibility of a perceived
criminal element rising to a position of power. Sus further discredits the Roma by stating, "Gypsies
are not a nation, a nationality and in view of the objective conditions of their existence...cannot ever
in the future obtain either the status of nationality or national minority," (HRW, 11), leading to a
widespread belief that the Roma people are inferior to the people of Czechoslovakia due to a
language that is "scattered" and "without law". Through these actions, we can see the many ways the
regime worked to discredit the Roma language and culture and refused to recognize them as a
national minority. Citing Romani people as "outsiders" that threatened the autonomy of the nation
and the communist regime, they

How Do Mainstream Media Portray Roma People?
First of all, based on the information found during the research, it can be seen that mainstream
media portray Roma people in France and Romania in a neutral or negative way, and rarely in
positive way. Regardless of the news about Romani is positive of negative, there seems to be more
coverage when specific circumstances occur, for instance, crime. As of 2010, both the mainstream as
well as alternative media was focusing mainly on the expulsion of Roma from France by former
France's president Sarkozy. This has even gone outside the France's national media into international
media sites such as The New York Times, BBC, CNN, etc. The expulsion against Roma
communities by the French government have caught a lot of attention by the media and sparked a
discussion within France. A poll carried out by Pew Research Centre (2014) shows that 66% of the
French inhabitants have an unfavourable view towards Roma. The assumption of the public that

For news sites the deportation issue can be seen as good and in a way shocking story as European

often based on the society's general and negative perception of Roma; therefore resulting in articles
that are negative and sometimes even discriminatory and offensive towards Roma people all around
the world, including in Romania and France. It can be said that media are a powerful tool to mirror

The Roma And Its Impact On Today 's Society
The Roma people also known throughout history as "gypsies" or "travelers", have had a tremendous
impact on today's society. Today, there are approximately 12 million to 15 million Romani people
throughout the world. The Roma's history is very complex; they have experienced throughout
history exclusion, discrimination, and persecution. The majority of the Romani people in today's
society live in Western Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The social and
political organization of this group has a traditional, complex way of life. In their traditional
economic culture, the Roma all have very similar occupations that consist mostly in the fields of
entertainment, crafts, and trading. Religious practices vary with the Roma. All these component's tie
into the way the Roma people live which in some ways is very similar to ours.
The Roma history is vast and complex; the Romani people have been on this world for over a
thousand of years. In those years, they received discrimination, persecution, and exclusion. Through
most of their history, the Roma were typically classified in a social hierarchy as the "untouchables"
or the "undesirables". It has been said that the Romani people originated in India. As early as the
fifteenth century, was the exodus of the Romani people of India. It is claimed that they moved out of
India due to war and military invasion of India. I understand and sympathize the reason to move

The Roma people of Europe have descended from India about 1,000 years ago and arrived in the
European Union in the 14th Century .The history and circumstances of the Roma population today
is influenced due to the ideas that surround migration and nomadism. The Roma have been
associated with "nomadism" because some Roma groups are still wandering groups predominantly
in Romania (Cahn & Guild, 2010). The Roma are the biggest ethnic minority in the European Union
and it is estimated that there are about 10 million Roma across Europe. It is due to their Nomadic
culture that the Roma are poorly incorporated in the European Union and face issues of Poor
education, unemployment, health issues etc. Historically the gypsies were considered a ... Show

Due to these reasons the figures for early school leavers in Roma communities are always above
national averages. According to statistics on an average in the year 2011, only one out of two Roma
children surveyed attended kinder garden while a low 15 percent of Roma adults surveyed
completed upper–secondary education. (UNDP, n.d.)
This problem of Illiteracy combined with the lack of skills transferable in today's labour market lead
to prospects of finding proper employment difficult. According to a study in 2011, the Roma
population is involved four times more than the non Roma in the informal sector and less than one
third of Roma have employment that is paid. (UNDP, n.d.)Roma children are also forced to engage
in child labour in order to make an income to support the family. (The situation of Roma in 11 EU
member states , 2012) . This situation of unemployment of the Roma leads to one the biggest
problems suppressing them that are poverty. The Roma face severe material deprivation and the
difference between in Roma and non Roma in poverty are higher in France and Italy. (The situation
of Roma in 11 EU member states , 2012). High rates of unemployment causes these Roma migrants
to be considered illegal immigrants and get expelled as well , especially citizens from Romania and
Bulgaria who are subject to the same laws as those of the non–EU citizens which states that they

Roma And Ethnic Identity
1. Why do some Roma hide their ethnic identities? Some Roma hide their ethnic identities because it
can be dangerous and bad for their business because of the stereotyping that goes along with being a
Roma. Also, depending on the community, they may be threatened, attacked, or discriminated again.
2. What challenges did the Roma face in different parts of the world? The Roma face a variety of
challenges in different parts of the world. When the Roma moved to Western Europe, people took
away their history by twisting what it truly meant to be Roma. They also tried to destroy the Roma
culture. In Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Roma were stoned by the citizens of Halifax simply because of
their ethnicity. The Roma then traveled to Australia, South Africa, Tasmania, Buenos Aires, and
back to England. They traveled because they were not accepted as citizens in any of these countries.
When they returned to England, they found that a lot of the Roma had settled down because they
couldn't take the abuse. When Julia lived in a small village in Scotland her family was the target for
racism. Local people would vandalize their home and kill their dogs. One day, Julia was playing
outside with her sister when a young man threw a brick at her head that spilt her head open. When
her sister tried to help her, they beat her with a pipe. In Spain the Roma were fighting against the
fascists. Lolo, who joined an Anti–Fascists movement when he lived in Spain, was tortured for ten
days and ten nights.

Roma Culture Research Paper
Abstract
This paper explore the Roma culture with focus on women's health practices. Roma also referred to
as Rom, Rroma, Romani and gypsies are people traveled across the Middle East and Europe, with
some later settling in the United States. Known for their nomadic lifestyle, they are often
marginalized and discriminated against. Roma have strong cultural beliefs with many focusing on
the importance of family and purity. Many aspects of pregnancy are considered impure and
shameful. Many women do not have appropriate prenatal care. The lack of appropriate care coupled
with unhealthy lifestyle choices associated with the Roma can lead to a myriad of pregnancy
complications. The Roma culture is very specific and it is important to provide culturally competent
care. This paper helps focus on aspects to provide better care for this unique culture.

Roma Gypsies And The Concentration Camps
By 1940, Roma gypsies were rounded up and made to live in encampments. These in time became
fenced in ghettos. From these ghettos, many were transported by train to detention camps to await
deportation. They were forced to wear black triangle markings for being asocial or a green triangle
for being professional criminals. Besides being treated as in the camps, they were also subjected to
multiple medical experiments, including "special experiments that were supposed to prove
scientifically that their blood was different from German blood." Many of the gypsy women were
sterilized against their will, which included any female child over the age of twelve. This was done
so they would not be able to continue their ancestral line, thought to be impure inferior and
worthless. Most Roma gypsies were exterminated in the camps. Roma gypsies also endured the
holocaust not only in concentration camps, but also in other parts of Europe. France, Croatia and
Romania all sent gypsies to either Nazi concentration camps or deported them to the Ukraine. Many
of them died of disease and starvation once reaching the Ukraine. It is estimated that between
500,000 and 600,000 Roma gypsies died as a result of the holocaust. Anton Fojn, a Roma gypsy

The Roma In Germany: An Analysis
After a quasi–period of forgetfulness, the abolition of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, and the
assimilation of certain Roma (later to be known as Sinti), some of the Balkan and Vlax Roma
migrated to Germany after being emancipated in Romania. This new influx would initiate further
persecution when Otto von Bismarck in 1886 ordered all non–German citizens to be removed from
German lands. In Munich on March 1899, an "Information Service on Gypsies" was established by
the Security Police in the Imperial Police Headquarters that identified and fingerprinted Gypsy
nomads who were viewed as pariahs. In one response to this, an officer of the Munich police, Alfred
Dillman wrote Zigeuner–Buch a detailed account of the genealogical traits of the Roma in Germany.

This same year would also see the publication of Karl Binding (a jurist) and Alfred Hoche's (a

for killing mentally ill patients. In 1922, Professor Hans Gunther wrote Rassenkunde des Deutschen
Volkes, which appealed to this racial superiority of the German blood and would go on to give Hitler
a doctrine in which to adhere to for his eugenics plan. A conference held in Bavaria during 1925
discussed the "Gypsy Question" which elevated the Gypsy nuisance to a Gypsy problem and this
same rhetoric would be used over the course of the Nazi regime with the aim of splintering and
destroying the Roma. On July 16th, 1926, a Bavarian law decreed for Combatting Gypsies,
Vagabonds, and Work Shy, which required all Gypsies to officially register themselves to the
government. Those unable to work were forced into penal labor for up to two years. The following
year in Bavaria they would increase infractions by a permanent police surveillance of all Roma. In

Persecution Of Jews And Aryans In Germany
As well as the Roma, Jews were not permitted to have sexual intercourse with Aryans.
"...miscegenation became a criminal offense and sexual intercourse between Aryans and their racial

Bársony that both Roma and Jews were excluded from having sexual intercourse with Aryans.
Hence showing the Nazi perspective over the threat of these two ethnicities to Aryans and how far
Nazis going to achieve the pure Aryan society they aspired . Overall, this two statements about the
Nuremberg laws show how the Jews and Roma persecution mirror each because both are being
targeted in the same way by the Nuremberg laws.
The Nazis had Jews as the primary enemy of the state, explicitly stating their disdain to the Jews ,

Jews as a German citizen or part of the future German Volksgemeinschaft. However, in this 25–

persecution differ. Reinforcing this point, according to Guenter Lewy, "...no overall plan for the
extermination of the Gypsy people was ever formulated..." By this information, Lewy is stating that
although the Roma people did suffer persecution this was not done in a high scale compared to the
Jewish persecution which had a strategic, pragmatic plan. This is because the Jews were seen more
threatening than the Roma. One speculation for this is that Hitler himself, when he was

he goes into local folklore to give historical context about the Romani genealogy presence in Svinia
by using birth and death records to describe the first Roma couple to migrate to Slovak. To support
his argument, Scheffel richly describes the Roma primitive huts, deplorable living arrangements
without electricity and plumbing, illiteracy, demeaning work such as feeding pigs or shoveling

Scheffel believed his snippets of evidence illustrated the reluctance of the Roma to embark on

perplexing is when Scheffel explains, the Roma settlement is denied support from the government,

how could the onus be on the Romas to cultivate the bonds that linked them with their white
neighbors (213)? Scheffel calls the people he claimed to bond with for over ten years "a careless
society" (220). "The Roma must therefore, break through the walls of the ghetto and claim their
rightful place in the village proper" (223). Still, Scheffel doesn't have a solution on how this could
be done especially when he has observed the "white" villagers of Svinia sense of entitlement; and
agrees the "black" Roma settlers could do little but accept their inferior status and the constant

little to no advance notice or suitable alternative accommodation. In addition, an inordinate amount
of Roma children in the Czech Republic are enrolled in third–rate educational facilities called
"practical schools"; institutions intended exclusively for pupils with mild developmental disabilities.
Due to its less–aggressive curricula, students attending these schools rarely advance to secondary
education and face abysmal job prospects upon graduation. An estimated 30% of Romani children in
the Czech Republic were educated in practical schools, as opposed to only 2% of non–Roma
children (Human Rights of Roma and Travelers in Europe 18). Europe's inequitable denial of
inclusive housing and education to its Roma populous not only traps them in cyclic poverty, but also
fortifies social stigma and negative perception on the local level. The resistive anti–Roma sentiment
in Europe has resonated in the public's consciousness deeply enough to provoke a disconcerting
wave of pogrom–like hate crimes. Despite a far–reaching lack of reporting and disaggregated data
on violence against Roma, a study conducted in 2009 found that 32% of all surveyed Roma in the

Morality In Roma And Greece
Roma and Greece treated guilt more active than Christian. Nietzsche differentiated the morality
between Roma, Greece and Christian. He also found that the nature of Roma and Greece was brutal

Roma Diversity
The diversity of this minority group can be said to be their most characteristic feature. While often
conceptualized as one homogenous group, the Roma consist of a multitude of various sub–groups,
which carry with them their own practices, beliefs, and often, language (Filcak 2007, page 63–64).
Although incredibly diverse in traditions and culture, the Roma are joined by a common thread of
kinship. While conventional society is predominantly spatially bound, the Roma people do not bind
themselves to spatial or ethnic terms, but rather to kinship and family. Members of a particular kin
group avoid social contact with other non–family members, considering only members of their clan
to be 'ritually pure'. The unity and homogeneity ascribed by others does not serve to foster a sense of

This often means plentiful travel to other settlements. Engagement with not–of–kin is actively
avoided. One frequently finds a higher level of cooperation between one family of Roma people and
individuals or groups from the non–Roma majority, than can be found between two families living
in the same settlement (ibid). This strong familial allegiance provides the basis for understanding the
incredible difficulties that are faced in regards to politically representing this minority. While
structured and organized in their own right, their system of social organization and governance falls
short when it comes to compatibility with the greater Slovak state. As a contemporary government,
legal policy and regulation is established and decided upon in a spatially oriented way.
Municipalities or local councils make decisions that best represent the people who live within their
bounds. Sharing limited common interests or identities, the multiple kin groups that comprise a
settlement lack the characteristics of a unified community, and therefore fail to express their unified

Literature Review On Gypsies
Literature Review:
This marginalized group of society basically faces the consequences of inequality. Different
researches have been undertaken by different researchers. Jessica redy wrote in her article about the
origin of gypsies, highlighting the richness of this vibrant and normally misunderstood ethnic group.
According to her many Roma are imbibed today, some because of the financial support to hide their
ethnicity and others because the culture was muffled long ago by genocide or political tragedy,
while others quietly preserve their heritage in the privacy of their own homes. If they are not preys
of racist reporting then they are victims of poverty. There are glimpses of Roma being pushed into
slums by government, roaming barefoot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weather it is economical sector, educational sector, or health sector, they are deliberately exempted
from the basic needs provided by afore mentioned sectors. Identity chaos is the major dilemma of
their life, which leads to other societal evils. Knowingly or unknowingly these people are deprived
of even basic needs of life. This discriminatory attitude of society as well as authorities as led them
to wrongfully think that they deserve the life they are living. The mysterious circumstances of
gypsies are caused by the abys gap between these communities and government. Their children are
bound to labor because of impossibility of the elders to work due to failure of showing their real
identity, due to which they cannot get a proper job and have to rely upon meager income. Due to
lack of formal education they do not have awareness to descent norms of society; they even
considered the legal judicial system bogus. The concept of polygamy is common among them,
without considering the just treatment for each wife, they even do not know the total number of their
children, which is a screaming testimony of their irresponsible attitude toward their families. These
attitudes make them unacceptable for the society, which leads to their marginalization. Many
gypsies teach their children the traditional music and dance of the Gypsy people, but literacy is not
highly valued. This means that Gypsies cannot respond articulately to the negative stereotypes that
are circulated in the media of the countries they

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard versus AS Roma's Francesco Totti
Drawing comparisons between the career trajectories of Liverpool's talismanic captain Steven
Gerrard and AS Roma's patriarch Francesco Totti is an inevitable prospect. Both were passionate
childhood fans of their "native" football clubs. Both were recruited into their club academies at a
very tender age. Both have risen through the ranks and established themselves as the heart and soul
of their club. And both have consistently led from the front and guided their clubs to football glory.
However, the strongest bond that exists between the two is their relentless, unmitigated devotion to
their beloved club. The common thread that binds Totti and Gerrard together is their unique ability
to stand by their clubs through thick and thin.
But the past few years have been particularly painful for the aficionados of Roma and Liverpool.
Totti and Gerrard have seen their club slip down their respective domestic league tables in recent
years owing to the dominance of their cross country rivals. Both Roma and Liverpool have failed to
qualify for the UEFA Champions League since the 2010–2011 and 2009–2010 seasons respectively.
Their continued absence from Europe's premier football cup competition has severely tarnished their
image and dented their aspirations of attracting the big name players to their clubs which their
domestic rivals have been successfully able to do so.
While Roma occupied a lowly 6th spot in the Italian Serie A in 2012–13, Liverpool was left

Explain Why Did Hitler Persecute So Many People
Why did Hitler persecute so many people? What did he do and who all did he persecute? During the
Holocaust, Hitler persecuted not only the Jews, but many other groups too. He viewed all these
people as "racially inferior," and wanted to rid the population of them ("Genocide of European
Roma (Gypsies) 1939–1945"). The Nazis went to extremes to persecute many people including
Roma, handicap/mentally ill, and many other minorities.
To begin, Roma (Gypsies) were targeted and persecuted by the Nazis. Described by United States
Holocaust Museum, Roma were treated just as rough as the Jews. Many were put in forced labor
camps and tens of thousands were mass murdered. Roma were put in "segregated sections called
Gypsy camps." These sections were in the same camps Jews were in. Close to half of Roma died
within their first month in a concentration camp due to harsh conditions. The rest were believed to

numbers of victims mentioned by USHMM. Amid these Poles the Nazis killed were "political

What Is The Romanichal?
The Romanichal, also known as "gypsies", are a community of people that originally lived in the
countries of Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe and also have migrated to Western Europe in
around 1000AD. They were considered nomadic people because they often moved around and
found jobs wherever they migrated to but not jobs that paid a lot of money. They often took jobs
dealing with scrap metal, cars and other commodities. They also made a living doing seasonal
agricultural work, casual laboring, and hawking and begging to name a few. The Roma language is
the most visible display of the beginning of the Roma people. The language is intimately linked to
current languages of early central and northern India. While many researchers have tried to find

According to Yaron Matras author of Roma Culture: An Introduction, Most Roma communities have
complicated and highly codified mourning rituals that involve congregating with representatives of
other families from the same 'nation' or ethnic sub–group for a wake that may last several days,
avoiding cooked food and greetings, and commemorations at regular intervals until one year after
the burial. There is a certain dress code for the mourning families to wear to the funeral, and
sometimes the Roma choose to avoid a certain food to eat for a year in respect for their lost one.
"Once the mourning period has ended, however, the proximity to the dead is considered as literally
haunting and as a disturbance of the separation between life and death", explains Matras. Some
Roma cultures would avoid returning to the location in which a close relative has died or often burn
personal belongings to erase the memories. It was sometimes customary back then for the Roma

The Roma, (or Gypsies, as most call them), are intricate, interesting, vastly different, and intriguing
group of differing people with a lot of things in common including a surprising fears: frogs and

people attitudes and behaviors to follow with an arrangement of the society. The Roma culture fits
this definition because they have many myths and traditional supernatural beliefs they fall back on
to know how to act. The culture does not have a set religion because of so much variety in their

Research Paper On Gypsies
"The Gypsy has three truths; one with me, one with you, and the third with himself" a Ukrainian
saying about the Gypsy life style. Portrayed for centuries as a lying, thieving and sinning group the
gypsy have been discriminated against by most nations. Gypsy have endured slavery, being burned
at the stake, being sent to concentration camps and being forced migration to start the list of terrors
the group have endured. Most cities and nations do not treat Gypsies as equals and have a history of
suffering. People know little about the Gypsies and if he/she does not know their history they are
doomed to repeat it causing the Gypsies to continue to suffer. After many pleas to the courts Gypsies
seem to be losing their battle for rights, Having been forced to migrate all over Europe the gypsy
have never had a true home.
There are over seven million people currently classified as Roma. Simply being Roma is not easy
and many possible Roma have a self–identity problem. Being Europe's largest minority many would
believe the Gypsies would be treated in a good manner. That is not the case most countries do not
even consider Roma to be an ethnicity. For this and many other reasons the Roma mistrust the
authority. The mistrust is mutual and the Europeans have not felt the Roma fit in with the rest of
Europe. Originally thinking the Gypsies were spies for Muslim countries during the crusades,
Europeans never accepted them. For their own good the children of any Roma person were taken

Roma Stereotypes
While reading and listening to the interview I learned a ton form Isabel Fonseca. I always knew
there was a stereotype placed on the Roma/gypsy societies, I had no clue how segregated they still
are today. The Roma people are treated very poorly in the majority of Europe, because they are
uneducated and different. But by segregating the Roma and not allowing them in our schools they
wont ever be able to better them self's and blend better into society. Roma society's deal with
stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination which I am going to discuss in this paper. First the Roma
society's deal with people stereotyping them into one lump. People see them as uneducated, but
partially we are to blame because we wont allow them to merge into our society. Due to them being
uneducated they live in poverty. Gypsies are stereotyped as being poor, due to this we treat them
poorly regardless if we know if they are poor or not. Last we also treat them differently and define
them by the way they dress. But by us stereotyping them we are taking away their opportunities to
better themselves. Second the Roma society's deal with prejudice everyday. For example, in the

The Manifestations Of Organized Crime Among Roma
The Manifestations of Organized Crime Among Roma in Romania
Abstract – Organized crime captures the attention of the entire society, generating insecurity and
fear among citizens. When talking about organized crime, especially among the Roma, although the
terminology refers to extremely serious criminal deeds, initially we are tempted to think about the
frequent methods used to sensitize that the Roma people abuse of: begging, marketing of products or
metalworking. The sense of security among citizens is becoming less and less common. And as the
theme dealt with in this paper refers to organized crime among the Roma – which leads us to think
about a cause of insecurity in today 's society – we will make a general analysis of the ... Show more

"Beccaria, Quetelet and Lombrosso admit the essential abnormality of the criminal behavior: each
advocates its eradication in his own way, indicating the approach that is, in each point of view, the
most effective in fulfilling this task. Firstly, the solution is to build a criminal law based on
democratic principles and reason. Secondly, it is important to find the social causes of delinquency
in order to direct the actions of the public authorities towards the "moralizing" of the offenders.
Lastly, crime is a pathological conduct, and it must be cured on the basis of individual treatment
which only uses in certain cases the instruments of law "(Ogien, 2002, p. 21).
The offense of establishing an organized criminal group is a criminal offense of a particular gravity,
which is punished with up to 10 years of imprisonment, depending on the gravity of the offenses for
which the group was formed. Moreover, when the purpose for which the group was formed is
reached, the conjuncture of offenses will result in a higher penalty.

The Breville Roma ESP8XL Esspresso Machine Case Study
The Breville Cafe Roma ESP8XL Espresso Machine is a very good mid–range machine for home
espresso enthusiasts. The machine means business and will stand up to regular daily use. This is
immediately evident when you see the machine with its substantial stainless steel body housing. You
can count on a very high quality espresso each and every time without a lot of confusing settings
and controls. I use mine (yes I own one and have for approximately one year) around 5 times a
week. The Cafe Roma has taken its place as my "go–to" machine and it has yet to disappoint.
The Cafe Roma's pump maintains 15 bar pressure, which is more than enough for authentic
espresso. Breville's says their dual wall portafilter enhances the crema production and the espresso's
flavor. Breville's thermo block heating system maintains the water temperature at the correct level.
You can't make great espresso without adequately controlled pressure and water temperature, so
while there is little in the way of technical data on these two systems they appear to be doing the job
well based on the results.
There are three separate inserts included for the portafilter. These inserts allow you to make either a
double shot or single shot or as an alternative to use a coffee pod. Having the choice to use a pod is a
feature I appreciate. I don't use them often, but I appreciate having the ability for certain times when
I discover a really good pod product or if I am in a hurry. I've had good results when I have used
them in this machine, and it takes standard ESE pods. It is easy to tell the inserts apart from each
other because they are all clearly marked on the bottom.
Operating this machine is very simple and the controls are efficient and understated. Brew time and
volume are managed by the operator, as they are on all semi–automatics. The front panel of the
machine has 2 very simple controls and the whole process can be completed one handed. The red
power light and orange heating light both illuminate when you flip the power button. Once the
machine is ready, the heating signal goes out and you just turn the large knob to either the left for
steaming/frothing, or to the right for brewing. I can't think of a way they could have made this

The Remotely Operated Mechanical Astronaut Essay example
The Remotely Operated Mechanical Astronaut, or ROMA, is the next step forward in robotic Extra–
Vehicular Activity, or EVA, assistance. Simply put, it is, as the name implies, a robotic astronaut
stand–in operated by an astronaut inside the International Space Station, or ISS. ROMA's simplicity
of design incorporates numerous amounts of hardware and software already in use to create a single,
versatile robot to heighten safety and lessen the amount of time it takes to complete an EVA. The
brilliance of ROMA is that its design uses technology already in use and molds it together into a
singular, adaptable machine capable of doing numerous tasks. For instance, the idea for a free–

ROMA's innovations and versatility allows it to help with any phase of the construction process.
Speaking of recycling hardware, ROMA's control systems are derived from the same technology
used to train astronauts for EVAs. Similar to this training equipment, the controller wears
specialized sleeves along with a virtual reality helmet that remotely controls ROMA so that the
robot mimics his (or her) movements, while the astronaut sees what the robot sees (Gilman, 2010).
Thus the training for the use of ROMA is relatively simple: astronauts will continue using the virtual
reality training systems that are currently in use, just more in depth. Also, since astronauts currently
in space already have a minimal amount of this type of training, there will be no need for them to
learn something new. To use ROMA, astronauts will put on the arm remote control sleeves, the
virtual reality control helmet, strap on the movement control joystick, and go to work. To maneuver
ROMA, the astronaut operates the joystick, which moves not only forwards, backwards, left, and
right, but also up and down to allow for free range of motion in all directions. When the astronaut
does this, ROMA's hands also move to the front, causing the center of gravity to stabilize and
ROMA to be easier to maneuver. Once ROMA undocks and reaches the desired destination, the
astronaut manipulates the arms by moving his own. ROMA's

The Roma people have been underappreciated for many years. Due to the way they were treated that

society despite the many hatred acts from other civilizations. The Roma people have educated
children in a very culturally different way that many cultures and civilizations. From their schooling

other cultures. Looking into the Roma culture, you will find that close to half of Roma children
attend any type of public school. This low number has evolved from the discrimination of their

Roma before Pax Romana
Values a society share with its citizens are not only different from one society to another, but also
characterize the society because values mold morality. For example, America shares value of
freedom, individuality, and competition among her people, and those values make America and
American morals different from morals of other countries, such as Soviet Union. Just like any other
societies throughout history, Rome had a set of values that were particular to Romans; of course,
some of the values had changed, and others remained in course of Roman history. During the time
of Augustus, when bloody civil war finally ended, Augustus decided to focus on three values:
patriotism, piety, and family, which all act together to prosper the Roman Empire. Vergil, through
his epic, probes beginning of Rome and values of Romans not only of ancient time, but also of
contemporary time to Vergil. Through contrast of Aeneas and Dido in patriotism and piety, Vergil
takes side of Dido and criticizes Aeneas, who is epitomize values during Roman empire, implying
that Vergil himself holds doubts on values set by Augustus. To start, Vergil uses Aeneas, a patriotic
hero, to cast doubt on patriotism: is patriotism all that important? Aeneas is without a doubt a
patriotic figure: he tries to protect falling Troy, deeply mourns for loss of his home after the fall of
Troy, and undertakes the mission to set another great empire (Vergil, Book II). Even though he has

There are, however, five main points that all Roma have adopted. These are loyalty to family, a
belief in God and the acknowledgement of the devil, a listing of standards and norms followed by
the tribe members, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions from migrating (Patrin). They also
all have a high level of respect for the elderly among their tribe, and put strict regulations on their
unmarried women. Also, the different dialects of the Roma seem to have stemmed from one source,
which is considered to be Punjabi or Hindi. Whatever tradition the different groups of Roma may
have, they all hold on to these traditions and are still put into play today. For example, the Roma
women are married young, usually around twelve or thirteen, and the marriages are arranged
according to the ties or in an attempt to strengthen ties between two families (Wikipedia). Gypsy
communities can be found all over the world. Gypsies were even among the earliest settlers in the
Americas because the European government began rounding up entire Gypsy communities and
deporting them to the Americas. Gypsies were also deported earlier in history for the purpose of
serving as slaves. The Gypsies were dispersed all throughout the Americas leaving behind them an
impact on the native's culture. For example, many of Jamaica's folktales have a Gypsy theme to
them. Another example would be how some slang words in Latin America have Gypsy origins.

My recommendation would be to sample years that are passed 2002 and on to get a more accurate
result for the study. I felt like there was so much going on with testing before and after the events
took into effect. Even though it was a good size of sample and enough quarters from where to gather
information from the time frame plays an important role. The Regulation Fair Disclosure that took
place in October 23, 2000 made a great impact towards the way information was not allowed to be
disclosed. I feel that it took an effect on the results since the information was gathered that year and
was dealing with information asymmetry. In Li, Ha and Nabar (2014) they conclude that there is a
difference that exists between pre and post regulation fair disclosure. The authors mention how the
stock prices after the fact were more precise in relation to stock splits than before regulation fair
disclosure took place. Also, with Sarbanes Oxley Act taking effect in 2002 could also have more
managers disclosing information more voluntarily than before it took effect. In Aftermath (2015) he
states that SOX arose because of the number of scandals that had taken place. So, with this said it
shows how the disclosing of information is important and now that it is implemented will help in
lowering the risk of having unreliable information. On another note as for the equations that were

The Holocaust has been studied a vast majority of times being one of the most crucial events in

or minorities that were a threat to their state. The most persecuted race was the Jews and being the
race which get the most importance, still the Roma were also one of the most persecuted races.

December 1938. It shows how the Nazis wanted to exterminate the Roma as they are looking for a
method or solution to the Roma people living in Germany. This mirrors the persecution of the Jews,
who also needed to be eradicated. As well it shows how the Roma were victims of the "Gypsy

Roma Stereotypes In Film

  • 1. The Stereotypes Of Gypsies And The Crazy Roma The Romani have been portrayed in a negative manner in a number of films in the 20th century. Most of these films contain a number of stereotypes about about the Roma which fuels discrimination and fear of the Roma people. These stereotypes can be seen in mysticism, music and clothing. They are seen as evil conniving and frightening in films using magic and sorcery to hurt others. Or they are looked at as mysterious and intriguing. Certain films cast the Roma in a certain light, so the films in the early 20th century were much more stereotypical than more recent films. However there are exceptions to this general observation. Films such as Cry of the Werewolf and Thinner are much more stereotypical than Time of the Gypsies and The Crazy Stranger. Many of stereotypes that are harmful to the Roma have magical and esoteric themes that put Roma in a certain light " Gypsies or Roma are one of the minorities frequently represented in film, whenever we talk about European or American film; within this context Russian and Eastern European cinema seems to offer the richest palette of portrayals, as in this region Roma represent an important and controversial minority. Film scholars agreed that from the moment when Roma appeared on screen and until the last decades when a shift toward a more realistic approach can be detected, their filmic representations were predominantly stereotypic and highly exoticized." ( Popan Elena Roxana) However they do actually believe in superstitions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. What Time And Sadness Spared Book Summary Ben–Atar, Roma Nutkiewicz. What Time and Sadness Spared. Charlottesville: University of Virginia. 2006. 196 pages. Roma Nutkiewicz's book re–tells events of what she went through from her childhood, leading all the way up to the end of the Holocaust. Roma shares her personal account of what living in the Nazi–era was like. Roma explains how in her early years she was just like any other child. She never saw herself or her family to be different from other communities, because everyone surrounding her was Jewish. Until World War II started. Not to long after Germans started to move into Warsaw, Poland where she lived and everything in her life changed. In the beginning it started with curfews, then she needed her identification cards at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roma's experiences are shocking enough to not only make this book unforgettable for me, but also made me take the Holocaust more seriously. Rather than another genocide that happened a long time ago. Doron's use of words painted a very clear picture of what his mother endured. Roma stated "the person in my body was a stranger I had never met". This quote alone shows me how much the Holocaust changed her. All dread she felt while in the concentration camps could have been enough to kill her by itself. She seemed as if she had nothing to push her,yet she survived it all. Which helps me to understand her thesis. That you are strong enough to do anything. Roma supports her thesis throughout her whole book. Every word proves her to be right. How she was separated from her family. When WWII first started and her family had to sleep in the basement to protect themselves from the bombings. Or when she nursed her friend back to health, after being beat by German soldiers, just to watch her be executed the next day. Roma's first winter was spent standing outside in the cold half of the time she was in the Majdanek execution camps. These are all examples of her thesis, because in the end she did survive. The time that she was in the camps she did not have any children, and most of her family was dead. So Roma chose to live ultimately for herself, and to help people understand, if I can survive that Holocaust then I am strong enough to do anything, and so are you. Roma created an astonishing book that I truly will never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hardy Gypsies Research Paper The culture of the Roma gypsies The Roma gypsies, also known as Roma, Romani or gypsies, are people of Indian origin who are now settled all over the world. The migration, which commenced sometime in the 9th century, shows that the Roma people migrated from Indian sub–continent following two distinct paths, namely, the Central Asian route and the Northern African route (Romanian Family Health Initiative, 2007). Nomadic nature of the Roma gypsies Gypsies are nomads (Leeson, 2013). The nomadic nature seems to be a central point of departure that defines the gypsy way of life. Although, the modern Roma people no longer travel in caravan and have blended in with the locals, the sense of independence through travel still is reflected in their way of life (Romanian Family Health Initiative, 2007), for example, many Roma men choose occupations that lets them travel and be on the road (Matras, 2000). Social organization Roma society lacks traditional hierarchy or structure (Leeson, 2013). Roma people live as a large group comprising of extended family members as a single unit. A typical Roma family would consist of parents, their children and spouses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To a non–gypsy or gaje, the law would seem like a list of taboos (Matras, 2011). The gypsy law is based on the principle of cleanliness of the body and the spirit. It elaborates on the concepts of melyardo (physically soiled) and marime (morally soiled). Marime or mahrime (parts exisiting below the waistline) is portrayed as being contagious and vujo or uźo (the parts above the waistline) as being the most pious. Several day–to–day activities, customs and traditions are based on these core values (Leeson, 2013; Matras, 2011). • 7. The Romani Language : The Language Of Inflected Romani The Romani Language The culture of the Roma, otherwise known as gypsies, encases many cultural values and traditions separate from that of Western culture. A factor of their culture includes their language, which can be defined as a system of publicly shared symbols by which individuals share private experiences. The Roma's language of inflected Romani, created after from linguistic divergence of the Indo–European proto language, is able to meet all the properties of language as well as being interrelated with their culture. Romani allows gypsies to be able to preserve their culture when they are dispersed around the world, while upholding their beliefs because of how they think through the lense of language. Romani, being the language most commonly spoken by the Roma, is very different throughout Europe. Since the Roma have diffused in many locations, different dialects have developed based on the languages surrounding them and how they are acculturated or if they choose to assimilate. Due to the lack of a state committed to the culture of the Roma, many people within these communities adapt and pick up the language commonly spoken in the country in which they have settled. Overtime, a shift in values has lead to a cultural view that has western or other european views infused into that of the Roma's culture. This leads to the need for code switching within their society because of the language difference between the people of Roma culture and the language of the country ... • 9. What Is A Policy Memo: Roma People In Hungary Policy Memo: Roma People in Hungary The Roma people have lived in Hungary for several centuries, but they still face discrimination in their minority status. And, Lack of participation in political, economic, and social activities has a negative impact in their lives. As the result, Policies geared towards empowerment of the Romany should be formulated and implemented. The Roma people, also known as the gypsies, settled in Hungary more than 500 years ago from the Indian sub– continent (Crowe 179). Integration in the Hungarian society has been faced a big challenge since they are perceived as the minority and live a semi–nomadic life. • 11. Ethnic Culture and Culture of Poverty: the Gypsy/Roma Essay Peter Szuhay asked in "Constructing a Gypsy National Culture" whether the Gypsies are an ethnic culture or a culture of poverty. I would like to argue that the Gypsy identity is a product of traditional ethnic culture as well as the product of a marginalized social stratum. There are many aspects of gypsy ethnic culture to which can be contributed to the result of marginalization and sometimes those same ethnic cultural traits become stereotypes to which society justifies their stigmatization and poverty. Thus emerges a pattern of both ethnic and social traits being interdependent, intertwined and self–perpetuated. The intersection of the two conflicting cultures can be seen in the following statement made by many and is commonly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often Romany families who are poor will avoid the schools, and if they do send the children to school they have trouble going regularly as well as being socially accepted by the teacher and his classmates. (Sigler 7) A majority of these children are not able to advance further in their education because they fail to neither pass biased exams nor be fluent enough in the language of the state. Thus they are either held back or send to a special school and later end up at a trade school. In this case, the distinct language that distinguishes their ethnic culture also serves as a handicap to the children, perpetuating their social immobility and continues to stigmatize into a culture of poverty. In Miriam Lee Kaprow's study of the Gitanos in Spain she found that the only cultural characteristic to which she can distinguish a Gypsy from a local is through something she call the "essence of the Gypsy." This essence is their "flair" and the "sheer energy with which they embarked on everything." (Willems 5) Agnes Daroczi describes the Gypsies' "knack for living from day to day" and value of "feeling good" is the same characterization for an ideal ethnic cultural trait that is unique and shared among the diverse Gypsy communities all across Europe ... • 13. Roma And Non Roma People The Romani People commonly known as Roma, Gypsies or Travelers account for around 11 million people scattered across Europe today, mostly in the Eastern European states. They have been persecuted and discriminated against due to large cultural differences since their arrival to Europe. The post–1989 transition from communism in Eastern Europe created a huge ethnic underclass of Roma who by many measures such as political, social, and economic, have the lowest status of any ethnic group in Eastern Europe. This has led to large socioeconomic gaps between Roma and non– Roma people. Europe is finally starting to realize what a large problem this gap is causing and certain agencies and governments of states where there is a larger population of Roma have begun to take action to better integrate the Roma people into society. These initiatives are striving to increase employment, education, welfare and other aspects of life for the Roma people and to break the destructive cycle of poverty, unemployment, lack of education, and loss of hope that has set in for many East European Roma. There has been much debate over the origins of the Roma people. Originally thought to have been from Egypt, they were given the name Gypsies. After extensive research into their language, it is now thought that the Roma people migrated from India to Eastern Europe approximately 600 years ago. The Roma 's migration from India was largely dependent on geography. It is believed that they traveled through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Persecution: The Destruction Of The Roma Culture The beginnings of persecution come from hatred. Hatred comes from the growth of fear. People for time immemorial have been devastated by the growth of rampant fear that's projected onto their race, religion, ethnicity, and culture. Under the Soviet Block, the Roma people were subject to harsh persecution and demonization as a result of their society that was not compatible with the communist regime. In Czechoslovakia this fear almost caused the destruction of an entire people, a culture, a way of life. The outcome of this persecution was widespread destruction of the Roma culture within Czechoslovakia, and had it been allowed to continue, potentially lethal. Roma people came under intense scrutiny from both the government and the citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jaroslav Sus, writer of The Gypsy Question in the CSSR, claimed that the communists were justified in attempting assimilation of the Romani into Czechoslovakian culture because the Romani language was, "discordant, stagnant, without written form and therefore without a future, invented by thieves and criminal elements," (HRW, 11). His claim, that a language spoken by at least 100,000 people was dangerous, could not have been justified had the Roma people not been the subject of hatred in the past. Sus claimed that the Roma were, "thieves and criminal elements," (HRW, 11), appealing to the citizens of Czechoslovakia to protect themselves from the possibility of a perceived criminal element rising to a position of power. Sus further discredits the Roma by stating, "Gypsies are not a nation, a nationality and in view of the objective conditions of their existence...cannot ever in the future obtain either the status of nationality or national minority," (HRW, 11), leading to a widespread belief that the Roma people are inferior to the people of Czechoslovakia due to a language that is "scattered" and "without law". Through these actions, we can see the many ways the regime worked to discredit the Roma language and culture and refused to recognize them as a national minority. Citing Romani people as "outsiders" that threatened the autonomy of the nation and the communist regime, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. How Do Mainstream Media Portray Roma People? First of all, based on the information found during the research, it can be seen that mainstream media portray Roma people in France and Romania in a neutral or negative way, and rarely in positive way. Regardless of the news about Romani is positive of negative, there seems to be more coverage when specific circumstances occur, for instance, crime. As of 2010, both the mainstream as well as alternative media was focusing mainly on the expulsion of Roma from France by former France's president Sarkozy. This has even gone outside the France's national media into international media sites such as The New York Times, BBC, CNN, etc. The expulsion against Roma communities by the French government have caught a lot of attention by the media and sparked a discussion within France. Today, there are approximately 12 million to 15 million Romani people throughout the world. The Roma's history is very complex; they have experienced throughout history exclusion, discrimination, and persecution. The majority of the Romani people in today's society live in Western Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The social and political organization of this group has a traditional, complex way of life. In their traditional economic culture, the Roma all have very similar occupations that consist mostly in the fields of entertainment, crafts, and trading. Religious practices vary with the Roma. All these component's tie into the way the Roma people live which in some ways is very similar to ours. The Roma history is vast and complex; the Romani people have been on this world for over a thousand of years. In those years, they received discrimination, persecution, and exclusion. Through most of their history, the Roma were typically classified in a social hierarchy as the "untouchables" or the "undesirables". It has been said that the Romani people originated in India. The Roma have been associated with "nomadism" because some Roma groups are still wandering groups predominantly in Romania (Cahn & Guild, 2010). Some Roma hide their ethnic identities because it can be dangerous and bad for their business because of the stereotyping that goes along with being a Roma. Also, depending on the community, they may be threatened, attacked, or discriminated again. 2. What challenges did the Roma face in different parts of the world? The Roma face a variety of challenges in different parts of the world. When the Roma moved to Western Europe, people took away their history by twisting what it truly meant to be Roma. They also tried to destroy the Roma culture. In Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Roma were stoned by the citizens of Halifax simply because of their ethnicity. The Roma then traveled to Australia, South Africa, Tasmania, Buenos Aires, and back to England. They traveled because they were not accepted as citizens in any of these countries. When they returned to England, they found that a lot of the Roma had settled down because they couldn't take the abuse. When Julia lived in a small village in Scotland her family was the target for racism. Local people would vandalize their home and kill their dogs. One day, Julia was playing outside with her sister when a young man threw a brick at her head that spilt her head open. When her sister tried to help her, they beat her with a pipe. • 31. Roma Gypsies And The Concentration Camps By 1940, Roma gypsies were rounded up and made to live in encampments. These in time became fenced in ghettos. From these ghettos, many were transported by train to detention camps to await deportation. They were forced to wear black triangle markings for being asocial or a green triangle for being professional criminals. Besides being treated as in the camps, they were also subjected to multiple medical experiments, including "special experiments that were supposed to prove scientifically that their blood was different from German blood." Many of the gypsy women were sterilized against their will, which included any female child over the age of twelve. This was done so they would not be able to continue their ancestral line, thought to be impure inferior and worthless. Most Roma gypsies were exterminated in the camps. Roma gypsies also endured the holocaust not only in concentration camps, but also in other parts of Europe. France, Croatia and Romania all sent gypsies to either Nazi concentration camps or deported them to the Ukraine. Many of them died of disease and starvation once reaching the Ukraine. It is estimated that between 500,000 and 600,000 Roma gypsies died as a result of the holocaust. Anton Fojn, a Roma gypsy recounts his entrance into a Nazi camp in Ian R. The Roma In Germany: An Analysis After a quasi–period of forgetfulness, the abolition of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, and the assimilation of certain Roma (later to be known as Sinti), some of the Balkan and Vlax Roma migrated to Germany after being emancipated in Romania. This new influx would initiate further persecution when Otto von Bismarck in 1886 ordered all non–German citizens to be removed from German lands. In Munich on March 1899, an "Information Service on Gypsies" was established by the Security Police in the Imperial Police Headquarters that identified and fingerprinted Gypsy nomads who were viewed as pariahs. In order to understand the Roma's plight, he goes into local folklore to give historical context about the Romani genealogy presence in Svinia by using birth and death records to describe the first Roma couple to migrate to Slovak. To support his argument, Scheffel richly describes the Roma primitive huts, deplorable living arrangements without electricity and plumbing, illiteracy, demeaning work such as feeding pigs or shoveling manure. Scheffel calls the people he claimed to bond with for over ten years "a careless society" (220). "The Roma must therefore, break through the walls of the ghetto and claim their rightful place in the village proper" (223). Both have risen through the ranks and established themselves as the heart and soul of their club. And both have consistently led from the front and guided their clubs to football glory. However, the strongest bond that exists between the two is their relentless, unmitigated devotion to their beloved club. The common thread that binds Totti and Gerrard together is their unique ability to stand by their clubs through thick and thin. But the past few years have been particularly painful for the aficionados of Roma and Liverpool. During the Holocaust, Hitler persecuted not only the Jews, but many other groups too. The Nazis went to extremes to persecute many people including Roma, handicap/mentally ill, and many other minorities. To begin, Roma (Gypsies) were targeted and persecuted by the Nazis. • 57. Research Paper On Gypsies "The Gypsy has three truths; one with me, one with you, and the third with himself" a Ukrainian saying about the Gypsy life style. Portrayed for centuries as a lying, thieving and sinning group the gypsy have been discriminated against by most nations. Gypsy have endured slavery, being burned at the stake, being sent to concentration camps and being forced migration to start the list of terrors the group have endured. Most cities and nations do not treat Gypsies as equals and have a history of suffering. People know little about the Gypsies and if he/she does not know their history they are doomed to repeat it causing the Gypsies to continue to suffer. After many pleas to the courts Gypsies seem to be losing their battle for rights, Having been forced to migrate all over Europe the gypsy have never had a true home. There are over seven million people currently classified as Roma. Simply being Roma is not easy and many possible Roma have a self–identity problem. Being Europe's largest minority many would believe the Gypsies would be treated in a good manner. That is not the case most countries do not even consider Roma to be an ethnicity. For this and many other reasons the Roma mistrust the authority. The mistrust is mutual and the Europeans have not felt the Roma fit in with the rest of Europe. Originally thinking the Gypsies were spies for Muslim countries during the crusades, Europeans never accepted them. For their own good the children of any Roma person were taken ... • 59. Roma Stereotypes While reading and listening to the interview I learned a ton form Isabel Fonseca. I always knew there was a stereotype placed on the Roma/gypsy societies, I had no clue how segregated they still are today. The Roma people are treated very poorly in the majority of Europe, because they are uneducated and different. But by segregating the Roma and not allowing them in our schools they wont ever be able to better them self's and blend better into society. Roma society's deal with stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination which I am going to discuss in this paper. First the Roma society's deal with people stereotyping them into one lump. People see them as uneducated, but partially we are to blame because we wont allow them to merge into our society. Due to them being uneducated they live in poverty. Gypsies are stereotyped as being poor, due to this we treat them poorly regardless if we know if they are poor or not. Last we also treat them differently and define them by the way they dress. But by us stereotyping them we are taking away their opportunities to better themselves. Second the Roma society's deal with prejudice everyday. For example, in the interview and article that we read there was a story about a camp of Roma's in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start we discriminated them because of their skin color and mysterious origins. They are judges for the way they choose to live. Gypsies live in close proximity with one another. They marry within their camps to strengthen their family ties to one another. The Roma children are sent to separate schools and most don't even attend. The only country that is trying to help integrate the Roma society into their own is in Romania. In Romania they are allowing and encouraging parents to send their children to the local school, by offering shoes and a hot lunch a day. • 61. The Manifestations Of Organized Crime Among Roma The Manifestations of Organized Crime Among Roma in Romania Abstract – Organized crime captures the attention of the entire society, generating insecurity and fear among citizens. When talking about organized crime, especially among the Roma, although the terminology refers to extremely serious criminal deeds, initially we are tempted to think about the frequent methods used to sensitize that the Roma people abuse of: begging, marketing of products or metalworking. The sense of security among citizens is becoming less and less common. And as the theme dealt with in this paper refers to organized crime among the Roma – which leads us to think about a cause of insecurity in today 's society – we will make a general analysis of the ... "Beccaria, Quetelet and Lombrosso admit the essential abnormality of the criminal behavior: each advocates its eradication in his own way, indicating the approach that is, in each point of view, the most effective in fulfilling this task. Firstly, the solution is to build a criminal law based on democratic principles and reason. Secondly, it is important to find the social causes of delinquency in order to direct the actions of the public authorities towards the "moralizing" of the offenders. Lastly, crime is a pathological conduct, and it must be cured on the basis of individual treatment which only uses in certain cases the instruments of law "(Ogien, 2002, p. 21). The offense of establishing an organized criminal group is a criminal offense of a particular gravity, which is punished with up to 10 years of imprisonment, depending on the gravity of the offenses for which the group was formed. Moreover, when the purpose for which the group was formed is reached, the conjuncture of offenses will result in a higher penalty. A.The evolution of the phenomenon In Romania, organized crime developed immediately after the revolution in 1989, with ramifications in almost all its spheres of manifestation. Over ... • 63. The Breville Roma ESP8XL Esspresso Machine Case Study The Breville Cafe Roma ESP8XL Espresso Machine is a very good mid–range machine for home espresso enthusiasts. The machine means business and will stand up to regular daily use. This is immediately evident when you see the machine with its substantial stainless steel body housing. You can count on a very high quality espresso each and every time without a lot of confusing settings and controls. I use mine (yes I own one and have for approximately one year) around 5 times a week. The Cafe Roma has taken its place as my "go–to" machine and it has yet to disappoint. The Cafe Roma's pump maintains 15 bar pressure, which is more than enough for authentic espresso. Breville's says their dual wall portafilter enhances the crema production and the espresso's flavor. Breville's thermo block heating system maintains the water temperature at the correct level. You can't make great espresso without adequately controlled pressure and water temperature, so while there is little in the way of technical data on these two systems they appear to be doing the job well based on the results. There are three separate inserts included for the portafilter. These inserts allow you to make either a double shot or single shot or as an alternative to use a coffee pod. Having the choice to use a pod is a feature I appreciate. I don't use them often, but I appreciate having the ability for certain times when I discover a really good pod product or if I am in a hurry. I've had good results when I have used them in this machine, and it takes standard ESE pods. It is easy to tell the inserts apart from each other because they are all clearly marked on the bottom. Operating this machine is very simple and the controls are efficient and understated. Brew time and volume are managed by the operator, as they are on all semi–automatics. The front panel of the machine has 2 very simple controls and the whole process can be completed one handed. The red power light and orange heating light both illuminate when you flip the power button. Once the machine is ready, the heating signal goes out and you just turn the large knob to either the left for steaming/frothing, or to the right for brewing. I can't think of a way they could have made this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. The Remotely Operated Mechanical Astronaut Essay example The Remotely Operated Mechanical Astronaut, or ROMA, is the next step forward in robotic Extra– Vehicular Activity, or EVA, assistance. Simply put, it is, as the name implies, a robotic astronaut stand–in operated by an astronaut inside the International Space Station, or ISS. ROMA's simplicity of design incorporates numerous amounts of hardware and software already in use to create a single, versatile robot to heighten safety and lessen the amount of time it takes to complete an EVA. The brilliance of ROMA is that its design uses technology already in use and molds it together into a singular, adaptable machine capable of doing numerous tasks. For instance, the idea for a free– floating camera originally comes from the AERCam Sprint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ROMA's innovations and versatility allows it to help with any phase of the construction process. Speaking of recycling hardware, ROMA's control systems are derived from the same technology used to train astronauts for EVAs. Similar to this training equipment, the controller wears specialized sleeves along with a virtual reality helmet that remotely controls ROMA so that the robot mimics his (or her) movements, while the astronaut sees what the robot sees (Gilman, 2010). Thus the training for the use of ROMA is relatively simple: astronauts will continue using the virtual reality training systems that are currently in use, just more in depth. Also, since astronauts currently in space already have a minimal amount of this type of training, there will be no need for them to learn something new. To use ROMA, astronauts will put on the arm remote control sleeves, the virtual reality control helmet, strap on the movement control joystick, and go to work. To maneuver ROMA, the astronaut operates the joystick, which moves not only forwards, backwards, left, and right, but also up and down to allow for free range of motion in all directions. When the astronaut does this, ROMA's hands also move to the front, causing the center of gravity to stabilize and ROMA to be easier to maneuver. Once ROMA undocks and reaches the desired destination, the astronaut manipulates the arms by moving his own. ROMA's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Roma Culture Research Paper The Roma people have been underappreciated for many years. Due to the way they were treated that have come up with many different ways to act in the world. With mistreatment coming from multiple different cultures, there has been a strong bond with the Roma culture to continue their society despite the many hatred acts from other civilizations. The Roma people have educated children in a very culturally different way that many cultures and civilizations. From their schooling to begging we see the Roma culture teaching children bad habits economically compared to many other cultures. Looking into the Roma culture, you will find that close to half of Roma children attend any type of public school. This low number has evolved from the discrimination of their culture. Roma children are taught in many ways that education is necessary to live a life of fulfillment. In some ways this may be true, but in an economy where human capital is becoming very important to live a successful life, not attending any type of school would be hurting the Roma population assuming that they want to have a culture with less poverty. Howell and Paris suggest, "Some individuals or groups have more authority than others; that is, people grant legitimacy to their words and actions" (Introducing Cultural Anthropology, 132). • 69. Roma before Pax Romana Values a society share with its citizens are not only different from one society to another, but also characterize the society because values mold morality. For example, America shares value of freedom, individuality, and competition among her people, and those values make America and American morals different from morals of other countries, such as Soviet Union. Just like any other societies throughout history, Rome had a set of values that were particular to Romans; of course, some of the values had changed, and others remained in course of Roman history. During the time of Augustus, when bloody civil war finally ended, Augustus decided to focus on three values: patriotism, piety, and family, which all act together to prosper the Roman Empire. Vergil, through his epic, probes beginning of Rome and values of Romans not only of ancient time, but also of contemporary time to Vergil. Through contrast of Aeneas and Dido in patriotism and piety, Vergil takes side of Dido and criticizes Aeneas, who is epitomize values during Roman empire, implying that Vergil himself holds doubts on values set by Augustus. To start, Vergil uses Aeneas, a patriotic hero, to cast doubt on patriotism: is patriotism all that important? Aeneas is without a doubt a patriotic figure: he tries to protect falling Troy, deeply mourns for loss of his home after the fall of Troy, and undertakes the mission to set another great empire (Vergil, Book II). • 71. Essay on Discrimination Against the Gypsies "There are some 15 million Roms dispersed across the world. Their history is one of suffering and misery, but it is also one of the victories of human spirit over the blows of fate. Today the Roms revive their culture and are looking for their identity. On the other hand, they integrate into the societies in which they live. If they are understood by their fellow citizens in their new homelands, their culture will enrich the society's atmosphere with the color and charm of spontaneity" (Ghandi). The word Gypsy is used to describe a particular nomadic group of people who originated in Northern India. It was when they began their nomadic ways, for reasons unknown, and traveled to Europe that the term Gypsy was born because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are, however, five main points that all Roma have adopted. These are loyalty to family, a belief in God and the acknowledgement of the devil, a listing of standards and norms followed by the tribe members, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions from migrating (Patrin). They also all have a high level of respect for the elderly among their tribe, and put strict regulations on their unmarried women. Also, the different dialects of the Roma seem to have stemmed from one source, which is considered to be Punjabi or Hindi. Whatever tradition the different groups of Roma may have, they all hold on to these traditions and are still put into play today. For example, the Roma women are married young, usually around twelve or thirteen, and the marriages are arranged according to the ties or in an attempt to strengthen ties between two families (Wikipedia). Gypsy communities can be found all over the world. Gypsies were even among the earliest settlers in the Americas because the European government began rounding up entire Gypsy communities and deporting them to the Americas. Gypsies were also deported earlier in history for the purpose of serving as slaves. The Gypsies were dispersed all throughout the Americas leaving behind them an impact on the native's culture. For example, many of Jamaica's folktales have a Gypsy theme to them. Another example would be how some slang words in Latin America have Gypsy origins. Before the Roma ... • 73. Regulation Fair Disclosure Summary In this research paper the authors want to express their thoughts by stating that how to them earnings reporting pertains to the discovery of information that has not been disclosed by either people or other types of sources and focus towards the negative in this study. In my opinion, the title of the paper itself could have had a different title only because throughout the paper it analyzes negative or bad news rather than really paying attention to both perspectives. Also the paper captures the information or news that occurs by using a three day window in which Quarterly Earnings Announcement (QEA) take place and compares it to a period where it does not take place. Furthermore, in this paper there are three hypotheses that arise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My recommendation would be to sample years that are passed 2002 and on to get a more accurate result for the study. I felt like there was so much going on with testing before and after the events took into effect. Even though it was a good size of sample and enough quarters from where to gather information from the time frame plays an important role. The Regulation Fair Disclosure that took place in October 23, 2000 made a great impact towards the way information was not allowed to be disclosed. I feel that it took an effect on the results since the information was gathered that year and was dealing with information asymmetry. In Li, Ha and Nabar (2014) they conclude that there is a difference that exists between pre and post regulation fair disclosure. The authors mention how the stock prices after the fact were more precise in relation to stock splits than before regulation fair disclosure took place. Also, with Sarbanes Oxley Act taking effect in 2002 could also have more managers disclosing information more voluntarily than before it took effect. In Aftermath (2015) he states that SOX arose because of the number of scandals that had taken place. So, with this said it shows how the disclosing of information is important and now that it is implemented will help in lowering the risk of having unreliable information. On another note as for the equations that were used throughout the paper I find them quite interesting and understandable. As well as the variables that were used in the tables are clearly defined and the tables do provide evidence to sustain their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Holocaust has been studied a vast majority of times being one of the most crucial events in extermination and genocide of all History. The Nazis persecuted a large number of ethnicities, races or minorities that were a threat to their state. The most persecuted race was the Jews and being the race which get the most importance, still the Roma were also one of the most persecuted races. These were the minorities who were utterly persecuted . The Roma or Gypsies were one of the minorities that Hitler was against and saw as an alien race "a final solution of the Gypsy question." This was a section of Himmler's Circular of December 1938. It shows how the Nazis wanted to exterminate the Roma as they are looking for a method or solution to the Roma people living in Germany. This mirrors the persecution of the Jews, who also needed to be eradicated. As well it shows how the Roma were victims of the "Gypsy question" which mirrors the Jewish Question (extermination of all Jews in Europe) and tells us that the eradication of Roma was also crucial to the Nazis. Out of all major Roman football clubs, only Lazio refused to be a part of the new project; this proved to be the beginning of one of the fiercest inter–city rivalries in the world, the famous "Derby della Capitale." Roma managed to make their mark on Italian football almost immediately, winning their first Scudetto in 1942. The post–war period saw them fall off the map a bit, as the club consistently found itself in the bottom half of the league. As a culmination of their troubles, Roma was relegated in 1951; however, they managed to return to the first division the following year and remain there until today. The ...
