To whom it may concern,
It is a genuine pleasure and honor that I recommend Amanda Purnell for entry into your graduate
program. I have known Ms. Purnell since 2008 when I initially hired her to work at American Village
Camps in France. Her positive attitude and leadership skills in 2008 lead me to re-hire her in 2009, and
again in 2012. She should certainly continue her education in a graduate course to become a certified
teacher.
In 2008 and 2009, Ms. Purnell worked as an English teacher at American Village. She was responsible for
planning and implementing the camp program. She created lesson plans and taught English class, as well
as executed afternoon and evening language-learning activities. She worked on a staff team of 15 multi-
cultural language counselors, that managed groups of up to 75 French children for two weeks at a time,
for two months. She excelled as a first-time counselor & teacher, and was a strong motivating force as a
returning counselor in 2009, when she helped new counselors adapt to the rhythms and daily tasks of
our program.
In 2012 Ms. Purnell was promoted to the position of Assistant Village Director. In this role, she
successfully balanced her existing workload while managing the staff team. She oversaw the quality of
the English classes given by other teachers and mentored new counselor/teachers. She oversaw the
organisation of activities in English and replaced the director from time to time.
I believe that it is her personal qualities that serve to make Ms. Purnell well-respected by her colleagues,
our program’s participants, and the administration of our organization. Ms. Purnell is a very friendly,
honest and down-to-Earth person. She has an impressive ability to adapt to new situations,
communicate with others, and accomplish team goals. She is able to implement suggestions and
continually worked to improve the experience of the students at our camp. Furthermore, she always has
a smile to give and is passionate about creating English lessons that reach program goals and interest her
students.
I wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Purnell for any program where dedication to education,
professionalism, and hard work are valued. I can say with certainty that you will not be disappointed in
her performance. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Cordially,
