The presentation defines noncommunicable diseases as chronic conditions that are not caused by infectious processes and have prolonged courses. It identifies the main types of NCDs as cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes, chronic neurologic disorders, arthritis, and unintentional injuries. The presentation categorizes NCD risk factors as modifiable like physical inactivity, tobacco and alcohol use, and unhealthy diets, non-modifiable like age, gender, race and family history, and metabolic like raised blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and overweight/obesity.
