Academic Dishonesty Essay
In the past decade, professors across the country have noticed an alarming new trend–academic
dishonesty is on the rise. More than half of college students surveyed admit to at least one instance
of serious cheating in the past year (McCabe and Pavela). Information is incredibly easy to access on
the Internet, and devices such as iPhones put that power, literally, into the palms of students' hands.
Many students entering universities today face extraordinary amounts of pressure for results
academically, leading them to believe that cheating is necessary to succeed. This mentality is further
cemented by examples in mass media, from professional athletes to CEOs cheating in order to get
ahead. To battle this trend, colleges across the...show more content...
According to Charles A. Perkins, Ph.D. and Anne A. Skleder, Ph.D, "most systems presume that the
great majority are honorable and honest and that the Code is in place to punish violators. This
approach is faulty because it is based upon the (false) presumption that the rules are understood and
built on a foundation well established prior to arriving at college." Students come to college with
bad habits developed in high school regarding their completing their schoolwork honestly. Also,
many already feel that cheating can be justified on a case–by–case basis, so honor codes do not
actually dissuade them from doing it.Also, I do not feel that it is the place of colleges to impose
moral standards on their students. For example, the students at Brigham YoungUniversity face
regulations on every part of their lives, from their academic work, to their personal appearance, to
their sexual expression. According to Stanley Fish in his work Save the World On Your Own Time,
this type of education is not the university's job, "the practices of responsible citizenship and moral
behavior should be encouraged in our young adults, but it's not the business of the university to do
so" (Fish 67). If honor codes tread into this territory, it serves the exact opposite of its intended
purpose. Honor codes made to protect the integrity of the university will actually undermine it when
they try to teach morality. Fish calls professors who try to cultivate

Trial Testing in Children

Trial Testing in Children Our country is one where every day, new medical treatments and
medicines are being discovered and being approved to help Americans battle all of the different
diseases and conditions that affect us. In order for us to be able to get access to those medications
and treatments, many people agree to become part of clinical trials, they are the first to receive the
treatments, this helps to understand how the body will be affected and if the medication will be
effective. People who are part of these clinical trials, go through extensive medical testing, and they
must be of sound mind and...show more content...
In current times, children are not getting infected with diseases in order to find curative vaccines,
but they are being made part of clinical trials for studies of genetic screening, the enrollment of
healthy children in studies of sibling bone marrow donation, and the use of hypothermia for
neonates with asphyxia (Laventhal, Tarini & Lantos, 2012). These trial studies have become
ethical dilemmas in pediatrics for various reasons, people believe that there are not strong enough
regulations for these trials and also that children are not given the opportunity to make their own
decisions, most of the time, because children are underage, parents are the ones who make the
decision of making their children part of these studies. Current regulations for pediatric clinical
trials only require the consent of one parent, unless they are high level risk trials, in which case
both parents needs to give approval and the child must also assent. The issue of children given
assent for high risk trials is controversial because how do we know that the children really
understand the risks that are associated with the trials, do they fully understand that they could
possibly get hurt and sometimes their lives can be in danger.

APA Citation Style and Plagiarism
Maria Carolina Manalili
Introduction to Computer – – AP 108
International College of Cayman Islands
The librarian visited our class to do a presentation regarding the APA Citation Style and Plagiarism.
I have learned a lot more information on how to avoid plagiarism and how to cite it appropriately.
APA offers guidelines for overall paper layout, citations, abstract, style, and references. Students are
often asked to adhere to the APA guidelines whenwriting papers, research essays, and reports.
Understanding and following the rules of APA can assist a student in writing a well
–formatted and
professional looking academic paper. Preparing a paper using APA format creates a presentation
that is uniform in appearance, which can make a paper easier to follow. According to the 6th Edition
of the APA Publication Manual, papers have 1 inch margins, are double
–spaced and use a 12–point
font. There are also guidelines for running headers and proper numeration, which adds to overall
presentation. A formatted title page...show more content...
APA recommends four major sections of a paper: title page, abstract, body and reference page. A
properly formatted abstract, which is a precise summary of the research conducted, will give the
reader an idea of what will come in the body of the paper. A reference page will allow the reader to
further investigate the research presented.
Learning APA format can improve the writing skills of students, by asking them to consider word
choice and writing style. An APA
–formatted paper follows guidelines in regards to voice, point of
view, and clarity. For example, APA suggests that a writer aim for a clear and concise voice, absent
of bias and poetic language. The guidelines also suggest using the active voice in papers, which
makes a writer more aware of sentence

APA Ethical Guidelines Essay
The APA ethical guidelines help to ensure that all psychological research maintains the integrity that
it does not do harm or conflicts with the majority of the human populations moral ethical codes.
However, in some situations the APA ethical guidelines must be viewed as just that: guidelines. If a
study has the potential to benefit humanity as a whole and does not result in the permanent or
irreparable harm to a human being then some guidelines must be permitted to be stretched or even
broken in the interest of human advancement and scientific progression. After all the goal and
responsibility of a psychologist is to enhance our understanding of human behavior as well as to find
ways to use this information to better society and humanity...show more content...
Informed consent most closely interrelates to the guideline of deception. Deception is possibly the
most controversial and also the most important aspects of research in psychology. Deception
occurs when the experimenter withholds information about the study or the true aim of the study.
In psychological research, it is important to use the least amount of deception possible. In all
cases the researcher must take careful consideration to the benefits of any deception. If deception
is carried out the participant is likely to experience: a feeling of being uncomfortable, negative
feelings towards the research, and suspicion of the research. However, sometimes deception is
necessary for the researcher because if the participants understand the aim of the study they could
act differently according to the aim of the study. For instance, in memory research the researcher
can inform the aim of the study because the participants do not know what they will be asked to
remember. The most adept method of compensating for any mandatory deception is in the
debriefing. After the experiment is over, researchers are required to debrief the participants. The
ultimate reason for debriefing is to allow the participants to leave the experiment without any stress.
This also gives the experimenter a chance to go over any and all of the points where deception
might have been used and to

APA Writing Style Essay
American Psychological Association (APA) writing style exists for a reason and this reason is
because writers' must give "credibility where credibility is due"(Walden Writing Center, 2015) .
During my BSW program I learned this and also, the importance of integrity in college level
writing. In my opinion, two aspects of APA that I think will not challenge me are direct
quotations and listing references. I have to admit I prefer to quote intellecutual matter directly
rather than, use paraphazing. I believe this is approriate to do if the quote you utilize is short and
all of your agrguments regarding, the content of the quote, are your own ideas. Another thing that
will come easily to me is listing my references. This comes easily to me because during my
undergraduate education, I excelled in this area. The reason for this is because everytime I wrote a
reference page I always refered to my courses APA manual.
Eventhough I have had a through exposure to APA, it has been a year since I have utilized this
writing style. Also, my current position does not require the use of APA. Therefore, a saying comes
to mind "if you don't use it you lose it". Currently, this is my situation. As a result, Walden
University's module on Passive Plagarism...show more content...
As I stated earlier, I prefer to avoid paraphazing in my writing. The reason for this is because the
arguments I construst in my papers are straight forward, to the point, and my own ideas. Also,
gradewise, I did not get penalized for this in my BSW program. However, Walden Univerisity's
Passive Plagarism module taught me that it is ok to directly quote material, but paraphazing is
strongly prefered in college level writing. During my Master of social work program, I will utilize
more paraphazing in my papers. On the same note, quoting directly can be considered a more
systematic approach to APA
