Spss Case Study
Hypothesized Results Analyses in this experiment will done using SPSS. An ANOVA for when the faces of both race were paired with a positive or
negative judgement will reveal that it is a statistically significant predictor of reaction time. This indicates that participants were faster to respond when
their ingroup was associated with a positive trait. Participants will display longer response time for when the outgroup is associated with a negative
trait. One–sample t–test will reveal that there is no significant difference in the results in terms of the participant gender. Two–way ANOVA for the
interaction between age and reaction time for each of the four test groups reveal that there is no significant differences for both ages.... Show more

Those who have less implicit racial preferences are more likely to display prosocial behaviour than those who have more implicit racial preferences.
Discussion Results from this study suggest that children will be more likely to display prosocial behavior towards those who are of the same race as
them, rather than those that are of a different race. However, despite their similarities in helping their ingroup members, children who have been
exposed to a multicultural setting will be more likely to help someone of a different ethnicity than children who were raised in a community that is
predominantly their own race. Implicit preference measured by the Child Implicit Attitude Test is predicted to be robust in children of both ethnicity in
both age groups. The evidence provided will suggest that although implicit racial preferences do exist, the level at which the child has been exposed to
different ethnicities can affect their likelihood to display prosocial behaviours to members of the outgroup. The robust relationship between implicit
racial preferences and prosocial behaviours in this study does not imply that these results can be generalizable to the population. It is possible that there
are confounding variables that could have affected the results such as socioeconomic status, parent's level of education, and their child rearing
practices. Families of ethnic minorities tend to be in the lower socioeconomic status and have completed lower

Cultural Significance Of A Hard Day's Night
In this essay I will examine the cultural significance of Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night. Examining its influence on other films and cultural
phenomena, I shall argue that Lester's film invented or popularized many filmic conventions now considered standard in the movie and television
industry. This paper covers concepts such as montage theory, jump cuts, camera shots, French New Wave, artfilm (especially surrealism), realism
(documentary), and performance of the 'actors' (particularly accents) as they relate to a Hard Day's Night.
A Hard Day's Night stands as a revolutionary movie in the history of motion pictures. It 'invented' the music video, popularizing what are now standard
tropes of the genre. It is the first 'rebellious youth' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Lester did not invent all of the techniques used in "A Hard Day's Night," he borrowed and re–invented techniques which eventually
influenced many other films(Ebert, 1996). For example, Lester's use of jump cuts. Jump Cuts were a legacy of the French New Wave, which was
perfected by Jean–Luc Godard in 1960s Breathless. Jump cuts are utilized to "increase expressive effects of editing" and this idea was inherited from
Einstein's theory and practice of montage(KovaМ‚acs, 2007) . Koovacs, the author of Screening Modernism states that jump cuts suggest to the
audience the actions which are not represented in film and also represent 'narrative device' in which scenes or events are not explicitly told but are
suggestive (KovaМ‚acs, 2007)

Limitations Of Lactase Intestinations
The limitations that are necessary to be taken into consideration are the errors associated with the above research attaining methodologies. Using a
lactose tolerance test the arbitrary cut–offs are difficult when taking into consideration borderline values. The impact of certain cut–offs would
eliminate or include participant values that could impact on the big picture of the results. For breath hydrogen analysis and lactose tolerance test,
another error is the likelihood of false positives and false negatives. Most commonly is found in studies is that breath hydrogen reveals the most
accurate results (Mulcare, C. A., et al, 2004). The other errors come from the human participants themselves, which is why necessary eliminations are
used... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consideration would then be required of the types of pastoralism within the population is currently practiced and the relationship that holds with the
practices in the past. A specific understanding of the types of milk that was consumed whether lactose rich forms was ingested first or bacteria
converted dairy products resulting in lower lactose–containing foods. The Khoe and the San represent the current day populations reflective of their
original ancestors of the same area (Breton, G., et al, 2014). The ancestors of the Khoe–San populations of Southern African region likely diverged at a
minimum of 100 thousand years ago from all human ancestors (11 – Breton, G., et al, 2014).
Assuming the data could be collected for the Khoe population, the hypothesis being tested through further evaluation whether the recorded lactase
persistence is realistic given the subsistence behaviour of the current population. This would require archaeological evidence for the pastoralist
population by the original ancestors of the area. The introduction of pastoralism to southern areas of Africa is widely debated. It has been accepted the
pastoralism spread from North to East Africa and then to Southern African. There are a few pre–existing hypotheses attempting to explain the
occurrence of pastoralism (Breton, G., et al, 2014). One is called the demic diffusion model which suggests the ancestors of the Khoe originated from
an East African or external population that migrated

The Cultural Significance Of Forests In Nazi Germany
Nazis clearly understood the German cultural code, including the power of the forest as a crowd symbol when they produced Ewiger Wald. Robert
Harrison has pointed to the cultural significance of the forest as place of lawlessness and enchantment. He claims that "forests mark the provincial
edge of Western civilization, in the literal as well as imaginative domains" (Harrison). Forests, according to Harrison, have retained to this day their
associations in the cultural imagination of the West. The German tradition in particular seems to be intertwined with mythical conceptions of the forest
which, in fairy tales, for example, is constructed as the supreme authority on earth, as the great provider, and as the place where society's conventions
no longer hold true (Zipes). The Nazi's call for social transformation through a synthesis of urban and rural life, for example, which was called "rurban"
values by Arthur Schweitzer in his "Big Business and the Third Reich." The Nazis promoted the view that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During their rise to power, the Nazis' platform included a number of different and contradictory aspects, including "nationalism, anti–communism, anti–

forests" (Markham). Thus, certain contradictions existed in the ideology and it covered a variety of ideas. For example, the rejection of modernism
would seem to act against the belief in technology. With this eclectic ideology that at times contradicts itself, the Nazis naturally failed to implement all
of it into policy. In reference to environmental concerns, it would seem that other priorities had more importance or that it was always a matter of
propaganda, with their romantic ideas of the German environment never translating into

Essay on The Cultural Significance of The Tale of Genji
The Cultural Significance of The Tale of Genji
The Tale of Genji is one of the most important stories of ancient Japanese literature. Japanese scholar Sin Ohno said that there is no literature written
during the Heian Era which is written in as precise language as The Tale of Genji. The author, Murasaki Shikibu, is a woman. In thistale, we can see the
concept towards marriage of women during her period.
During the Nara Era, and some time before, the concept of marriage was totally different from the concept we know today. It is called "Tsuma Toi
Kon." "Tsuma" means wife; "Toi" means to visit; "Kon" means marriage. In order to explain the marriage during this era, I will present an example of
the typical interactions between men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time, daughters inherit the land from their mother. This shows that men and women did not completely rely on each other economically.
Men and women generally had their own properties and estates. Sometimes women rejected men coming to visit them at their estates after the
relationship began. On the other hand, men sometimes stopped visiting women. During the Heian era, traditional marriage was still strong. Also, in
some cases, when a man stopped visiting a woman for a while, another man started visiting the woman. While the new man was still visiting, the old
man might come back to visit the woman; two men might even meet each other. Visiting several women at a time was not considered rude during this
era.
Women were often treated differently according to status. Women of different status often hated each other and became jealous of each other. In The
Tale of Genji, women of the court hated Kiritsubo because the emperor loved her the most––even though Kiritsubo was in a lower position than those
women. There were many problems concerning marriage during this era.
During the Heian era, however, new changes occurred. The growth of a consuming public accelerated with the development of cities like Heian Kyo.
People used to work, even wives of nobles, outside on their farm land. Royalty started living on the money collected by the government, and also lived
on the properties and estates given by their parents. The population

Mindfulness And Mindfulness ( Meditation )
As a result of the post–hoc tests, the first hypothesis that 'the mindfulness interventions will significantly reduce anxiety compared to the control' was
supported. However, the second hypothesis that 'the mindfulness conditions will be significantly different from one another', was not supported.
Participants in the 'Mindfulness A (mandala) and in the 'Mindfulness B (meditation) groups each showed significant reductions in stateanxiety
compared to the control, as measured by the State–Trait Anxiety Inventory. This finding is similar to the results in previous studies which have also
demonstrated a reduction in anxiety immediately after participants carried out mindfulness–based interventions (Carsley, Heath and Fajnerova, 2015;
Sandmire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the bivariate analysis in the present study demonstrated that varied levels of initial pre–intervention anxiety scores may have influenced
the subsequent amount of reduction in state anxiety. In other words, having a high (pre–intervention) anxiety score for example, may have influenced
the amount reduction in anxiety experienced. There is potential to explore this effect as it means that some individuals may respond differently to the
interventions.
Overall, the present research could be viewed as a pilot study which has tested the comparative effects of the brief interventions on a smaller scale. As
significant results have been found, there is potential for exploring the the same interventions with more comprehensive research which also addresses
the limitations of the present study – most importantly, the low sample size and the simulated test.
5.1.2 Omitted ANCOVA
When pre–intervention anxiety scores were taken into consideration as a covariate, the significance levels of the reduction in state anxiety were found
to be the same as reported within the main ANOVA. A one
–way between groups analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was initially conducted to compare
the effectiveness of the different types of interventions on state anxiety reduction, with the pre–intervention anxiety measures as a covariate.
Preliminary checks were conducted to ensure that there was no violation of the assumptions. However, the Levene's test demonstrated that the

Sample and Method The sample for this study consisted of 1,204 undergraduates who participated in the NSSE survey as freshmen, from the spring of
2003 through spring of 2006. The setting was a large, public research university in the southeastern United States. The school is characterized as a
predominately white institution (> 85% majority students) and had at the time the NSSE was administered, and continues to have, a substantial
residential component as part of its campus environment (more than two–thirds of freshmen lived on campus). Bivariate correlations and regression
analysis were used to determine an overall statistical relationship between NSSE scores and the two outcomes of interest, time to graduation and GPA
(Pedhauzer, 1997). As a follow up, multivariate analysis (MANOVA) was used to investigate differences in NSSE factor scores and scale items for
students grouped using two criterion. First, students were grouped by whether of not they had graduated within six years. Six years has become the
benchmark used by the U.S. Department of Education for reporting graduation rates and likely represents the outermost extreme that is palatable for
those in governance positions in higher education. There now exits pressure from various consistencies and stakeholders for students to graduate from
college faster, as evidenced by the

The Influence of Context and Perceptual Clues on Memory...
A QUANTITATIVE STUDY TO ASSESS THE INFLUENCE OF CONTEXT AND PERCEPTUAL CUES ON MEMORY RECALL.
Abstract The influence of context and perceptual clues on memory recall.
The influence of context on memory recall was examined in an experiment based on Godden and Baddeley's (1975) Context Dependent Memory study.
Previous research suggests that memory recall is improved when learning and recall occur in the same environment. The current experiment examined
the importance of context and perceptual clues in memory recall by manipulating the learning and recall environments for a memory task using a list
of 30 random words tested on three groups of participants: each group learnt a list of words in one environment and recalled them in ... Show more

The results can then be analysed and compared in line with Godden and Baddeley's findings.
5. Briefly explain the rationale for your research
This study will attempt to replicate the findings of Godden and Baddeley (1975) by examining the importance of context in learning and recall. In
addition, we will examine whether lack of perceptual cues in the environment affects recall.
Method Between–participants experiment 75 adult participants (15 for each project member) – 35 males – 40 females
Independent variable – Context – Condition 1 – learning and recall environment are the same – Condition 2 – learning and recall environment are
different – Condition 3 – learning and recall environment are the same, but participants eyes are closed for recall
Dependent variable – Number of words correctly recalled
The 75 participants were randomly allocated to three groups. Condition 1 – 25 participants were given a printed grid of 30 random words and given 2
minutes to memorise them. Participants were seated at a table/desk in a quiet room. After learning there is then a 2 minute pause after which
participants were given a further 2 minutes in which to recall the words. Condition 2 – 25 participants are given a printed grid of

Discuss the Significance of Authenticity in Cultural...
Discuss the significance of authenticity in cultural tourism through provision and experience.
Abstract: Throughout this essay I have discussed that authenticity is relative and not absolute. The significance of authenticity within cultural tourism
lies only with the experience of the travelling tourist and their individual desires. Within this essay I have broken down the different elements within
cultural tourism and authenticity to help support my argument, which is clearly stated above: authenticity is merely subjective not objective.
1. Introduction.
What defines authenticity and why do we question the variety of views of authenticity? Is there a correct answer or is it just based on conceptual
studies? It has been one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I'd rather see the attractions and walk around for hours taking in everything I've ever dreamed of in the time frame of a few hours. I know that others
perceive this differently but that's my point, every one has their own beliefs and their own answers.
5. Existential Authenticity:
The concept of existential authenticity is not a product of tourism research. It is part of a long philosophical tradition concerned with what it means to
be human, what it means to be happy, and what it means to be oneself (Hegel 1977; Heidegger 1996; Kant 1929; Kierkeg– aard 1985; Nehemas 1999;
Rousseau 1979; Sartre 1992). This problem is complex within tourism because the term is often used in two diverse senses: authenticity as genuineness
or realness of artifacts or events, and also as a human attribute signifying being one's true self or being true to one's essential nature. Philosophers have
tried to break it down and come up with a meaning or concept but truth is that there isn't just one, and no one will ever be able to define it completely.
Being attuned to one's own experiences rather than interpreting the world through institutionalized concepts and abstractions makes people authentic
individuals (Maslow 1968; Heidegger 1996). "Existence and its meaning is determined by the person themselves, alone. As such my authentic existence
is my sole responsibility"(anonymous).
Traveling often provides situations where people are confronted with unusual

Additionally, the study did not include a treatment outcome measure that was checked for reliability, meaning there was not a list of numeric values to
measure the reliability. The study also lacked a reliability measure, a test of statistical significance, and there was no percentage related to the
follow–up. Though there were 20 miniature studies within this one, and it was mentioned that there were follow ups for a few of the interventions,
there was not a number stated as to how many participants actually followed up or what the follow up entailed.
There were not any statistically significant numbers provided for proof, though it was stated that varying therapeutic techniques were found to be
statistically significant. Lacking the statistically significant numbers is considered a weakness, because it does not provide support or evidence of how
significant or even if the study was significant. In a quantitative study, it is important to take note of the statistical significance. Without seeing the
actual significance value, there is no proof as to whether or not the study was actually significant.
A strength of implementing the QSRF model is that it seeks out basic information. Meaning, when I am evaluating the article, I am simply making note
of whether or not the study contains basic elements for it to be considered a

The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning
Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution, culture is "a shared system of socially transmitted
behaviour that describes, defines, and guides people's ways of life, communicated from one generation" (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has seen
humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime, cumulate over generations (Henrich & McElreath,
2003) and the accumulation of these successive cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd & Richerdson, 1996).
Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used 'microsocieties' to simulate different generations in a population. In such studies, participants are
replaced with a naГЇve participant within their groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum, Richerson,
Efferson, & Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, &
Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous generation. The
following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social
learning (Tennie, Call, & Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in a social context, for example, by observing

The Cultural Significance and Science of Asian Elephants Although there is a wide array of animal species that live in Asia, the Elephant is one of
the most prized and sought after animal species in the continent because of its large impact on culture and society. Elephants are one of the smartest
animals on the entire planet and they have a very big cultural significance also. They are very friendly with humans as well, which makes them an
even more likeable animal. Their cultural significance goes back to the Buddhist days and has carried on all the way to today. Elephants are
becoming an extinct animal and are an endangered species as pronounced by the IUCN. Asian elephants are herbivores and are considered the biggest
land animals in all of Asia. The average life span of an Asianelephant is 60 years and they have trunks that contain 60,000 muscles, which is why they
use it for so many things. Most Asian elephants have tusks, which they can use to debark trees and help protect them from various other things such as
predators. The skin color of elephants is usually gray and is smoother then the skin of an African elephant.
Asian Elephants have been proven to be one of the smartest animals on the planet. There are various things that have been video recorded and
scientifically tested to prove that animals can do human like things. Some of the things that elephants are capable of doing are identifying

The purpose of this review is to assess the links between rheumatoid arthritis and periodontal disease. Past narrative reviews have identified
relationships such as cytokine profiles and inflammatory mediators, supporting the association that inflammation may be central to rheumatoid arthritis

However the relationship between the extent and severity is to be defined.
Studies 1 and 2 used the standardised critical appraisal tool from the Joanna Briggs Institute. This is a searching and selection process that identifies the

good language learners refer to a variety of learning strategies, such as taking advantage of practice opportunities, willingly and accurately guessing,
handling emotional issues in language learning, consciously developing the L2 as a meaning system and a structure system, and monitoring one 's

Political and Cultural Significance of the Flavian...
Assess the political and cultural significance of the construction and initial use of the Colosseum. Throughout the history of Ancient Rome, the
construction of public buildings was used as a political tool, to manipulate the views of the people and to demonstrate the power of the State. The very
first emperor of Rome, Augustus, initiated social reform through the construction of buildings from 27 BC onwards. Emperor Vespasian in 69 AD used
a similar initiative, and throughout Rome's history it can be seen that times of civil unrest are often followed by a flourish in architecture and the arts.
An example of this can be seen in one of Vespasian's major building projects, the Colosseum, officially the Flavian Amphitheatre, which had

In 79 AD Vespasian came to his final days, dying before the construction of the Colosseum was complete. His son, Titus, was to take over his role as
emperor. Titus, new in his role, knew that he too must impress the people as his father had done, and so he announced the opening of the Colosseum
would occur one year later. This seemed like an impossible goal for the constructers, and Titus had planned an extravagant opening to ensure that none
would think he was less visionary than his father. Upon the opening of the great amphitheatre there were one hundred days of fighting. These one
hundred days involved the slaughter of an unfathomable number of animals and men; one source tells us that five thousand animals were killed in the
first day. The writer Cassius Dio tells us just how extravagant the opening may have been; "Titus suddenly filled this same theatre with water and
brought in horses and bulls and some other domesticated animals that had been taught to behave in the liquid element just as on land. He also brought
in people on ships, who engaged in a sea–fight there, impersonating the Corcyreans and Corinthians." This suggests that Titus had the Colosseum
flooded in order to stage a naval battle; however several historians question the technicalities of this, despite the multiple

Cultural Significance Of Art
What is the cultural significance of visual art and architecture? Introduction Art has the ability to tell the stories of history, fashionable movements,
spirituality and technology, therefore giving us insight into the lives of people without language barriers. This report recognizes the aspects responsible
for making art culturally significant. When considering cultural significance the main features include aesthetic, historic, scientific and social value for
the past, present or future generations (http://www.marquis–kyle.com.au/bcsignificance.htm). A variety of sources including an interview with a visual
arts educator who has in depth knowledge on this topic, and internet sources have provided evidence to identify the cultural significance of art. Art is
vital in the research of historic events, stories of religion, knowledge about technological advances and awareness or connection of human emotion.
Despite this, one's appreciation of art or meaning behind creating art, differs from person to person and has changed extremely since the birth of the
internet. Historic Important events and times have been told through visual art and can be dated by the age of materials, colour and difficulty of
creation. For example, there is a unique and simplistic style related to the first development of art such being from the Stone Age (30,000BC–2500BC)

tattooing in China, beginning with the Tang dynasty (618–907). Barbarians tattooed their bodies according to tribal beliefs and slaves were tattooed as
punishment, Read explains (361). In the Kirghiz culture women tattooed the "nape of the neck" to indicate marital status. This is a very interesting
scholarly source.

Cultural Significance Of Cultural Culture Essay
The studies into culture have been on–going and the importance of cultural significance in societies has increased in recent years due to the changing
dimensions of the world we live in. Globalization itself has had a very profound effect on cross–cultural interactions through progression in the fields
of communication and technology that allow the formation of virtual work teams, the elimination of borders in trade, increased labour mobility and
migration between countries. While theorists over the years have tried to define culture, it is important to note that cultural experts themselves have
stressed the difficulty of defining the concept without touching into different ideas and theories that contradict each other (Browaeys and Price, 2008).
Hofstede (2001) defines culture as 'the collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from
another '. In his book International Management (2003), Tayeb adds to the literature defining culture as 'historically evolved values, attitudes and
meanings that are learned and shared by the members of community and which influence their material and non–material way of life'. Some of the most
commonly identified elements of culture are values, attitudes, rituals and shared meanings that are developed by individuals over the course of their
lives through education, regional and national influences (Hofsede et al, 1991; Schwartz, 1992; Trompenaars and Hampden–Turner, 1997). Having

Synopsis
This study was conducted to examine the impact that music has on primiparous women and their pain and anxiety during labor. It was hypothesized
that music therapy would produce more favorable outcomes in reducing pain and anxiety compared to standard care without music therapy. The
women were chosen from a convenience sample at two hospitals in southern Taiwan with criteria that included: primiparous women with a normal
pregnancy, carrying to term, planning to deliver vaginally, and planning a natural birth without the use of analgesics to relieve pain. Women were
excluded if they received an epidural and if a caesarean section was performed. Out of an original 103 women recruited, 43 women were excluded or
dropped out due to caesareans, epidurals, or abnormal circumstances, and a total of 60 participants were included in this study. The average age of
participants was 27.12 and all were first–time mothers. The sample size was determined by Analysis of covariance which estimated 26 participants for
each group (Liu, Chang, & Chen, 2009, p. 1067).
Women that met the inclusion criteria and that were approximately 2–4 cm dilated were

Dynamic Influences Of Culture On Cooperation
According to Dynamic influences of culture on cooperation in the prisoner's dilemma (2005) by Wong & Hong, cultural symbols affect people's
behavior in specific situational contexts. In order to substantiate this hypothesis, the authors used a three by two between–subjects method, with one
hundred and seventy–one participants. In the study, the independent variable was icons, either from American, Chinese, or neutral backgrounds.
Additionally, the three dependent variables studied were cooperation versus defect, expectation of cooperation, and motivation to maximize join
outcome (Wong & Hong, 430). Furthermore, the measures of cultural priming were measured by exposing participants to seven slides of Chinese
cultural icons, such as a Chinese dragon, American cultural icons, such as the American flag, or neutral primes, such as geometry. The participants
were assigned randomly to the prime conditions and the procedure for each primes required participants to answered questions related to the prime they
were assigned to, such as naming the objects or describing the ideas represented. According to the authors, research has shown that these procedures
elicit the cultural knowledge systems among individuals that were needed in this study. After introducing the cultural primes, the study asked the
participants to play a strategy game, where outcomes depended on strategies chosen by the participant, and resulted in points gained or lost. However,
different strategies yielded

Part II
Part II introduces you to a debate in the field of education between those who support Null Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST) and those who
argue that NHST is poorly suited to most of the questions educators are interested in. Jackson (2012) and Trochim and Donnelly (2006) pretty much
follow this model. Northcentral follows it. But, as the authors of the readings for Part II argue, using statistical analyses based on this model may yield
very misleading results. You may or may not propose a study that uses alternative models of data analysis and presentation of findings (e.g., confidence
intervals and effect sizes) or supplements NHST with another model. In any case, by learning about alternatives to NHST, you will better understand it
and the culture of the field of education.

The Significance of Firearms on the Cultural Identity of...
In order to properly elucidate the degree of significance that firearms have on the cultural identity of the United States, it is necessary to briefly
analyze the history of this country. The U.S. has only been in existence for less than 250 years; its other leading counterparts in Western Civilization,
by contrast, have endured for over a millennium. Therefore, during the relatively brief history of this country, it is necessary to determine the role that
guns have played in it. That history can be stratified in three principle parts: its inception during the Colonial War, its expansion to encompass the
majority of the North American continent that was fully realized prior to the closure of the 19th century, and its current period in which it has
expanded as a global power. All of these developments were exceedingly belligerent in nature and powered by the use of firearms. It is due to
America's lengthy relationship with guns as the chief means in which the country was founded and expanded upon that ordinary citizens cherish the
right to brandish firearms today, therefore accounting for its full ingrained culture of firearms. The inception of a country from a political standpoint
usually involves a marital conflict of some sort, in which a certain group of people claim the land as their own for their purpose of governance. This
inauspicious beginning of nations includes those in non– Westernized culture (such as those in Africa founded by colonialism) as well as those in

What Is The Cultural Significance Of Blues?
In today's presentation, the presence of blues in this novel was explained, from its cultural significance to a black man from the south in America to its
development. From its musical roots in African culture and slavery, and the significance of the color blue, a symbol of mourning and sadness, the
signature blues and its expressive sound were featured throughout the presentation and novel. One of the most important parts of the presentation,
however, and of blues as a whole, is the form. There is a lot of repetition, of doing very similar thing over and over.

A sample in which the subjects decide whether to be included in the study.
2. Why is a voluntary response sample generally not suitable for statistical study?
This sample may have a bias resulting from subjects that have a special interest in the subject being studied.
3. What is the difference between statistical significance and practical significance?
Statistical significance is when methods used to reach a conclusion that some findings are effective but common sense may find that findings do not
make enough difference to justify a use or to be practical.

Essay on Analysis of Small Class Sizes
A Discussion about Small Class Sizes
Introduction
A low student–teacher ratio is often used as a selling point to parents seeking a better education for their children or to pass legislation establishing a
maximum student–teacher ratio for specific grade levels. When ratios are used as support for the argument they are often presented in such a way as to
slant the examples in favor of the argument. When such statistics are used for schools, they often represent averages and become very vulnerable to
manipulation and further debate. This paper will discuss the issue of small class sizes and the data that has been formulated and presented in the past.
When a class size is large it is often disruptive to the education of the group in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My first year of University study took place at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) where the class ratios went from 30:1 to 15:1. I have already
formulated a positive opinion regarding the PLU class ratio and have been comparing this to my K–12 ratios and my current SFU ratios that seem to
reach 100's to 1. This article casts some unbiased light on questions I have had regarding this very issue and the presentation of their statistics seem to
cast an honest and interpretable view on the subject but questions still remain.
Arguments of Proof In the paper "The Enduring Effects of Small Classes" the authors attempt to present more precise statistical data and thoroughly
analyze methods used to create statistical models in an attempt to further clarify results from two popular studies on student–teacher ratio. These two
analysis programs, the Tennessee's Project Student/Teacher Achievement Ratio (STAR) and Wisconsin's Student Achievement Guarantee in Education
(SAGE) Program were determined to have provided "significant cumulative benefits associated with smaller class size, with benefits being more
impressive for African American students. However, others dispute these findings, most notably the Heritage Foundation. The broader research
literature also raises questions about the generalizability of these studies. This conflicting research has led to a number of attempts to assess and
reconcile the existing evidence."(Finn, Gerber

High School Dropouts At Risk Students
Introduction High school dropouts are usually defined as students who leave school before obtaining a diploma but in some cases, are also labeled as a
drop out if they do not complete the high school curriculum within four years after entering ninth grade (Hampden–Thompson, Kienzl, Daniel, &
Kinukawa, 2007). Students who are considered to be at risk are more vulnerable to dropping out of school than others. These at risk students usually
exhibit behavioral, attitudinal, or academic problems (Lemon and Watson, 2011). However, other factors do contribute to dropping out which include
family issues, health issues, mobility, and cultural issues. According to Laqana (2004),high school dropouts present serious implications for society
such as reduced earnings, higher unemployment, increased crime rates, increased teen pregnancy, and increased alcohol and drug abuse. Currently,
there are approximately 1.3 million annual high school dropouts who might lose $355 billion of income over their lifetimes (Bornsheuer, Polonyi,
Andrews, Fore, & Onwuegbuzie, 2011). It is also noted that the prison population in some states is comprised of fifty to ninety percent of high
school dropouts. Whannel & Allen (2011), identified a number of aspects of the school experience which are relevant to school attrition. Usually it is
a process that begins for many in their early years of school and several factors contribute to the final decision to stop attending classes. These factors

Cultural Significance Of Teen Films
Teen films are the definitive genre that captures the adolescent zeitgeist during the 1980s, and its popularity still hold cultural relevance in the present
day. The teen films produced during the 1980s effectively represent youth concerns and the coming–of–age narrative, in terms of adolescent identity,
the different roles characters play, sexuality, gender, relationships, class issues and the generational divide. Exploring these issues is essential for
recognizing the cultural significance of this specific group of films and how they are important in addressing concerns of the adolescent coming of age

Sex and relationships are recurring themes throughout the genre and are essential elements teen narrative. Their portrayal ranges from comic
interactions to serious exchanges and emotional liberation from restrictive forces. Timothy Shary explains the significance of these two thematic
threads: "Romantic longing and sexual curiosity take on heightened intensity and profundity for youth in the adolescent years struggle to recognise and
cope with the emotional and psychological changes"(2002). The character's experience with sex are usually comedic and linked to sexual discovery
and loss of virginity, which are continually present topics in the narrative. It is is often a determinant that shapes teen identity, as well as providing a
commentary on societal questions regarding a desire of intimacy. The sexual exploits between the teen male and female investigates teen behavior and
the conceptualization of feelings and emotions in their discovery of identity. Another convention which surfaces again and again during the 1980s teen
genre is the generational divide that exists in the familial structure, resulting in teens rebelling against adult authority. Within the genre adults are often
portrayed in a negative light in both comical and serious ways: teachers are depicted as corrupt and arrogant as incompetent social figures. Parents are
often unseen, distant, emotionally detached, cold, violent and abusive. The setting and

Biology And Reading Comprehension Exams
At the start and finish of a school year, a group of Italian third– and fifth–grade students with diverse sociocultural levels underwent two studies in
which their concurrent and predictive validities of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) and Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices (CPM)
were investigated. The focus of the studies was on their math and reading comprehension exams. The NNAT study is a "nonverbal measure of
general ability... intended to assess cognitive ability independently of linguistic and cultural background." (1 Pearson) The CPM study is also a
nonverbal test but, conversely, it measures the subjects' reasoning abilities. These nonverbal studies were helpful in presenting meaningful data for
forecasting the academic performance of students with diverse sociocultural levels. The studied group consisted of 253 participants. The
participants' characteristics were the following: (1) their average age was 9.4 years (with a standard deviation of 1.1 years of age), (2) 130 were female
and 123 were male, and (3) 126 were in the third–grade and 127 were in the fifth–grade. Their Family Cultural Status (FCS) characteristics were the

The Cultural and Historical Significance of the Film 12 Years A Slave The cultural and historical significance of the film has changed and
reshaped the views and cultures of African Americans with the roles that they have as a race in society as a result of the racial formation and
performance portrayed in the film. The movie presents a verifiable and precise account of the collective experience of slaves in the United States
of America in the late 18th century. The basic facts of the movie from the start to the finish concern events about the places, the time, and the
practices that took place during the slave era in detail. The movie is inspired by a book written by David Wilson about the narrative events of
Solomon Northup as a slave. Both the book and the movie share the same title. In the book, he speaks with a lot of authority on all subjects
especially enslavement of black Americans and in the process, he names popular leaders as well as several other landmarks without fear of
contradiction because we understand that public records have enough knowledge to defend his position. In the movie, the slave trader is accused of
keeping slaves as captive in a slave pen in Washington DC. Not only is the name of the slave and the slaver mentioned, but also their accomplices in

Investigation of Turkish Students' Mathematics Performance based on PISA 2012 Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the
relationship between selected student– and school–level variables and mathematics performance of Turkish students using PISA 2012 dataset. Two
research questions were investigated: (1) How much do schools vary in their mean mathematics achievement in Turkey? (2) Which student– and
school–level variables are associated with students' mathematics performance in Turkey based on PISA 2012 results? Theoretical Framework PISA is
a 3–year cycle of international assessment, which has been organized by Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development (OECD) since
2000. The primary aim of the PISA assessments is to determine the extent to which young people, who are 15–years old, have acquired the wider
knowledge and skills that they will need in their real–life challenges with considering a literacy perspective in reading, mathematics, and science.
According to PISA 2012 overall results, Turkey ranked 44th, 42nd, and 43rd positions across the 65 countries in mathematics, reading and science,
respectively (OECD, 2014b). In this present study, some student– and school variables were chosen to determine if there is any effect on students'
mathematics performance in Turkey. Gender is the first variable coming to mind when someone starts an educational research because there are not

Teaching Methods and Student Achievent
Introduction There are many views on how to educate children of the 21st century. Today's education world is focused on student achievement based
on standardized test scores. Each year, teachers, districts, and states participate in state testing which shows progress toward a common goal per state,
proficiency in academic core content. However, these standardized tests vary from state to state and examined at the national level. Therefore, the
level of accuracy cannot be determined as to which states, school districts, and school sites are making great strides to close the achievement gap.
Effective teachers are closing the gap by using a variety of strategies and methods in the classroom.
Statement of the Problem Since the adoption of the No Child Left Behind laws of 2002 states, school districts, and teachers have been on a mission to
find ways to make instruction and learning meaningful to students while meeting the goals set forth by the national and state legislatures while closing
the achievement gap and making sure students are successful. Over the years, many new trends as to how to close the achievement gap have
flourished. With these trends come numerous amounts of research proving why a particular new teaching methodology is going to work over another;
states, school districts, and school sites are at the mercy of these trends to help close the gap to meet the national educational goal of all students must

demonstration, I break it down into 3 parts: First is an example that the culture differences affect international companies in China; Second is the
significance of these cultural differences; Third is how the companies would overcome them.
For the first part, there will be examples of international companies which set up a business in China. As we know, since China joined the WTO in 2001,
many foreign companies were attracted by China's huge market and lower labour cost. But some of them experienced hard times when they came into

Then, in the following part, I will give a more clearly demonstration based on real evidence and shows what are the China's specificity and why the
culture differences is significance for international companies in China.
Significance of cultural differences in China
Culture is a very widely identity. For a company, we usually consider two main parts: the national culture, and the corporate culture. So when talk about
Chinese culture's influence to international firms, I will include both Chinese national culture and Chinese corporate culture.
For Chinese national culture, we need to consider many parts, such as the philosophy. Because of the long history, China has formed very complete
and complicated philosophy, which has a great different from western countries. Some traditional ideas are still kept in every Chinese people's mind.
A simple example is the advertisement of McDonalds mentioned above. Kneel down in China could never be a joke or used in an advertisement.
Because of the influence of Confucianism, Chinese people in some parts are more conventional than western people. Some things which have a strong
sex and violence implication may be forbidden by the government. The Techcn website (2009) [6] has showed that one of the reasons why Google

(2)Journal on Herzberg's Two–Factor Theory
The study, as reported in the journal, was using Herzberg's Hygiene Factors and Motivators to examine (a) what motivates employees in the retail
industry and (b) their levels of jobs satisfaction. Tan & Waheed (2011) stated that the survey was done by way of convenient sampling to select sales
personnel from women's clothing stores at Bandar Sunway shopping mall located at Selangor, Malaysia. One hundred and eighty selected sales
personnel of heterogeneity were surveyed by a questionnaire written in English. The questionnaire included a series of statements and questions
pertaining to determinants of job satisfaction. The survey candidates were requested to indicate their degree of agreement to each. According to the
researchers, linear regression analysis was performed to test the relationship between Herzberg's Two–Factor Theory and job satisfaction and further
analysis was done evaluating the relationship between money and job satisfaction.
The results obtained are found to be contradicting with Herzberg's Two–Factor Theory. The study revealed that the strongest motivation factor with the
highest significance level on job satisfaction is the working conditions, which is a hygiene factor. The subsequent factors that motivate the sales
personnel reported are recognition, company policies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Data analyses were run to examine the relationship between gender, race, and geographic location and the participant's frequency of physical activity
and level of self–esteem. It was predicted that males would have a higher frequency of physical activity and a higher level of self–esteem than women
and that self–esteem would be high in White participants than Non–White participants. Although the data was non–normal, there high sample size
allowed the Factorial ANOVA test to be run to investigate the relationship between the demographics and dependent variables. The bivariate
relationship between physical activity and self–esteem was examined with Spearman's rho. An alpha level of p < .05 was used and Tukey's critical
value was used for post hoc tests to identify the relationship between variables.
Description of data Exploratory data analysis showed the data non–normal with high levels of skewness and kurtosis. Males participate in physical
activity more frequently that females, while male and female self–esteem levels were fairly similar. Whites participated in physical activity more
frequently and had significantly higher levels of self–esteem than Non–Whites. Most of the geographic location participates in the same amount of
physical activity, with a difference between the North Central and South. Self–esteem across the geographic locations was similar.

The paired t–test is a statistical analysis test used to determine if the mean difference between two sets of data is zero. During the study, each
participant will be interviewed twice, creating a before and after situation. The paired t–test will then compare the mean values from two samples
(Surkis & Read, 2015). Statistical significance and practical significance are important when interpreting the results. Statistical significance is
determined by examining the p–value. The lower the p–value, the lower the probability of the null hypothesis being correct. This reflects the low
probability that conclusions were determined by chance. Practical significance depends on the participants refers to the relationship between the data

SPSS Case Study Analyzes Implicit Racial Preferences

  • 1. Spss Case Study Hypothesized Results Analyses in this experiment will done using SPSS. An ANOVA for when the faces of both race were paired with a positive or negative judgement will reveal that it is a statistically significant predictor of reaction time. This indicates that participants were faster to respond when their ingroup was associated with a positive trait. Participants will display longer response time for when the outgroup is associated with a negative trait. One–sample t–test will reveal that there is no significant difference in the results in terms of the participant gender. Two–way ANOVA for the interaction between age and reaction time for each of the four test groups reveal that there is no significant differences for both ages.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who have less implicit racial preferences are more likely to display prosocial behaviour than those who have more implicit racial preferences. Discussion Results from this study suggest that children will be more likely to display prosocial behavior towards those who are of the same race as them, rather than those that are of a different race. However, despite their similarities in helping their ingroup members, children who have been exposed to a multicultural setting will be more likely to help someone of a different ethnicity than children who were raised in a community that is predominantly their own race. Implicit preference measured by the Child Implicit Attitude Test is predicted to be robust in children of both ethnicity in both age groups. The evidence provided will suggest that although implicit racial preferences do exist, the level at which the child has been exposed to different ethnicities can affect their likelihood to display prosocial behaviours to members of the outgroup. The robust relationship between implicit racial preferences and prosocial behaviours in this study does not imply that these results can be generalizable to the population. It is possible that there are confounding variables that could have affected the results such as socioeconomic status, parent's level of education, and their child rearing practices. Families of ethnic minorities tend to be in the lower socioeconomic status and have completed lower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Cultural Significance Of A Hard Day's Night In this essay I will examine the cultural significance of Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night. Examining its influence on other films and cultural phenomena, I shall argue that Lester's film invented or popularized many filmic conventions now considered standard in the movie and television industry. This paper covers concepts such as montage theory, jump cuts, camera shots, French New Wave, artfilm (especially surrealism), realism (documentary), and performance of the 'actors' (particularly accents) as they relate to a Hard Day's Night. A Hard Day's Night stands as a revolutionary movie in the history of motion pictures. It 'invented' the music video, popularizing what are now standard tropes of the genre. It is the first 'rebellious youth' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Lester did not invent all of the techniques used in "A Hard Day's Night," he borrowed and re–invented techniques which eventually influenced many other films(Ebert, 1996). For example, Lester's use of jump cuts. Jump Cuts were a legacy of the French New Wave, which was perfected by Jean–Luc Godard in 1960s Breathless. Jump cuts are utilized to "increase expressive effects of editing" and this idea was inherited from Einstein's theory and practice of montage(KovaМ‚acs, 2007) . Koovacs, the author of Screening Modernism states that jump cuts suggest to the audience the actions which are not represented in film and also represent 'narrative device' in which scenes or events are not explicitly told but are suggestive (KovaМ‚acs, 2007) ... • 3. Limitations Of Lactase Intestinations The limitations that are necessary to be taken into consideration are the errors associated with the above research attaining methodologies. Using a lactose tolerance test the arbitrary cut–offs are difficult when taking into consideration borderline values. The impact of certain cut–offs would eliminate or include participant values that could impact on the big picture of the results. For breath hydrogen analysis and lactose tolerance test, another error is the likelihood of false positives and false negatives. Most commonly is found in studies is that breath hydrogen reveals the most accurate results (Mulcare, C. A., et al, 2004). The other errors come from the human participants themselves, which is why necessary eliminations are used... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consideration would then be required of the types of pastoralism within the population is currently practiced and the relationship that holds with the practices in the past. A specific understanding of the types of milk that was consumed whether lactose rich forms was ingested first or bacteria converted dairy products resulting in lower lactose–containing foods. The Khoe and the San represent the current day populations reflective of their original ancestors of the same area (Breton, G., et al, 2014). The ancestors of the Khoe–San populations of Southern African region likely diverged at a minimum of 100 thousand years ago from all human ancestors (11 – Breton, G., et al, 2014). Assuming the data could be collected for the Khoe population, the hypothesis being tested through further evaluation whether the recorded lactase persistence is realistic given the subsistence behaviour of the current population. This would require archaeological evidence for the pastoralist population by the original ancestors of the area. The introduction of pastoralism to southern areas of Africa is widely debated. It has been accepted the pastoralism spread from North to East Africa and then to Southern African. There are a few pre–existing hypotheses attempting to explain the occurrence of pastoralism (Breton, G., et al, 2014). One is called the demic diffusion model which suggests the ancestors of the Khoe originated from an East African or external population that migrated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Cultural Significance Of Forests In Nazi Germany Nazis clearly understood the German cultural code, including the power of the forest as a crowd symbol when they produced Ewiger Wald. Robert Harrison has pointed to the cultural significance of the forest as place of lawlessness and enchantment. He claims that "forests mark the provincial edge of Western civilization, in the literal as well as imaginative domains" (Harrison). Forests, according to Harrison, have retained to this day their associations in the cultural imagination of the West. The German tradition in particular seems to be intertwined with mythical conceptions of the forest which, in fairy tales, for example, is constructed as the supreme authority on earth, as the great provider, and as the place where society's conventions no longer hold true (Zipes). The Nazi's call for social transformation through a synthesis of urban and rural life, for example, which was called "rurban" values by Arthur Schweitzer in his "Big Business and the Third Reich." The Nazis promoted the view that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During their rise to power, the Nazis' platform included a number of different and contradictory aspects, including "nationalism, anti–communism, anti– modernism, anti–urbanism, racism, territorial expansionism, confidence in technology and ...the rootedness of the German Volk in the German soil and forests" (Markham). Thus, certain contradictions existed in the ideology and it covered a variety of ideas. For example, the rejection of modernism would seem to act against the belief in technology. With this eclectic ideology that at times contradicts itself, the Nazis naturally failed to implement all of it into policy. In reference to environmental concerns, it would seem that other priorities had more importance or that it was always a matter of propaganda, with their romantic ideas of the German environment never translating into ... • 7. Essay on The Cultural Significance of The Tale of Genji The Cultural Significance of The Tale of Genji The Tale of Genji is one of the most important stories of ancient Japanese literature. Japanese scholar Sin Ohno said that there is no literature written during the Heian Era which is written in as precise language as The Tale of Genji. The author, Murasaki Shikibu, is a woman. In thistale, we can see the concept towards marriage of women during her period. During the Nara Era, and some time before, the concept of marriage was totally different from the concept we know today. It is called "Tsuma Toi Kon." "Tsuma" means wife; "Toi" means to visit; "Kon" means marriage. In order to explain the marriage during this era, I will present an example of the typical interactions between men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this time, daughters inherit the land from their mother. This shows that men and women did not completely rely on each other economically. Men and women generally had their own properties and estates. Sometimes women rejected men coming to visit them at their estates after the relationship began. On the other hand, men sometimes stopped visiting women. During the Heian era, traditional marriage was still strong. Also, in some cases, when a man stopped visiting a woman for a while, another man started visiting the woman. While the new man was still visiting, the old man might come back to visit the woman; two men might even meet each other. Visiting several women at a time was not considered rude during this era. Women were often treated differently according to status. Women of different status often hated each other and became jealous of each other. In The Tale of Genji, women of the court hated Kiritsubo because the emperor loved her the most––even though Kiritsubo was in a lower position than those women. There were many problems concerning marriage during this era. During the Heian era, however, new changes occurred. The growth of a consuming public accelerated with the development of cities like Heian Kyo. People used to work, even wives of nobles, outside on their farm land. Royalty started living on the money collected by the government, and also lived on the properties and estates given by their parents. The population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Mindfulness And Mindfulness ( Meditation ) As a result of the post–hoc tests, the first hypothesis that 'the mindfulness interventions will significantly reduce anxiety compared to the control' was supported. However, the second hypothesis that 'the mindfulness conditions will be significantly different from one another', was not supported. Participants in the 'Mindfulness A (mandala) and in the 'Mindfulness B (meditation) groups each showed significant reductions in stateanxiety compared to the control, as measured by the State–Trait Anxiety Inventory. This finding is similar to the results in previous studies which have also demonstrated a reduction in anxiety immediately after participants carried out mindfulness–based interventions (Carsley, Heath and Fajnerova, 2015; Sandmire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the bivariate analysis in the present study demonstrated that varied levels of initial pre–intervention anxiety scores may have influenced the subsequent amount of reduction in state anxiety. In other words, having a high (pre–intervention) anxiety score for example, may have influenced the amount reduction in anxiety experienced. There is potential to explore this effect as it means that some individuals may respond differently to the interventions. Overall, the present research could be viewed as a pilot study which has tested the comparative effects of the brief interventions on a smaller scale. As significant results have been found, there is potential for exploring the the same interventions with more comprehensive research which also addresses the limitations of the present study – most importantly, the low sample size and the simulated test. 5.1.2 Omitted ANCOVA When pre–intervention anxiety scores were taken into consideration as a covariate, the significance levels of the reduction in state anxiety were found to be the same as reported within the main ANOVA. A one –way between groups analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was initially conducted to compare the effectiveness of the different types of interventions on state anxiety reduction, with the pre–intervention anxiety measures as a covariate. Sample and Method The sample for this study consisted of 1,204 undergraduates who participated in the NSSE survey as freshmen, from the spring of 2003 through spring of 2006. The setting was a large, public research university in the southeastern United States. The school is characterized as a predominately white institution (> 85% majority students) and had at the time the NSSE was administered, and continues to have, a substantial residential component as part of its campus environment (more than two–thirds of freshmen lived on campus). Bivariate correlations and regression analysis were used to determine an overall statistical relationship between NSSE scores and the two outcomes of interest, time to graduation and GPA (Pedhauzer, 1997). As a follow up, multivariate analysis (MANOVA) was used to investigate differences in NSSE factor scores and scale items for students grouped using two criterion. First, students were grouped by whether of not they had graduated within six years. Six years has become the benchmark used by the U.S. Department of Education for reporting graduation rates and likely represents the outermost extreme that is palatable for those in governance positions in higher education. There now exits pressure from various consistencies and stakeholders for students to graduate from college faster, as evidenced by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abstract The influence of context and perceptual clues on memory recall. The influence of context on memory recall was examined in an experiment based on Godden and Baddeley's (1975) Context Dependent Memory study. Previous research suggests that memory recall is improved when learning and recall occur in the same environment. The current experiment examined the importance of context and perceptual clues in memory recall by manipulating the learning and recall environments for a memory task using a list of 30 random words tested on three groups of participants: each group learnt a list of words in one environment and recalled them in ... Briefly explain the rationale for your research This study will attempt to replicate the findings of Godden and Baddeley (1975) by examining the importance of context in learning and recall. In addition, we will examine whether lack of perceptual cues in the environment affects recall. Method Between–participants experiment 75 adult participants (15 for each project member) – 35 males – 40 females Independent variable – Context – Condition 1 – learning and recall environment are the same – Condition 2 – learning and recall environment are different – Condition 3 – learning and recall environment are the same, but participants eyes are closed for recall Dependent variable – Number of words correctly recalled The 75 participants were randomly allocated to three groups. Condition 1 – 25 participants were given a printed grid of 30 random words and given 2 minutes to memorise them. Participants were seated at a table/desk in a quiet room. After learning there is then a 2 minute pause after which participants were given a further 2 minutes in which to recall the words. Condition 2 – 25 participants are given a printed grid of

Abstract: Throughout this essay I have discussed that authenticity is relative and not absolute. The significance of authenticity within cultural tourism lies only with the experience of the travelling tourist and their individual desires. Within this essay I have broken down the different elements within cultural tourism and authenticity to help support my argument, which is clearly stated above: authenticity is merely subjective not objective. 1. Introduction. What defines authenticity and why do we question the variety of views of authenticity? Is there a correct answer or is it just based on conceptual studies? It has been one of the ... I know that others perceive this differently but that's my point, every one has their own beliefs and their own answers. 5. Existential Authenticity: The concept of existential authenticity is not a product of tourism research. It is part of a long philosophical tradition concerned with what it means to be human, what it means to be happy, and what it means to be oneself (Hegel 1977; Heidegger 1996; Kant 1929; Kierkeg– aard 1985; Nehemas 1999; Rousseau 1979; Sartre 1992). This problem is complex within tourism because the term is often used in two diverse senses: authenticity as genuineness or realness of artifacts or events, and also as a human attribute signifying being one's true self or being true to one's essential nature. Philosophers have tried to break it down and come up with a meaning or concept but truth is that there isn't just one, and no one will ever be able to define it completely. Being attuned to one's own experiences rather than interpreting the world through institutionalized concepts and abstractions makes people authentic individuals (Maslow 1968; Heidegger 1996). "Existence and its meaning is determined by the person themselves, alone. As such my authentic existence is my sole responsibility"(anonymous). • 15. The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution, culture is "a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides people's ways of life, communicated from one generation" (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime, cumulate over generations (Henrich & McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd & Richerdson, 1996). Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used 'microsocieties' to simulate different generations in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naГЇve participant within their groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum, Richerson, Efferson, & Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, & Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call, & Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in a social context, for example, by observing others' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elephants are one of the smartest animals on the entire planet and they have a very big cultural significance also. They are very friendly with humans as well, which makes them an even more likeable animal. Their cultural significance goes back to the Buddhist days and has carried on all the way to today. Elephants are becoming an extinct animal and are an endangered species as pronounced by the IUCN. Asian elephants are herbivores and are considered the biggest land animals in all of Asia. The average life span of an Asianelephant is 60 years and they have trunks that contain 60,000 muscles, which is why they use it for so many things. Most Asian elephants have tusks, which they can use to debark trees and help protect them from various other things such as predators. The skin color of elephants is usually gray and is smoother then the skin of an African elephant. Asian Elephants have been proven to be one of the smartest animals on the planet. Strategies encompass a wide range of behaviors that can help the development of language competence in many ways (Oxford, 1990; Rigney, 1978). Lists of characteristicsof good language learners refer to a variety of learning strategies, such as taking advantage of practice opportunities, willingly and accurately guessing, handling emotional issues in language learning, consciously developing the L2 as a meaning system and a structure system, and monitoring one 's own speech (Naiman, Frohlich, & Todesco, 1975; Naiman, Frohlich, Stern, & Todesco, 1978; Rubin, 1975; Stern, 1983). Throughout the history of Ancient Rome, the construction of public buildings was used as a political tool, to manipulate the views of the people and to demonstrate the power of the State. The very first emperor of Rome, Augustus, initiated social reform through the construction of buildings from 27 BC onwards. Emperor Vespasian in 69 AD used a similar initiative, and throughout Rome's history it can be seen that times of civil unrest are often followed by a flourish in architecture and the arts. Titus, new in his role, knew that he too must impress the people as his father had done, and so he announced the opening of the Colosseum would occur one year later. This seemed like an impossible goal for the constructers, and Titus had planned an extravagant opening to ensure that none would think he was less visionary than his father. Upon the opening of the great amphitheatre there were one hundred days of fighting. These one hundred days involved the slaughter of an unfathomable number of animals and men; one source tells us that five thousand animals were killed in the first day. The writer Cassius Dio tells us just how extravagant the opening may have been; "Titus suddenly filled this same theatre with water and brought in horses and bulls and some other domesticated animals that had been taught to behave in the liquid element just as on land. He also brought in people on ships, who engaged in a sea–fight there, impersonating the Corcyreans and Corinthians." Introduction Art has the ability to tell the stories of history, fashionable movements, spirituality and technology, therefore giving us insight into the lives of people without language barriers. This report recognizes the aspects responsible for making art culturally significant. When considering cultural significance the main features include aesthetic, historic, scientific and social value for the past, present or future generations (http://www.marquis–kyle.com.au/bcsignificance.htm). A variety of sources including an interview with a visual arts educator who has in depth knowledge on this topic, and internet sources have provided evidence to identify the cultural significance of art. Art is vital in the research of historic events, stories of religion, knowledge about technological advances and awareness or connection of human emotion. Despite this, one's appreciation of art or meaning behind creating art, differs from person to person and has changed extremely since the birth of the internet. • 22. Cultural Significance Of Cultural Culture Essay The studies into culture have been on–going and the importance of cultural significance in societies has increased in recent years due to the changing dimensions of the world we live in. Globalization itself has had a very profound effect on cross–cultural interactions through progression in the fields of communication and technology that allow the formation of virtual work teams, the elimination of borders in trade, increased labour mobility and migration between countries. While theorists over the years have tried to define culture, it is important to note that cultural experts themselves have stressed the difficulty of defining the concept without touching into different ideas and theories that contradict each other (Browaeys and Price, 2008). Hofstede (2001) defines culture as 'the collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another '. In his book International Management (2003), Tayeb adds to the literature defining culture as 'historically evolved values, attitudes and meanings that are learned and shared by the members of community and which influence their material and non–material way of life'. Some of the most commonly identified elements of culture are values, attitudes, rituals and shared meanings that are developed by individuals over the course of their lives through education, regional and national influences (Hofsede et al, 1991; Schwartz, 1992; Trompenaars and Hampden–Turner, 1997). Carolina Escobar–Carter Synopsis This study was conducted to examine the impact that music has on primiparous women and their pain and anxiety during labor. It was hypothesized that music therapy would produce more favorable outcomes in reducing pain and anxiety compared to standard care without music therapy. The women were chosen from a convenience sample at two hospitals in southern Taiwan with criteria that included: primiparous women with a normal pregnancy, carrying to term, planning to deliver vaginally, and planning a natural birth without the use of analgesics to relieve pain. Women were excluded if they received an epidural and if a caesarean section was performed. Out of an original 103 women recruited, 43 women were excluded or dropped out due to caesareans, epidurals, or abnormal circumstances, and a total of 60 participants were included in this study. The average age of participants was 27.12 and all were first–time mothers. Dynamic Influences Of Culture On Cooperation According to Dynamic influences of culture on cooperation in the prisoner's dilemma (2005) by Wong & Hong, cultural symbols affect people's behavior in specific situational contexts. In order to substantiate this hypothesis, the authors used a three by two between–subjects method, with one hundred and seventy–one participants. In the study, the independent variable was icons, either from American, Chinese, or neutral backgrounds. Additionally, the three dependent variables studied were cooperation versus defect, expectation of cooperation, and motivation to maximize join outcome (Wong & Hong, 430). Furthermore, the measures of cultural priming were measured by exposing participants to seven slides of Chinese cultural icons, such as a Chinese dragon, American cultural icons, such as the American flag, or neutral primes, such as geometry. The participants were assigned randomly to the prime conditions and the procedure for each primes required participants to answered questions related to the prime they were assigned to, such as naming the objects or describing the ideas represented. According to the authors, research has shown that these procedures elicit the cultural knowledge systems among individuals that were needed in this study. After introducing the cultural primes, the study asked the participants to play a strategy game, where outcomes depended on strategies chosen by the participant, and resulted in points gained or lost. In order to properly elucidate the degree of significance that firearms have on the cultural identity of the United States, it is necessary to briefly analyze the history of this country. The U.S. has only been in existence for less than 250 years; its other leading counterparts in Western Civilization, by contrast, have endured for over a millennium. Therefore, during the relatively brief history of this country, it is necessary to determine the role that guns have played in it. That history can be stratified in three principle parts: its inception during the Colonial War, its expansion to encompass the majority of the North American continent that was fully realized prior to the closure of the 19th century, and its current period in which it has expanded as a global power. All of these developments were exceedingly belligerent in nature and powered by the use of firearms. It is due to America's lengthy relationship with guns as the chief means in which the country was founded and expanded upon that ordinary citizens cherish the right to brandish firearms today, therefore accounting for its full ingrained culture of firearms. The inception of a country from a political standpoint usually involves a marital conflict of some sort, in which a certain group of people claim the land as their own for their purpose of governance. Arguments of Proof In the paper "The Enduring Effects of Small Classes" the authors attempt to present more precise statistical data and thoroughly analyze methods used to create statistical models in an attempt to further clarify results from two popular studies on student–teacher ratio. These two analysis programs, the Tennessee's Project Student/Teacher Achievement Ratio (STAR) and Wisconsin's Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) Program were determined to have provided "significant cumulative benefits associated with smaller class size, with benefits being more impressive for African American students. However, others dispute these findings, most notably the Heritage Foundation. The broader research literature also raises questions about the generalizability of these studies. This conflicting research has led to a number of attempts to assess and reconcile the existing evidence."(Finn, Gerber ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Answers should be double–spaced in 12–point Times New Roman font with complete, grammatically–correct sentences. Explain and support your answers. Use APA–style citations, as appropriate. Research design: (Describe the basic research design. Write a testable hypothesis for each objective or purpose. 10%) I would agree with the authors that this was a cross–sectional study. This study did not contain a control group, randomization, manipulation or intervention. Therefore, this study was non–experimental. It's non–experimental because human characteristics cannot be experimentally manipulated (Polit & Beck, 2012, p. 223). The objectives for the study were found on pages 182–183 (Sabri et al., 2014). The first objective's testable hypothesis would be that white workers who are well–educated with no prior history of intimate partner abuse will be more likely to report workplace violence. The second objective's hypothesis would be that black workers will have more workplace violence experiences and use informal resource utilizations as opposed to formal resources. Variables: (Identify the independent and dependent variables for each objective. What confounding variable(s) was(were) controlled by statistical methods in Tables 2, 3, and 4? 10%) The independent variables for objective one were individual attributes, such ... • 33. High School Dropouts At Risk Students Introduction High school dropouts are usually defined as students who leave school before obtaining a diploma but in some cases, are also labeled as a drop out if they do not complete the high school curriculum within four years after entering ninth grade (Hampden–Thompson, Kienzl, Daniel, & Kinukawa, 2007). Students who are considered to be at risk are more vulnerable to dropping out of school than others. These at risk students usually exhibit behavioral, attitudinal, or academic problems (Lemon and Watson, 2011). However, other factors do contribute to dropping out which include family issues, health issues, mobility, and cultural issues. According to Laqana (2004),high school dropouts present serious implications for society such as reduced earnings, higher unemployment, increased crime rates, increased teen pregnancy, and increased alcohol and drug abuse. Currently, there are approximately 1.3 million annual high school dropouts who might lose $355 billion of income over their lifetimes (Bornsheuer, Polonyi, Andrews, Fore, & Onwuegbuzie, 2011). It is also noted that the prison population in some states is comprised of fifty to ninety percent of high school dropouts. Whannel & Allen (2011), identified a number of aspects of the school experience which are relevant to school attrition. Usually it is a process that begins for many in their early years of school and several factors contribute to the final decision to stop attending classes. These factors can be ... • 34. Cultural Significance Of Teen Films Teen films are the definitive genre that captures the adolescent zeitgeist during the 1980s, and its popularity still hold cultural relevance in the present day. The teen films produced during the 1980s effectively represent youth concerns and the coming–of–age narrative, in terms of adolescent identity, the different roles characters play, sexuality, gender, relationships, class issues and the generational divide. Exploring these issues is essential for recognizing the cultural significance of this specific group of films and how they are important in addressing concerns of the adolescent coming of age narrative. Sex and relationships are recurring themes throughout the genre and are essential elements teen narrative. Their portrayal ranges from comic interactions to serious exchanges and emotional liberation from restrictive forces. Timothy Shary explains the significance of these two thematic threads: "Romantic longing and sexual curiosity take on heightened intensity and profundity for youth in the adolescent years struggle to recognise and cope with the emotional and psychological changes"(2002). The character's experience with sex are usually comedic and linked to sexual discovery and loss of virginity, which are continually present topics in the narrative. It is is often a determinant that shapes teen identity, as well as providing a commentary on societal questions regarding a desire of intimacy. The sexual exploits between the teen male and female investigates teen behavior and the conceptualization of feelings and emotions in their discovery of identity. Another convention which surfaces again and again during the 1980s teen genre is the generational divide that exists in the familial structure, resulting in teens rebelling against adult authority. Within the genre adults are often portrayed in a negative light in both comical and serious ways: teachers are depicted as corrupt and arrogant as incompetent social figures. Parents are often unseen, distant, emotionally detached, cold, violent and abusive. The setting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Biology And Reading Comprehension Exams At the start and finish of a school year, a group of Italian third– and fifth–grade students with diverse sociocultural levels underwent two studies in which their concurrent and predictive validities of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) and Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices (CPM) were investigated. The focus of the studies was on their math and reading comprehension exams. The NNAT study is a "nonverbal measure of general ability... intended to assess cognitive ability independently of linguistic and cultural background." (1 Pearson) The CPM study is also a nonverbal test but, conversely, it measures the subjects' reasoning abilities. These nonverbal studies were helpful in presenting meaningful data for forecasting the academic performance of students with diverse sociocultural levels. The studied group consisted of 253 participants. The participants' characteristics were the following: (1) their average age was 9.4 years (with a standard deviation of 1.1 years of age), (2) 130 were female and 123 were male, and (3) 126 were in the third–grade and 127 were in the fifth–grade. Their Family Cultural Status (FCS) characteristics were the following: (A) Low: consisting of 86 participants (34% of the total pool of subjects)– (1) their average age was 9.5 years (with a standard deviation of 1.0 years of age), (2) 38 were female and 48 were male, and (3) 39 were in the third–grade and 47 were in the fifth–grade; (B) Moderate: consisting of 97 participants (38% of the ... • 36. Cultural And Historical Significance Of The Film 12 Years... The Cultural and Historical Significance of the Film 12 Years A Slave The cultural and historical significance of the film has changed and reshaped the views and cultures of African Americans with the roles that they have as a race in society as a result of the racial formation and performance portrayed in the film. The movie presents a verifiable and precise account of the collective experience of slaves in the United States of America in the late 18th century. The basic facts of the movie from the start to the finish concern events about the places, the time, and the practices that took place during the slave era in detail. The movie is inspired by a book written by David Wilson about the narrative events of Solomon Northup as a slave. Both the book and the movie share the same title. In the book, he speaks with a lot of authority on all subjects especially enslavement of black Americans and in the process, he names popular leaders as well as several other landmarks without fear of contradiction because we understand that public records have enough knowledge to defend his position. In the movie, the slave trader is accused of keeping slaves as captive in a slave pen in Washington DC. Not only is the name of the slave and the slaver mentioned, but also their accomplices in addition to the location where the slave pen is located, the structure of the slave pen, an all details that allow one to imagine the scenario that of the poor slaves had to undergo, all stacked together ... • 37. Investigation Of Turkish Students ' Mathematics... Investigation of Turkish Students' Mathematics Performance based on PISA 2012 Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between selected student– and school–level variables and mathematics performance of Turkish students using PISA 2012 dataset. Two research questions were investigated: (1) How much do schools vary in their mean mathematics achievement in Turkey? (2) Which student– and school–level variables are associated with students' mathematics performance in Turkey based on PISA 2012 results? Theoretical Framework PISA is a 3–year cycle of international assessment, which has been organized by Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development (OECD) since 2000. The primary aim of the PISA assessments is to determine the extent to which young people, who are 15–years old, have acquired the wider knowledge and skills that they will need in their real–life challenges with considering a literacy perspective in reading, mathematics, and science. According to PISA 2012 overall results, Turkey ranked 44th, 42nd, and 43rd positions across the 65 countries in mathematics, reading and science, respectively (OECD, 2014b). In this present study, some student– and school variables were chosen to determine if there is any effect on students' mathematics performance in Turkey. Gender is the first variable coming to mind when someone starts an educational research because there are not any certain statements; therefore, the influences of gender on the ... • 38. Teaching Methods and Student Achievent Introduction There are many views on how to educate children of the 21st century. Today's education world is focused on student achievement based on standardized test scores. Each year, teachers, districts, and states participate in state testing which shows progress toward a common goal per state, proficiency in academic core content. However, these standardized tests vary from state to state and examined at the national level. Therefore, the level of accuracy cannot be determined as to which states, school districts, and school sites are making great strides to close the achievement gap. Effective teachers are closing the gap by using a variety of strategies and methods in the classroom. Statement of the Problem Since the adoption of the No Child Left Behind laws of 2002 states, school districts, and teachers have been on a mission to find ways to make instruction and learning meaningful to students while meeting the goals set forth by the national and state legislatures while closing the achievement gap and making sure students are successful. Over the years, many new trends as to how to close the achievement gap have flourished. With these trends come numerous amounts of research proving why a particular new teaching methodology is going to work over another; states, school districts, and school sites are at the mercy of these trends to help close the gap to meet the national educational goal of all students must be successful in school. For the first part, there will be examples of international companies which set up a business in China. Significance of cultural differences in China Culture is a very widely identity. For a company, we usually consider two main parts: the national culture, and the corporate culture. So when talk about Chinese culture's influence to international firms, I will include both Chinese national culture and Chinese corporate culture. For Chinese national culture, we need to consider many parts, such as the philosophy. Because of the long history, China has formed very complete and complicated philosophy, which has a great different from western countries. Some traditional ideas are still kept in every Chinese people's mind. A simple example is the advertisement of McDonalds mentioned above. Kneel down in China could never be a joke or used in an advertisement. Because of the influence of Confucianism, Chinese people in some parts are more conventional than western people. Some things which have a strong sex and violence implication may be forbidden by the government. Herzberg Two-Factor Theory Essay (2)Journal on Herzberg's Two–Factor Theory The study, as reported in the journal, was using Herzberg's Hygiene Factors and Motivators to examine (a) what motivates employees in the retail industry and (b) their levels of jobs satisfaction. Tan & Waheed (2011) stated that the survey was done by way of convenient sampling to select sales personnel from women's clothing stores at Bandar Sunway shopping mall located at Selangor, Malaysia. One hundred and eighty selected sales personnel of heterogeneity were surveyed by a questionnaire written in English. The questionnaire included a series of statements and questions pertaining to determinants of job satisfaction. The survey candidates were requested to indicate their degree of agreement to each. According to the researchers, linear regression analysis was performed to test the relationship between Herzberg's Two–Factor Theory and job satisfaction and further analysis was done evaluating the relationship between money and job satisfaction. The results obtained are found to be contradicting with Herzberg's Two–Factor Theory. The study revealed that the strongest motivation factor with the highest significance level on job satisfaction is the working conditions, which is a hygiene factor. Data analyses were run to examine the relationship between gender, race, and geographic location and the participant's frequency of physical activity and level of self–esteem. It was predicted that males would have a higher frequency of physical activity and a higher level of self–esteem than women and that self–esteem would be high in White participants than Non–White participants. Although the data was non–normal, there high sample size allowed the Factorial ANOVA test to be run to investigate the relationship between the demographics and dependent variables. The bivariate relationship between physical activity and self–esteem was examined with Spearman's rho. An alpha level of p < .05 was used and Tukey's critical value was used for post hoc tests to identify the relationship between variables. Description of data Exploratory data analysis showed the data non–normal with high levels of skewness and kurtosis. Males participate in physical activity more frequently that females, while male and female self–esteem levels were fairly similar. Whites participated in physical activity more frequently and had significantly higher levels of self–esteem than Non–Whites. Most of the geographic location participates in the same amount of physical activity, with a difference between the North Central and South. Self–esteem across the geographic locations was similar. The paired t–test is a statistical analysis test used to determine if the mean difference between two sets of data is zero. During the study, each participant will be interviewed twice, creating a before and after situation. The paired t–test will then compare the mean values from two samples (Surkis & Read, 2015). Statistical significance and practical significance are important when interpreting the results. Statistical significance is determined by examining the p–value. The lower the p–value, the lower the probability of the null hypothesis being correct. This reflects the low probability that conclusions were determined by chance. Practical significance depends on the participants refers to the relationship between the data and real life situations. During the data analysis, results can be statistically significant but not practically significant. Both types are required to obtain valuable conclusions.
