1. Writing Center
1) Describe the design. How will this design promote student learning? This design is a writing
center. This design will promote student learning by providing students with the opportunity
work independently and collaboratively on their writing skills and assignments. The individual
desks located in the center of the class are for those students who prefer to work independently
and the kidney table will be used during group collaboration.
2) How quickly can you transition to this design from another design? This design can also work
for whole group discussion because the individual desks are already placed for whole group
instruction.
3) Did you see any other classrooms using this design? Yes, as an inclusion teacher I go to
several different classroom daily to provide inclusion instruction.
2. Reading Center
1) Describe the design. How will this design promote student learning? This design is a setup as
a Reading center. This design will promote student learning because it is designed for
independent learning (look at individual desk located in center of classroom) and it has a kidney
table which is used for projects and collaborative learning. The books shelves are located in an
area that will be accessible to every student in the classroom.
2) How quickly can you transition to this design from another design? This design will work for
whole group learning also because the desks are individually aligned, facing towards the teacher
and projector.
3) Did you see any other classrooms using this design? Yes, as an inclusion teacher I go to
several different classroom daily to provide inclusion instruction.
3. Whole Group Instruction
1) Describe the design. How will this design promote student learning? This design is setup for
whole group instruction for a math classroom. Based on observation, this design worked well
because the teachers (general education teacher and inclusion teacher) were able to maneuver
easily from table to table to check for understanding. Also, this setup made it easy for small
group instruction (kidney table) as well as whole group instruction to take place simultaneously.
2) How quickly can you transition to this design from another design? This setup will transition
easily from whole group to small group instruction because the room is already designed for both
types of instruction.
3) Did you see any other classrooms using this design? Yes, as an inclusion teacher I go to
several different classroom daily to provide inclusion instruction.
4. Small Group
1) Describe the design. How will this design promote student learning? This design is a small
group setup that is located within a special education classroom.
2) How quickly can you transition to this design from another design? This design is setup for
small group only but it can be also used for one-on-on instruction, tutoring, and oral
administration of assessments.
3) Did you see any other classrooms using this design? Yes, as an inclusion teacher I use this
particular setup, which I learned from my mentor.
