The Causes Of The Korean War
The Korean War was both an internal conflict for the Korean people as while as a conflict that impacted the rest of the world; especially affecting
Eastern Asia. This war (occurring from June 25th 1950 – July 27th 1953) was caused by the differing political opinions of the northern and southern
regions of Korea and was what eventually caused the split of the once unified country of Korea into North Korea and South Korea respectively. Both
sides of the country believed that the country as a whole should be treated and ruled differently, and the once invisible split in the country became an
actual boundary when things couldn't be settled between the two. Doesn't help that each faction (half) believed believed that they were "the true"
rulers of Korea and that they would be the ones to make the law. Imagine if the once political split between the north and southern parts of America
during the civil war caused us to become two separate countries as we fought over the leadership of the entire country. This is basically what was
happening in the Koreas. This war basically never ended as both of the Koreas still have many conflicts today and nothing was really ever resolved as
they didn't have never become unified again. The political difference between both the north and south was polarizing. The north leaned towards the
communist side of things, following very closely in the footsteps of the People's Republic of China, while the southern part was far more pro–western.

The Cultural Globalization of Korean Phenomenon: Korean Pop Music
Multicolored pants, synchronized leg and arm movements, doll–like features, and screaming fans – at first glance of a 2012 performance of "Gee",
9–member girl group Girls' Generation appear as your friendly girls–next–door. Upon further research, it becomes apparent that this South Korean girl
group ranks as one of the highest revenue–earning legacies in girl group history, earning over 21 billion won in the first three quarters of 2011.
Alongside Girls' Generation, comedic singer Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video has generated 2.5 billion views and Korean boy group Big Bang has
generated a revenue of 44 million dollars in 2016. The rise of the Korean pop industry and global phenomenon is most notably attributed to several
factors: creators, distribution, consumers, and content. Most interestingly, the prominence of K–pop music and artists on consumer goods,
advertisements, social media, and daily life, has profoundly influenced ideological standards of domestic and international culture. With technology,
social media, training programs, and international popularity, the Korean pop music industry has played a significant role in shifting consumerism,
standards of beauty, gender and societal roles, music production trends, international culture, and the future of the industry as a whole.

Financial Crisis in South Korea

South Korea's current account balance started to deteriorate in 1990, due to the rising inflation, appreciation of the Korean won and the recession of
the world economy. In 1991 the current account recorded a deficit of $8.7 billion, which was more than four times the level of the preceding year. The
Korean government encouraged capital inflows in order to finance the growing current account deficit. To achieve this objective, capital account
liberalisation was accelerated in 1991by altering the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

The asset value declined further.
Many businesses failed to guarantee returns and profitability. Due to the high rates of economic growth and the booming economy, private firms and
corporations looked to finance speculative investment projects. However, firms overstretched themselves and a combination of factors caused
depreciation in the exchange rate as they struggled to meet the payments.
The South Korean corporate governance structure was known for its technical and ethical inefficiency well before the crisis. The existence of a small
number of large business conglomerates, chaebols, is widely considered to be one of the biggest problems in South Korean society. This governance
system was fertile ground for inefficiency and corruption. A study shows that only 27percent of the 570 non–financial firms created shareholder value
during the five years before the crises.
The South Korean conglomerates were more or less completely controlled by the government and simply absorbed growing capital investment.
Eventually, excess debt led to key failures and takeovers. In the midst of the Asian market downturn,South Korea's credit rating was lowered on 28
November 1997 and downgraded again on 11 December. That contributed to an additional decline in South Korean shares since stock markets were
already bearish in November.

Abstract In this research paper I will be analyzing the cultural perspectives of doing business in South Korea. In doing so, I will be answering the four
major questions as it relates to the major Elements and Dimensions of culture in South Korea. Also, since the dimensions of culture in any nation are
many, it is necessary to analyze each category that makes up the Dimensions of one's culture, these categories have been in place for many years in
any given country. If we simply consider the Dimensions of Culture in the United States alone, which range from Religion to our Ethical standards, it
would be clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is relevant to this Business Cultural Analysis, because if the United States is building more military bases in South Korean, the U.S. must still
consider the Dimensions of the South Koreans Culture in order to further their objective in that nation. After all, South Korea is not the United States,
which means the Dimensions of their culture would not be the same as the United States. The major elements and dimensions of culture in South
Korea would be as follows:
Religion In South Korea like any other nation, Religion is a very delicate area that needs to be considered before embarking on business
opportunities in that nation. Because of the sensitive nature that Religion brings to business, when considering a country to do business in, one must
tread lightly, being careful not to infringe on a group of peoples Religious rights. As it relates to South Korea, it is made up of various Religious
groups, and there is a little over 65% of the population of the Republic of Korea that are members of an organized religion.
Christianity According to World Population Statistics, it points out that the largest organized religious group in South Korea is Christianity, (World
Population Statistics, 2013). Christianity is based on the principle that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who actually suffered and died on a cross. After
dyeing on the cross, Jesus was

Cold War Dbq
The Cold War was not much a war, but rather a time of tension after World War II between the Capitalist bloc and Communist bloc between
1945–1991. Some important nations during the Cold War were the United States, Soviet Union, and Japan, and there was much tension between
especially the Soviet Union and the United States. One of the important wars during this period of tension was the Korean War, lasting from June 1950
to July 1953. This war began due to North Korean forces launching an attack on South Korea, and the United States aiding the Southern nation. The
North Korean forces marched to Seoul, and the United States called for military aid for South Korea. This resulted in the prompting of Chinese
Communist Forces, which increased the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to a devastating result; approximately 5 million people lost their lives total after the 3 year war. Out of the troops that were in South Korea,
the United States had sent in over 90% of them, which helped them to not be conquered by the Communist North Koreans and Communism. Many
United States soldiers, approximately 7,800, "are still unaccounted for from the Korean War as of April 2015" (CNN.com). A little less than 54,000
casualties had been reported to have also lost their lives; however, this was as of June 2000. The Cold War was a period of tension that affected the
Koreans along with the Soviet Union and the United States, and North Korea and South Korea were areas in which the superpowers backed the
Northern half and the Southern half, respectively. In order to take over South Korea, Japanese Communists were sent into the nation, and Soviet
Communists had started to cut communications at the 38th parallel. North Korean forces, led by Kim Il Sung, made their way towards South Korea
on June 25, 1950. The United States and President Truman had wasted no time in order to help South Korea from their Northern rivals. The Soviet
Union provided weapons to North Korea, which had an effect on the amount of American soldiers had lost their lives. Also, the effect of the
communication cutoff was not good for South Korea as it showed the capabilities of the Soviet Union. The North Korean forces had an impactful
effect as it displayed that the

The Legacy Of South Korea
Have you ever visited a different country, or a city even, and been completely bewildered? Have you had a specific image in your head of how a
certain culture lives and acts? A country can be judge and defined by its modern culture and most tend to do just that, but its past is where its real truth
lies. To fully understand and know any country, one must travel deeper and discover its true roots.
In the majority of countries, the historical events greatly contribute to how the culture evolved into the present day, and how its people grew through
the years, into what has become known as the society of today. South Korea is no stranger to this and they continue to preserve its historic landmarks
with pride. Although most of South Korea 's history is clouded by conflict, the struggles the people have endured have only united them as one, and has
helped shape the country into a great nation which the citizens are proud of. The citizens of South Korea have seen their country beaten, conquered,
divided, and still refused to let out the cry of defeat and abandon their homeland.
Having various ways to travel around the country, no other means of transportation is as common as the train system. There are designated seats for the
elderly, pregnant women, and handicapped, but if those seats were to fill up quickly, the younger generation is taught to give up their seat immediately
and allow them to sit. Koreans genuinely respect their elders, because they know their present day

Pop Music And Its Impact On South Korea Essay
K–pop is a musical genre originating in South Korea that is characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements. Although it comprises all genres
of "popular music" within South Korea, the term is more often used in a narrower sense to describe a modern form of South Korean pop music
covering a wide range of styles including dance–pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, metal, hip–pop music and R&B. K–pop gaining popularity in East
Asia in the late 1990s, and spreading to whole Asia and World, via the Hallyu culture. K–pop, J–pop and C–pop become to the leading musical
category in Asia. The biggest four entertainment company in Korea are SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment and FNC
Entertainment. Korean pop culture is becoming an increasingly global phenomenon, caused in part by the K–pop industry 's adeptness at tapping into
social networking services and the video sharing platform YouTube. Since the mid–2000s, the K–pop music market has experienced double digit
growth rates. In the first half of 2012, it grossed nearly US$3.4 billion and was recognized by Time magazine as "South Korea 's Greatest Export".
The History The history of Korean popular music can be traced back to 1885 when an American missionary, Henry Appenzeller started teaching
American and British folk songs at a school. These songs were called changga in Korean, and they were typically based on a popular Western melody
sung with Korean lyrics. The well–known song "Oh My Darling,

Therefore, an English interpreter would be necessary. Apparently in Korean culture, less is more when trying to communicate. The person who initiates
the bow must say "Man–na–suh pan–gop–sumnida". This means in Korean "I'm pleased to meet you". One vital thing to remember when discussing
with Koreans is that the person must talk directly with clarity as Koreans unfavour having to ask questions again or need more clarity in speech.
Most Iranians speak Persian, the national language of Iran. Just like Korea, a language interpreter is essential for business dealings. When

general things, they like to take their time into doing so. Decisions are also taken slowly as well as Iranians to become satisfied with foreign

Japan 's Influence On Japanese Culture
My assign project is in the country of Korea. Korea has had an enormous amount of influence on Japanese culture. It all originated in the Korean

History and outside influence also had an impact on Korean food. During the 20th century, China was the most powerful and advanced country in
East Asia. Because of this, China has been influencing its neighboring Asian countries like their government, culture, and food. One the most
influential items that were passed down by China is rice. Rice has now been one of the most major grain crops in Korea. Furthermore, Korea is
mostly surrounded by water, fishing has been a huge part of Korea's economy and that seafood has been favored by many Koreans for generations.
Weather is also the influential factors of Korean dish. Fermented dishes such as kimchi is a Korean cuisine that is traditional side dish made from
salted and fermented vegetables such as cabbage and radishes. Doenjang or soybean paste is a fermented bean paste made from soybean and brine.
These two dishes are very popular because people enjoyed them throughout the freezing climates.
The main belief in South Korea is Buddhism. According to 2005 study about the statistic, Korea of religious groups 43% are Buddhism, 34.5% are

North Korea Ethical Issues
The 2018 Winter Olympics are scheduled to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea; directly bordering the hermit kingdom of North Korea. Based on
prior and present tensions between the two countries (Korean War, 1950–1953), it begs the question of what extent will North Korean art, philosophies,
and ethics have on the 2018 Olympics. In more recent times, North Korea has become more vocal about its actions such as the building of its military,
weapons, and possibly the Sony Pictures Entertainment hack (Levs, 2014). However, there is still a substantial lack of information on North Korean
culture and mindset due to their secrecy. Solely looking at art, philosophies, and ethics, North Korea will have next to no effect on the 2018 Olympics.

Relating back to art, North Korean citizens only get to see the art that is approved and published by the North Korean government in accordance to
their terms (Jeong & Lee, 2009). The ethics in North Korea are heavily decided by what the government decides to be moral and immoral (Yang,
2013). North Korean citizens from early ages are taught what is good, bad, moral, and immoral. For example, they are taught in a way that portrays
the government and Kim Jong Un in a positive light, while capitalism and democracy is portrayed in a much more negative light (Jeong & Lee, 2009).
The ethics of North Korea could possibly come into play when the Olympics are held, but it would not truly affect the actual games to any extent.
North Korea's arts, philosophies, and ethics will have next to no effect on the 2018 Winter Olympics. An argument could be made for other lenses, but
for these lenses specifically, the answer is that there will be next to no effect. Based on these lenses,South Korea and other countries should not be

How Did The Cold War Affect The Korean War
On June 25th, 1950, the Korean war began. About 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean army crossed the 38th parallel, the border separating North
and South Korea. Undivided, Korea was a Japanese colony, until the end of World War II in 1945. But after WWII, Korea was poured into the hesitant
hands of the United States, and the exhilarated hands of the Soviet Union. It was then divided into North, occupied by the Soviets, and South, occupied
by the United States. The Soviet Union was running North Korea as a communist dictatorship, dictated by Kim Il Sung, and the United States was
running South Korea as an anti–communist dictatorship, dictated by Syngman Rhee. Kim Il Sung wanted unification of the Korea's, however he
wanted a communist government, which the nationalist government of South Korea did not see eye to eye with. So Kim Il Sung had attempted to
force communism by invading South Korea across the 38th parallel. This invasion was the first military action of the Cold War. This event affected the
world in many ways, and still is today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
America entered the Korean War because they feared that this was not just a border dispute, but rather the first step to communism overthrowing the
world. President Harry Truman believed that that if the North, supplied by the Soviets, had consumed South Korea, they wouldn't stop there. They
would do everything in their power to spread communism as far as they could. Finally, President Truman and General Douglas MacArthur decided to
liberate Northern Korea from the communists. Because of this, China began to feel threatened. They felt as if it was "armed aggression against
Chinese territory." So they decided to to send some of their troops to North Korea to warn the United States to stay away from the Yalu boundary, the
border between China and North Korea. Because the Soviet Union and China were on the same side, the Soviet Union began to supply them for

State Institutions Are Different For North And South Korea.
State institutions are different for North and South Korea. South Korea offers universal healthcare to its citizens and strongly protects private property
rights ("South Korea" 2017). Although North Korea claims it offers universal healthcare, reports have stated that it does not; also, almost all property
is owned by the state ("North Korea" 2017). Corruption is extremely high in North Korea compared to South Korea and there is also no effective tax
system ("North Korea" 2017). The North Korean government controls all economic activity and most industries that account for the GDP are owned
by the state ("North Korea" 2017).

North Korea has a state–led, highly centralized economy because its government is the dominating force in all aspects of the country (Park 2004). In
the beginning of its formation, North Korea practically banned all markets and was run by select bureaus and elites. As years passed, there has been
slightly more freedom given to the people through various reforms in order to help the dwindling economy stabilize (Park 2004). South Korea has a
much more successful, open, and market–based economy. However, most of it is dominated by large and centralized business groups, called chaebols
(Campbell II and Keys 2002). North Korea has about 14 million people in its labor force out of a population of 25 million with about 63% of those
people working in industry and services while 37% work in agriculture ("Korea, North" 2017). On the other hand, South Korea has a larger labor
force of 27.25 million because of a significantly larger population of 50.9 million ("Korea, South" 2017). Almost all of the labor force, about 94.4%,
work in services and industry while only 5.7% of people work in agriculture ("Korea, South" 2017). This is because South Korea's main focus and

The Forgotten War: The Korean War
The Korean War or better known as the forgotten war, was fought from 1950 to 1953. Being sandwiched between World War II and the war in
Vietnam it is often overlooked. After World War II, Korea was split into a communist government in the north and a more democratic government in the
south. On June 25, 1950 North Korean soldiers marched into South Korea and captured their capital, Seoul. The U.S. and the United Nations sent
thousands of soldiers to defend South Korea. The Chinese backed North Korea and soon both sides were in the hills at the 38th Parallel. This imaginary
line split the North from the South and the war continued in the hills from 1951 to 1953. Finally, in July of '53 prisoners were exchanged and the
fighting stopped.

South Korea 's 1998 ' Sunshine Policy
South Korea's 1998 "Sunshine Policy" was intended to alleviate historical strain and improve political communication with North Korea. By
encouraging collaboration and providing economic support, South Korean President Kim Dae Jung hoped to rebuild broken connections with North
Korea with the end goal of peaceful co–existence. In response to this new foreign policy and prospect of reunification, many South Korean directors
took matters into their own hands and started to experiment with films that featured both North and South Korean characters. Two such directors were
Kang Je–gyu and Park Chan–wook, who both used military films to express their opinions on joint North and South Korea relations. Since the two
countries have historically been separate, the interesting challenge that Directors Je–gyu and Chan–wook had to face was how to incorporate both
parties using filmic aspects of misГ©–en–scene. For example, should both characters appear in the same shots and frames? Should the South Korean
characters get more screen time than their North Korean counterparts? In order to address this challenge, the directors had to consider the three
manifestations of space: liminality, interstitiality, and marginality. In his Betwixt and Between: The Liminal Period in Rites de Passage, Victor Turner,
the father of interpretive anthropology, loosely defines these terms in the context of two separate communities. A 'liminal individual' does not occupy a

Korean War : The Cold War
At the mid–point of the century that had already seen two appallingly destructive and costly World wars, just as the Cold War between the Soviet
Union and the United States broke due to their ideological differences after World War II, in the midst of the Cold War was the Korean War. The
Korean War began on June 25, 1950 when the North Korean People's Army poured across the 38th parallel, a border between South and North Korea,
to attack South Korea. The size of the war quickly grew as it began to involve countries like China, Soviet Union, and the United States. With nothing to
show rather than early back–and–forth across the 38th parallel between the two sides, the Korean War marked its end in July 1953 with about 5 million
losses of soldiers and innocent civilians during the war. Korean peninsula still divided today, one must understand how Korean War marks a significant
turning point in the context of international order and relations, and the American foreign policies. During the 1950s, the Korean War was
tremendously significant as it marked the first concrete war against communism as well as revealing inconsistencies in American foreign policy. During
the 1940s and 1950s, before and after the Korean War began, the U.S.' securitized and perceived threats from communism led to paranoid American
society. As the World War II ended, democratic United States and the communist Soviet Union engaged in a series of political and economic clashes

The Korean War started when the communist North Koreans sent troops into the non communist South Koreans. When this happened North Korea

lives of many more North and South Koreans. After World War II Korea was taken away from Japan, Korea would no longer be ruled by Japan. The
reason it was taken away, is because Japan only got to rule it because they had more men, so they took Korea by force. The soviets wanted to have part

The representatives from each country met for dinner, and started discussing ways they could have peace once again. All of the soldiers started
celebrating that the war might be over, but that never happened, the two countries were willing to fight to the death to have total control over the

the UN, and the Sourth Koreans signed a truce. That truce would divide the country in two and they would officially be two seperate countries. They
also said that any acts of aggression from the North Koreans would not be tolerated. They said that all of the armies that signed it would be on high

South Korea is one of the strongest economies in the Asia. Economic growth is mainly driven by manufacturing and exports. Exports include
automobile, semiconductors, computers, steel and petrochemicals. Imports include heavy machinery, steel and oil. According to Economy Watch,
South Korea is the world 's 5th largest importer of oil, with 3 million barrels per day (4).
Major Trading Partners
Korea has very strong trade relations with major world economic powers. David, a contributor to Top Foreign Stocks reported that the biggest trading
partners of South Korea are China, followed by the European Union, United States and Japan (3). Major export markets are the European Union, United
States, China, and Japan. Foreign Exchange Reserve and Current Account Surplus
Korea is one of the few countries that has been enjoying a balance of payment surplus for a long period. The following graph based on the World
Bank data, shows current account surpluses from 2005 to 2012. According to the Bank of Korea, current account surplus for 2013 is estimated to be
around $32 billion (5). This would have a strong effect on the Korean Won. Similarly, foreign exchange reserve continued to grow, except for a
notable decline in 2008. As reported by Reuters, by the end of 2012, South Korea's total foreign exchange reserve was more than $326 billion,

Korean War Dbq Essay
Counting the years, it is necessary to mention that it passed more than sixty years since the beginning of the war on the Korean peninsula. Throughout
the war, many individuals has different interpretations on how the war really went down. Some blamed the United States for causing the war, however
Brian Myers looked further and discovered that originally they (the people) did not blame America for starting the war. The only reason why theUnited
States got involved in the Korean War was to provide aid to South Korea. The Americans aligned with the Korean conservatives in the South, while the
Soviets sided with the liberals in the North. Undergoing and visualizing all of the facts that was provided proves how the Korean War began and who
really started it. Afterall, the relationship between North Korea and the United States isn't a steady relationship due to the fact that both countries don't
see eye to eye on certain agreements.
In Source B, it demonstrates how North Korea was the one to blame for starting the Korean War because the North Korean army crossed the 38th
parallel that divides the Korean peninsula. North Korea captured Seoul within days. However South Korea, along with other nations, recognized that
attack as the start of the three–year Korean War. Along... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was known as the Truman Doctrine. This meant that if a Capitalist country (South Korea) was being attacked, it was America's duty to give
military and economic aid. In addition, the United States would fear the "domino effect" this was where communism/USSR would take over one
country after another. Also Mao had won the Chinese Civil War by 1949 and China had become communism. This led the people to believe that
America was weak and could stop communism. This would of lead to America having to prove themselves by not only pushing back communism, but

It is the 20th century, the USA and USSR are at the brink of nuclear war. Nobody knows what happens next... It is after World War II. Germany was
split into 4. And Later West Germany and East Germany. West is capitalist and East is communist. The USA and USSR both have a different way of
economy. Now the USSR wants to spread communism across the world. Now we all know that the USA eventually won and stopped most of
communism by 1991. But this begs the question, If the USA failed containment, would the domino theory be correct? For example, The USSR
decided one day to blockade West Germany from supplies in order to get them to surrender. Now, the USA then did something called the Berlin Airlift,
which planes flew through West Germany and gave supplies to the West Germans. For instance, in Document B, the west was planning to surrender
since they did not have enough food or supplies to survive. But the USA came in to give food to contain communism, which shows that the USA will
be willing to do anything to contain communism. To summarize, On June 27, 1948 Stalin and the USSR blockaded... Show more content on

The USSR pressured North Korea to invade South Korea, later they decided to attack. Now in Document C, The North Korean troops invaded South
Korea and almost won the war, then the USA came in to support South Korea. Which after the USA came in, they pushed the North Koreans to the
Yalu River. Since the ally of North Korea, China was concerned, they joined in and pushed the UN troops back to 38th Parallel. Then after some
fighting, it ended in a stalemate. This also shows USA's way of containing communism since South Korea was about to fall to communism and the
domino theory might of worked. To quickly summarize. The North Korean army attacked South Korea and almost made it communist, later the USA
joined and pushed them to Yalu river. Then China joined and pushed them to the 38th parallel. Later, it ended in a

Wal–Mart had a very sophisticated IT infrastructure in place to help integrated its suppliers into its supply chain. This IT system was a source of
competitive advantage for Wal–Mart in the US allowing it to be a top notch negotiator and lower prices from vendors (Kim R. B., 2008). In Korea,
however, Wal–Mart met with resistance from its distributors regarding integration into the IT system and ultimately did not create a nation–wide
distribution network. (Kim R. B., 2008) The managerial style of Wal–Marts executives, especially their direct demands for lowering prices while
negotiating and having distributors pay to have their wares displayed in good shelf space were direct causes for the soured relations between
Wal–Mart and its vendors in Korea (Chang, 2008).
Wal–Mart strategy in the US was to have price dominance. In Korea, not only could they not achieve consistent price dominance due to soured vendor
relations, price dominance is not a very good strategy. Koreans cared more about service and convenience and the warehouse look did not convey
saving to them. (Gandolfi & Е trach, 2009)

SOUTH KOREA GLOBALIZATION IMPACT
SOUTH KOREA GLOBALIZATION IMPACT
Executive Summary: The end of World War II, and the subsequent divide of the Republic of Korea, marked the beginning of South Korea as a
country. The first few years of its existence as a country were far from ideal. With help from the United States and the UN,South Korea was
rehabilitated and pointed in the right direction. South Korea received financial aid, military assistance and trading partners that would prove to be
extremely valuable in its efforts to become a self–sustaining successful country. South Korea began as an autocratic country and over the years moved
toward becoming fully democratic. Although the country is now under democratic rule, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exports have always been a focus of South Korea, but increase in exports does not always yield an increase in employment, as employment is usually
stimulated by the domestic sector (Cooper, 2012). The current ideology of South Korea has traces of standard Asian cultures mixed with western
cultures and European influences. In some aspects, Korean culture is certainly moving away from their roots. Male superiority is a staple in many
Asian cultures, especially Japan. On February 25, 2013, the first woman will be sworn in as South Korean president, effectively moving the country
toward a more gender equal society. South Korea has remained a strong homogeneous population since its creation and movement away from the
former Japanese rule. South Korean's take pride in their homogeneous mixture and therefore a strong sense of collectivism is established. After 60
years of occupation by Japan, South Koreans are trying to regain their identities, rather than the ones imposed on them by the occupiers. As a result of
this pride in homogeneity, South Korean is emerging as a racist nation with a general disliking and negative feeling toward foreigners. Increased
globalization is bringing foreigners into closer contact with locals. It's hard to tell how South Korean's will respond although it is unlikely that instilled
beliefs will change rapidly. Although foreign investors and entrepreneurship stimulate a majority of its economy,

Monetary Policy Decision
The students of the research group of the Bank of Korea decided today to increase money supply by setting a lower base rate, printing more money,

research group of the Bank of Korea decided today to increase money supply to improve the current account and in result improve the declining
investments. However, if necessary, the Bank of Korea will conduct the opposite: contractionary fiscal policy by either selling government bonds or to
increase the reserve requirement in order to decrease inflation. Based on currently available information we consider that the trends of economic
recovery in the US and the euro area have weakened in recent years. Also, the Economic growth in emerging market countries including China has
meanwhile continued to slow. We expect that global inflation is on a trend of decline due to weakening of international raw material prices and
negative output gaps in major advanced countries. Also, the exchange rate seemed to be unstable but has recently shown an increasing trend. Looking
at the Korean economy, the trend of decreasing exports and imports have continued to show due to the slowdown of economic growth. As a result of
the declining values of the current account, investments have recently declined because South Korea is an export oriented country and many of its major

The Battle Of Kapyong During The Korean War
The Battle of Kapyong was initiated by the Chinese and Korean forces that were attempting to recapture lost territory. Aware of how crucial the
land was to their enemy, UN forces dug in to Kapyong Valley and prepared to cover the South Korean forces that were withdrawing from the 38th
Parallel. The Canadians were located in Hill 677, and the Australians on Hill 504. The Australians bore the brunt of the first attack and were forced
to withdraw, overwhelmed by the vast number of enemy troops. However, the soldiers of 2PPCLI stood their ground, and prepared to meet the
communist assault headfirst. Their defence proved to be a success, and the last remaining soldiers of the Chinese army retreated with haste. The
soldiers of 2PPCLI were replaced by American reinforcements, allowed to get the rest they dearly deserved. From that point onwards, little full scale
battles took place, instead replaced by smaller skirmishes across the 38th Parallel. The victory at Kapyong Valley was a turning point in the war; it
stabilized the frontlines, successfully covered the South Korean retreat, and protected Seoul from re–occupation. If it weren't for the Canadian's stand,
the Chinese army would have an an excellent position to make an assault on the South Korean Capital Seoul, and would meet comparatively little
opposition with the South Korean and UN forces weakened from previous battles. At the end of the war the 2PPCLI and the other units that were

Advantages Of Equity Based Crowdfunding
Crowdcube model – Equity based crowdfunding
Crowdcube is an equity based crowdfunding and this model is a new fundraising model for entrepreneurs. Individuals' investments are pooled allowing
entrepreneurs to secure funding directly from the general public, bypassing business angels and banks.
What this model is about is that anyone can invest money in return for equity in a business. The minimum investment can be as low as ВЈ10.
Crowdcube also operates on the "all or nothing" model. This means that when a pitch reaches its investment target, the business receives the funding
raised, and if it does not, no funds are taken from investors. A commission is charged on successful funding campaigns.

The name "Korea" is from Goryeo, a dynasty which ruled in the middle Ages. Its neighbours are China to the west, Japan to the east, and North Korea
to the north. South Korea lies in the North Temperate Zone with a mostly mountainous terrain. It covers a total area of 99,392 square kilometres and
has a population of 50 million. The capital and largest city is Seoul, with a population of 9.8 million.
Archaeology indicates that the Korean Peninsula was occupied by the Lower Palaeolithic period. Korean history begins with the founding of Gojoseon
in 2333 BC by the legendary Dan–gun. Following the incorpotion of the Three Kingdoms of Korea under Silla 668 AD, Korea was ruled by the
Goryeo Dynasty (918–1392) and Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910). It was annexed by the Empire of Japan in 1910. At the end of World War II, Korea was
divided into Soviet and U.S. zones of occupation. An election was held the U.S. zone in 1948 which led to the creation of the Republic of Korea.
Although the United Nations passed a resolution declaring the Republic to be the only lawful government in Korea, the Soviets set up a rival
government in the North.
The Korean War began in 1950 when forces from the North invaded the South. The war lasted three years and involved the U.S., China, the Soviet

Analysis Of The Book ' Babara Demick '
In her book, Babara Demick follows the lives of six different North Korean defectors in South Korea, mainly focusing on the economic downturn and
famine in the 1990s. She concentrates on their lives before, during and after their defection from North Korea. However, there is a gender imbalance in
the defectors interviewed; four out of the six defectors are women. Through this, Demick manages to subtly portray the gender imbalance of North
Korean defectors which is skewed in favour of females. The reason to this is that 'The Gender dynamics of East Asia and in North Korea, as well as

Through Oak–Hee, Demick describes the Chinese marriage market which still operates today, as 80% of North Korean refugees who have become
'commodities for purchase' (Kirkpatrick). Oak–hee's reason for leaving is similar to many of the other North Korean defectors, abusive husbands and
the thought that working in China would allow them to make enough money to send back to their family and children (231). In the prison Oak–hee is
situated in after her capture, Demick also comments on the gender split of prisoned defectors with two women to every man (231). This is due to
North Korean women being highly prized in China, Demick refers to the one–child policy (without stating it) and that the skewered ratio of men to
women in China is 13:10 in the 1990s (although it has become more of a pressing issue, with Kirkpatrick stating that the three closest provinces to North
Korea has a gender imbalance of fourteen to one.) Thus did the North Korean women, willingly or not, export themselves as wives, such as Oak–hee or
in the case of Dr.Kim, as a housekeeper. This was in turn powered by the objectification and exotification of North Korean women by the rest of East
Asia. Demick makes reference to this many times, both in the case of the Chinese marriage market

The Cold War
The Cold War was the name given to the political economic, military and ideological contention that occurred between the United States and its allies
and the Soviet Union and their allies after World War II. The two forces never directly engaged in military activity in light of the fact that both had
atomic weapons that if utilized, might have had crushing outcomes for both sides. Instead, proxy wars were battled. A proxy war results when
contradicting forces utilize outsiders as substitutes for battling each one other and is ordinarily launched by a power that does not itself partake. The
Korean and Vietnam wars are two examples of proxy wars on the grounds that the U.S. and the Soviet Union did not directly engage one another
however, Soviet endeavors to spread and bring together both Korea and Vietnam under communist rule provoked mediation either by theUnited States
and/or by their allies. These two occasions were simply a few of the impacts of the Cold War in Asia. This paper will examine each war individually
and in more detail and endeavor to persuade that the Korean and Vietnam Wars were the immediate aftereffects of Soviet endeavors to expand
communist influence in Asia and the United States and their allies' approach of forestalling and holding such endeavors.

Women Of The North Korean Films
Another interesting observation was the projected image of women in North Korean films as well. In the films where there is a female lead, A
Traffic Controller on Crossroads, Order No. 27 and A Broad Bellflower, there are surprisingly given are very much given a position of influence,
diligence, and authority on a small scale. According to Suk–Young Kim, she emphasizes the this when she states, "To extol the values of a female
workforce, visual media promoted the image of working women in all spheres, but most notably, military women were the crux of glorifying female
labor force in North Korea." (243). This is highly represented in A Traffic Controller on Crossroads, where the main character is wearing a uniform
for a majority of the film and diligently does her job. There are also images of uniformed women in Order No. 27 as well, which shows them as
skilled fighters, even when facing against multiple male opponents. In a way, the uniform is a means for the female characters to step up into the
economic and social ranks, in addition as a way to show a sense of gender equality to an extent. However, though the uniforms are militarized they
still emphasize the feminine shape in order to till show the difference between men and women in a public and social setting (Kim, 242). While in the
film, A Broad Bellflower, it doesn't show militarized women, it does shows working women, and is strongly reinforced by a beautiful lead female

Korean War Effects
When the Korean War began, the world was suffering from the aftermath of the World War II and was just getting into the Cold War. During the Cold
War era, the Korean War broke out on the Korean peninsula as a result of the tensions between communism and capitalism.
Despite Korea's long history and unique culture, it changed hands multiple times. It was, at first, a state belonging to China but then was annexed by
Japan in 1910. After the Japanese had won in that war, Japan reinforced its influence in Korea and formally annexed it as a colony in 1910.
During World War II, the Allied countries met to discuss what would happen to Korea in the postwar period. In 1943, The People's Republic of China,
the United States, and Great Britain decided that once Japan is defeated, all of its colonies, including Korea, will be confiscated. As the war ended in
1945, two American colonels, Dean Rusk and Charles H. Bonesteel III, proposed General Order No. 1, which instructed Japanese forces to surrender
to its designated Allied commanders. The U.S. would take responsibility for accepting the surrender of Japanese troops south of the 38th parallel and

  • 4. The Causes Of The Korean War The Korean War was both an internal conflict for the Korean people as while as a conflict that impacted the rest of the world; especially affecting Eastern Asia. This war (occurring from June 25th 1950 – July 27th 1953) was caused by the differing political opinions of the northern and southern regions of Korea and was what eventually caused the split of the once unified country of Korea into North Korea and South Korea respectively. Both sides of the country believed that the country as a whole should be treated and ruled differently, and the once invisible split in the country became an actual boundary when things couldn't be settled between the two. Doesn't help that each faction (half) believed believed that they were "the true" rulers of Korea and that they would be the ones to make the law. Imagine if the once political split between the north and southern parts of America during the civil war caused us to become two separate countries as we fought over the leadership of the entire country. This is basically what was happening in the Koreas. This war basically never ended as both of the Koreas still have many conflicts today and nothing was really ever resolved as they didn't have never become unified again. The political difference between both the north and south was polarizing. The north leaned towards the communist side of things, following very closely in the footsteps of the People's Republic of China, while the southern part was far more pro–western. This ... Upon further research, it becomes apparent that this South Korean girl group ranks as one of the highest revenue–earning legacies in girl group history, earning over 21 billion won in the first three quarters of 2011. Alongside Girls' Generation, comedic singer Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video has generated 2.5 billion views and Korean boy group Big Bang has generated a revenue of 44 million dollars in 2016. The rise of the Korean pop industry and global phenomenon is most notably attributed to several factors: creators, distribution, consumers, and content. Most interestingly, the prominence of K–pop music and artists on consumer goods, advertisements, social media, and daily life, has profoundly influenced ideological standards of domestic and international culture. With technology, social media, training programs, and international popularity, the Korean pop music industry has played a significant role in shifting consumerism, standards of beauty, gender and societal roles, music production trends, international culture, and the future of the industry as a whole. Financial Crisis in South Korea International strategic management| South Korea, financial crisis| Melissa MactavieJodie MackayTeboho LentoSifiso MashishiKarushka naidoo| South Korea's current account balance started to deteriorate in 1990, due to the rising inflation, appreciation of the Korean won and the recession of the world economy. In 1991 the current account recorded a deficit of $8.7 billion, which was more than four times the level of the preceding year. The Korean government encouraged capital inflows in order to finance the growing current account deficit. To achieve this objective, capital account liberalisation was accelerated in 1991by altering the Foreign Exchange Management Act. The limited capital account liberalisation implemented resulted ... Due to the high rates of economic growth and the booming economy, private firms and corporations looked to finance speculative investment projects. However, firms overstretched themselves and a combination of factors caused depreciation in the exchange rate as they struggled to meet the payments. The South Korean corporate governance structure was known for its technical and ethical inefficiency well before the crisis. The existence of a small number of large business conglomerates, chaebols, is widely considered to be one of the biggest problems in South Korean society. This governance system was fertile ground for inefficiency and corruption. A study shows that only 27percent of the 570 non–financial firms created shareholder value during the five years before the crises. The South Korean conglomerates were more or less completely controlled by the government and simply absorbed growing capital investment. Eventually, excess debt led to key failures and takeovers. In the midst of the Asian market downturn,South Korea's credit rating was lowered on 28 November 1997 and downgraded again on 11 December. That contributed to an additional decline in South Korean shares since stock markets were already bearish in November. The inability of the Korean government to respond early to potential ... In doing so, I will be answering the four major questions as it relates to the major Elements and Dimensions of culture in South Korea. Also, since the dimensions of culture in any nation are many, it is necessary to analyze each category that makes up the Dimensions of one's culture, these categories have been in place for many years in any given country. This is relevant to this Business Cultural Analysis, because if the United States is building more military bases in South Korean, the U.S. must still consider the Dimensions of the South Koreans Culture in order to further their objective in that nation. After all, South Korea is not the United States, which means the Dimensions of their culture would not be the same as the United States. The major elements and dimensions of culture in South Korea would be as follows: Religion In South Korea like any other nation, Religion is a very delicate area that needs to be considered before embarking on business opportunities in that nation. Because of the sensitive nature that Religion brings to business, when considering a country to do business in, one must tread lightly, being careful not to infringe on a group of peoples Religious rights. As it relates to South Korea, it is made up of various Religious groups, and there is a little over 65% of the population of the Republic of Korea that are members of an organized religion. Christianity According to World Population Statistics, it points out that the largest organized religious group in South Korea is Christianity, (World Population Statistics, 2013). Some important nations during the Cold War were the United States, Soviet Union, and Japan, and there was much tension between especially the Soviet Union and the United States. One of the important wars during this period of tension was the Korean War, lasting from June 1950 to July 1953. This war began due to North Korean forces launching an attack on South Korea, and the United States aiding the Southern nation. Out of the troops that were in South Korea, the United States had sent in over 90% of them, which helped them to not be conquered by the Communist North Koreans and Communism. Many United States soldiers, approximately 7,800, "are still unaccounted for from the Korean War as of April 2015" (CNN.com). A little less than 54,000 casualties had been reported to have also lost their lives; however, this was as of June 2000. The Cold War was a period of tension that affected the Koreans along with the Soviet Union and the United States, and North Korea and South Korea were areas in which the superpowers backed the Northern half and the Southern half, respectively. In order to take over South Korea, Japanese Communists were sent into the nation, and Soviet Communists had started to cut communications at the 38th parallel. North Korean forces, led by Kim Il Sung, made their way towards South Korea on June 25, 1950. The United States and President Truman had wasted no time in order to help South Korea from their Northern rivals. The Soviet Union provided weapons to North Korea, which had an effect on the amount of American soldiers had lost their lives. Also, the effect of the communication cutoff was not good for South Korea as it showed the capabilities of the Soviet Union. • 10. The Legacy Of South Korea Have you ever visited a different country, or a city even, and been completely bewildered? Have you had a specific image in your head of how a certain culture lives and acts? A country can be judge and defined by its modern culture and most tend to do just that, but its past is where its real truth lies. To fully understand and know any country, one must travel deeper and discover its true roots. In the majority of countries, the historical events greatly contribute to how the culture evolved into the present day, and how its people grew through the years, into what has become known as the society of today. South Korea is no stranger to this and they continue to preserve its historic landmarks with pride. Although most of South Korea 's history is clouded by conflict, the struggles the people have endured have only united them as one, and has helped shape the country into a great nation which the citizens are proud of. The citizens of South Korea have seen their country beaten, conquered, divided, and still refused to let out the cry of defeat and abandon their homeland. Having various ways to travel around the country, no other means of transportation is as common as the train system. Since the mid–2000s, the K–pop music market has experienced double digit growth rates. In the first half of 2012, it grossed nearly US$3.4 billion and was recognized by Time magazine as "South Korea 's Greatest Export". The History The history of Korean popular music can be traced back to 1885 when an American missionary, Henry Appenzeller started teaching American and British folk songs at a school. One vital thing to remember when discussing with Koreans is that the person must talk directly with clarity as Koreans unfavour having to ask questions again or need more clarity in speech. Most Iranians speak Persian, the national language of Iran. Just like Korea, a language interpreter is essential for business dealings. When introduced, it is restricted to the same gender as both genders socialise separately. In more recent times, North Korea has become more vocal about its actions such as the building of its military, weapons, and possibly the Sony Pictures Entertainment hack (Levs, 2014). North Korean citizens from early ages are taught what is good, bad, moral, and immoral. For example, they are taught in a way that portrays the government and Kim Jong Un in a positive light, while capitalism and democracy is portrayed in a much more negative light (Jeong & Lee, 2009). • 17. How Did The Cold War Affect The Korean War On June 25th, 1950, the Korean war began. About 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean army crossed the 38th parallel, the border separating North and South Korea. Undivided, Korea was a Japanese colony, until the end of World War II in 1945. But after WWII, Korea was poured into the hesitant hands of the United States, and the exhilarated hands of the Soviet Union. It was then divided into North, occupied by the Soviets, and South, occupied by the United States. The Soviet Union was running North Korea as a communist dictatorship, dictated by Kim Il Sung, and the United States was running South Korea as an anti–communist dictatorship, dictated by Syngman Rhee. Kim Il Sung wanted unification of the Korea's, however he wanted a communist government, which the nationalist government of South Korea did not see eye to eye with. So Kim Il Sung had attempted to force communism by invading South Korea across the 38th parallel. This invasion was the first military action of the Cold War. By encouraging collaboration and providing economic support, South Korean President Kim Dae Jung hoped to rebuild broken connections with North Korea with the end goal of peaceful co–existence. In response to this new foreign policy and prospect of reunification, many South Korean directors took matters into their own hands and started to experiment with films that featured both North and South Korean characters. Two such directors were Kang Je–gyu and Park Chan–wook, who both used military films to express their opinions on joint North and South Korea relations. Since the two countries have historically been separate, the interesting challenge that Directors Je–gyu and Chan–wook had to face was how to incorporate both parties using filmic aspects of misГ©–en–scene. For example, should both characters appear in the same shots and frames? Should the South Korean characters get more screen time than their North Korean counterparts? In order to address this challenge, the directors had to consider the three manifestations of space: liminality, interstitiality, and marginality. In his Betwixt and Between: The Liminal Period in Rites de Passage, Victor Turner, the father of interpretive anthropology, loosely defines these terms in the context of two separate communities. Korean War : The Cold War At the mid–point of the century that had already seen two appallingly destructive and costly World wars, just as the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States broke due to their ideological differences after World War II, in the midst of the Cold War was the Korean War. The Korean War began on June 25, 1950 when the North Korean People's Army poured across the 38th parallel, a border between South and North Korea, to attack South Korea. The size of the war quickly grew as it began to involve countries like China, Soviet Union, and the United States. During the 1950s, the Korean War was tremendously significant as it marked the first concrete war against communism as well as revealing inconsistencies in American foreign policy. During the 1940s and 1950s, before and after the Korean War began, the U.S.' securitized and perceived threats from communism led to paranoid American society. Throughout the war, many individuals has different interpretations on how the war really went down. Some blamed the United States for causing the war, however Brian Myers looked further and discovered that originally they (the people) did not blame America for starting the war. The Americans aligned with the Korean conservatives in the South, while the Soviets sided with the liberals in the North. Undergoing and visualizing all of the facts that was provided proves how the Korean War began and who really started it. Now we all know that the USA eventually won and stopped most of communism by 1991. But this begs the question, If the USA failed containment, would the domino theory be correct? For example, The USSR decided one day to blockade West Germany from supplies in order to get them to surrender. Now, the USA then did something called the Berlin Airlift, which planes flew through West Germany and gave supplies to the West Germans. In Korea, however, Wal–Mart met with resistance from its distributors regarding integration into the IT system and ultimately did not create a nation–wide distribution network. (Kim R. Wal–Mart strategy in the US was to have price dominance. Aware of how crucial the land was to their enemy, UN forces dug in to Kapyong Valley and prepared to cover the South Korean forces that were withdrawing from the 38th Parallel. The Canadians were located in Hill 677, and the Australians on Hill 504. The Australians bore the brunt of the first attack and were forced to withdraw, overwhelmed by the vast number of enemy troops. However, the soldiers of 2PPCLI stood their ground, and prepared to meet the communist assault headfirst. In the prison Oak–hee is situated in after her capture, Demick also comments on the gender split of prisoned defectors with two women to every man (231). This is due to North Korean women being highly prized in China, Demick refers to the one–child policy (without stating it) and that the skewered ratio of men to women in China is 13:10 in the 1990s (although it has become more of a pressing issue, with Kirkpatrick stating that the three closest provinces to North Korea has a gender imbalance of fourteen to one.) Thus did the North Korean women, willingly or not, export themselves as wives, such as Oak–hee or in the case of Dr.Kim, as a housekeeper. This was in turn powered by the objectification and exotification of North Korean women by the rest of East Asia. The Cold War The Cold War was the name given to the political economic, military and ideological contention that occurred between the United States and its allies and the Soviet Union and their allies after World War II. The two forces never directly engaged in military activity in light of the fact that both had atomic weapons that if utilized, might have had crushing outcomes for both sides. Instead, proxy wars were battled. A proxy war results when contradicting forces utilize outsiders as substitutes for battling each one other and is ordinarily launched by a power that does not itself partake. In the films where there is a female lead, A Traffic Controller on Crossroads, Order No. 27 and A Broad Bellflower, there are surprisingly given are very much given a position of influence, diligence, and authority on a small scale. According to Suk–Young Kim, she emphasizes the this when she states, "To extol the values of a female workforce, visual media promoted the image of working women in all spheres, but most notably, military women were the crux of glorifying female labor force in North Korea." (243). This is highly represented in A Traffic Controller on Crossroads, where the main character is wearing a uniform for a majority of the film and diligently does her job. There are also images of uniformed women in Order No. 27 as well, which shows them as skilled fighters, even when facing against multiple male opponents. In a way, the uniform is a means for the female characters to step up into the economic and social ranks, in addition as a way to show a sense of gender equality to an extent. However, though the uniforms are militarized they still emphasize the feminine shape in order to till show the difference between men and women in a public and social setting (Kim, 242). During the Cold War era, the Korean War broke out on the Korean peninsula as a result of the tensions between communism and capitalism. Despite Korea's long history and unique culture, it changed hands multiple times. It was, at first, a state belonging to China but then was annexed by Japan in 1910. After the Japanese had won in that war, Japan reinforced its influence in Korea and formally annexed it as a colony in 1910. During World War II, the Allied countries met to discuss what would happen to Korea in the postwar period. In 1943, The People's Republic of China, the United States, and Great Britain decided that once Japan is defeated, all of its colonies, including Korea, will be confiscated. As the war ended in 1945, two American colonels, Dean Rusk and Charles H. Bonesteel III, proposed General Order No. 1, which instructed Japanese forces to surrender to its designated Allied commanders. The U.S. would take responsibility for accepting the surrender of Japanese troops south of the 38th parallel and Soviet troops would receive the surrender north of 38th parallel.
