My Community College Experience
My education became my top priority when starting community college. I am first generation student and my parents just expected me to attend
college. I did not have much help from my parent in enrolling or the process of entering college. I did not let that stopped me and continued to do my
best. During my community college experience, I did not really like school and struggled with math a lot. I took the wrong classes my first year and
changed my major two times. I was never connected to my college and never participated in any clubs or organizations. I felt like I was just there for
class, I also think it was this way because I was working a full–time job at the same time. I honestly hated school but I knew that education is very
important. During this time, I doubted myself a lot because I did not think I could make it through college. After learning about the Validation theory
by Laura Rendon which states "nontraditional students (whom Rendom defined as those from diverse racial/ethnic and cultural background) often
doubted their academic ability" (Patton et al. 2016 p. 39). I felt connected to this theory right away because I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Self–Authorship is defined as "the internal capacity to define one's belief, identity, and social relations" (Baxter Magolda 2016 p. 365). I was finally
making more on my own decisions, having a major chosen now was more important to me than anything else. I started to question why I was going
into the field of helping. Finding more about my self–helped me figure out where I wanted to transfer. I took a year off between community college
and transferring. During this time, I was trying to figure out on my own, what was going to be my next step. I was trying to find myself and what I
wanted to do for me and not because of what friends and family had influenced me. Taking this year off helped me reflect on my journey and my

Honors College Experience
During the NJIT open house, I had the opportunity to visit The Honors College, and my first impression of the program left me in awe, I could feel the
environment supporting a strong education through a non–enforcive way. From that moment, I envisioned myself participating in the Honors College:
taking on the rigorous academic course and being able to do research early in my college career. My academic background matched many of the
Honors College students' backgrounds, such as partaking in a variety of rigid classes. In fact, a few of them are from my current high school, Mcnair
Academic, which is a magnet–school with a tough academic standard that requires a college level of commitment from the students. From an academic

College : A Coming Of Age Experience In College
College is a time in life where students attain a sense of the real world and commence a new road to independence. Despite the alluring effects of a
college education, many high school students have yet to decide whether or not college is worth paying for. As time progresses, colleges are raising
their demand on finances in return for a person to become acquainted with the intellectual properties for their desired career choice. Due to this
dilemma, numerous teenagers have been dropping out of high school believing that college is unnecessary in order to find a job immediately. The
progressive increase of financial gain in colleges have also raised some concern to the group of people that do wish to attend college, but cannot
afford to obtain such prerequisite. While some may claim that college is not a valuable coming of age experience due to a personal conviction in
which a college education is not able to fulfill one's goals, or appease prior expectations, college is able to be considered as a valuable coming of age
experience nonetheless. The reasoning behind this is that a college experience allows an individual to discover their ambitions for the future and
provide knowledge of who they are, while additionally providing a sense of purpose to their life in the future by transforming them into a more
prosperous person.
For starters, college would be deemed to be a poignant coming of age experience because of the opportunity for an individual to encounter aspirations

The College Experience Essay
The College Experience
"Tomorrow is the first day of what I will become." I wrote this in my diary the night before my first day of college. I was anxious as I imagined the
stereotypical college room: intellectual students, in–depth discussions about neat stuff, and of course, a casual professor sporting the tweed jacket with
leather elbows. I was also ill as I foresaw myself drowning in a murky pool of reading assignments and finals, hearing a deep, depressing voice ask
"What can you do with your life?" Since then, I've settled comfortably into the college "scene" and have treated myself to the myth that I'll hear my
calling someday, and that my future will introduce itself to me with a hardy handshake. I can't completely rid my ... Show more content on

Now I'm taking classes, paying dearly for each credit, and hoping that an career will spring from it all like Athena from Zeus. Not a day passes
where I don't reexamine my choices, and question myself as to what I would like to do to earn money. "Majoring in majoring" has been my motto as
I've thrown myself over a few areas in which I hold interest. Nearing the stage where I must announce a major or two, I can no longer hide with my
motto in hand.
Perhaps the biggest contributor to my anxiety in this issue is my financial situation. If money were no object and my classes, books, and credits were
free, I would be one of the grey–haired, life–long students in the front row. I would accumulate over fifteen degrees ranging from poetry prowess to
molecular biology, and I would take my sweet time in doing so. Heck, I might even live in the dorms for a few years. As my bank account will clearly
state, along with the decisions of our "not–so–benevolant" governor, my university education is not so idyllic. Because I am being propelled by
financial aid and a scholarship, I feel a painful itch that I must sort through my college education in four or five years or plan to take out a twenty–year
loan.
I've heard all the stories about "Jackie" who switched her major seven times before finally becoming a physician's assistant, or "Larry" who took eight
years to settle on becoming an optician. I've also

My College Life Experience
My college life experience started in 2016, when I finally decided what it was I going to become. College will not only help me with my own
personal goals, but it will help with preparing for my future career. Marketing Management is what I am studying for and I know a few things that I
expect to learn while educating myself on this specific subject. There are, of course, many new things I am looking forward too when getting my
diploma and degree. Once I receive my degree from Coastal Pines Technical College, I will want to achieve great things in my life and make sure that I
keep trying once I get there.

Once I receive the degree and I can get a job that I vision to have, I will then learn about more about financial stability.
I expect to learn about not only marketing management, but also subjects surrounding the subject at hand. I will expect to learn how to speak to
everyone professionally in the business. Learning to speak to my coworkers will consist of not only in the flesh, but in emails as well. With this
learning experience, there will be a huge involvement of entrepreneurship and small business management. The year I have been going to college I
have received my certificate for Small Business Management and Retail Merchandise Management. I expect to be educated quite well on everything
needed for the job I hope to have in the future.
With my time at Coastal Pines Technical College, I will be most excited about learning every detail of marketing management. The classes I have
taken, business law was my favorite subject. It was very interesting learning the different laws in the government and what one can do in any case
they end up not just in marketing. Another subject that caught my eye was the way the store is set up and why because it answered many of
questions I have had about the arrangements of a store. I am excited about knowing more details about my major than I knew before. A subject I fear
but I am eager to take is accounting. I believe the reason why is because a lot of students say that the class is very hard, but I always love a

My Experience In College
Now to recount my college chapter I would have to say that it didn't end so successfully. I began as a freshman at the University of
Washington–Bothell (UWB) campus. There I followed the general path all freshmen went through; completing their prerequisites and adjusting to
college life. I was like many students, still unsure of what I wanted to pursue in college but a key factor of college is exploration. However, as the year
went by I slowly started to notice that the vision I had of attending this college was not what I expected. I felt that the courses laid out to freshman
weren't beneficial as they combined the essential disciplines of say math, history, English, and science into one class they like to call 'Discovery
Core'. Of course, you are selected to choose a pre–major of your choice where you would be taking the classes you'll need to complete the set of
requirements for that major. At the time I was thinking about going into the STEM field as it was something I enjoyed doing duringhigh school. I took
the beginning series of Computer Science and going into the class it wasn't a problem it was the end of the quarter that caught me off guard; the finals.
I failed two classes at UWB, Computer Science in the fall and Statistics in the Spring. This isn't like me at all. As many teachers and adults alike can
acknowledge is that I'm an extremely hard–worker who strives to succeed. Academics have always been my strength and really something I've taken
very seriously

My College Experience In College
Going to college is a whole knew experience, and it can be scary to some freshman. Going to college can be a great experience or it can not be a great
experience it all depends on yourself. Going to college may mean bad eating habits, or there may be a high level of stress. Going to college may
mean that it is the first time to be away from home all on your own. There are many aspects of being a freshman in college, and One aspect that every
freshman at a university experiences is living on their own for the first time. For me this was probably the biggest aspect of coming to Northwood, and
staying in the dorms. Gates states, "Whether they admit or not, most students will at one point get homesick, especially those who attend a school ...

Whether it is three essays all due in the same week, or four exams I need to study for at the same time. I am paying for my college, so I am trying
to get the best knowledge I can for what I am paying for. Like most students here at Northwood I am taking 6 classes or 16 credits, along with playing
a sport. Although I am only playing club lacrosse it is still something I dedicate my time to. Gates stated, "For many, college courses require much
more effort than high school classes did. Many students take a full 15 credit semester, while others try to cam in up to 18 or even 21 credits." (Gates,
2015) To me this statement is one hundred percent accurate, and it has been very stressful first semester for me thus far. Last aspect that worried me
is health issues with my first year of college, or gaining the freshman 15. My whole life I have played multiple sports. Throughout high school I was a
three–sport athlete. I was very active my entire life, and involved with many things. Coming to college and not playing more than one sport, I was
worried that I would gain a bunch of weight. Also, with having an unlimited food plan to the cafГ© I was worried I would not eat healthy, and eat
way too much. Krans stated, "according to a study in the Journal of Nutritional Behavior, about 80 percent of freshman don't fit regular exercise into

My College Experience : My Experience In Highschool To...
"College is an experience of a lifetime they say." That quote is definitely applicable to my experience so far, even if it hasn't been long. I've already
developed immensely as a person and I've only been here since August 17th, so close to two months. College is a transition like no other I've
experienced before. I mean over the years as a student you've had to transition through various phases like from preschool to kindergarten and then
middle school and from middle school to highschool, but highschool to college seems like the greatest leap. Through my time spent here I've already
learned some valuable lessons. However the most important traits i've noticed about myself is that I'm starting to become independent, I'm learning
how to balance different aspects of my life, and I've learned that education is all in my hands.
When I first came to college I was nervous just as I'm sure the majority of my classmates were, however I was nervous mostly because of the fact I
knew I wasn't an independent person. I always wondered will I ever become independent? Now i'm not saying I'm already entirely independent but
I will say I've learned how to do my own laundry. Yes I paid $40,000 to learn how to do laundry great. With becoming more independent you learn to
grow as an individual in numerous ways. I've figured out how to manage my time much better. I have class at from 8:45 to 9:35 and then a class from
12:25–1:45 that means that I'll study from 9:45 to 11:45 go eat lunch, go to class, study again and then go to soccer. I've essentially learned how to
map out my day making use of my time wisely. I'm still not an expert at it but I'm adapting.
Balancing all aspects of my life has been the most challenging for me. I have a hard time balancing school, relationships, family, soccer, and finding
time to study and have fun. When I first came here I was more than overwhelmed, but I realized many of my friends were too. Through time I've
started to learn how to intertwine the different parts of my life and how to make myself happy. Yes, I'm here for my education but I also need to
enjoy my time here and take breaks from studying. The first few weeks of school all I did was study. All the time. Thankfully, my roommate

My Experience in College Writing
Let's face it; writing is n't exactly a favorite course for most of us. Writing classes hold many unthought–of benefits. In my College Writing course, I
significantly improved my writing skills and was an eye–opening learning experience. Initially, writing essays intimidated me; I learned that my
grammar was terrible and that I had forgotten the many components of the writing process. Overall, I inherited many writing skills that significantly
strengthened my overall writing abilities and my confidence in my work. My College Writing course last semester was my first writing class since high
school in 2011. As you can imagine my writing skills were rusty, and I was not prepared. During my first day in class,

Not being able to graduate changed my life a lot. It made things better, but on the other hand, made them even worse for what I was put under, stress
and pressure. It was me, who was putting the pressure on myself, but my family put some of the stress on me too. Not being able to walk and graduate
was already humiliating enough for me, how I thought of myself, and was thinking of my future were all stress factors. I was constantly thinking,
"what should I do now?" It was stressful already to handle, but having some of my family put me down was even worse, I struggled with my ACT,
and worried about passing my classes at Ridge, and competing my requirements.
Trying to pass a test I was already worried about, I kept thinking to myself I'm going to fail, which was not a good attitude to have. I couldn't help it
but felt it was it was the only way to go, so I let myself confidence go down. All the negative thoughts I already considered about myself, what I was
thinking, and told by people was hard for me; but finding out I was not going to graduate and get my diploma was even harder to hear. Completing
school was very different than finishing school. Instead of getting my diploma, I got a certificate of completions. Competing is just participating and
doing your best, and finishing is doing something till the very end and being the best. I want to finish High School so I can get my diploma, not just do
all I can, but give it all I've got. Then I can finally get rid of

The Importance Of College Experience In College
While college is often seen as the greatest years of a person's life, the college experience has proven to be a time of extreme transformation and
development. However, given the number of contexts that are influencing students to pursue a postsecondary degree, one's transformative process can
vary significantly from person to person. As a result, colleges must continue to work to develop a greater awareness of the students they are serving,
while also considering valuable initiatives that will foster their growth and development. As I think back to the story I shared during my StoryCorp, I
started by talking about my background growing up in an upper–middle class community, where a vast majority of students were encouraged to enroll...

After explaining the context I grew up in, I then went on to describe my college visits and how I determined which institution had the best fit. As I
thought about what was important to me, I realized that I wanted to attend a smaller–sized school between one and two hours away from home.
Although I was also undecided about what I wanted to study, I also wanted to attend a school with a rigorous academic curriculum, despite the fact that
I applied to mostly safety and target schools. However, when thinking about the issues impacting many communities with high concentrations of
prospective first–generation college students, it is probable that many families are unable to schedule visits to colleges and universities outside of their
neighborhood. As a result, universities must be mindful of the personal issues facing families with first–generation college students and consider
traveling into the communities these students live in to give them the opportunity to learn more about the different colleges available to them
(Lowery–Hart & Pacheco, 2011). However, I believe that the venue of the event could affect the kinds of students who are willing attend these kinds
of programs. For instance, although I had not mentioned this in my StoryCorp, I had the opportunity to attend an event similar to this as I started to
narrow down which schools I was most interested in. However, because the venue had been located at a luxury hotel, I wonder if this space might have

My College Experience
"There are no secrets to success; it is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure" (Powell). The experiences that I have went
through have not been an easy route. I have learned many things, ranging from mathematics to science, English, and history. As I have progressed
through grade levels , each subject was instructed in different ways. When I reached high school, I started to learn the major details that I needed to
know in order to prepare myself for the next level. For the past three years of high school, I believe this experience has helped teach me the
responsibility which I need to know to prepare myself for a higher education. First off, the reason why I believe that I am college and career ready is,
because I have learned all of the information that I need to know to further my schooling. Being college and career ready means that a student is
academically prepared and has the knowledge and technical skills required for employment in their desired career field. College is a place for any
specialized education, and as for post secondary education, it is supposed to help an individual prepare themselves for life.
One reason mathematics has helped me prepare myself is by knowing how to multiply and add or subtract numbers. If I did not know how to, I
would not have things to take for granted. I must say that math is a hard subject to understand; it is very logical. Math is implemented in every aspect
of life; it is used in other subjects

this semester. First, I'd like to go through my experiences at Bradley during this first semester and how they shaped and molded me into who I am at
the end. I, like most people, have experienced the relatively limitless freedom that we have at Bradley, being college students. For instance, going from
a timeframe system of all day school spanning from the early school years until high school and then shifting to a timeframe system that allows a lot
more allotted free time is quite liberating and very welcome. Being trapped and confined to a single building for severals hours five days a week is
not ideal for anyone. It's almost like being in a prison, as many students have described school for years. However, this new freedom, while it is
welcomed, can also be disadvantageous because it can and will cause laziness because with more freedom the more people will put things off and I
myself have fallen victim to this. There have been quite a few times that I have put off assignments to play video games or to watch movies because I

College is nothing like I expected. College can either be fun or boring, it is just how people make it. The expectations for college were stressful,
overwhelming, time consuming, and being responsible to do the work. I hear people talking about staying up late doing homework and talking about
how hard the tests are. People always said that college is very stressful and the professors are mean, but it is not like that at all. The experience is
everything in college. Talking to people, most of them say they loved the experience in college. The parties, free food, the people, and classes have
made my college experience nothing like I expected. Coming into college, everyone told me that it would be very stressful and overwhelming. I'm not
going to lie college can be stressful at times, but I think it is stressful because of all my fraternity responsibilities. I definitely have to push myself to do
the work and not procrastinate, like I did in high school. Other than that, I really do not think college is that stressful. College has honestly been the
time of my life so far. I am staying on top of my work and getting good grades. I have the highest GPA I have had in my life, and I was so nervous
coming into college that it would be flat out awful. The worst part has to be that all the work is very time consuming. I really have to use my time
wisely. Time management is a big key in college, and if people are not that good with time management, it will be tough for them. Some

Graduation Speech : College Experience
First, I would like to explore the "typical" route students will take upon graduating high school. In 2015, there were an estimated 20.2 million students
expected to attend American colleges and universities, with 13.2 million of those students choosing 4–year universities (nces.ed.gov). Generally,
4–year universities prepare young adults for a degree that can help them continue on to grad school or a career in that field. Large universities have
massive amounts of resources, funding, programs, and professors that can help students network and find internships or jobs in their degree field.
Students also have access to hundreds of different academic, social, volunteer, or vocational clubs and groups. One of the best benefits of going to a
four–year university is the college experience. Both of my parents say the friends they have now are the ones they met in college, and they get to
reminisce on all the fun times they had. A university experience typically allows you to live away from home, thus gaining independence and creating
your own lifestyle. For most high school students, the university experience is a big reason in why a majority of students choose this route.
For some students, the drawbacks to a university outweigh the benefits. On average, tuition costs, school fees, and room and board at a public
university is about $15,000 per year, while private universities are even higher at about $40,000 per year (nces.ed.gov). While some students are able

Now, in Grade 12, I reminisce about the "good days" and remember how easy I had it back then. For me, the junior years was about getting the
"mandatory" (French, Physical Education, Geography, History) courses out of the way and getting a good solid base in the "core" (Math, Science,
English) courses. I think Harbord did a fair job of teaching me the material and making life bearable during those two years; but then came Grade 11,
the start of the senior years. Oh Grade 11, what a clusterf––– (excuse my language). The addition of two academically heavy science courses (physics
and chemistry) along with the start of more advanced English and Math ruined me. The jump in workload from Grade 10 to Grade 11 was
tremendous and I can only imagine how students that took all three sciences felt. I was NOT ready. I originally took physics and chemistry so I can
have an additional pathway (science) in university, but the unyielding combination of school work led me to fall behind on all my courses as a
whole. I had planned on getting high marks for early acceptance, but the high workload led me to give up very early on in the year (and many of
my peers did the same too). Friends of mine that went to other high schools say that their junior years was definitely harder than ours (they had
both exams and summatives in all 8 courses!!). I cannot help but wonder if harder curriculum may have helped them prepare and get used to the
increased workload. Now in Grade 12, I have learned from my mistakes and now allocate time better. Thanks to my two spares, I have less work and
more time to focus on my courses. My thinking is that if Harbord could not help me prepare for my senior years, how could it help me prepare for

My College Experience : The Meaning Of Coming To College
My pilot G–2 pen etches my name on the paper, and I realize the actual meaning of it beyond my signature on a line. I am leaving, taking all the
memories and experiences I've had in Tampa, putting a ribbon on them, and going off on my next journey. For a young adventurous person like
myself, it excites me, but all of us freshmen recognizes the nervous feeling we faced coming to college. However, humans have a natural ability of
making whatever place they're home. I had learned that in my life already, in this process I learned to listen to what was best for me. Starting as a high
school senior in the swamps of Florida and ending up in a place just west of the Smoky Mountains has been quite the transformation. How did it
happen? To start that story, it is important to know where I come from. Moving seven times before the age of 14 took a toll on me, but it also
made me realize something: how adaptable I am to any environment. My plan until the day before I committed to Maryville to play golf was to
attend Florida State University. For a very long time I always wanted to go the same route as my sister and of a countless number of my friends, go
to a giant university party it up and have the "normal" college experience. That just wasn't me. For me it wasn't the visit to Maryville, meeting

didn't help. The honest truth about myself

I believe that the main struggle that I will face in college is becoming accustomed to a new way of life. Growing up in a small rural town in central
New Jersey, I realized my area was not an accurate representation of the "real" world. Adapting to a new setting is a challenge that I am excited to
take on and overcome. Additionally, the course load will vary from the one that I am used to. I was briefly exposed to this course load in a different
environment during my summer exchange program at Oxford University, and I am excited to return to the rigorous courses. Most people would be
nervous for the complete change to their life, but all I feel is the eagerness to begin my college experience and continue my growth and learning. I hope
to handle the challenge of adjusting to a new environment with minimal setbacks through thorough research and preparation. In order to make the
transition from high school to college easier, I will stay grounded and connected to my roots in my town, but I will branch out and see all that my new
college environment has to offer. I plan to fully immerse myself in the college community by becoming involved in various clubs, organizations, and
activities. Additionally, I will stay organized to eliminate the stress that the change may bring. It is important for me to challenge myself so that I can
find my highest potential in a new setting.

"Life is unpredictable and change is inevitable," states Rhonda Payne, my aunt, as she comes home from a long day of work, tired and exhausted,

Payne lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and works at OneMain Financial as the Branch Manager. Payne wouldn't have any of this if she had not had

heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I
experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges
and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of ... Show

I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students
when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in
an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily
let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the
confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult
even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These
factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of
campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of
taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy
while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

My College Experience
My first semester of college wasn't quite what I was expected. My classes turned out to not be overly stressful or difficult. I liked all of them, started
martial arts again, had my first job, and am ready for the next semester. I was pleasantly surprised that I adjusted relatively easily to the greater
independence going to college afforded me and that I think I am relatively well–prepared to continue with my undergraduate years. I've learned that I
still have issues with managing my time efficiently, I still feel psychology is the right degree for me, and that I have a lot of things I want to study
and not as much time as I had believed to study them. I came to college to not only gain the necessary education to better understand what I want to
pursue as a career and get the needed degree, but to also experience the college life I've been dreaming of for years. Independence, experience as a
young adult in a diverse environment, molding myself into the adult I want to become, etc. I also continued my education because I love learning,
and I don't think I've had nearly enough of it. None of those feelings have changed, and I don't think they will in the future either. I've always been a
dreamer, I love learning, and I literally need a degree to do any kind of job I'm even mildly interested in (except maybe photography, but even then I
still need more supplementary education, even if it doesn't have to be a Bachelor's). The UofA has actually exceeded my expectations. I

My College Experience : The Best Experience In College
I was always told that the time spent in college is some of the best of your life, that the friends you make will last a lifetime, that you can truly be
yourself in college. So far that has yet to be proved true, its not to say that college has been the worst experience of my life but I have yet to find
my place. When I look around at others it seems they already have a place, and not wanting to bel left out I have began to play the role of someone
that truly belongs. My performance as Goffman would call it is a form of impression management, but it is no less me than me in other situations. "
The self... is not an organic thing that has a specific loctation whose fundamental fate is to be born to mature and to die: it is a dramatic effect arising
diffusely from a scene that is presented" (Goffman) The self I present is my front, it is a combination of the setting, my mannerisms and my appearance.
The setting informs the definition of the situation, different situations invoke different presentation of selves. In a college setting one is expected to fit
in, to have friends, to go out, have fun and to be yourself. Apparence are clothing choices, makeup accessories, and mannerisms are the small
habits picked up to enforce the impression of your self. At college I have tried to portray a well adjusted student, who has found her place and always
has something to do. To create my outgoing image I try to be in my dorm room as little as possible. This can be easily achieved during the weekdays, I
have classes through part of the day and the rest of the day can be spent at a table doing work. It is also easy to spend the night at the library and come
home at 12 or 1. The weekend provides a harder challenge, especially the nights. Working every Friday night was a blessing in disguise, what I
once thought would be a chore, became a reason to be gone most of Friday and return to the dorm after my roommate has left for the night. At that
point it is easy to change into clothes one would wear going out, that way when my roommate returns it looks like I too have had a blast on a Friday
night. Saturday then becomes the more challenging day, and night. During the day I can explore Carlsile or evn try to sleep in as late as

College Debt vs The College Experience
Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions in a young adult's life. That is, of course, if someone is going to college. For me, I'm using
my last year of high school to come to the conclusion of where I want to attend college. There are plenty of college options, but I have narrowed it to
two colleges I would like to attend: Owens Community College and Bowling Green State University. Owens and Bowling Green are both great
options for me, but I believe I would have a better time and experience if I went to Bowling Green because there are many activities and
extracurriculars that I could be in.
In all reality, Owens, financially, would be the best option for me. It is way cheaper, and a lot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

much. I'm very excited that I have already been accepted to BGSU and I can't wait to attend my first year at college as a

I had a lot of experiences in almost four months in USA. Be in college for the first time in my life is one of the most awesome for me. I've graduated
in Brazil last year, and I was really excited to go to the college for the first time in my life, and for my surprise wouldn't be in Brazil, but in USA.
This made me feel a lot of feelings. I was nervous, excited, determined, etc. After all bureaucratic process, I finally started my flight and arrived here. I
took the first day searching about the College. I took a college tour, the soccer coach took me for all buildings here and my future home too. It is been

I'm here with another friends from Brazil, and we help each other. I'm who speak better and understand better, so I don't keep my little knowledge

My College Experience
For many, college is a time of self–discovery. It is a time where many find their calling in life, their spouse, their passion, or their student debt. Some
may go so far as to call it the best time of their lives. While there is potential for me to eventually look back on my time at the University of Arizona
with similar fondness, for now, I have more pressing issues than finding my soulmate, like finding my next classroom along with many other stressful
situations. So far in my limited college experience, the major stressors in my life are religion, academics, and social interactions; however, there are
several ways I have found to manage these situations. This year more than any other, I have been having difficulty fitting my religion into my ever
intensifying schedule. I was raised in a highly religious, Mormon background. While my parents were firm believers of the Mormon faith, they pushed
us to make our own decisions in regards to religion. After a faith–shaking senior year of high school, I came to know for myself that the Mormon church,
or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints, is true, and this renewed my determination to put God first in my life. Little did I know how great
of a challenge this would be with the Mormons' weekly three–hour long meetings and two hour–long classes, not to mention the expectations to read
from the scriptures and to pray daily. I realize that from an outside perspective, these reservations could sound a whole lot like

My first semester of college taught me the importance of balance. When I got to college, I thought life would be easy, especially when I learned that

However, I did not realize how many diversions there were in college. Every other weekend there was a party or even going on. At first, I remained
diligent about my school work. I stayed in my room and did all of my readings and homework early so that I did not forget to do it. After a while,

College. What you just read is a pretty scary word to young adults fresh out of high school everywhere. With college comes the responsibility of
living on your own and with living on your own comes with doing your own laundry, being responsible for putting food in your mouth, taking care of
yourself when you're sick and bills. Can't forget those! Those factors that comes with being a freshman in college are pretty terrifying, however, they
will be the best years of your life. You find yourself in college. Not only that but you make your lifelong friends and potentially meet the love of
your life. From experience, as I am a freshman in college this year, I can say with 100% positivity that is is also one of the most stressful times of your

In addition to keeping a planner, surrounding yourself with people who better you as a whole can be a huge help with achieving your goals and
being successful. You want to find friends who motivate you to get work done and go that extra mile. If you meet the right people, it can make
studying way more enjoyable and doing homework less dreadful. Me and a few friends always go to our local coffee shop and have a study date or we
say we can't leave until we have finished at least one assignment. Securing friends like this gives you that extra push, that extra bit of motivation to
make sure you have a great first year of college! Most importantly a good way to make sure you have a good experience during your first year of
college is to always be on time. Being on time shows that you are a reliable student. Not only does it show your superiors or even potential employers
that you are responsible, but also that you have a sense of maturity. When you're regularly late, it exemplifies your lack of interest in whatever the
occasion and shows you can't be responsible when needed. Always set an alarm, maybe even two with a good amount of time needed to get around.
This suggestion will for sure up your chances at academic opportunities and impress your superiors. It's no doubt college is stressful for anyone. With
being organized, staying motivated, and always being on time, college is sure to get just that much easier.

My Experience In College
I never in a million years imagined that I would be a sophomore in college at Forest Park at seventeen. I imagined myself at McKinley surrounded
by a bunch of seniors trying not to catch the dreaded senioritis. College wasn't on my mind when I was handed a letter containing the greatest
opportunity that I've had and possibly the greatest I will ever have. I was chosen to be a guinea pig for a new upcoming program that would allow
juniors in high school to take community college classes on campus instead of attending their old high school. Participants were enrolled in both their
old high school and at Forest Park but would only take classes on campus. They were allowed to have the freedom to do after school activities and
sports at their high school. The program would allow participants to graduate in two years with a high school diploma and an associate's degree
completely free with no strings attached.
The thought of going into college at such an early age both terrified me and excited me. To even to be considering going to college at sixteen
seemed unreal. I never expected that I would be attending college at sixteen while all my other friends were going into their junior year of high
school. On the one hand, I would finally be in classes with people who took education as seriously as I did. On the other hand, I was afraid I was too
immature and didn't have enough life experience to contribute to the topics of conversation. The benefits of the program outweighed the

I must admit that the thought of going off to college for the first time, made me a little bit nervous. Would my roommate and I get along, would I

During this first semester of college, I had an 8 A.M. class. The one thing that will be changing for second semester is that I will not have any 8

with intramural sports. I have attended some of the athletic events this semester and very much enjoyed being a part of the team spirit. I also joined

My College Experience
Growing up, I never saw myself as one of those people who graduate high school and then off to a four–year college they went. It was hard enough just
to imagine attempting, let alone succeeding, at a two–year college. Even though, I had wondered what it might have been like to experience dorm life
at a college in another town, even state. But, for me, after high school graduation, I was enrolled at the Community College.
It didn't take long for me to realize College life probably wouldn't continue. Maybe it was the classes I was enrolled in, maybe it was knowing I
needed to find a job, or maybe it was just the excuses I used. Soon the college road, reached a sign that read, 'Dead End Approaching. Detour Ahead.
Proceed with Caution'. And with that, college became a distant memory in my rear view mirror.
It was during the early part of 2014 that I decided to walk my talk. For years, I told my son he was going to college; he was going to finish and I
would make sure he got to. But how could I say anything about college, if I couldn't back it up? By returning to college, I was going to get a degree,
proving to myself, I can accomplish and finish something. Hoping my son would see that I wasn't just talking the talk, also hoping he would be proud
of me.
Fast forward three years, and here I am, with a life road ending, approaching another sign, at the crossroads.

College Experience In College
After high school ends, most young people take the track to college. The college experience can be both exciting yet scary. There are so many new
adjustments to make and there's a whole lot more responsibility on your shoulders as an adult. However, there's no need to stress out about the
process. As you begin your collegiate career, it's best to remember a few key tips to be successful. Implement these tips as soon as you possibly can
and they will serve you well in your college years.
1. Maintain an income stream.
Many people will discourage you from working during your first semester in college. The intentions are well–meaning. They don't want you to struggle
with juggling work and school at the same time. However, college is your first opportunity into the real world. In the real world, adults have to
take care of themselves. If you have a car, you're going to need to purchase gas. If you ever want to fly home for the holiday breaks, you're going to
need to purchase a plane ticket. You'll also need toiletries and necessities for daily living. In this case, it's wise to maintain a simple part–time job or
side hustle. Whether the side hustle involves babysitting once or twice a week, freelance writing gigs or working in the cafeteria at school, make sure
you have a way to earn a bit of money on a consistent basis.
2. Develop a morning ritual.
The morning is the the time when you have the most control. As the day goes on, things happen and your schedule gets crowded.

My College Experience
When most people think of college, some of the first words that come to mind are majors, boards, and diploma. The problem with this is that all of
those words are associated with academics. Although academics are a big reason as to why you go to college, college is so much more than that.
Many different student clubs and organizations are available to apply yourself to. Being involved in more than your classes can better your college
experience by widening your opportunities, creating friendships, and making connections. Being a part of a community is very rewarding and being
involved on campus is an experience that will stick with you for a lifetime.
The past 17 years of my life haven't exactly been all fun and games. When I was six, my parents had gotten a divorce that left two little girls in the
middle in the remnants of a messy marriage full of problems and secrets. I have since then, learned how to live with separated parents. I remember
hearing my friends talking about family dinners they had with their mom, dad, and siblings. I remember seeing the family pictures featured on
christmas cards hanging on my refrigerator around Christmas time. I remember my friends telling me about how they love the holidays when
their family comes under one house while mine can't stand each other. While their childhood was full of happy family memories, all that I am left
is my parents fighting over the phone about every single thing, and my sister and I bouncing from house to house. I hate the holidays because I
don't get to experience my family peacefully coinciding under one roof. Holidays are days of chaos and split custody where we try to fit two
dinners, games, and bonding time in roughly 18 hours. Holidays are more of a chore when the three o'clock deadline where you have to stop what
you're doing and leave looms in the back of your mind. The time after the divorce, I was getting very familiar with babysitters and frozen pizzas. In
2013, my dad got remarried. In 2014, my brother was born. Earlier this year, in January, my second brother was born, and coming up in December my
mom is getting married. Life seems to move too fast when you have four families. My childhood has taught me that life is short and very

I expect this year to be difficult. I come from a small town and UNCC is huge in comparison, and not just in terms of population. The space between
my dorm in Witherspoon and the Student Union is about the length of my hometown's main street. To say I am experiencing culture shock is an
understatement. I want this year to be fun, be enjoyable, but I know it is going to be hard, especially during the first semester. There is a steep learning
curve to even being here, not even considering classes, just being here, just getting here, it has been and will continue to be a challenge. I have never

only here because of the generosity of others and hours of hard work. I spent middle school and high school with my nose pressed into books,
understanding that I would never be talented enough for an athletic scholarship. In my spare time I worked, worked because my family did not have

My College Experience
College is often called the best time of your lives but it is also the first time you are left alone with new experiences. Some of these experiences are
good ones you will keep for life and others are one that teach you valuable lessons. These experiences often can either make or break people depending
on their level of responsibility and accountability. For most college student's college is the first time they are on their own away from their parents
giving them a new–found sense of freedom. This was the case for me and so far, I would like to consider myself to be taking it very well. This new
freedom which I have acquired has been both a blessing and a curse. I love it because I can have a messy room or eat before dinner without out my
parents having a snide comment about it. However, I have less people holding me accountable to do things that I should be doing daily. Much like
going to class or even cleaning my room it all falls on me now to make sure I am doing the things I was once told to do. I no longer have my parents
as my conscious and guide but must solely rely on myself. Another big thing I have gained since leaving is independence. I am on my own and as of
right now the only person counting on me is me. I can do what I want really whenever I want. I can skip class or not do my homework and my
parents would never know but then again what good would that do for me. I must pay for my own food and gas and essentials to maintain a healthy
happy lifestyle. This

The Importance Of College Experience In College
Entering college and embarking on a new journey, everyone desires to have an ideal experience. This desire is driven by what they see on
television and in the movies. In college , everyone wants to get good grades and make friends, but everyone's college experience is not the same. The
college experience differs for commuters and students who dorm on campus in the way their relative independence from their families, allocate
expenses, and time spent socializing. Students who dorm gain independence, have no traveling expenses since they live on campus, and are more
socially active in campus life. Students, who dorm on campus gains a sense of independence. While living on campus the student who dorm is
responsible for their own well being. Some freshmen from the ages (17–19) , transitioning from High school to college are accustomed to relying on
their parents a lot. Some freshmen rely heavily too much on their parents that they never learn how to do their laundry. (Sharon Jones) " My
parents always did my laundry for me. Are you suppose to put the whites with the colors". Living on campus, no one is there to remind you of
your responsibilities like constantly being told to clean your or take care of you while you're sick. In college, whether you're an undergraduate
student living on campus or a graduate student no one is there to take care of you. In college general independence, means no more rules and
restrictions to follow at home. At home students who dorm is free from rules such as curfews, and regulations from family members. Students who
do live on campus have fewer restrictions as long as they abide by campus rules. Some students who live on campus have to occasionally take out
loans to cover the expenses of housing and meal plans. Unless some students are lucky or work hard enough to get a scholarship(s) that covers
housing and meal expenses. These loans can grow over time from interest. If student loans aren't paid right after college can result in debt that can last
you a long time to pay off. "Across the country, students are taking on increasingly large amounts of debt to pay for heftier education tuitions."

My Community College Experience

  • 1. My Community College Experience My education became my top priority when starting community college. I am first generation student and my parents just expected me to attend college. I did not have much help from my parent in enrolling or the process of entering college. I did not let that stopped me and continued to do my best. During my community college experience, I did not really like school and struggled with math a lot. I took the wrong classes my first year and changed my major two times. I was never connected to my college and never participated in any clubs or organizations. I felt like I was just there for class, I also think it was this way because I was working a full–time job at the same time. I honestly hated school but I knew that education is very important. During this time, I doubted myself a lot because I did not think I could make it through college. After learning about the Validation theory by Laura Rendon which states "nontraditional students (whom Rendom defined as those from diverse racial/ethnic and cultural background) often doubted their academic ability" (Patton et al. 2016 p. 39). I felt connected to this theory right away because I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Self–Authorship is defined as "the internal capacity to define one's belief, identity, and social relations" (Baxter Magolda 2016 p. 365). I was finally making more on my own decisions, having a major chosen now was more important to me than anything else. I started to question why I was going into the field of helping. Finding more about my self–helped me figure out where I wanted to transfer. I took a year off between community college and transferring. During this time, I was trying to figure out on my own, what was going to be my next step. I was trying to find myself and what I wanted to do for me and not because of what friends and family had influenced me. Taking this year off helped me reflect on my journey and my ... • 2. Honors College Experience During the NJIT open house, I had the opportunity to visit The Honors College, and my first impression of the program left me in awe, I could feel the environment supporting a strong education through a non–enforcive way. From that moment, I envisioned myself participating in the Honors College: taking on the rigorous academic course and being able to do research early in my college career. My academic background matched many of the Honors College students' backgrounds, such as partaking in a variety of rigid classes. In fact, a few of them are from my current high school, Mcnair Academic, which is a magnet–school with a tough academic standard that requires a college level of commitment from the students. From an academic perspective, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. College : A Coming Of Age Experience In College College is a time in life where students attain a sense of the real world and commence a new road to independence. Despite the alluring effects of a college education, many high school students have yet to decide whether or not college is worth paying for. As time progresses, colleges are raising their demand on finances in return for a person to become acquainted with the intellectual properties for their desired career choice. Due to this dilemma, numerous teenagers have been dropping out of high school believing that college is unnecessary in order to find a job immediately. The progressive increase of financial gain in colleges have also raised some concern to the group of people that do wish to attend college, but cannot afford to obtain such prerequisite. While some may claim that college is not a valuable coming of age experience due to a personal conviction in which a college education is not able to fulfill one's goals, or appease prior expectations, college is able to be considered as a valuable coming of age experience nonetheless. The reasoning behind this is that a college experience allows an individual to discover their ambitions for the future and provide knowledge of who they are, while additionally providing a sense of purpose to their life in the future by transforming them into a more prosperous person. For starters, college would be deemed to be a poignant coming of age experience because of the opportunity for an individual to encounter aspirations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The College Experience Essay The College Experience "Tomorrow is the first day of what I will become." I wrote this in my diary the night before my first day of college. I was anxious as I imagined the stereotypical college room: intellectual students, in–depth discussions about neat stuff, and of course, a casual professor sporting the tweed jacket with leather elbows. I was also ill as I foresaw myself drowning in a murky pool of reading assignments and finals, hearing a deep, depressing voice ask "What can you do with your life?" Since then, I've settled comfortably into the college "scene" and have treated myself to the myth that I'll hear my calling someday, and that my future will introduce itself to me with a hardy handshake. I can't completely rid my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now I'm taking classes, paying dearly for each credit, and hoping that an career will spring from it all like Athena from Zeus. Not a day passes where I don't reexamine my choices, and question myself as to what I would like to do to earn money. "Majoring in majoring" has been my motto as I've thrown myself over a few areas in which I hold interest. Nearing the stage where I must announce a major or two, I can no longer hide with my motto in hand. Perhaps the biggest contributor to my anxiety in this issue is my financial situation. If money were no object and my classes, books, and credits were free, I would be one of the grey–haired, life–long students in the front row. I would accumulate over fifteen degrees ranging from poetry prowess to molecular biology, and I would take my sweet time in doing so. Heck, I might even live in the dorms for a few years. As my bank account will clearly state, along with the decisions of our "not–so–benevolant" governor, my university education is not so idyllic. Because I am being propelled by financial aid and a scholarship, I feel a painful itch that I must sort through my college education in four or five years or plan to take out a twenty–year loan. I've heard all the stories about "Jackie" who switched her major seven times before finally becoming a physician's assistant, or "Larry" who took eight years to settle on becoming an optician. I've also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My College Life Experience My college life experience started in 2016, when I finally decided what it was I going to become. College will not only help me with my own personal goals, but it will help with preparing for my future career. Marketing Management is what I am studying for and I know a few things that I expect to learn while educating myself on this specific subject. There are, of course, many new things I am looking forward too when getting my diploma and degree. Once I receive my degree from Coastal Pines Technical College, I will want to achieve great things in my life and make sure that I keep trying once I get there. The college education I am receiving is helping me achieve my own personal goals in life. Since I have started college, I know my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once I receive the degree and I can get a job that I vision to have, I will then learn about more about financial stability. I expect to learn about not only marketing management, but also subjects surrounding the subject at hand. I will expect to learn how to speak to everyone professionally in the business. Learning to speak to my coworkers will consist of not only in the flesh, but in emails as well. With this learning experience, there will be a huge involvement of entrepreneurship and small business management. The year I have been going to college I have received my certificate for Small Business Management and Retail Merchandise Management. I expect to be educated quite well on everything needed for the job I hope to have in the future. With my time at Coastal Pines Technical College, I will be most excited about learning every detail of marketing management. The classes I have taken, business law was my favorite subject. It was very interesting learning the different laws in the government and what one can do in any case they end up not just in marketing. Another subject that caught my eye was the way the store is set up and why because it answered many of questions I have had about the arrangements of a store. I am excited about knowing more details about my major than I knew before. A subject I fear but I am eager to take is accounting. I believe the reason why is because a lot of students say that the class is very hard, but I always love a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Experience In College Now to recount my college chapter I would have to say that it didn't end so successfully. I began as a freshman at the University of Washington–Bothell (UWB) campus. There I followed the general path all freshmen went through; completing their prerequisites and adjusting to college life. I was like many students, still unsure of what I wanted to pursue in college but a key factor of college is exploration. However, as the year went by I slowly started to notice that the vision I had of attending this college was not what I expected. I felt that the courses laid out to freshman weren't beneficial as they combined the essential disciplines of say math, history, English, and science into one class they like to call 'Discovery Core'. Of course, you are selected to choose a pre–major of your choice where you would be taking the classes you'll need to complete the set of requirements for that major. At the time I was thinking about going into the STEM field as it was something I enjoyed doing duringhigh school. I took the beginning series of Computer Science and going into the class it wasn't a problem it was the end of the quarter that caught me off guard; the finals. I failed two classes at UWB, Computer Science in the fall and Statistics in the Spring. This isn't like me at all. As many teachers and adults alike can acknowledge is that I'm an extremely hard–worker who strives to succeed. Academics have always been my strength and really something I've taken very seriously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. My College Experience In College Going to college is a whole knew experience, and it can be scary to some freshman. Going to college can be a great experience or it can not be a great experience it all depends on yourself. Going to college may mean bad eating habits, or there may be a high level of stress. Going to college may mean that it is the first time to be away from home all on your own. There are many aspects of being a freshman in college, and One aspect that every freshman at a university experiences is living on their own for the first time. For me this was probably the biggest aspect of coming to Northwood, and staying in the dorms. Gates states, "Whether they admit or not, most students will at one point get homesick, especially those who attend a school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether it is three essays all due in the same week, or four exams I need to study for at the same time. I am paying for my college, so I am trying to get the best knowledge I can for what I am paying for. Like most students here at Northwood I am taking 6 classes or 16 credits, along with playing a sport. Although I am only playing club lacrosse it is still something I dedicate my time to. Gates stated, "For many, college courses require much more effort than high school classes did. Many students take a full 15 credit semester, while others try to cam in up to 18 or even 21 credits." (Gates, 2015) To me this statement is one hundred percent accurate, and it has been very stressful first semester for me thus far. Last aspect that worried me is health issues with my first year of college, or gaining the freshman 15. My whole life I have played multiple sports. Throughout high school I was a three–sport athlete. I was very active my entire life, and involved with many things. Coming to college and not playing more than one sport, I was worried that I would gain a bunch of weight. Also, with having an unlimited food plan to the cafГ© I was worried I would not eat healthy, and eat way too much. Krans stated, "according to a study in the Journal of Nutritional Behavior, about 80 percent of freshman don't fit regular exercise into their schedule." (Krans, 2013). He also states, "Freshman face an overload of stress, which can create sleep problems, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My College Experience : My Experience In Highschool To... "College is an experience of a lifetime they say." That quote is definitely applicable to my experience so far, even if it hasn't been long. I've already developed immensely as a person and I've only been here since August 17th, so close to two months. College is a transition like no other I've experienced before. I mean over the years as a student you've had to transition through various phases like from preschool to kindergarten and then middle school and from middle school to highschool, but highschool to college seems like the greatest leap. Through my time spent here I've already learned some valuable lessons. However the most important traits i've noticed about myself is that I'm starting to become independent, I'm learning how to balance different aspects of my life, and I've learned that education is all in my hands. When I first came to college I was nervous just as I'm sure the majority of my classmates were, however I was nervous mostly because of the fact I knew I wasn't an independent person. I always wondered will I ever become independent? Now i'm not saying I'm already entirely independent but I will say I've learned how to do my own laundry. Yes I paid $40,000 to learn how to do laundry great. With becoming more independent you learn to grow as an individual in numerous ways. I've figured out how to manage my time much better. I have class at from 8:45 to 9:35 and then a class from 12:25–1:45 that means that I'll study from 9:45 to 11:45 go eat lunch, go to class, study again and then go to soccer. I've essentially learned how to map out my day making use of my time wisely. I'm still not an expert at it but I'm adapting. Balancing all aspects of my life has been the most challenging for me. I have a hard time balancing school, relationships, family, soccer, and finding time to study and have fun. When I first came here I was more than overwhelmed, but I realized many of my friends were too. Through time I've started to learn how to intertwine the different parts of my life and how to make myself happy. Yes, I'm here for my education but I also need to enjoy my time here and take breaks from studying. The first few weeks of school all I did was study. All the time. Thankfully, my roommate ... • 9. College Writing Experience My Experience in College Writing Let's face it; writing is n't exactly a favorite course for most of us. Writing classes hold many unthought–of benefits. In my College Writing course, I significantly improved my writing skills and was an eye–opening learning experience. Initially, writing essays intimidated me; I learned that my grammar was terrible and that I had forgotten the many components of the writing process. Overall, I inherited many writing skills that significantly strengthened my overall writing abilities and my confidence in my work. My College Writing course last semester was my first writing class since high school in 2011. As you can imagine my writing skills were rusty, and I was not prepared. • 10. My College Experience Not being able to graduate changed my life a lot. It made things better, but on the other hand, made them even worse for what I was put under, stress and pressure. It was me, who was putting the pressure on myself, but my family put some of the stress on me too. Not being able to walk and graduate was already humiliating enough for me, how I thought of myself, and was thinking of my future were all stress factors. I was constantly thinking, "what should I do now?" It was stressful already to handle, but having some of my family put me down was even worse, I struggled with my ACT, and worried about passing my classes at Ridge, and competing my requirements. Trying to pass a test I was already worried about, I kept thinking to myself I'm going to fail, which was not a good attitude to have. I couldn't help it but felt it was it was the only way to go, so I let myself confidence go down. All the negative thoughts I already considered about myself, what I was thinking, and told by people was hard for me; but finding out I was not going to graduate and get my diploma was even harder to hear. Completing school was very different than finishing school. Instead of getting my diploma, I got a certificate of completions. Competing is just participating and doing your best, and finishing is doing something till the very end and being the best. I want to finish High School so I can get my diploma, not just do all I can, but give it all I've got. Then I can finally get rid of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Importance Of College Experience In College While college is often seen as the greatest years of a person's life, the college experience has proven to be a time of extreme transformation and development. However, given the number of contexts that are influencing students to pursue a postsecondary degree, one's transformative process can vary significantly from person to person. As a result, colleges must continue to work to develop a greater awareness of the students they are serving, while also considering valuable initiatives that will foster their growth and development. As I think back to the story I shared during my StoryCorp, I started by talking about my background growing up in an upper–middle class community, where a vast majority of students were encouraged to enroll... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After explaining the context I grew up in, I then went on to describe my college visits and how I determined which institution had the best fit. As I thought about what was important to me, I realized that I wanted to attend a smaller–sized school between one and two hours away from home. Although I was also undecided about what I wanted to study, I also wanted to attend a school with a rigorous academic curriculum, despite the fact that I applied to mostly safety and target schools. However, when thinking about the issues impacting many communities with high concentrations of prospective first–generation college students, it is probable that many families are unable to schedule visits to colleges and universities outside of their neighborhood. As a result, universities must be mindful of the personal issues facing families with first–generation college students and consider traveling into the communities these students live in to give them the opportunity to learn more about the different colleges available to them (Lowery–Hart & Pacheco, 2011). However, I believe that the venue of the event could affect the kinds of students who are willing attend these kinds of programs. For instance, although I had not mentioned this in my StoryCorp, I had the opportunity to attend an event similar to this as I started to narrow down which schools I was most interested in. However, because the venue had been located at a luxury hotel, I wonder if this space might have seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. My College Experience "There are no secrets to success; it is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure" (Powell). The experiences that I have went through have not been an easy route. I have learned many things, ranging from mathematics to science, English, and history. As I have progressed through grade levels , each subject was instructed in different ways. When I reached high school, I started to learn the major details that I needed to know in order to prepare myself for the next level. For the past three years of high school, I believe this experience has helped teach me the responsibility which I need to know to prepare myself for a higher education. First off, the reason why I believe that I am college and career ready is, because I have learned all of the information that I need to know to further my schooling. Being college and career ready means that a student is academically prepared and has the knowledge and technical skills required for employment in their desired career field. College is a place for any specialized education, and as for post secondary education, it is supposed to help an individual prepare themselves for life. One reason mathematics has helped me prepare myself is by knowing how to multiply and add or subtract numbers. If I did not know how to, I would not have things to take for granted. I must say that math is a hard subject to understand; it is very logical. Math is implemented in every aspect of life; it is used in other subjects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. My Experience In College This semester has been filled with many different encounters and situations. Many different feelings and people. My experience in this first semester is likely one that I won't forget, I will likely remember my first semester at Badley until the bell tolls for me and I leave this current plain of existence and begin anew. Throughout this paper I will discuss what I experienced, the problems I faced, and how I feel I improved because of this semester. First, I'd like to go through my experiences at Bradley during this first semester and how they shaped and molded me into who I am at the end. I, like most people, have experienced the relatively limitless freedom that we have at Bradley, being college students. For instance, going from a timeframe system of all day school spanning from the early school years until high school and then shifting to a timeframe system that allows a lot more allotted free time is quite liberating and very welcome. Being trapped and confined to a single building for severals hours five days a week is not ideal for anyone. It's almost like being in a prison, as many students have described school for years. However, this new freedom, while it is welcomed, can also be disadvantageous because it can and will cause laziness because with more freedom the more people will put things off and I myself have fallen victim to this. There have been quite a few times that I have put off assignments to play video games or to watch movies because I have hours or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. My College Experience College is nothing like I expected. College can either be fun or boring, it is just how people make it. The expectations for college were stressful, overwhelming, time consuming, and being responsible to do the work. I hear people talking about staying up late doing homework and talking about how hard the tests are. People always said that college is very stressful and the professors are mean, but it is not like that at all. The experience is everything in college. Talking to people, most of them say they loved the experience in college. The parties, free food, the people, and classes have made my college experience nothing like I expected. Coming into college, everyone told me that it would be very stressful and overwhelming. I'm not going to lie college can be stressful at times, but I think it is stressful because of all my fraternity responsibilities. I definitely have to push myself to do the work and not procrastinate, like I did in high school. Other than that, I really do not think college is that stressful. College has honestly been the time of my life so far. I am staying on top of my work and getting good grades. I have the highest GPA I have had in my life, and I was so nervous coming into college that it would be flat out awful. The worst part has to be that all the work is very time consuming. I really have to use my time wisely. Time management is a big key in college, and if people are not that good with time management, it will be tough for them. Some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Graduation Speech : College Experience First, I would like to explore the "typical" route students will take upon graduating high school. In 2015, there were an estimated 20.2 million students expected to attend American colleges and universities, with 13.2 million of those students choosing 4–year universities (nces.ed.gov). Generally, 4–year universities prepare young adults for a degree that can help them continue on to grad school or a career in that field. Large universities have massive amounts of resources, funding, programs, and professors that can help students network and find internships or jobs in their degree field. Students also have access to hundreds of different academic, social, volunteer, or vocational clubs and groups. One of the best benefits of going to a four–year university is the college experience. Both of my parents say the friends they have now are the ones they met in college, and they get to reminisce on all the fun times they had. A university experience typically allows you to live away from home, thus gaining independence and creating your own lifestyle. For most high school students, the university experience is a big reason in why a majority of students choose this route. For some students, the drawbacks to a university outweigh the benefits. On average, tuition costs, school fees, and room and board at a public university is about $15,000 per year, while private universities are even higher at about $40,000 per year (nces.ed.gov). I have been attending Harbord for over three years and I am very close to the finish line. This is my last year at Harbord, and I will be pursuing post–secondary education as my next chapter in life. Harbord has helped me shape my identity as an adolescent and reinforce my objective in life. Through the challenges and experiences I have had at Harbord, I can say with certainty that I will be leaving this school with more knowledge and wisdom then when I first arrived. Now, in Grade 12, I reminisce about the "good days" and remember how easy I had it back then. For me, the junior years was about getting the "mandatory" (French, Physical Education, Geography, History) courses out of the way and getting a good solid base in the "core" (Math, Science, English) courses. I think Harbord did a fair job of teaching me the material and making life bearable during those two years; but then came Grade 11, the start of the senior years. Oh Grade 11, what a clusterf––– (excuse my language). The addition of two academically heavy science courses (physics and chemistry) along with the start of more advanced English and Math ruined me. The jump in workload from Grade 10 to Grade 11 was tremendous and I can only imagine how students that took all three sciences felt. I was NOT ready. I originally took physics and chemistry so I can have an additional pathway (science) in university, but the unyielding combination of school work led me to fall behind on all my courses as a whole. I had planned on getting high marks for early acceptance, but the high workload led me to give up very early on in the year (and many of my peers did the same too). Friends of mine that went to other high schools say that their junior years was definitely harder than ours (they had both exams and summatives in all 8 courses!!). I cannot help but wonder if harder curriculum may have helped them prepare and get used to the increased workload. Now in Grade 12, I have learned from my mistakes and now allocate time better. Thanks to my two spares, I have less work and more time to focus on my courses. My thinking is that if Harbord could not help me prepare for my senior years, how could it help me prepare for university and life in the real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. My College Experience : The Meaning Of Coming To College My pilot G–2 pen etches my name on the paper, and I realize the actual meaning of it beyond my signature on a line. I am leaving, taking all the memories and experiences I've had in Tampa, putting a ribbon on them, and going off on my next journey. For a young adventurous person like myself, it excites me, but all of us freshmen recognizes the nervous feeling we faced coming to college. However, humans have a natural ability of making whatever place they're home. I had learned that in my life already, in this process I learned to listen to what was best for me. Starting as a high school senior in the swamps of Florida and ending up in a place just west of the Smoky Mountains has been quite the transformation. How did it happen? To start that story, it is important to know where I come from. Moving seven times before the age of 14 took a toll on me, but it also made me realize something: how adaptable I am to any environment. My plan until the day before I committed to Maryville to play golf was to attend Florida State University. For a very long time I always wanted to go the same route as my sister and of a countless number of my friends, go to a giant university party it up and have the "normal" college experience. That just wasn't me. For me it wasn't the visit to Maryville, meeting amazing people on the golf team on my official visit or the view of the Smoky Mountains from anywhere on campus, although I'd be lying if I said it didn't help. • 19. My College Experience I believe that the main struggle that I will face in college is becoming accustomed to a new way of life. Growing up in a small rural town in central New Jersey, I realized my area was not an accurate representation of the "real" world. Adapting to a new setting is a challenge that I am excited to take on and overcome. Additionally, the course load will vary from the one that I am used to. I was briefly exposed to this course load in a different environment during my summer exchange program at Oxford University, and I am excited to return to the rigorous courses. Most people would be nervous for the complete change to their life, but all I feel is the eagerness to begin my college experience and continue my growth and learning. I hope to handle the challenge of adjusting to a new environment with minimal setbacks through thorough research and preparation. In order to make the transition from high school to college easier, I will stay grounded and connected to my roots in my town, but I will branch out and see all that my new college environment has to offer. I plan to fully immerse myself in the college community by becoming involved in various clubs, organizations, and activities. Additionally, I will stay organized to eliminate the stress that the change may bring. It is important for me to challenge myself so that I can find my highest potential in a new setting. Her smooth voice came across the phone as she answered my questions about her life in college. Payne lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and works at OneMain Financial as the Branch Manager. Payne wouldn't have any of this if she had not had her coming of age experience in college. Payne grew up in Mire, Louisiana. Mire is a very small town in Acadia Parish near Church Point. If she wanted to make a living for herself, she had to work for it. Payne went to because, as she comically states, "I like nice things and I don't want to ride around in a jalopy." She chose her college based on " what I like to do: business systems." Payne majored in Data Processing. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. • 22. My College Experience My first semester of college wasn't quite what I was expected. My classes turned out to not be overly stressful or difficult. I liked all of them, started martial arts again, had my first job, and am ready for the next semester. I was pleasantly surprised that I adjusted relatively easily to the greater independence going to college afforded me and that I think I am relatively well–prepared to continue with my undergraduate years. I've learned that I still have issues with managing my time efficiently, I still feel psychology is the right degree for me, and that I have a lot of things I want to study and not as much time as I had believed to study them. I came to college to not only gain the necessary education to better understand what I want to pursue as a career and get the needed degree, but to also experience the college life I've been dreaming of for years. Independence, experience as a young adult in a diverse environment, molding myself into the adult I want to become, etc. I also continued my education because I love learning, and I don't think I've had nearly enough of it. None of those feelings have changed, and I don't think they will in the future either. I've always been a dreamer, I love learning, and I literally need a degree to do any kind of job I'm even mildly interested in (except maybe photography, but even then I still need more supplementary education, even if it doesn't have to be a Bachelor's). • 23. My College Experience : The Best Experience In College I was always told that the time spent in college is some of the best of your life, that the friends you make will last a lifetime, that you can truly be yourself in college. So far that has yet to be proved true, its not to say that college has been the worst experience of my life but I have yet to find my place. When I look around at others it seems they already have a place, and not wanting to bel left out I have began to play the role of someone that truly belongs. My performance as Goffman would call it is a form of impression management, but it is no less me than me in other situations. " The self... is not an organic thing that has a specific loctation whose fundamental fate is to be born to mature and to die: it is a dramatic effect arising diffusely from a scene that is presented" (Goffman) The self I present is my front, it is a combination of the setting, my mannerisms and my appearance. The setting informs the definition of the situation, different situations invoke different presentation of selves. In a college setting one is expected to fit in, to have friends, to go out, have fun and to be yourself. Apparence are clothing choices, makeup accessories, and mannerisms are the small habits picked up to enforce the impression of your self. At college I have tried to portray a well adjusted student, who has found her place and always has something to do. To create my outgoing image I try to be in my dorm room as little as possible. This can be easily achieved during the weekdays, I have classes through part of the day and the rest of the day can be spent at a table doing work. It is also easy to spend the night at the library and come home at 12 or 1. The weekend provides a harder challenge, especially the nights. Working every Friday night was a blessing in disguise, what I once thought would be a chore, became a reason to be gone most of Friday and return to the dorm after my roommate has left for the night. At that point it is easy to change into clothes one would wear going out, that way when my roommate returns it looks like I too have had a blast on a Friday night. Some may go so far as to call it the best time of their lives. While there is potential for me to eventually look back on my time at the University of Arizona with similar fondness, for now, I have more pressing issues than finding my soulmate, like finding my next classroom along with many other stressful situations. So far in my limited college experience, the major stressors in my life are religion, academics, and social interactions; however, there are several ways I have found to manage these situations. This year more than any other, I have been having difficulty fitting my religion into my ever intensifying schedule. I was raised in a highly religious, Mormon background. While my parents were firm believers of the Mormon faith, they pushed us to make our own decisions in regards to religion. After a faith–shaking senior year of high school, I came to know for myself that the Mormon church, or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints, is true, and this renewed my determination to put God first in my life. College life has been such a great experience, because of all of the new friends that I have made, along with the independence it has created in me. Throughout my first semester of college I feel that I have had a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that it is wonderful, that there are so many open resources for students to utilize if they need help on anything or have questions. During this first semester of college, I had an 8 A.M. class. The one thing that will be changing for second semester is that I will not have any 8 A.M. classes. I sometimes dread having to be in class so early, because I may have been up late the night before studying, and then would be tired the next day for classes. Although I did not enjoy getting up that early, I always made it a priority to make it to class. In fact, I have not missed one class this semester! Next semester, I would like to become more involved with the USD community by joining groups, clubs, or being involved with intramural sports. I have attended some of the athletic events this semester and very much enjoyed being a part of the team spirit. I also joined the Special Olympics Club, but I have never been able to attend a meeting or an event because of conflicting times with meetings and school work. Hopefully, with a different class schedule next semester, I will be able to have more free time to be involved with such activities. Future college freshman need to listen up! • 34. My College Experience Growing up, I never saw myself as one of those people who graduate high school and then off to a four–year college they went. It was hard enough just to imagine attempting, let alone succeeding, at a two–year college. Even though, I had wondered what it might have been like to experience dorm life at a college in another town, even state. But, for me, after high school graduation, I was enrolled at the Community College. It didn't take long for me to realize College life probably wouldn't continue. Maybe it was the classes I was enrolled in, maybe it was knowing I needed to find a job, or maybe it was just the excuses I used. Soon the college road, reached a sign that read, 'Dead End Approaching. Detour Ahead. Proceed with Caution'. And with that, college became a distant memory in my rear view mirror. It was during the early part of 2014 that I decided to walk my talk. For years, I told my son he was going to college; he was going to finish and I would make sure he got to. But how could I say anything about college, if I couldn't back it up? By returning to college, I was going to get a degree, proving to myself, I can accomplish and finish something. Hoping my son would see that I wasn't just talking the talk, also hoping he would be proud of me. Fast forward three years, and here I am, with a life road ending, approaching another sign, at the crossroads. I DID IT!!! I cannot believe I made it to this point. I cannot believe I am here, sitting with a DEGREE coming in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. College Experience In College After high school ends, most young people take the track to college. The college experience can be both exciting yet scary. There are so many new adjustments to make and there's a whole lot more responsibility on your shoulders as an adult. However, there's no need to stress out about the process. As you begin your collegiate career, it's best to remember a few key tips to be successful. Implement these tips as soon as you possibly can and they will serve you well in your college years. 1. Maintain an income stream. Many people will discourage you from working during your first semester in college. The intentions are well–meaning. They don't want you to struggle with juggling work and school at the same time. However, college is your first opportunity into the real world. In the real world, adults have to take care of themselves. If you have a car, you're going to need to purchase gas. If you ever want to fly home for the holiday breaks, you're going to need to purchase a plane ticket. You'll also need toiletries and necessities for daily living. In this case, it's wise to maintain a simple part–time job or side hustle. Whether the side hustle involves babysitting once or twice a week, freelance writing gigs or working in the cafeteria at school, make sure you have a way to earn a bit of money on a consistent basis. 2. Develop a morning ritual. The morning is the the time when you have the most control. As the day goes on, things happen and your schedule gets crowded. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. My College Experience When most people think of college, some of the first words that come to mind are majors, boards, and diploma. The problem with this is that all of those words are associated with academics. Although academics are a big reason as to why you go to college, college is so much more than that. Many different student clubs and organizations are available to apply yourself to. Being involved in more than your classes can better your college experience by widening your opportunities, creating friendships, and making connections. Being a part of a community is very rewarding and being involved on campus is an experience that will stick with you for a lifetime. The past 17 years of my life haven't exactly been all fun and games. When I was six, my parents had gotten a divorce that left two little girls in the middle in the remnants of a messy marriage full of problems and secrets. I have since then, learned how to live with separated parents. I remember hearing my friends talking about family dinners they had with their mom, dad, and siblings. I remember seeing the family pictures featured on christmas cards hanging on my refrigerator around Christmas time. I remember my friends telling me about how they love the holidays when their family comes under one house while mine can't stand each other. While their childhood was full of happy family memories, all that I am left is my parents fighting over the phone about every single thing, and my sister and I bouncing from house to house. I hate the holidays because I don't get to experience my family peacefully coinciding under one roof. Holidays are days of chaos and split custody where we try to fit two dinners, games, and bonding time in roughly 18 hours. Holidays are more of a chore when the three o'clock deadline where you have to stop what you're doing and leave looms in the back of your mind. The time after the divorce, I was getting very familiar with babysitters and frozen pizzas. In 2013, my dad got remarried. In 2014, my brother was born. Earlier this year, in January, my second brother was born, and coming up in December my mom is getting married. Life seems to move too fast when you have four families. My childhood has taught me that life is short and very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. My Experience In College I expect this year to be difficult. I come from a small town and UNCC is huge in comparison, and not just in terms of population. The space between my dorm in Witherspoon and the Student Union is about the length of my hometown's main street. To say I am experiencing culture shock is an understatement. I want this year to be fun, be enjoyable, but I know it is going to be hard, especially during the first semester. There is a steep learning curve to even being here, not even considering classes, just being here, just getting here, it has been and will continue to be a challenge. I have never been away from home for more than two weeks at a time and this past Friday marked my first two weeks here. I have never felt more homesick. My family is trying to help, but I am a first–generation college student and we are all in the dark as to how I am supposed to scale this mountain. I am only here because of the generosity of others and hours of hard work. I spent middle school and high school with my nose pressed into books, understanding that I would never be talented enough for an athletic scholarship. In my spare time I worked, worked because my family did not have enough money to send me anywhere. I earned scholarships and I got here and I knew that college was going to be hard academically, and that I would have to work, but even before the real work has begun I have been slapped in the face by something much worse, loneliness. Years of focusing on my jobs and on school work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. My College Experience College is often called the best time of your lives but it is also the first time you are left alone with new experiences. Some of these experiences are good ones you will keep for life and others are one that teach you valuable lessons. These experiences often can either make or break people depending on their level of responsibility and accountability. For most college student's college is the first time they are on their own away from their parents giving them a new–found sense of freedom. This was the case for me and so far, I would like to consider myself to be taking it very well. This new freedom which I have acquired has been both a blessing and a curse. I love it because I can have a messy room or eat before dinner without out my parents having a snide comment about it. However, I have less people holding me accountable to do things that I should be doing daily. Much like going to class or even cleaning my room it all falls on me now to make sure I am doing the things I was once told to do. I no longer have my parents as my conscious and guide but must solely rely on myself. Another big thing I have gained since leaving is independence. I am on my own and as of right now the only person counting on me is me. I can do what I want really whenever I want. I can skip class or not do my homework and my parents would never know but then again what good would that do for me. I must pay for my own food and gas and essentials to maintain a healthy happy lifestyle. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Augustana College Experience I arrived on Augustana's campus on August 8 for football fall camp. Compared to the non–athlete students, I have been here a couple weeks longer. Overall, I have enjoyed my time here so far, it has been an amazing environment! From football to classes, I have been able to meet some amazing friends which has just enhanced my experiences so far. Academics wise my expectations for Augustana were very high, especially knowing how prestigious this college is. With getting a first hand experience with the academic side of school, I have been very impressed. Not only have I noticed how prestigious this college is, I have also been able to make great relationships with my professors. This allows me to have a better connection with them, and ...
