1. Competition!
• Design for a banner that could be fitted to the borough’s waste trucks. The
theme of the competition is ‘Food Waste’, and banners should help
encourage residents and fellow students to recycle their food waste.
• Designs can focus on three possible aspects:
• - WHAT you can recycle
• - HOW you can recycle
• - HOW you can change habits to reduce food waste in the home
Pupils could win:
• The winner’s design will feature on the borough’s waste trucks, along with
a class trip to Veolia’s recycling facility in Southwark and finally a cash
prize for the school to go towards books and art materials for the top 3
designs:
• - £500 to the winning design
• - £250 to second place
• - £100 to third place

your entry.
• The prefects will help you to research ideas on
the computer!

3. Food waste recycling
• If it grows and you can eat it, we can recycle it.
• Reduce your food waste to save money and win a prize!
• In the UK, £12 billion of food and drink is thrown away
every year. By reducing food waste, a two-person
household could save £480 a year while a family of four
could save as much as £680. The West London Waste
Authority is asking residents to pledge to reduce their food
waste. This can be as simple as planning your meals for the
week ahead. Make a pledge to do this and you’ll be entered
into a draw for a chance to win prizes including restaurant
vouchers, recipe books and cookery lessons.
