Evolution Theory and Christian Faith

1 . HISTORY OF THE EMERGENCE OF THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION
The roots of evolutionist thinking appears contemporary with dogmatic belief that try hard to deny creation . The majority of the pagan philosophers in
ancient Greece defended the idea of evolution . If we look at the history of philosophy , we will see that the idea of evolution has sustained many
pagan philosophy .
But not this ancient pagan philosophy that has been instrumental in the birth and development of modern science , but faith in God .
In general, those who pioneered modern science believed in His existence . While studying science , they sought to discover the universe that has been
created by God and reveal the laws and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Darwin knew that his theory faced many masalah.Ia acknowledged this in his book on the chapter " Difficulties of the Theory " . These difficulties
mainly on the fossil record and complex organs of living things ( eg the eye ) which may not be explained by coincidence , and the instincts of living
beings . Darwin hoped that these difficulties will be overcome by new discoveries ; but nevertheless he still put forward a number of very inadequate
explanations for some.
The American physicist Lipson made the following comment on the "difficulties " of Darwin: On reading The Origin of Species , I found that
Darwin himself was not so sure that is often to be; chapter " Difficulties of the Theory " for example , shows considerable self–doubt large enough .
As a physicist , I was particularly intrigued by his comments on how the eye is formed :
1 . While developing his theory , Darwin was impressed by the previous evolutionary biologists , especially a French biologist , Lamarck .
2 . According to Lamarck , living creatures passed on the traits they acquired during his life from one generation to the next , so there was evolution .
For instance , giraffes evolved from antelopes resemble animals . Changes that occur with their necks craned little by little from generation to
generation when trying to reach higher branches to memperolehmakanan.Darwin using Lamarckian hypothesis of the " inheritance of acquired

The Triune God Of Christian Faith
Mary Ann Fatula's The Triune God of Christian Faith provides for the reader the inner life of God as well as insight into the human reality. Fatula's
writing draws the devotional discussion of the Trinity as the present–day effect of the Trinitarian faith is called to support attempts to articulate and live
the Trinitarian mystery. TheTrinity in a human's life is the content of our definition of our human meaning and for an infinite gift: love. Each of us
has a desire for achieving meaning, for love, and for wholeness. Fatula in her book develops the study of the divine 'persons' and states the importance
of understanding what it is to be truly a 'person' of both human and divine potential.
In the Christian faith triune God is very significant. "Christian" is Trinitarian, describing Jesus as the one whom the Father anoints (christos) with the
Spirit so that the Spirit may anoint our own lives (16). Christians confess Jesus as the risen Lord of the universe, but is proclaimed to be inseparable
from the one who sent him, the one Jesus knew intimately as "Abba," or "dear Father." The ultimate paradox of Christianity is Jesus. Having Jesus at its
very center disclosed as the source, the meaning, and the definitive answer to all of human longings causes this ultimate paradox. Fatula goes on to
discuss, that although Jesus is the triune God, many of the people would not identify this God as the living God we actually experience in our own
daily lives.

The Christian Faith Essay
I didn't come from a particularly religious, or irreligious, household. Growing up, there was no solid, undoubting spiritual framework from which I
could base my life on. There was never any Sunday morning "rush–hour," where we would all eat a quick breakfast of bacon & eggs before cramming
into the car to go listen to a man, clad in white, preach & sing to us about a creator. There was never any youth–group, or summer–camp, or bible
study. Not to any fault of my parents, of course – I just wasn't raised that way. That being said, I was still told about God, the bible, and the things that
entail it. Despite the fact that I was never really, fully indoctrinated into the Christian faith, I was still being raised as a Christian, and that's what I
identified as for the majority of my childhood. I was Austin Tanner Herz, the 3rd grader, the lego
–fanatic, the comic–book reading, lunchable eating,
bed–jumping extraordinaire, the Christian. Little did I know how much my religious identity would change over the upcoming years. As a Christian, I
held Christian beliefs. I believed in the afterlife – that those who were "good" got to go to Heaven, and those who were "bad" went to Hell. I believed
that Jesus died for the world's sins, and that we all had an obligation to accept him. I believed these things because it was what I had been taught to
believe – despite having no formal indoctrination, it was all I really knew. All of my friends believed it, probably for the same reasons I

What Is The Christian Faith In Elizabeth Johnson's Why...
The Christian faith is a well–documented and common religion of the Western civilization. However, because Christianity is so fluid and complex, it
easier for Christians to be incorrectly interpreting aspects of the bible. In the book "Why Christian?" by Douglas John Hall, and "She Who Is" by
Elizabeth Johnson, both examine some of the critical misunderstandings proving problematic within the Christian faith, but in different "lenses". The
book "Why Christian?" addresses the Christian youth who are in doubt of their faith because of inconsistencies engraved in rules set by the higher
officials of the Christian community. While "She Who Is" examines the Christian perspective from the underrepresented woman's' perspective. Both
challenge the "traditional" Christian view, sparking controversy and conversation, but expanding on the normal beliefs that the majority of Christian
settle with. Both their perspectives represent misinterpreted forms that can be organized and interpreted through the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. In the
context of scripture, Johnson states that the Bible is hegemonically masculine. Johnson emphasizes the majority of Christian Bible names and images
used for God are masculine and patriarchal. For example, the bible mentions God as the "Father", as "Lord", the "King". These names are gender
specific and can affect the viewers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Christian Faith Reflection Paper
January 27th, 2015. This is the day that would change my perspective of the Christian faith forever. Let me take you back to the day before. It was
a long day and I had just completed yet another day at the prestigious Saint Thomas Academy. Later that evening I had planned to attend tutoring, lift
and head home for a prolonged night of study, but this was not the case. As the final bell rang, I became drowsy, nauseous and extremely light
headed, and I did what any other cadet would do: take a trip to the nurse's office. It was here where I fell asleep for a little under an hour, and the
nurse contacted my mother and I made it home safely. My mom then took my temperature, provided me with aspirin, and sent me to bed. Now, to
completely understand the story, I need to describe my family. On my mom's side of the family, we were and are still very close to each other. My
cousins and I take tremendous pride and passion in caring for, and spending time with our grandparents. We were especially fond of our
great–grandfather, Robert Glockner. He was a WWII veteran, and had German blood, making all conversations interesting! We spent extended amounts
of time with him, especially during his later years, but it was I who had the opportunity to build a extravagant relationship with him. We spent
countless hours together, him in a comfy bed, and me seated right beside him in an arm chair. He would relive stories from his time in the Navy, and
the times when we were young. Though,

Athanasius: Modern Day Christian Faith
As Christians, it is important to look into the history of the church to examine what the forefathers of the faith have been through in order to bring the
Christian religion to where it is today. It is also important to see how the faith has developed over time and how doctrine was written and rewritten. One
of the figures that have had an impact on the modern day Christian tradition is Athanasius. Not much is known about Athanasius' early life other than
that he was born into a wealthy Christian family in Alexandria somewhere between 293–295 AD which was the time of the Diocletian persecutions
(Rearden 2005, p.33). This era was a very depressing time for Christians as Athanasius witnessed many of his fellow Christians martyred for the faith...

45–46). He believed that the only way that we can know God is by faith alone and therefore know that the Trinity is Holy and three persons in one
(Edwards 2014, p. 46). He states that even though humans may not understand how or why the world exists, they can still know that it does
through faith just as it is with God (Edwards 2014, p. 46). They cannot understand in total who God is but they can know that He does exist
(Edwards 2014, p. 46). Athanasius did extensive study on the Trinity and came to the conclusion that the Trinity was indeed homoiosius, meaning
that they were all of the same substance, and that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit were the same deity (notes). When someone is baptized, they are
initialized into the Trinity so therefore if a person denies the Trinity they also deny the unity of baptism (Edwards 2014, p.59). It was Athanasius'
mission to prove the Trinity was real which he reflected in many of his letters. He showed how we cannot comprehend every idea in whole but we
can have faith that God's word is true and that in it He reveals the three beings in one (Edwards 2014, p.51) Athanasius refers to the Son as the
Word and states that in the life of grace, the Word gives the Spirit, who is the "living energy of creation" (Edwards 2014, p.60), to live on earth with
God's people and the Father is in the Word (Edwards 2014, p.61). This shows how each part of the Trinity has their own separate role but they are all
one and work in accordance with each other. Athanasius, just like Christians today, is faced with opposition on the idea of the Trinity and just like him,
Christians today should remain strong in the faith and solidify their

Old testament reflection
This Old Testament coarse has given me new insight on the origins of the Christian faith. It has given further explanation on stories I only knew
vaguely of. I have a clearer view on the stories of the Old Testament. From god flooding the world to the adversity of the Hebrew people. TheOld
Testament coarse has given me new insight on the way I see the Christian faith. In the Old Testament there are many occurrences when god does the
bizarre to get his point across. For instance, The flood that obliterated all life from earth except for one family: "Behold, I am bringing the flood of

And Rahab was saved and accepted by the Israelites why couldn't the other women and children change and accept god also? I know we don't have
all the answers but its difficult to comprehend god takes harsh actions sometimes. The story of the Hebrew people is pretty amazing they fail over
and over again to fulfill god's wishes but even though they fail got protects them and keeps his promise. The study of the Hebrew people in Old
Testament clearly reveals that God has a special place for the people. One verse from Paul from the New Testament now that I have read and studied
the old testament is more clear on describing the blessing of the Hebrew people by god and why they are so important , "Theirs is the adoption as
sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is
traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen" (rom 9:4:5).
The summary explains the promises and events that were given to the Jews by god. The Jews were unique people who were created by God to be the
waterway of divine revelation to the world. From them would come the prophets, the writers of the Old Testament andJesus Christ. The Jews were

Jesus ' Origins Of The Christian Faith
Beginning with an example of my problem in Jesus' origins: it is universally accepted in the historical field that Jesus had siblings. An example of
source text on this issue would be Mark 6: 1–6. All but one mainstream scholar would suggest that these are true siblings of Jesus, is in to say that
they were born of both Mary and Joseph and were either older or younger siblings, or both.8
This of course is not compatible with the Catholic faith. To affirm older siblings ofJesus would be to deny both the Virgin birth and the perpetual
virginity of Mary; to affirm younger siblings of Jesus would be to deny the perpetual virginity of Mary only. Both of these options contradict dogmatic
pronouncements of the Catholic faith.
Richard Bauckham, the one mainstream scholar who denies this approach, offers a different one, though for various reasons it is not an accepted
theory in the historical field. He offers the explanation widely found in Eastern Christianity, that Jesus' siblings were children of Joseph from a
previous marriage. This solves the problem of the virginity of Mary, but still has problems in Catholicism.
The Catholic tradition of the "brothers and sisters of Jesus" is that they are relatives like cousins but not actual siblings and that their mother was
actually a disciple of Jesus, meaning Joseph would have to be divorced for this to work, a rather uncomfortable though in Catholic theology.
Acceptance of Bauckham's proposal from a Catholic perspective all of

Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case For Biblical...
The apologetic method that I lean towards the most is that of the reformed epistemology. According to the text, reformed epistemologists argue that
secular thought has placed an undue burden on Christian apologetics It demands that Christians offer proof for their beliefs on pain of being
irrational.1 I stand by this view because I recall what Jesus said in John 20:29 "Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have
believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Just because one cannot see something does not mean it is not real. Today, many
unbelievers want evidence of the existence of God in order for them to believe. Nevertheless, it is easy for us to believe that when we go to our cars
that it will start. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case for Biblical Faith. 2011, 64.
Unless otherwise noted, all biblical passages referenced are in the New King James Version.
A few Christians hold the possibility that faith and reason are in strife, separated by some unbridgeable gap. They imagine that one assumes control
while the alternate one drops off. In all actuality, faith and reason cooperate flawlessly to help us know and love our Maker. Numerous Christians see
a contention amongst reason and faith. From one perspective, God instructs us to reason (Isaiah 1:18). We are to have a justifiable reason/purpose
behind what we accept, and we are to be constantly prepared to impart that motivation to other individuals (1 Peter 3:15). So we endeavor to show
unbelievers that our faith in the Scriptures is sensible, legitimized, and intelligently solid. The Bible bodes well. In addition, we should have faith. We
should trust God and not incline toward our own particular comprehension (Proverbs 3:5). The Bible lets us know that the "just shall live by faith"
(Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11). It appears that we should trust God paying little heed to whether His words sound good to our

Christian Faith And The Cross
The cross has over the years in the Christian faith been perceived as the major symbol of faith. This is manifested by how it is often strewn in
churches, people's clothing like t–shirts, designed as necklaces, and even for some, it is placed as tattoos on their bodies. This means that the cross,
which was initially associated with the death of Christ, has today become an image and reminder of hope. That the cross is the focal image for
Christians in the church today is no doubt and it is this perception that has stimulated debate over the years. For most Christians, the cross is the
essential image that brings trust for the forgiveness of sins and the likelihood of new life. Christ 's death on the cross implies that Christians' sins
have been managed and that God 's ability to pardon sin is prospective. Most people have drawn such solace from the image of the cross that they will
think of it as a source of violence. Others, on the contrary have raised concerns that the cross has contributed to promoting violence all through the
historical backdrop of the Christian congregation. From Constantine 's vision of the cross during the fourth century, to the campaigns in the Middle
Ages, Christians have considered the cross as a reason for the utilization of military force, mistreatment, and different types of violence. Most people
are expressing their concerns on whether the cross is an intrinsically violent and burdensome image, responsible for the misuse and violence not just

Sermon At The Word Of Faith Christian Church Delivered By...
On Tuesday, November 26, I critically listened to a sermon at The Word of Faith Christian Church delivered by Pastor Julius Stephens. It was a

Pastor Stephens 's sermon based on its introduction, body, delivery, conclusion and finally my overall reaction to his speech. The reason forthe speaker

To enable better understanding Pastor Stephens 's maintained good volume in speaking marking sure we didn 't have to strain to hear him. He also
made the sermon very interactive asking a lot of question and asked the views of his audience on an issue in order to engage them. He maintained
good eye contact and didn 't use a lot of hand gestures so he didn 't distract his audience from the topic. He used spoke audaciously, he took risks in
saying things that may or may not hurt people 's feelings in order to pass his point effectively. The speaker also made use of transition words this made
his sermon coherent.
The body of the sermon was mostly centralized on the purpose of each and every one of us in the church, the saying everything happens for a reason
and his view on it. He stated that every person in the church has a particular purpose. He used the example of a human 's body stating that every part
of the body has particular purposes. He went further to say in the body of Christ some of us maybe the legs, the eyes, the mouth, and the eyes of the
church.
He said every one of us has a purpose in the church as every part of our body has a particular task to perform. He said those of us who are evangelist
are the mouth of the church; he said those of us who are givers are the hands of the church, and those of us who have the money to sponsor the
movement of the gospel around the world are the feet. This example made me and other audience member understand our

The Cornerstone of Christian Faith: the Resurrection of Jesus
The resurrection of Jesus Christ separates Christianity from all other religions. Christianity without the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead is merely one religion among many. "And if Christ is not risen," said the Apostle Paul, "then our preaching is empty and your faith is in
vain". (1 Corinthians 15:14) Furthermore, "You are still in your sins!" Paul could not have chosen stronger language. (Mohler)
Still, the resurrection of Jesus Christ has been under persistent attacks since the Apostolic age. Why? Because it is the central confirmation of Jesus'
identity as the incarnate Son of God, and the ultimate sign of Christ's completed work of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. Those
who oppose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For to this day the Manichees say that the resurrection of the Savior was phantom–wise, and not real." (Hanegraaff)
Like the church fathers, the medieval church and the Reformation produced compelling confessions concerning the bodily resurrection. Thomas
Aquinas condemns those who "have not believed in the resurrection of the body, and have strained to twist the words of holy Scripture to mean a
spiritual resurrection." the Westminster Confession assert: "On the third day he rose from the dead, with the same body in which he suffered; with
which also he ascended into heaven, and there sittith at the right hand of the Father." (Hanegraaff)
Finally, the characteristics of Christ's body bear eloquent truth to his physical resurrection. Jesus invited the disciples to examine His resurrected His
resurrected body so that they would know beyond the shadow of a doubt that it was the exact same one that had been fatally tormented. He also ate
food as proof of the nature of His resurrected body.
Jesus provided the final exclamation mark for His physical resurrection by telling the disciples that His resurrected body was comprised of "flesh and
bones." "Touch me and see;" He says, "a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have" (Luke 24:39).
Those who would attack the Church and reject its gospel must direct their arrows at the most crucial truth claim of the New Testament

The Christian 's Acts Of Faith
We've all been there before, searching for something to watch on TV, 500 channels and nothing catches our attention until we hear the yelling of the
televangelist, "YOU JUST GOTTA HAVE FAITH! QUIT TRYING TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL! LET GO AND LET GOD!" For some that may be
the solution they are searching for. They might be frustrated or let down by their own efforts of understanding. But does faith begin with "letting go (of
reason and understanding) and letting God (reveal Himself to us)"? Is there any compatibility between exercising Christian faith and exercising
reason? Does reason have a role or should it have a role in the Christian's acts of faith? This has been a topic of discussion throughout history by
many great thinkers. I am going to attempt to show that reason has an active role in exercising the Christian faith; at least attempt to show that reason
and faith aren't mutually exclusive. I will briefly discuss (1) different views of the philosophical divide taken by philosophizers over the ages (2) and
biblical evidence of the use of reason (3) definition of biblical faith.
The apparent conflict between faith and reason has brought much trouble to believers and non–believers alike through the centuries. Influences like
Immanuel Kant in his Critique of Pure Reason penned these words: "I have therefore found it necessary to deny knowledge in order to make room for
faith" (1965, B:XXX) and Soren Kierkegaard held that the absolute limit to which our reason repeatedly is

My Christian Faith Research Paper
Everyone has their time in life when God tests the strength of their faith. These tests can cause you to break down, and they can torture you mentally.
Most of the time, these tests are really big. For example, if someone you love gets sick and you want to help, but there is nothing that you can do. This
is what happened to me, and it came to me through my mom suffering from a large brain tumor. Through my mother's hardship and my reliance on my
Christian faith, I learned important lessons such as, self control, putting all faith in God, and the importance of loving others for who they are. I
learned a very influential lesson about self control during this. In May 2016, my mom was diagnosed with a large meningioma covering most of the
left side of her brain. The tumor had been growing there for 7 to 10 years, they said it was most likely caused by the pills she took to help have me.

The three ways that one's Christian faith motivates him or her towards excellence in writing would be faith, honesty, and loving others. Humanity since
the start has communicated through various types of writing. Writing has advanced from the stone age period of drawing into something that
progressions a man's thought. History has shown that writing is essential in reaching the intended audience. For example, Biggs stated that, "when an
officer develops a reputation as a good report writer, others look to her or him as a mentor. The struggling officers tend to emulate the writing style of
the "good writer" and begin to use the same phraseology and word choice," (Biggs, 2016). In light of the content and presentation of writing one may

Arguments For Christian Faith
Krishna Tikkani
THL 1000–H03
3 October 2017
Reasonable Christian Faith
Christian faith lies between the two extremes of fideism and rationalism, that is, between faith with no reason and reason with no faith. Scripture, the
main source of Christian tradition, provides us with information about God and what it means to be Christian. An analysis of works and arguments by
early church fathers offers tools to engage scripture, including levels of belief and defining faith in the context of society and moderation. Specifically,
Augustine and McCabe present arguments concerning faith in the validity of scripture and proofs that a belief in Christianity is reasonable and true.
Therefore, a valid assertion can be made that reason plays an important and necessary role in Christian faith.
In his essay, "Faith in Things Unseen", Augustine argues against the idea that it is irrational to have a belief in things that one cannot see. He
discusses how it is normal and legitimate to hold beliefs in the unseen, and that the human mind by default will believe things that are not able to be
seen. For example, Augustine uses the idea that most people will trust in the goodwill of their friends, even though goodwill cannot be seen.
Furthermore, goodwill and the trust in that goodwill must come before two people can even be friends. Therefore, it is legitimate to have faith in
Christian belief as it can be supported by the same reason as friendship, or so Augustine asserts.
Along with that faith

The Conflict Between Christian Faith And Those Of Islamic...
As a global collective, the human past is purely one of conflict. Power struggles are widespread and unique in context, but these struggles are not
special in the presence or complexity of the self–versus–other conflict within them. One of the strongest examples for this assertion is the First
Crusades. At face value, any observer can immediately take notice of the separation between those of Christian faith and those of Islamic faith. If
additional diligence in research is provided, any one of these observers begins to find the endlessly deeper self–versus–other struggles present on both
sides, specifically amongst the Christian military. Numerous accounts from Christian actors serve to support this argument; the recorded thoughts of
both soldiers and intellectuals detail the surprising amount of divisions between what should be the Christian united. The relationship between the self
and the other present in the mindset of the actors of the Crusades shows that a definite, dynamic, yet necessary division between all groups of people
exists, no matter the already established bonds of any collective. One of the most complicated pieces to the self–versus–other puzzle is the dynamic
nature of its idealistic segregation. Each person involved with the First Crusade had an undeniable loyalty to God. In an effort seemingly meant to
cultivate more glory, some saw it fitting to sacrifice established intercommunity bonds for the sake of peer–provided glory. The glory promised by Pope

The Christian Faith, the belief of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross and resurrection from the dead through the holy spirit (ghost). The Christian faith has
different denominations, or basically different branches or groups of the christian faith. The top three denominations of Christianity are, Catholicism,
Protestantism, and Pentecostalism/Charismatic. In 2012, roughly 43,000 denominations existed. By 2025, people have estimated that there will be
55,000 denominations. These three questions, why the multitude of different denominations, does it matter what denomination an individual belongs
to, what differences exist between denominations, will be answered.
Why does the church have such a multitude of denominations? Just like people always have differences with other people, Christians will contrast
from other Christians. With approximately 2.2 billion Christians in the world, that therefore creates a lot of differences in the Christian family, thus
creating the 43,000 different denominations. Just like the Jews' different sects in The Chosen, a book written by Chaim Potok, Christians of course
have different denominations. Some Christians look for a formal, traditional type of church. Someone else may want to have a more casual, ... Show

Some people say yes, other people say no. Mainly the variations from different denominations do not seem to be on the matters that change if they
believe in Jesus' death and resurrection or not. A denomination that does not follow the Bible would be the Jehovah witnesses. They changed their
version of the Bible to fit their beliefs. They believe that the Earth will last forever and that they earn eternal life by becoming kingdom publishers. So
to finish it off, the denomination someone belongs to does not matter if the denomination believes that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose
again, however, if they alter the bible to change things that Jesus said, then it does

Christian Faith Research Paper
My Christian faith has been a cornerstone throughout my life, calming and supporting me within the trials of life. My faith has reminded me and
taught me, that my achievements are not my own, rather, they are a gift from God. This is something I have often struggled with, pride controlling
and limiting the growth within my life. However, through the refinement of my faith, as well as having great mentors and examples, I now
understand that these gifts I have are given, are gifts, not a result of anything I have done or could do. Within the classroom, my faith aids me as it
reminds me that I am called to work heartily in all areas of life, in addition to being a good steward of the abilities which God has given to me.
Throughout the stressful times and the hard times I can also remember that God is going to love me no matter what, and perhaps remembering this,

I haven't always been such a great example in this area, but my faith has undoubtedly motivated me to try and be an ambassador to those around me,
showing them the unconditional love which Christ showed us. Within the church, I believe the biggest area my faith has impacted me is growth.
Prompting me to ask questions which are uncomfortable, and step outside of my comfort zone, in order that I might be refined through these
experiences. Questions that stimulate growth by furthering my understanding of key issues and concepts within the faith. Lastly, extra–curricular
activities have been influence the most by my faith. Before realizing the importance of my faith, the stage and the field served one purpose, bringing
me personal pleasure and praise. This remained way for quite some time, even after I had supposedly embraced this faith lifestyle. However both

The Christian Faith
One of the foundations of the Christian faith is the belief that God is actively working in His creation. God did not create the world and leave it to
its own fate. Instead, God is still actively involved in every part of His creation today. This belief is crucial for the Christian scientists in today's
world. Ones who study cells and molecules can discover how astounding and detailed God, the Creator, is with this belief in mind. God is working
through his seen and unseen creation. In the tiniest cell, God's workmanship can be displayed. God made each cell to have a specific purpose towards
the human body or the plant. Cells and molecules are the work of an intelligent designer and are not random chances. Without God, cells could not
accomplish their purpose. God places every gene on DNA and makes the cells come together to form a human. "For you created my inmost being; you
knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13, NIV). Through cells and molecules, God creates each unique person on His earth.
When a Christian scientist knows God is at work in His creation, they can have a new perspective of cells. They will see cells as the design of God
instead of results of randomness. Once they observe and study cells, they can learn more about God. They can learn how detail–oriented and
omniscient He is. God is in control not only of the seen world, but also the world we can only see under the microscope! Each cell and molecule are
shaped a specific way to carry out a

What Does Christian Faith Mean To Me
What does my Christian faith mean to me? Faith is a gift from God. Faith means I won't go to hell when I die. We were God's perfect creation. Being
the loving God he is he gave us free will. We abused that free will and fell into sin. God loved us so much he sent his own son Jesus (who is also God)
down to earth, Jesus was willingly tortured and slaughtered by the people he came to save, dragged the sins of the world into the pits of hell and rose
again so that everyone can go to heaven and be God's children if they have faith. Jesus didn't stop there. He stayed and taught people for 40 days,
promised that the the Holy Spirit (who is also God) would come and then ascended into heaven. 10 days later the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost.

Biblical Scripture On Christian Faith
Scripture
Introduction
Scripture is fundamental to Christian faith, but who gives it authority? What makes it fundamental. Beyond these questions, you may wonder if it is
historical accurate or if science disproves scripture. If you decide that scripture stands the test of history and science, you may wonder if the words are
literal, contextual, or an allegory. These are questions that Christians may have to wrestle with throughout their lives. Luckily, today's Christians are
not the first to ponder such questions and can turn to scholars and other sources of information to help inform their decisions on the issues.
Basis of Scripture
The meaning and authority of scripture can vary depending on who you are. You can focus onGod as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many views it comes to scripture and science. You can see scripture as having science, but being limited to the time period. Others can
say scripture is correct and that you need to believe it (have faith in it), even if modern science disproves it. The stereotypical "worldview" is that
science explains it all and religion is outdated. A merging view would try to merge the two together and say science helps explain how God
designed and created the world. Scripture can be reconciled with Science using the last view. For example, you could say the Big Bang is the
reaction you would expect from God saying "let there be light" or that God made us adaptable (evolution) because He knew the world would be
changing. When you view science through the lens of religion, you can come up with many theories on how the two are not mutually exclusion. The
reverse has also happened. The world, humans, and the brain are very complex. When studying these structures, it can lead one to believe that they
could not happen by accident, but rather by "intelligent design." The limit to intelligent design is it does not point to who the designer is. Scriptures
can help point to the designer.
Interpreting Scipture
It is both good and bad that almost anyone (at least in America) can interpret scripture. It is good because we each bring unique views, backgrounds,
and thoughts into the reading of scripture and this can

Essential Elements Of The Christian Worldview Are Faith,
Essential elements of the Christian worldview are Faith, Love, Forgiveness and Living in Christ. These key elements are fundamental to Christ's
teachings and also reflect my own worldview. These four elements are an integral part of a Christian believer's life and defines our relationship with
God. The fourth element, Living in Christ, is comprised of many sub–elements like praise, prayer, and bearing witness. These sub–elements could be
described as fruits of a Christian's believer's daily life.
Too much of the Christian worldview's attention is focused on reconciling the Bible with science and archaeological discoveries when it should be
focused on redemption. The theme of the Bible could be summarized into four categories Creation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God created man in His own image. Some traces of God 's characteristics can be seen in mankind such as love, kindness, compassion and justice.
Humanity
The Bible says that man, made in the image of God, is also spirit. It is man's spirit that communes with the Holy Spirit. God also gave man a free
will which allows man to love God willingly. Man created in the image of God has remnants of his character which includes the capability to love, a
reason of a high level, and communicate with God. Man was also created with a sense of justice and morality. However, sin also resides in our nature
and led to the fall of Adam and Eve.
The purpose of man is to praise and worship God, proclaim his glory, and to accomplish his will."... And whom I have created for My glory, ..."
(Isaiah 43:7 New International Version). God created all things in harmony. He established a perfect creation that he loves and over which he rules.
The highest honor is given to mankind as the only part of creation made in God's image. Humanity was created to love as God loves, to worship and
praise his glory and commune with him as he does with us.
However, much of humanity is overly concerned with their own self–serving, self–centered agenda which is a form of idolatry. Many individuals
worship whatever their life is ordered around, failing to see it in the light of the glory of God. Humanity relentlessly departs from the path God had
intended for them. True

The Impact Of Neuropsychology On The Christian Faith
The Christian faith is pluralistic, meaning, "There [are] as many ways to love God as there [are] Christian souls" (Salzman, 2000, p.77). This reaches
greater complexity when considering the impact of neuropsychology on the Christian faith. People experience God in a plethora of ways, but what
about seemingly brain induced experiences? Salzman (2000) describes the journey of Sister John, a nun at the Carmelite convent in Los Angeles. She
experiences headaches that develop into deep spiritual episodes, which her doctor later informs her, are the symptoms of her recurring seizures. Sister
John has temporal–lobe epilepsy and her doctor explains that it, "tend[s] to be more psychological" (Salzman, 2000, p.68). Sister John's spiritual
episodes were presumably caused by her medical condition. So, were all of her spiritual encounters with God a lie? Was her faith a fabrication? The
implication of these questions can be quite troubling for the Christian faith. Is God simply a manifestation created within our minds? Objects exist
because they exist within the realm of our senses. If we cannot trust our senses, then what truly exists outside of ourselves? Sister John describes a
memory of her being drawn into service at the convent. She attended an early morning mass on Christmas Day when something odd happened. If one
looks closely, she describes experiences of depersonalization, "Instead of feeling trapped in a theater showing a bad movie, she saw herself as the
projector"

The Reasonableness Of Christian Faith
Summa Theologiae was written to display the reasonableness of Christian faith and to train future teachers in guiding others through Christianity,
(Lecture, 11.14.2016) whereby one ultimately reaches true happiness. While Christians steadily find pleasure in their acceptance of God, Aquinas
maintains that perfect happiness is distinct from this, both in what it entails and how it is achieved. Aquinas believes that humans cannot be entirely
happy until fully understanding God, the original cause of their own being, which is impossible until reuniting with God in life after death. Humans
cannot be truly happy until their intellect is fulfilled, which is only possible through understanding God. The human intellect instinctively seeks to
understand the cause of things, and will not be satisfied simply knowing that such a cause exists (S.Th. II, Q.3, A.8). Aquinas is optimistic about the
ability of human reason, and believes that unassisted logic can reveal and defend crucial platforms of the Christian faith, such as God's existence (S.Th.
I, Q.2, A.2). God is demonstrated fore mostly through His creations, including humans themselves and their intellects (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). "Since every
effect depends upon its cause," (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2) a human's awareness of their own life on earth subsequently proves the life of some entity which has
caused the human to be. Aquinas, and the Christian faith, identify this original cause as God. However, Aquinas acknowledges that there is a

The Islamic And Christian Faith Essay
he first, second, and third Crusade took place during the time of chivalry. Close to the end of the 11th century was the time in which the First Crusade
had begun. The Islamic and Christian faith had similar views toward Jerusalem as their Holy Land. In 1095, Pope Urban II called for the first crusade
to then later claim the land of Jerusalem from the Muslims. As time went on, the Saracens rebelled against the Crusaders in defense of their culture and
rights. The theme of crusades is vividly discussed in literature with a various number of viewpoints in regards to the reasoning and background of
these historical events. The thought process behind the Crusades and the motive to push this war into action was originally believed that it was for
the sake of preserving sacredness of religions, but in reality, the reasoning is much further from the truth than one would think and the terrible
outcomes of it are even greater. he Crusades was not a rational movement that could easily be explained purely because of it economical or territorial
ambition, neither would it be explained due to a clashing or rights and interests. Both the Christians and Muslims were fueled by myths and passions
that were far more effective in getting people to act than any political matter would. And so the years of war have followed. The main spark to this
prodigious war was when Emperor Alexis I of the Byzantine Empire requested assistance to Christian nations in order to defend its capital city of

Christian Faith Reflection
1. What do Jesus Christ and the Christian faith mean to you? How does your faith affect the way you live?
My faith journey has been a long, gradual process of learning to know and follow Jesus as I grew up in a local Mennonite church and a Christian
family. The transition of going to college has pushed me the most. Having independence put me in the situation to make all of my own choices.
Do I wake up and go to church? Do I go to chapel? How do I navigate choices around alcohol use or dating? How does my faith inform these areas of
life? I take the answers to these questions seriously. One of the areas where I have grown and continue to grow is through the classes I have taken.
My classes have pushed me to consider what I believe and why I accept certain things as true. My concentration on peace and conflict studies often
leads to meaningful class discussions where I am challenged to connect my faith to politics, economics, social issues, and conflicts around the world.
I believe that it is important to actively live out a lifestyle that can be seen in Jesus's teachings and the way he lived his life. I also look towards others
who have a good grasp on what Christianity means. I am fortunate enough to have many friends and family who represent how you can live a life of
following Jesus. Outside of these personal connections, two other prominent influences are the popular speakers and authors Bob Goff and Shane
Claiborne. Bob Goff talks and writes about how "love does" and

The Christian Faith Since The Reformation Of Luther
Spener, like Luther, saw a need to reform what was there in the way of religious faiths. And like Luther, his intentions were not to remake the faith but
to simply bring it back to where it belonged. Unlike the reformation of Luther, which failed to reform the Catholic Church and ended up splitting into
the Protestant Church, Spener spent his time within the Protestant Church to reform the way people lived and thought. Arguably, the Pia Desidria that
Spener wrote turned out to be the greatest paper to further the Christian faith since the Bible itself. Pietism is a movement that happened in the
seventeenth and eighteenth century within Protestantism. By the end of the seventeenth century Protestantism had fallen away from its focus on Christ
and a person's walk with Him and had fully submersed itself in to religious dogma. The movement started with one man, Philip Spener, growing up
with a strong religious background and the writings of Johann Arndt, Spener went to the University of Strassburg. While attending school at
Strassburg, he was taught by professors that justification by faith was more than just a doctrine but a spiritual rebirth. After spending three years in a
pastorate at Strassburg, Spener went to Frankfort. Upon his arrival, he was shocked by the conditions of the town and abandoned traditional doctrine
and started preaching from the entire Bible. After he preached from the Sermon on the Mount in 1669, the response from the people was very
surprising. People

Velvet Elvis: Repainting The Christian Faith
There is something about a quote that is quite strange and perplexing. It's immediate power to inspire, encourage, and motivate is unparalleled with
anything else. The fact that a few, simple words possess so much power, and such a great influence really shows how great of an impact we have with
our use of words.
"Why blame the dark for being dark, it is far more helpful to ask why the light isn't as bright as it could be." This is a quote that inspires me on a daily
basis. It originates from Rob Bell, founder and former pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church, and now author of many books. One of his many works is
Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith, the book that this quote is taken from. Although I do not agree with many of the theological beliefs of
Rob Bell, this specific quote is one that I wholeheartedly endorse.

This quote encourages me to take strides in my faith in order to reach those that are lost and living a lifestyle that will lead to death, destruction, and an

relationship with Jesus Christ.
In the future this quote will continue to inspire me, within my ministry, to love others according to the unconditional love of Jesus. Rather than
assuming that I understand their situation and intentions, I can show them love and walk them through how they can bring about life change by
aligning their lifestyle with the teaching of scripture. Too often we, as Christians, treat our influence as "this little light of mine," when, in actuality, we

Views Of Predestination And The Christian Faith
Views of Predestination:
What to Believe
This Semester has been great for me with being in Exploring the Christian Faith. It has been a good reminder and has also helped me learn more
about my wonderful Lord. We discussed the idea of Predestination, but I will be exploring it even more. Let's first start off with a definition of
predestination. As a doctrine in Christian theology, the divine foreordaining of all that will happen, especially with regard to the salvation of some and
not others. It has been particularly associated with the teachings of St. Augustine of Hippo and of Calvin. Let's break this definition down even a bit
more. First, a doctrine is a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church, political party, or other group, which makes since because we are talking
about Christian Theology. St. Augustine helped form the idea of Neoplatonism. There are many different views of what actually predestination means
and how literal is should be taken.
Limited View
In the New Testament, the word "predestined" is used six times in six different verses of the bible. In Ephesians one five, it says, "He predestined us to
adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will." Now how do we interpret that? Do we take it in the
literal sense that he actually chooses certain people to have a chance, and all others, no matter what they do, will live without him in eternity? "Those of
mankind that are predestined unto life, God,

"Faith...is the art of holding on to things your reason once accepted, despite your changing moods (Lewis 1952)." C.S. Lewis in his writings on faith
and reasoning there are inherent ideals that when becoming a Christian are understood. Prior to belief, a person's deeper meaning of faith cannot be
understood. Unbelievers can only have a certain amount of trust in that faith; however, it is purely practical on the part of the non–Christian. As Lewis
comments in his writings, there are just certain trials and tribulations in a person's life that come and go, and then they will have to reach outside of
themselves to a power higher to understand what it all means. Faith and Christianity are both foundations of beliefs to build a framework upon; ... Show

In having a healthy bond with our creator; we in turn, have one with his creation. Humans fail in a relationship with God, as Lewis follows up by adding
that "..if you are right with Him you will inevitably be right with all fellow–creatures.. (Lewis, Faith 2002)". God's way is a moral path, it will take
effort, resolve and reason to maneuver your way through this life. Faith is rational; whereas, our hearts can be emotional and deceitful. In Jeremiah
17:9, it states the heart can be wicked and sick, and that can cause us to doubt our faith and lead us to not know what truth is. Reason is what we can
lean back into with the grace of faith to show us the truth. Lewis continues throughout his text to points out that with faith in God; as you might expect,
good works will follow. Moods and failure will come, thus making it harder to sometimes just take a leap of faith; or in turn, to remove intellectual
obstacles to have faith in God. As Christians we must be instructed in the scriptures and established in the reasoning that is our faith. Seeking out a
deeper relationship with God, while exercising our mental muscles for the comprehension of the

1–8 Paul discusses the fundamentals and the foundation of Christian faith. Looking for things through the text in the Romans such as (1) the natural
world, (2) human identity, (3) human relationships, and (4) culture.
The first thing is the natural world. In the natural world it is full of sin, murder and crime are being committed even back in Romans. During Paul's
days was full of sin. We see sinners worship the creation but to the creator. There were sins that were being committed back then that are still being
committed till this day. When reading Romans first off it was a little bit confusing at first but after rereading it it started to become more clear that
the Romans in the past worshiped many gods. They were trying to gain the love and hopes from the people in their town. The writer of Romans Paul
wanted to cover this due to he believed he saw the issues within the Roman society and so he addressed it with the church. He decided to point out the
sins and make it more to the graceful to the people and the church. In Romans Paul distinguished human identity as being the saved and the unsaved,
and the Jews. Paul talks about whether humanity is the law or not. Paul states people may or may not have sinned according to the law but

Essay on The Place of Scripture in Christian Faith
As part of revivals in Christian faith during 18th century onward three practices evolved into their own interpretation on the place and authority of
Scripture in the Christian faith. The first of these were the Liberals who "viewed themselves as the saviors of a defunct out of date Christianity"
(Bingham 149). Their founder, Friedrich Schleiermacher an 18th century pastor, "did not view traditional, authoritative doctrines, creeds and biblical
texts as the preeminent sources in theology (150). Instead the Liberal perspective of Christianity put more emphasis on the doctrines of sin and grace
and less attention on the holiness of the trinity (Kerr 213). Jesus was viewed as a historical figure that we can learn from spiritually and the ... Show

The Neo–Orthodoxical view on faith is that it "is a step into the unknown, made on the basis of that which is already known. Faith is neither totally
rational nor totally irrational" (Lane 270). Following this is then the concept that knowing all of Christian history or knowledge of the Bible does not
equal faith (270). Those of the Neo–Orthodox faith believe that "the Bible is the word of God only in the sense that it witnesses to the past event of
God speaking and that God again speaks through it today" (275). Because God speaks throughout the Bible and is the living word it should be
viewed as a whole that spreads the message of Jesus Christ (Kantzer 19). The Neo–Orthodox movement sought to enforce the Bible as the eternal word
of God and his only as the guidance for our walk in faith and a manual of sorts to seek Him and reach heaven.
As each different theological movement evolved and became a form of Christian practice there followed the good and the bad aspects of each. The
Liberalist did well to become a part of society and distance themselves from the strict and traditional practices of Christianity. Although with this new
adaption of the faith they lost part of the meaning of being a Christian. Liberalist placed more emphasis on faith and with this they "taught the love of
God but denied his holy wrath against sin – thus ending with a sentimental concept of love" (Lane 271). Because the element of feeling and only the

Before going to Mishawaka Marian, my local Catholic high school, church and God seemed more like a chore than anything. But through those four
years, I know that by going through Marian I've gained a much deeper knowledge of Christ and how to see him working in my life daily. I've had
several deep and personal encounters with God and it is through those encounters that I was brought closer to Him and the Christian faith. The
most important event that solidified my faith happened first semester of my junior year, when my family got a call from our local hospital saying
my grandma was struck by a car and on her way to the emergency room. My whole family's life was turned upside down by one phone call and
things are forever different because of it. Several broken ribs, a broken hip, a major concussion, endless doctors' appointments and hospital visits
later, my grandma was finally back home. We slowly and thankfully began to put the event behind us, but the effect it left on my family will never
be able to be put away. Throughout this seemingly endless incident, I learned how important family truly is. I learned great responsibility, how to
give and receive help, and not to take a single thing for granted because it could all be gone in just one second. I also felt myself grow nearer to
God through this stressful and tragic experience. When you feel like you are alone and have no one to turn to, turn to God. Through Him I am
courageously finding my path because I know and trust that God will never leave my side. Through all of these life experiences and memories along
the way, I've learned so much about myself, how the world works, how God works in my life and where I can begin to see myself fitting into it. It is
important to realize that it is through the bad times that we learn the most and

The Church Of The Christian Faith
"Wesley believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and
confirmed by reason." Stephen Gunter writes, "Perhaps no theological topic has been the focus of more debate with The United Methodist Church
over the past quarter century than the 'Wesleyan Quadrilateral '" . It should be noted that John Wesley never used the term Wesleyan Quadrilateral to
describe his process of theological affirmation. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral has been misinterpreted to mean four equal sides; however, it was never
meant to be understood that way. Scripture is always the most essential authority for determining our beliefs and practices. The Bible was so
important to John Wesley 's faith that he referred to himself as homo unius libri or a man of one book (The Bible). John Wesley believed that
Scripture was the primary source for theological reflection and Scripture should be read and interpreted in context and as a whole. The role of tradition
in Methodist theological thinking is another important aspect of the "Quadrilateral". Ted Campbell writes, "Methodism, Wesley claimed, was in
continuity with 'the religion of the Bible, the religion of the primitive Church, [and] the religion of the Church of England '" . John Wesley was trying
to illustrate that the tradition and history of the Church is vital to the understanding of our theology. The apostolic church 's beginning is something
that we should be

My Understanding Of Family Life And The Meaning And...
As a child I regularly listened to the radio broadcasts provided by the conservative Christian organization, Focus on the Family–both the daily broadcast
on family issues and the weekly broadcast of the radio drama for children, Adventures in Odyssey.
My understanding of family life and the meaning and content of Christian faith was heavily influenced by these broadcasts. I listened carefully to the
dangers of straying beyond the strict confines of conservative Christian morality, and I can still hear the emphatic tone of voice in which Dr. Dobson
warned his listeners that the process of falling in love that begins with holding hands will inevitably "end up in bed" if nothing is done to stop it.
Adventures in Odyssey was entertaining and funny, with engaging characters and high quality production and story editing. I enjoyed listening to the
adventures and getting to know the characters. It was only later in life that I began to sort out the potentially damaging messages within the drama
from the more simple moralistic ideas of parental love and good behavior. I still like to listen at times, for nostalgia's sake, but I am increasingly
concerned by how the blithe and joyful nature of the program masks what frequently amounts to bigotry, ignorance, and intolerance. I am grieved that
such a special part of my childhood is turning into something that is little better than a propaganda tool for extreme right–wing Christianity.
Given this observation, perhaps I should not have

Evolution Theory And Christian Faith

  • 1. Evolution Theory and Christian Faith evolution teory and christian faith 1 . HISTORY OF THE EMERGENCE OF THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION The roots of evolutionist thinking appears contemporary with dogmatic belief that try hard to deny creation . The majority of the pagan philosophers in ancient Greece defended the idea of evolution . If we look at the history of philosophy , we will see that the idea of evolution has sustained many pagan philosophy . But not this ancient pagan philosophy that has been instrumental in the birth and development of modern science , but faith in God . In general, those who pioneered modern science believed in His existence . While studying science , they sought to discover the universe that has been created by God and reveal the laws and the ... These difficulties mainly on the fossil record and complex organs of living things ( eg the eye ) which may not be explained by coincidence , and the instincts of living beings . Darwin hoped that these difficulties will be overcome by new discoveries ; but nevertheless he still put forward a number of very inadequate explanations for some. The American physicist Lipson made the following comment on the "difficulties " of Darwin: On reading The Origin of Species , I found that Darwin himself was not so sure that is often to be; chapter " Difficulties of the Theory " for example , shows considerable self–doubt large enough . As a physicist , I was particularly intrigued by his comments on how the eye is formed : 1 . Changes that occur with their necks craned little by little from generation to generation when trying to reach higher branches to memperolehmakanan.Darwin using Lamarckian hypothesis of the " inheritance of acquired

  • 3. The Triune God Of Christian Faith Mary Ann Fatula's The Triune God of Christian Faith provides for the reader the inner life of God as well as insight into the human reality. Fatula's writing draws the devotional discussion of the Trinity as the present–day effect of the Trinitarian faith is called to support attempts to articulate and live the Trinitarian mystery. TheTrinity in a human's life is the content of our definition of our human meaning and for an infinite gift: love. Each of us has a desire for achieving meaning, for love, and for wholeness. Fatula in her book develops the study of the divine 'persons' and states the importance of understanding what it is to be truly a 'person' of both human and divine potential. In the Christian faith triune God is very significant. "Christian" is Trinitarian, describing Jesus as the one whom the Father anoints (christos) with the Spirit so that the Spirit may anoint our own lives (16). Christians confess Jesus as the risen Lord of the universe, but is proclaimed to be inseparable from the one who sent him, the one Jesus knew intimately as "Abba," or "dear Father." The ultimate paradox of Christianity is Jesus. Having Jesus at its very center disclosed as the source, the meaning, and the definitive answer to all of human longings causes this ultimate paradox. Fatula goes on to discuss, that although Jesus is the triune God, many of the people would not identify this God as the living God we actually experience in our own daily lives. There are three ... • 4. The Christian Faith Essay I didn't come from a particularly religious, or irreligious, household. Growing up, there was no solid, undoubting spiritual framework from which I could base my life on. There was never any Sunday morning "rush–hour," where we would all eat a quick breakfast of bacon & eggs before cramming into the car to go listen to a man, clad in white, preach & sing to us about a creator. There was never any youth–group, or summer–camp, or bible study. Not to any fault of my parents, of course – I just wasn't raised that way. That being said, I was still told about God, the bible, and the things that entail it. Despite the fact that I was never really, fully indoctrinated into the Christian faith, I was still being raised as a Christian, and that's what I identified as for the majority of my childhood. I was Austin Tanner Herz, the 3rd grader, the lego –fanatic, the comic–book reading, lunchable eating, bed–jumping extraordinaire, the Christian. Little did I know how much my religious identity would change over the upcoming years. As a Christian, I held Christian beliefs. I believed in the afterlife – that those who were "good" got to go to Heaven, and those who were "bad" went to Hell. I believed that Jesus died for the world's sins, and that we all had an obligation to accept him. I believed these things because it was what I had been taught to believe – despite having no formal indoctrination, it was all I really knew. All of my friends believed it, probably for the same reasons I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. What Is The Christian Faith In Elizabeth Johnson's Why... The Christian faith is a well–documented and common religion of the Western civilization. However, because Christianity is so fluid and complex, it easier for Christians to be incorrectly interpreting aspects of the bible. In the book "Why Christian?" by Douglas John Hall, and "She Who Is" by Elizabeth Johnson, both examine some of the critical misunderstandings proving problematic within the Christian faith, but in different "lenses". The book "Why Christian?" addresses the Christian youth who are in doubt of their faith because of inconsistencies engraved in rules set by the higher officials of the Christian community. While "She Who Is" examines the Christian perspective from the underrepresented woman's' perspective. Both challenge the "traditional" Christian view, sparking controversy and conversation, but expanding on the normal beliefs that the majority of Christian settle with. Both their perspectives represent misinterpreted forms that can be organized and interpreted through the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. In the context of scripture, Johnson states that the Bible is hegemonically masculine. Johnson emphasizes the majority of Christian Bible names and images used for God are masculine and patriarchal. For example, the bible mentions God as the "Father", as "Lord", the "King". These names are gender specific and can affect the viewers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Christian Faith Reflection Paper January 27th, 2015. This is the day that would change my perspective of the Christian faith forever. Let me take you back to the day before. It was a long day and I had just completed yet another day at the prestigious Saint Thomas Academy. Later that evening I had planned to attend tutoring, lift and head home for a prolonged night of study, but this was not the case. As the final bell rang, I became drowsy, nauseous and extremely light headed, and I did what any other cadet would do: take a trip to the nurse's office. It was here where I fell asleep for a little under an hour, and the nurse contacted my mother and I made it home safely. My mom then took my temperature, provided me with aspirin, and sent me to bed. Now, to completely understand the story, I need to describe my family. On my mom's side of the family, we were and are still very close to each other. My cousins and I take tremendous pride and passion in caring for, and spending time with our grandparents. We were especially fond of our great–grandfather, Robert Glockner. He was a WWII veteran, and had German blood, making all conversations interesting! We spent extended amounts of time with him, especially during his later years, but it was I who had the opportunity to build a extravagant relationship with him. We spent countless hours together, him in a comfy bed, and me seated right beside him in an arm chair. He would relive stories from his time in the Navy, and the times when we were young. Though, ... • 9. Athanasius: Modern Day Christian Faith As Christians, it is important to look into the history of the church to examine what the forefathers of the faith have been through in order to bring the Christian religion to where it is today. It is also important to see how the faith has developed over time and how doctrine was written and rewritten. One of the figures that have had an impact on the modern day Christian tradition is Athanasius. Not much is known about Athanasius' early life other than that he was born into a wealthy Christian family in Alexandria somewhere between 293–295 AD which was the time of the Diocletian persecutions (Rearden 2005, p.33). This era was a very depressing time for Christians as Athanasius witnessed many of his fellow Christians martyred for the faith... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 45–46). He believed that the only way that we can know God is by faith alone and therefore know that the Trinity is Holy and three persons in one (Edwards 2014, p. 46). He states that even though humans may not understand how or why the world exists, they can still know that it does through faith just as it is with God (Edwards 2014, p. 46). They cannot understand in total who God is but they can know that He does exist (Edwards 2014, p. 46). Athanasius did extensive study on the Trinity and came to the conclusion that the Trinity was indeed homoiosius, meaning that they were all of the same substance, and that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit were the same deity (notes). When someone is baptized, they are initialized into the Trinity so therefore if a person denies the Trinity they also deny the unity of baptism (Edwards 2014, p.59). It was Athanasius' mission to prove the Trinity was real which he reflected in many of his letters. He showed how we cannot comprehend every idea in whole but we can have faith that God's word is true and that in it He reveals the three beings in one (Edwards 2014, p.51) Athanasius refers to the Son as the Word and states that in the life of grace, the Word gives the Spirit, who is the "living energy of creation" (Edwards 2014, p.60), to live on earth with God's people and the Father is in the Word (Edwards 2014, p.61). This shows how each part of the Trinity has their own separate role but they are all one and work in accordance with each other. Athanasius, just like Christians today, is faced with opposition on the idea of the Trinity and just like him, Christians today should remain strong in the faith and solidify their ... • 10. Old Testament Of The Christian Faith Raymond Tarango Old testament reflection This Old Testament coarse has given me new insight on the origins of the Christian faith. It has given further explanation on stories I only knew vaguely of. I have a clearer view on the stories of the Old Testament. From god flooding the world to the adversity of the Hebrew people. TheOld Testament coarse has given me new insight on the way I see the Christian faith. In the Old Testament there are many occurrences when god does the bizarre to get his point across. For instance, The flood that obliterated all life from earth except for one family: "Behold, I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And Rahab was saved and accepted by the Israelites why couldn't the other women and children change and accept god also? I know we don't have all the answers but its difficult to comprehend god takes harsh actions sometimes. The story of the Hebrew people is pretty amazing they fail over and over again to fulfill god's wishes but even though they fail got protects them and keeps his promise. The study of the Hebrew people in Old Testament clearly reveals that God has a special place for the people. One verse from Paul from the New Testament now that I have read and studied the old testament is more clear on describing the blessing of the Hebrew people by god and why they are so important , "Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen" (rom 9:4:5). The summary explains the promises and events that were given to the Jews by god. The Jews were unique people who were created by God to be the waterway of divine revelation to the world. From them would come the prophets, the writers of the Old Testament andJesus Christ. The Jews were given the Law of Moses, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Jesus ' Origins Of The Christian Faith Beginning with an example of my problem in Jesus' origins: it is universally accepted in the historical field that Jesus had siblings. An example of source text on this issue would be Mark 6: 1–6. All but one mainstream scholar would suggest that these are true siblings of Jesus, is in to say that they were born of both Mary and Joseph and were either older or younger siblings, or both.8 This of course is not compatible with the Catholic faith. To affirm older siblings ofJesus would be to deny both the Virgin birth and the perpetual virginity of Mary; to affirm younger siblings of Jesus would be to deny the perpetual virginity of Mary only. Both of these options contradict dogmatic pronouncements of the Catholic faith. Richard Bauckham, the one mainstream scholar who denies this approach, offers a different one, though for various reasons it is not an accepted theory in the historical field. He offers the explanation widely found in Eastern Christianity, that Jesus' siblings were children of Joseph from a previous marriage. This solves the problem of the virginity of Mary, but still has problems in Catholicism. The Catholic tradition of the "brothers and sisters of Jesus" is that they are relatives like cousins but not actual siblings and that their mother was actually a disciple of Jesus, meaning Joseph would have to be divorced for this to work, a rather uncomfortable though in Catholic theology. Acceptance of Bauckham's proposal from a Catholic perspective all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case For Biblical... The apologetic method that I lean towards the most is that of the reformed epistemology. According to the text, reformed epistemologists argue that secular thought has placed an undue burden on Christian apologetics It demands that Christians offer proof for their beliefs on pain of being irrational.1 I stand by this view because I recall what Jesus said in John 20:29 "Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Just because one cannot see something does not mean it is not real. Today, many unbelievers want evidence of the existence of God in order for them to believe. Nevertheless, it is easy for us to believe that when we go to our cars that it will start. They imagine that one assumes control while the alternate one drops off. In all actuality, faith and reason cooperate flawlessly to help us know and love our Maker. Numerous Christians see a contention amongst reason and faith. From one perspective, God instructs us to reason (Isaiah 1:18). We are to have a justifiable reason/purpose behind what we accept, and we are to be constantly prepared to impart that motivation to other individuals (1 Peter 3:15). So we endeavor to show unbelievers that our faith in the Scriptures is sensible, legitimized, and intelligently solid. The Bible bodes well. In addition, we should have faith. We should trust God and not incline toward our own particular comprehension (Proverbs 3:5). The Bible lets us know that the "just shall live by faith" (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11). It appears that we should trust God paying little heed to whether His words sound good to our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Christian Faith And The Cross The cross has over the years in the Christian faith been perceived as the major symbol of faith. This is manifested by how it is often strewn in churches, people's clothing like t–shirts, designed as necklaces, and even for some, it is placed as tattoos on their bodies. This means that the cross, which was initially associated with the death of Christ, has today become an image and reminder of hope. That the cross is the focal image for Christians in the church today is no doubt and it is this perception that has stimulated debate over the years. For most Christians, the cross is the essential image that brings trust for the forgiveness of sins and the likelihood of new life. Christ 's death on the cross implies that Christians' sins have been managed and that God 's ability to pardon sin is prospective. Most people have drawn such solace from the image of the cross that they will think of it as a source of violence. Others, on the contrary have raised concerns that the cross has contributed to promoting violence all through the historical backdrop of the Christian congregation. From Constantine 's vision of the cross during the fourth century, to the campaigns in the Middle Ages, Christians have considered the cross as a reason for the utilization of military force, mistreatment, and different types of violence. Most people are expressing their concerns on whether the cross is an intrinsically violent and burdensome image, responsible for the misuse and violence not just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Sermon At The Word Of Faith Christian Church Delivered By... On Tuesday, November 26, I critically listened to a sermon at The Word of Faith Christian Church delivered by Pastor Julius Stephens. It was a regular Tuesday bible study with about eight people. Pastor Stephens 's topic for the day was everybody has a purpose. In this paper, I will critique Pastor Stephens 's sermon based on its introduction, body, delivery, conclusion and finally my overall reaction to his speech. The reason forthe speaker 's sermon was to ensure his audience realizes their worth. Pastor Stephens speech introduction started with an attention–getting device and then followed with a Short anecdote which he used to further explain his topic. He used spoke audaciously, he took risks in saying things that may or may not hurt people 's feelings in order to pass his point effectively. The speaker also made use of transition words this made his sermon coherent. The body of the sermon was mostly centralized on the purpose of each and every one of us in the church, the saying everything happens for a reason and his view on it. He stated that every person in the church has a particular purpose. He used the example of a human 's body stating that every part of the body has particular purposes. He went further to say in the body of Christ some of us maybe the legs, the eyes, the mouth, and the eyes of the church. He said every one of us has a purpose in the church as every part of our body has a particular task to perform. He said those of us who are evangelist are the mouth of the church; he said those of us who are givers are the hands of the church, and those of us who have the money to sponsor the movement of the gospel around the world are the feet. • 16. The Cornerstone of Christian Faith: the Resurrection of Jesus The resurrection of Jesus Christ separates Christianity from all other religions. Christianity without the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is merely one religion among many. "And if Christ is not risen," said the Apostle Paul, "then our preaching is empty and your faith is in vain". (1 Corinthians 15:14) Furthermore, "You are still in your sins!" Paul could not have chosen stronger language. (Mohler) Still, the resurrection of Jesus Christ has been under persistent attacks since the Apostolic age. Why? Because it is the central confirmation of Jesus' identity as the incarnate Son of God, and the ultimate sign of Christ's completed work of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. (Hanegraaff) Finally, the characteristics of Christ's body bear eloquent truth to his physical resurrection. Jesus invited the disciples to examine His resurrected His resurrected body so that they would know beyond the shadow of a doubt that it was the exact same one that had been fatally tormented. He also ate food as proof of the nature of His resurrected body. Jesus provided the final exclamation mark for His physical resurrection by telling the disciples that His resurrected body was comprised of "flesh and bones." The Christian 's Acts Of Faith We've all been there before, searching for something to watch on TV, 500 channels and nothing catches our attention until we hear the yelling of the televangelist, "YOU JUST GOTTA HAVE FAITH! QUIT TRYING TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL! LET GO AND LET GOD!" For some that may be the solution they are searching for. They might be frustrated or let down by their own efforts of understanding. But does faith begin with "letting go (of reason and understanding) and letting God (reveal Himself to us)"? Is there any compatibility between exercising Christian faith and exercising reason? Does reason have a role or should it have a role in the Christian's acts of faith? This has been a topic of discussion throughout history by many great thinkers. I am going to attempt to show that reason has an active role in exercising the Christian faith; at least attempt to show that reason and faith aren't mutually exclusive. I will briefly discuss (1) different views of the philosophical divide taken by philosophizers over the ages (2) and biblical evidence of the use of reason (3) definition of biblical faith. The apparent conflict between faith and reason has brought much trouble to believers and non–believers alike through the centuries. Influences like Immanuel Kant in his Critique of Pure Reason penned these words: "I have therefore found it necessary to deny knowledge in order to make room for faith" (1965, B:XXX) and Soren Kierkegaard held that the absolute limit to which our reason repeatedly is ... Most of the time, these tests are really big. For example, if someone you love gets sick and you want to help, but there is nothing that you can do. This is what happened to me, and it came to me through my mom suffering from a large brain tumor. Through my mother's hardship and my reliance on my Christian faith, I learned important lessons such as, self control, putting all faith in God, and the importance of loving others for who they are. I learned a very influential lesson about self control during this. In May 2016, my mom was diagnosed with a large meningioma covering most of the left side of her brain. • 20. Arguments For Christian Faith Krishna Tikkani THL 1000–H03 3 October 2017 Reasonable Christian Faith Christian faith lies between the two extremes of fideism and rationalism, that is, between faith with no reason and reason with no faith. Scripture, the main source of Christian tradition, provides us with information about God and what it means to be Christian. An analysis of works and arguments by early church fathers offers tools to engage scripture, including levels of belief and defining faith in the context of society and moderation. Specifically, Augustine and McCabe present arguments concerning faith in the validity of scripture and proofs that a belief in Christianity is reasonable and true. Therefore, a valid assertion can be made that reason plays an important and necessary role in Christian faith. In his essay, "Faith in Things Unseen", Augustine argues against the idea that it is irrational to have a belief in things that one cannot see. He discusses how it is normal and legitimate to hold beliefs in the unseen, and that the human mind by default will believe things that are not able to be seen. For example, Augustine uses the idea that most people will trust in the goodwill of their friends, even though goodwill cannot be seen. Furthermore, goodwill and the trust in that goodwill must come before two people can even be friends. Therefore, it is legitimate to have faith in Christian belief as it can be supported by the same reason as friendship, or so Augustine asserts. Along with that faith ... • 21. The Conflict Between Christian Faith And Those Of Islamic... As a global collective, the human past is purely one of conflict. Power struggles are widespread and unique in context, but these struggles are not special in the presence or complexity of the self–versus–other conflict within them. One of the strongest examples for this assertion is the First Crusades. At face value, any observer can immediately take notice of the separation between those of Christian faith and those of Islamic faith. If additional diligence in research is provided, any one of these observers begins to find the endlessly deeper self–versus–other struggles present on both sides, specifically amongst the Christian military. Numerous accounts from Christian actors serve to support this argument; the recorded thoughts of both soldiers and intellectuals detail the surprising amount of divisions between what should be the Christian united. The relationship between the self and the other present in the mindset of the actors of the Crusades shows that a definite, dynamic, yet necessary division between all groups of people exists, no matter the already established bonds of any collective. One of the most complicated pieces to the self–versus–other puzzle is the dynamic nature of its idealistic segregation. Each person involved with the First Crusade had an undeniable loyalty to God. In an effort seemingly meant to cultivate more glory, some saw it fitting to sacrifice established intercommunity bonds for the sake of peer–provided glory. The glory promised by Pope ... The top three denominations of Christianity are, Catholicism, Protestantism, and Pentecostalism/Charismatic. In 2012, roughly 43,000 denominations existed. These three questions, why the multitude of different denominations, does it matter what denomination an individual belongs to, what differences exist between denominations, will be answered. Why does the church have such a multitude of denominations? Just like people always have differences with other people, Christians will contrast from other Christians. With approximately 2.2 billion Christians in the world, that therefore creates a lot of differences in the Christian family, thus creating the 43,000 different denominations. • 24. The Christian Faith One of the foundations of the Christian faith is the belief that God is actively working in His creation. God did not create the world and leave it to its own fate. Instead, God is still actively involved in every part of His creation today. This belief is crucial for the Christian scientists in today's world. Ones who study cells and molecules can discover how astounding and detailed God, the Creator, is with this belief in mind. God is working through his seen and unseen creation. In the tiniest cell, God's workmanship can be displayed. God made each cell to have a specific purpose towards the human body or the plant. Cells and molecules are the work of an intelligent designer and are not random chances. Without God, cells could not accomplish their purpose. God places every gene on DNA and makes the cells come together to form a human. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13, NIV). Through cells and molecules, God creates each unique person on His earth. When a Christian scientist knows God is at work in His creation, they can have a new perspective of cells. They will see cells as the design of God instead of results of randomness. Once they observe and study cells, they can learn more about God. They can learn how detail–oriented and omniscient He is. God is in control not only of the seen world, but also the world we can only see under the microscope! Each cell and molecule are shaped a specific way to carry out a ... There are many views it comes to scripture and science. You can see scripture as having science, but being limited to the time period. Others can say scripture is correct and that you need to believe it (have faith in it), even if modern science disproves it. The stereotypical "worldview" is that science explains it all and religion is outdated. A merging view would try to merge the two together and say science helps explain how God designed and created the world. Scripture can be reconciled with Science using the last view. For example, you could say the Big Bang is the reaction you would expect from God saying "let there be light" or that God made us adaptable (evolution) because He knew the world would be changing. When you view science through the lens of religion, you can come up with many theories on how the two are not mutually exclusion. The reverse has also happened. The world, humans, and the brain are very complex. When studying these structures, it can lead one to believe that they could not happen by accident, but rather by "intelligent design." The limit to intelligent design is it does not point to who the designer is. Scriptures can help point to the designer. This reaches greater complexity when considering the impact of neuropsychology on the Christian faith. People experience God in a plethora of ways, but what about seemingly brain induced experiences? Salzman (2000) describes the journey of Sister John, a nun at the Carmelite convent in Los Angeles. She experiences headaches that develop into deep spiritual episodes, which her doctor later informs her, are the symptoms of her recurring seizures. Sister John has temporal–lobe epilepsy and her doctor explains that it, "tend[s] to be more psychological" (Salzman, 2000, p.68). Sister John's spiritual episodes were presumably caused by her medical condition. So, were all of her spiritual encounters with God a lie? Was her faith a fabrication? The implication of these questions can be quite troubling for the Christian faith. Is God simply a manifestation created within our minds? Objects exist because they exist within the realm of our senses. If we cannot trust our senses, then what truly exists outside of ourselves? Sister John describes a memory of her being drawn into service at the convent. She attended an early morning mass on Christmas Day when something odd happened. • 30. The Reasonableness Of Christian Faith Summa Theologiae was written to display the reasonableness of Christian faith and to train future teachers in guiding others through Christianity, (Lecture, 11.14.2016) whereby one ultimately reaches true happiness. While Christians steadily find pleasure in their acceptance of God, Aquinas maintains that perfect happiness is distinct from this, both in what it entails and how it is achieved. Aquinas believes that humans cannot be entirely happy until fully understanding God, the original cause of their own being, which is impossible until reuniting with God in life after death. Humans cannot be truly happy until their intellect is fulfilled, which is only possible through understanding God. The human intellect instinctively seeks to understand the cause of things, and will not be satisfied simply knowing that such a cause exists (S.Th. II, Q.3, A.8). Aquinas is optimistic about the ability of human reason, and believes that unassisted logic can reveal and defend crucial platforms of the Christian faith, such as God's existence (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). God is demonstrated fore mostly through His creations, including humans themselves and their intellects (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). "Since every effect depends upon its cause," (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2) a human's awareness of their own life on earth subsequently proves the life of some entity which has caused the human to be. Close to the end of the 11th century was the time in which the First Crusade had begun. The Islamic and Christian faith had similar views toward Jerusalem as their Holy Land. In 1095, Pope Urban II called for the first crusade to then later claim the land of Jerusalem from the Muslims. As time went on, the Saracens rebelled against the Crusaders in defense of their culture and rights. The theme of crusades is vividly discussed in literature with a various number of viewpoints in regards to the reasoning and background of these historical events. The thought process behind the Crusades and the motive to push this war into action was originally believed that it was for the sake of preserving sacredness of religions, but in reality, the reasoning is much further from the truth than one would think and the terrible outcomes of it are even greater. he Crusades was not a rational movement that could easily be explained purely because of it economical or territorial ambition, neither would it be explained due to a clashing or rights and interests. Both the Christians and Muslims were fueled by myths and passions that were far more effective in getting people to act than any political matter would. And so the years of war have followed. My faith journey has been a long, gradual process of learning to know and follow Jesus as I grew up in a local Mennonite church and a Christian family. The transition of going to college has pushed me the most. Having independence put me in the situation to make all of my own choices. Do I wake up and go to church? Do I go to chapel? How do I navigate choices around alcohol use or dating? How does my faith inform these areas of life? I take the answers to these questions seriously. One of the areas where I have grown and continue to grow is through the classes I have taken. My classes have pushed me to consider what I believe and why I accept certain things as true. My concentration on peace and conflict studies often leads to meaningful class discussions where I am challenged to connect my faith to politics, economics, social issues, and conflicts around the world. I believe that it is important to actively live out a lifestyle that can be seen in Jesus's teachings and the way he lived his life. I also look towards others who have a good grasp on what Christianity means. I am fortunate enough to have many friends and family who represent how you can live a life of following Jesus. • 33. The Christian Faith Since The Reformation Of Luther Spener, like Luther, saw a need to reform what was there in the way of religious faiths. And like Luther, his intentions were not to remake the faith but to simply bring it back to where it belonged. Unlike the reformation of Luther, which failed to reform the Catholic Church and ended up splitting into the Protestant Church, Spener spent his time within the Protestant Church to reform the way people lived and thought. Arguably, the Pia Desidria that Spener wrote turned out to be the greatest paper to further the Christian faith since the Bible itself. Pietism is a movement that happened in the seventeenth and eighteenth century within Protestantism. By the end of the seventeenth century Protestantism had fallen away from its focus on Christ and a person's walk with Him and had fully submersed itself in to religious dogma. The movement started with one man, Philip Spener, growing up with a strong religious background and the writings of Johann Arndt, Spener went to the University of Strassburg. While attending school at Strassburg, he was taught by professors that justification by faith was more than just a doctrine but a spiritual rebirth. After spending three years in a pastorate at Strassburg, Spener went to Frankfort. Upon his arrival, he was shocked by the conditions of the town and abandoned traditional doctrine and started preaching from the entire Bible. After he preached from the Sermon on the Mount in 1669, the response from the people was very surprising. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a doctrine in Christian theology, the divine foreordaining of all that will happen, especially with regard to the salvation of some and not others. It has been particularly associated with the teachings of St. Augustine of Hippo and of Calvin. Let's break this definition down even a bit more. First, a doctrine is a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church, political party, or other group, which makes since because we are talking about Christian Theology. St. Augustine helped form the idea of Neoplatonism. There are many different views of what actually predestination means and how literal is should be taken. Limited View In the New Testament, the word "predestined" is used six times in six different verses of the bible. In Ephesians one five, it says, "He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will." Now how do we interpret that? Do we take it in the literal sense that he actually chooses certain people to have a chance, and all others, no matter what they do, will live without him in eternity? • 36. Non Christian Faith Research Paper "Faith...is the art of holding on to things your reason once accepted, despite your changing moods (Lewis 1952)." C.S. Lewis in his writings on faith and reasoning there are inherent ideals that when becoming a Christian are understood. Prior to belief, a person's deeper meaning of faith cannot be understood. Unbelievers can only have a certain amount of trust in that faith; however, it is purely practical on the part of the non–Christian. As Lewis comments in his writings, there are just certain trials and tribulations in a person's life that come and go, and then they will have to reach outside of themselves to a power higher to understand what it all means. Faith and Christianity are both foundations of beliefs to build a framework upon; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In having a healthy bond with our creator; we in turn, have one with his creation. Humans fail in a relationship with God, as Lewis follows up by adding that "..if you are right with Him you will inevitably be right with all fellow–creatures.. (Lewis, Faith 2002)". God's way is a moral path, it will take effort, resolve and reason to maneuver your way through this life. Faith is rational; whereas, our hearts can be emotional and deceitful. In Jeremiah 17:9, it states the heart can be wicked and sick, and that can cause us to doubt our faith and lead us to not know what truth is. Reason is what we can lean back into with the grace of faith to show us the truth. Lewis continues throughout his text to points out that with faith in God; as you might expect, good works will follow. Moods and failure will come, thus making it harder to sometimes just take a leap of faith; or in turn, to remove intellectual obstacles to have faith in God. As Christians we must be instructed in the scriptures and established in the reasoning that is our faith. The subject for the day was whom God was talking about when he promised eternal life. The discussion became a debate, everyone started giving their beliefs and Steve would let them know if he agreed with them or not. Something else I found interesting somewhere the conversation switched to why other religions did not make any sense. I have never been in a church where another religion was being talked about. However, that was not the most intense nor interesting moment for me. I was the only African American person in the room which, did not bother me until race came up, awkwardly. Steve quoted a line from the movie The Help "You is kind. You is smart. You is important." I did not give this much thought other than the fact he just quoted a great movie. However, a member of the church turned to me and said "oh don't worry, we're not racist we're not like that around here". I said "I'm sorry?" Then she says "oh, Steve quoted a black movie and I don't want you to worry." At this point, I was beyond ready to go. Overall, I think the Expressions church is a great place for its members. After interacting with a few of the members I could tell that the church is truly a family. However, as an outsider and guess I did not feel welcomed nor would I like to ... In chapters 1–8 Paul discusses the fundamentals and the foundation of Christian faith. Looking for things through the text in the Romans such as (1) the natural world, (2) human identity, (3) human relationships, and (4) culture. The first thing is the natural world. In the natural world it is full of sin, murder and crime are being committed even back in Romans. During Paul's days was full of sin. We see sinners worship the creation but to the creator. There were sins that were being committed back then that are still being committed till this day. When reading Romans first off it was a little bit confusing at first but after rereading it it started to become more clear that the Romans in the past worshiped many gods. They were trying to gain the love and hopes from the people in their town. The writer of Romans Paul wanted to cover this due to he believed he saw the issues within the Roman society and so he addressed it with the church. • 39. Essay on The Place of Scripture in Christian Faith As part of revivals in Christian faith during 18th century onward three practices evolved into their own interpretation on the place and authority of Scripture in the Christian faith. The first of these were the Liberals who "viewed themselves as the saviors of a defunct out of date Christianity" (Bingham 149). Their founder, Friedrich Schleiermacher an 18th century pastor, "did not view traditional, authoritative doctrines, creeds and biblical texts as the preeminent sources in theology (150). Instead the Liberal perspective of Christianity put more emphasis on the doctrines of sin and grace and less attention on the holiness of the trinity (Kerr 213). Jesus was viewed as a historical figure that we can learn from spiritually and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Neo–Orthodoxical view on faith is that it "is a step into the unknown, made on the basis of that which is already known. Faith is neither totally rational nor totally irrational" (Lane 270). Following this is then the concept that knowing all of Christian history or knowledge of the Bible does not equal faith (270). Those of the Neo–Orthodox faith believe that "the Bible is the word of God only in the sense that it witnesses to the past event of God speaking and that God again speaks through it today" (275). Because God speaks throughout the Bible and is the living word it should be viewed as a whole that spreads the message of Jesus Christ (Kantzer 19). The Neo–Orthodox movement sought to enforce the Bible as the eternal word of God and his only as the guidance for our walk in faith and a manual of sorts to seek Him and reach heaven. As each different theological movement evolved and became a form of Christian practice there followed the good and the bad aspects of each. The Liberalist did well to become a part of society and distance themselves from the strict and traditional practices of Christianity. Although with this new adaption of the faith they lost part of the meaning of being a Christian. Liberalist placed more emphasis on faith and with this they "taught the love of God but denied his holy wrath against sin – thus ending with a sentimental concept of love" (Lane 271). Because the element of feeling and only the example of Christ as a model ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Christian Faith Research Paper While going through your senior year of high school you quickly begin to hate the questions; "What college are you going to?" and "What major are you planning on pursuing?" I got asked these questions countless times over the course of the past year. The first question, "What college are you going to?" was the easiest of them all. The very moment I stepped onto Butler's campus I knew it was the place I was meant to be. And while I thought the second question, "What major are you planning on declaring?" was also a simple question to answer, I soon found my once easy answer of being a pharmacy major was slipping through my fingertips once I moved in and was an official bulldog. Everything I had planned for myself was quickly disappearing into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before going to Mishawaka Marian, my local Catholic high school, church and God seemed more like a chore than anything. But through those four years, I know that by going through Marian I've gained a much deeper knowledge of Christ and how to see him working in my life daily. I've had several deep and personal encounters with God and it is through those encounters that I was brought closer to Him and the Christian faith. The most important event that solidified my faith happened first semester of my junior year, when my family got a call from our local hospital saying my grandma was struck by a car and on her way to the emergency room. My whole family's life was turned upside down by one phone call and things are forever different because of it. Several broken ribs, a broken hip, a major concussion, endless doctors' appointments and hospital visits later, my grandma was finally back home. We slowly and thankfully began to put the event behind us, but the effect it left on my family will never be able to be put away. Throughout this seemingly endless incident, I learned how important family truly is. I learned great responsibility, how to give and receive help, and not to take a single thing for granted because it could all be gone in just one second. I also felt myself grow nearer to God through this stressful and tragic experience. When you feel like you are alone and have no one to turn to, turn to God. Through Him I am courageously finding my path because I know and trust that God will never leave my side. Through all of these life experiences and memories along the way, I've learned so much about myself, how the world works, how God works in my life and where I can begin to see myself fitting into it. It is important to realize that it is through the bad times that we learn the most and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Church Of The Christian Faith "Wesley believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason." Stephen Gunter writes, "Perhaps no theological topic has been the focus of more debate with The United Methodist Church over the past quarter century than the 'Wesleyan Quadrilateral '" . It should be noted that John Wesley never used the term Wesleyan Quadrilateral to describe his process of theological affirmation. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral has been misinterpreted to mean four equal sides; however, it was never meant to be understood that way. Scripture is always the most essential authority for determining our beliefs and practices. The Bible was so important to John Wesley 's faith that he referred to himself as homo unius libri or a man of one book (The Bible). John Wesley believed that Scripture was the primary source for theological reflection and Scripture should be read and interpreted in context and as a whole. The role of tradition in Methodist theological thinking is another important aspect of the "Quadrilateral". Ted Campbell writes, "Methodism, Wesley claimed, was in continuity with 'the religion of the Bible, the religion of the primitive Church, [and] the religion of the Church of England '" . John Wesley was trying to illustrate that the tradition and history of the Church is vital to the understanding of our theology. The apostolic church 's beginning is something that we should be ... • 42. My Understanding Of Family Life And The Meaning And... As a child I regularly listened to the radio broadcasts provided by the conservative Christian organization, Focus on the Family–both the daily broadcast on family issues and the weekly broadcast of the radio drama for children, Adventures in Odyssey. My understanding of family life and the meaning and content of Christian faith was heavily influenced by these broadcasts. I listened carefully to the dangers of straying beyond the strict confines of conservative Christian morality, and I can still hear the emphatic tone of voice in which Dr. Dobson warned his listeners that the process of falling in love that begins with holding hands will inevitably "end up in bed" if nothing is done to stop it. Adventures in Odyssey was entertaining and funny, with engaging characters and high quality production and story editing. I enjoyed listening to the adventures and getting to know the characters. It was only later in life that I began to sort out the potentially damaging messages within the drama from the more simple moralistic ideas of parental love and good behavior. I still like to listen at times, for nostalgia's sake, but I am increasingly concerned by how the blithe and joyful nature of the program masks what frequently amounts to bigotry, ignorance, and intolerance. I am grieved that such a special part of my childhood is turning into something that is little better than a propaganda tool for extreme right–wing Christianity. Given this observation, perhaps I should not have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
