In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms an conventions of a real media product
1.
2. Ways in which I have used forms and conventions
of a regional magazine for my front cover
The font size varies to
make certain words or
phrases stand out. This
depends on the
importance of the
feature and what I think
will attract my audience
the most.
A masthead that
contains the logo
and cover price.
The masthead
establishes the
brand identity.
I have included
anchorage text to
caption the main
image of ‘The Way
Youth Centre’
I have used catchy
and memorable puffs
using puns with
simple language so a
possible buyer can
easily read teasers of
what will be inside
the magazine
I have used a colour
scheme that represents
my regional area and
establishes the brand
identity.
3. Ways in which I have developed forms and
conventions of a regional magazine for my front
cover
On a few regional
magazines I have analysed
such as Time Out London
included a feature with
extra insight on articles in
the magazine with sub
images.
4. Ways in which I have challenged forms and
conventions of a regional magazine for my front
cover
I haven’t used a tag
line because the
name of the
magazine serves as
a tag line itself as it
commanding the
reader to kick back
and enjoy the
magazine.
Instead of an
image of the
regional area, the
main image is
more illusive.
5. Ways in which I have developed forms and
conventions of a regional magazine for my editor’s
commentary
Only a couple magazines
contained an editors
commentary like
Wolverhampton West
Magazine to introduce the
magazine. I decided to use on
as a way to personalise the
magazine and engage the
reader as more than a
consumer.
6. Ways in which I have challenged forms and
conventions of a regional magazine for my editor’s
commentary
An editor’s commentary
usually comes on a
separate spread to the
contents page along with
an advert on the
opposite page. However,
I have put it as the first
page next to the contents
page because I am
introducing the reader to
the content of the
magazine, so fro reading
the commentary they
can look up the page
number of what they are
most interested in.
7. Ways in which I have used forms and conventions
of a regional magazine for my contents page
I have used sub
images to entice
readers to read
those specific
stories.
I have included the
contact details for the
magazine to encourage
reader input.
The contents
font is the
same as the
main heading
on the front
cover.
8. Ways in which I have developed forms and
conventions of a regional magazine for my contents
page
I have included sub
headings to section
the articles so
readers are able to
readily turn to the
articles within the
category. Also the
articles are in
alphabetical order
within each sub
heading.
9. Ways in which I have used forms and conventions
of a regional magazine for my double-page spread
I have used the pyramid
method to write article
which means I have
mentioned the
important information
first as a introduction
and then the bulk of the
article follows.
I have used
images that
relate to the
article.
Through out the
pages from the
editor’s
commentary the
website address
and the of the
magazine is at
the bottom of the
page in a small
font.
10. Ways in which I have developed forms and
conventions of a regional magazine for my double-
page spread
The order of
the articles
begin with a
regional
lifestyle story
with an advert
promoting it
on the
following page
11. Ways in which I have challenged forms and
conventions of a regional magazine for my double-
page spread
I have kept aspects
of a winter
seasonality but I
haven’t not
dwelled on theme
because from my
previous audience
feedback, my
target
demographic
didn't identify
with it.
The heading
different to
conventional
font to
connote
Christmas
and is
reinforced by
the article.
