Students everyday and every period in their school schedules use their electronic devices. Students
can not be without their electronic devices and they can not be a minute without using their devices.
In fact, students are starting to get a text neck from using their devices. Technology is a bad thing in
this generation. Students check their phone every 2 minutes to see if they gotten a text or
notification from social media.
Students should not be allowed to use electronic devices. Therefore schools should not provide
technology, such as laptops or tablets or any other kind of technology for all students. Students could
text each other more easily now but the school keeps them busy on their devices. For example,
Megan a 13 year old that attends New Smyra Beach Middle School. Megan uses her phone and a
school owned ipad in her history class (Todd, Anderson). This is exactly why schools shouldn't
provide technology because they will use their phones acting like they are using the technology. In
my classes I have seen girls using their computers to shop for makeup when they should really be
doing their assignments and when the teachers pass by they exit the screen they were on really
quick and act like they are doing their assignments. Only forty percent of students out of a hundred
are graduating school. The sixty percent of students do not graduate due to bad grades and what
causes them to get bad grades is them using their phones during class and not paying attention and
not turning in work.
All technology should be left in lockers and not allowed in the classrooms. In fact, teachers are
now forced to perform the "put that away, unplug that, please log off" dance every class period
and it's a waste of time. If schools provide technology then they would be a waste of time due to
the technology that they will provide. For instance, in my school we have laptops that we use in
class and it is not a very good idea because we lose so much time due to the laptops. Five minutes
before class is over we have to finish up our work and log off and put the computers away then the
teachers have to count them and we can not leave to our next class until they have counted all of the
