Career Description After completing my B.Sc. degree in 1974 I did a year as student assistant at UP and then taught a year a The Glen High School (St 6, 7 and 8 Maths and Science). I then decided to take a break and became an airhostess for 3 years. In 1980 I started teaching at the then Technikon Northern Transvaal in Soshanguve, where I staid for 6 years, ending up as the head of the Physics department. Then followed a year in England as an assistant to a photographer, followed by another year of teaching Maths and Science to St 7, 9 and 10 pupils at King Edward VII High School for Boys in Houghton. In 1989, I commenced my IT career at BSW data, where my duties included programming, DBA work and installations and upgrades. In 1992, I joined the company Isis (Pty) Ltd in Pretoria, where I did more programming, DBA work, configuration management and system management. I performed installations and upgrades and support of the country-wide NaTIS system. In 1997, I joined Oracle SA as a consultant doing analysis and design using Oracle Designer and some programming. I became the Quality manager, responsible for quality management, achieving ISO9000 certification for Oracle consulting in 1998. I also did training and Oracle Method consulting. In 1999, I joined IOCore on the AngloGold project, doing analysis and design initially. In 2001 I became involved in developing the commercial version of the Cartagena product. This product has a strong spatial data component and integrates with Oracle Spatial and with standard GIS products. I was responsible for maintaining the data model using Oracle Designer, configuration management, testing and quality management and implementation of the Cartagena product. In July 2002 I joined a project at Fintech to assist with their Securitisation process. I did some analysis work initially and became involved in the production and roll-out of the new Securitisation software, doing database design, testing, implementation and assisted the team with the roll-out process. From January to July 2003 I worked on business intelligence projects for Absa and Meeg Bank, mostly doing analysis of business requirements with a view to creating suitable data marts that will deliver the management information requirements of the various business units. These include retail banking, agribusiness, procurement and various aspects of banking such as competitor analysis, market intelligence, product measurement etc. In July 2003 I joined a software implementation project for Telkom Directory Services as a business analyst on a project entailing specification of customisations to a product to be implemented for TDS, to replace several existing legacy systems. In September 2004 I joined Nedcor briefly to do analysis and modeling of business processes. In November 2004 I joined Eskom as a business analyst on a project to do a feasibility study for a data quality project for Eskom Engineering; it involved meetings and workshops with a large number of business users in the Distribution division about the problems being experienced with the data. The data quality project has since been successfully completed. In April 2005 I did a project at Absa Head Quarters for their Group Credit division, to do requirements analysis for MIS reporting for the Credit Research and Intelligence unit. The work involved creating a Business Requirements Definition document stipulating changes required to the existing Credit Risk data mart to bring the applied business rules up to date, and full MIS reporting requirements for the division. In August 2005 I joined Sentech as the Head of the Process Office. This is a line manager position with 2 permanent reports and up to 6 consultants varying. I report to the GM for Financial Operations Support. The position requires planning and controlling of all business process modelling activities, focussing on revenue generating products in the broadband arena mostly. The Process Office has to liaise with all the divisions in Sentech to get requirements from them, as well as to monitor compliance. Other tasks include resource management including appointments and performance management, managing the budget of the Process Office and developing methodologies for Sentech and the Process Office. We are currently part of an initiative to roll out an Enterprise Architecture for Sentech, and a complete business architecture based on eTOM will be part of this exercise.
